Patchouli Paris

Unfortunately I’m absolutely obsessed with this, the price is completely stupid (and no 50ml option, wtf) but it’s quite good and I probably will buy at some point as I can’t get it out of my head! Very rich, hefty - not quite as sweet as Coromandel (the other patchouli frag I’m most familiar with). Makes me think of a 60s bar with dark wood paneling, the smell of cigarettes and well-dressed gentlemen. A bit flirty and sleazy and bohemian, but also very chic and expensive? Makes me think of the lyric in Time of the Season, “what’s your name, who’s your daddy? is he rich like me” Coromandel has a sweet, chocolatey note that for some reason makes me think of cinnamon gum, it’s almost chewy. This is more earthy, a bit less sweet but still so deep and rich and surprisingly I prefer it even though I fell in love at first scent with Coromandel. Patchouli Paris feels vibrant, exotic, a whole experience. This stuff also has INCREDIBLE sillage and lasting power in my experience, I’m confused reading other reviews of people saying it is weak as my experience has been as far from that as possible. It still is traceable on the scent card in my pocket from two weeks ago when I first tried it. I went back last week to try it on, and my sweater sleeves still smell like I sprayed it this morning and it wafts through the air every time I open my closet. Maybe I just haven’t tried enough patchouli fragrances to feel underwhelmed as many other reviewers here, but to me it is unforgettable!

This is a scent designed by Guerlain to evoke nightime in Paris, which could never be a bad thing. It fires my imagination with sensory memory. It accurately defines the psychological, emotional response of my memories of Paris, dreamlike and romantic yet grimy. luxurious yet dangerous, historic yet modern, culturally refined, yet bleak. Never was my favourite city in the world, but Paris is Paris and there's nowhere quite like it, love it or hate it. Paris is a delight and a tragedy at once. This scent evokes that raw, rude, insolent beauty and grace. gorgeous potently rich patchouli offset with iris and subtle vanilla drydown, simple clean and definitely highly effective. weak as anything though...sadly performance is pretty drastically poor longevity minimal and projection is probably not even noticeable to others I'll have fun just smelling myself then, its a pleasure for my wrists only i would call this unisex, good for male or female alike A gorgeous Patchouli chic elegant scent but only 6/10....lower score only due to its performance issues...but its mostly patchouli so this might mean it will take about 9-12 months to get to its full depth and strength, patchouli takes forever to macerate and mature.

This is an absolutely gorgeous fragrance. -Clean White Patchouli note, no dark patchouli hippie tones to it. -All notes are easy to notice throughout wear. -Wears long on me. I sprayed my neck/shirt top, and tops of hands 7 hours ago and it’s still noticeable. -The barely noticeable aldehydes keep the fragrance “lifted” above skin level beautifully and are not harsh. -Easily all season wearability along with all occasions. Office safe. -Iris is beautifully blended through and softens the fragrance along with Ambergris and soft vanilla. It wears very similarly to Bvlgari Splendida Patchouli Tentation. Gorgeous! -In the floating dry down patchouli becomes a little chocolate scented. -Not a linear scent. It develops and changes through out wear. -Not harsh or offensive in any way. -A great beginner friendly clean patchouli fragrance for those fearful of bad patchouli, via scent memories of “Yore”. -A masterful creation by Delphine Jelk. One of her very best modern Guerlain fragrances! Highly recommend if price is not an issue. Only bad point is its exorbitant pricing. Enjoy!

I was so close to buying a bottle of this, when I took my 2nd fragrance vacation, last month. I just got into this hobby this past year, around April. I've already spent too much money on fragrances, so I've taken a little vacation twice, and tried a bunch of fragrances, but only bought one bottle each time. The first time, I bought a 50 ml bottle of Roja Sweetie Aoud, but I really wanted Guerlain Cherry Oud, but they didn't have it in stock. They had a 200 ml bottle of it in stock, last month when I went back, but I didn't want to spend that much money. I ended up deciding between Chanel Le Lion and Guerlain Patchouli Paris or Angelique Noire, or Feve Gourmand. I ended up buying a 75 ml bottle of Chanel Le Lion, from the Chanel Boutique, because the smell in the cold air was amazing, and I just fell in love with it. I really hope to buy a Guerlain fragrance in the near future. They have so many that I enjoy!

What a fantastic scent! I went into it without any expectation, because patchouli isn’t a note I usually like. But wow, here it’s done so well!! In fact, I just visited the Musée International de la Parfumerie în Grasse and there was patchouli to smell there. And the patchouli în Patchouli Paris is the closest to the natural patchouli I smelled there. Patchouli Paris is like an October evening walk through the streets of Paris, after a short rain. The opening isn’t too impressive, one would almost dismiss the perfume if you’d only smell the top notes. But after 10-15 minutes, once the aldehydes dissipate, the smoothest, most elegant patchouli emerges! A bit earthy, a bit chocolatey, but mostly a clean, elegant, natural patchouli! Effortlessly chic, this perfume! A must try, even if you usually dislike patchouli. Signature-scent worthy.

I’m not going to talk about how good it smells — taste is personal, and for me, I simply love it. This review is about performance. I bought it in December 2024 after testing a sample for three months, and honestly, it was a disappointment. The scent felt weak and disappeared within an hour. But I’ve learned something from other perfumes: sometimes they need time. So I let it sit. After about a year, I came back to it — and it was a completely different experience. The fragrance had developed depth, strength, and persistence. Now, it’s not something that fades quietly... it stays, and it makes itself known. If you judge it too early, you might miss what it’s capable of becoming.

A sparkling and vibrant iris patchouli. The opening reads a bit discordant, but not unpleasantly so: already the iris and patchouli are battling for dominance. As it settles, the two find cohesion and, together with the aldehydic elements, meld into the loveliest earthy airiness. There’s a greenness here, lent a salty warmth from the ambergris. The patchouli, freshly picked and rinsed clean, extraordinary, serves as a creamy, almost chocolatey base. The iris is a high note, sharp against the earthier elements. Something animalic whispering in the background, followed by a singing vanilla resolution. An incredibly alluring and inspired blend.

This is a gorgeous Patchouli scent, very "reminiscent" of Reminiscence’s Patchouli but they are not the same. Instead of the dense amber that gives a chocolate cake vibe, the amber in Patchouli Paris feels lighter and much more like an ambergris with a slightly salty note. This gives sharpness to the scent, but after 1-2 hours, the salty sharpness starts to disappear giving place to the iris which comes to smooth out the scent. The dry down is very smooth and elegant. The patchouli note is dominant and sweet but not as sweet as Reminiscence’s Patchouli.

First Impressions: Beautiful patchouli iris on a soft bed of powdery vanilla. The aldehydes give the perfume a little lift perhaps, but aren't noticeable like with most Chanels. It's a patchouli that's been cleaned up, rounded off, sanded down. Very chic, very elegant, very Guerlain. Big love for me. Performance, too soon to judge but it's definitely not super heavy like Tobacco Honey or Neroli Plein Sud. On the softer side but I may be completely off with that as I've smelled quite a few perfumes today.

I do not understand how anything can smell this good and why the rating is so low... It is absolutely divine. Yes it is a soft powdery vanilla patchouli but it is so elegant, wearable, and unisex. If you are a hardcore earthy patchouli lover you will probably not like this but who would ever expect Guerlain to release anything like that in the first place? To me this is exactly what a patchouli fragrance released by Guerlain should smell like.

cold tone patchouli, it's obviously earthy patchouli is traditionally quite warm-toned but i find this one to be cold. it kind of reminds me of gris dior bc it also smells like an [slightly aldehydic] modernized chypre imo and at the very core of the composition, u can find crumbs of iris. this is actually promising, originally i wasn't very optimistic but it's become an acquired taste. also, VERY unisex.

Got my nose on this; a patchouli that strikes a lovely balance between airy and earthy, leans powdery with a light chocolatey sweet. Reminds me very much of Patchouli Blanc by Reminiscence as it dries down, with a hint of sweaty skin that must be the ambergris. You can get away with this for most seasons except summer because it's a tad bit too hot.

I don't like patchouli but decided to sample this anyway because of rave review from someone who likes all the same ones I like, so wth. First couples moments, yeahhhnope, still don't like patchouli. And then, that fast, I think I need this. I really can't justify a FB, this is an exquisite creation. Hat tip to Guerlain and Delphine Jelk.

I got a sample from Surrender from Chance. The top notes were so sharp and off putting to me that I almost didn’t give it a chance! The dry down is rich and warm and deep, without being overpowering. Love the vanilla that comes through. Trying it in Fall 2024 and looking forward to wearing it in the months to come.

My favorite of the entire lineup! This is a great Patchouli fragrance that can be worn year round. Shines especially on a mild summer night. Extremely underrated and deserving of a heck of a lot more praise than it gets. Try it for yourself and then you’ll see just how hard Guerlain cooked on this one.

OK, I have been testing this for the past 45 days on and off. I already bought a full bottle which is still in the packaging and I wanted to make sure I love it. Well, I’m in love with it. It’s delicious. It’s got great performance . The Iris just add something a little special. It’s a keeper! ❤️

Ultra Sophisticated, intimate take on Patchouli. A beautiful iris kissing it's neck bring you close. I love the slight wax and slight chocolate as a brilliant composition to make a captivating fragrance. I purchased the 200ml for Christmas time today. Love it!

Beautiful easy "grab and go" patchouli perfume, the patchouli is smooth and chocolatey, sweetened a bit by the vanilla, verly elegant, not laud. I hardly understand the bad ratings and reviews. I love it and It was blind buy for me.

A patchouli overdose that is pretty "green and woody" in the first minutes, then it evolves into something much creamier. Creamy, classy and smooth. Performance is good but I'd expect more for that price and these notes.

This is a beauty! It’s all patchouli yet elegant streamlined and refined – just like glorious Paris herself. It’s like a hippie speeding along in a Porche. A clean and impeccably dressed up patchouli. Hard not to like.

Commercial round Vanilla with Patchouli, nice but way to overpriced. Smelled another more fascinating and unique artistic patchouli in Milan from the French Brand Micallef ma Nature!! was in heaven so gorgeous!

For me it is the case that Psychedelique is too strong and piercing and this one is just right. I find it dreamy and romantic especially for autumn. I also advise non pachouli lovers to try this!

Most SCRUMPTIOUS chocolatey patchouli for the patchouli haters (me). This literally smells like dark chocolate, vanilla and iris, in the most chic way possible. The most underrated Guerlain.

Starts off rough but then develops beautifully into a very soft and elegant scent. Not sure it’s worth the price though.

This does not smell like lush karma at all. My husband has that in a cream form and for me personally that's much more of a hippie type patchouli with lots of orange and evergreen. He wears it during the Christmas season casually. Nothing wrong with that but Patchouli Paris is more sophisticated in my opinion. Definitely unisex. And a must sniff for die hard patchouli lovers. If you're a die-hard patchouli lover you have to have different types of patchouli's in your fragrance collection. Some of them are going to be more earthy and the hippie type of patchouli that you would smell in like an apothecary type of setting. They are more everyday and worn only for personal enjoyment, since strong dominant Patchouli is a love it or hate it type of note. Patchouli Paris definitely is very dominant with patchouli but the subtle vanilla the subtle iris the subtle aldehyde's transform the patchouli into something that can be worn as an everyday fragrance or you could also wear this to a more formal occasion. A very woody patchouli is used here but it isn't headache inducing. As long as you go soft on the trigger finger this in inoffensive. The vanillin softens this quite considerably making it much more palatable. I enjoy this but I doubt I would spring for a full bottle because I tend to like rose mixed with patchouli instead of the patchouli being the most dominant note. But this is enjoyable and I will wear my sample. Die hard Patchouli fans should give this a try. It's the type of patchouli that walks the line between earthy traditional patchouli and a more clean refined sophisticated patchouli.

I love Guerlain. A sizable chunk of my collection is Guerlain- mostly Shalimar and it’s many iterations but for the most part it’s like me and my Favorite Band Radiohead: if a new album is coming out, I’m buying it and I’m guaranteed to love every song. Until you don’t. Here comes Patchouli Paris... A lot of people don’t like the opening but love the dry down. I’m the opposite... I think the opening is magical- a sparkling, green patchouli. All edges or have been rounded off, carved into a smooth cold piece of marble. No soapiness or suds from the aldehydes, just a effervescent clean feeling. I get some sweetness from the vanilla in the opening but really it’s all about the patchouli. Then as it warms on my skin, Patchouli Paris starts to smell familiar. As Patchouli Paris dried down it becomes more of an amber, a fresh amber and I’m reminder of two fragrances I recently sold: Givenchy’s Ambre Tigre and Hugo Boss The Collection: Velvet & Amber. Both are great but leans masculine to me and I prefer either very powdery ambers or sticky syrupy ambers. All three Patchouli Paris, Ambre Tigre and Velvet & Amber have a note or accord that give the amber a freshness, or an aromatic accord that feels masculine or “barbershop” to me. Here lies my disappointment: Patchouli Paris doesn’t feel like a Guerlain release. I am happy with my little decant and will wear it and perhaps come to appreciate it more but for now I won’t be adding it to my collection.

A patchouli lover's patchouli - all the facets you could want are present: at times mildew, at times chocolatey, at times spicy & green. This is refined and subtle while still being very earthy. There's an airiness and a creamy smoothness I admire in this perfume a lot. This perfume is strongest with medium projection for the first hour but shortly after that dries down to a skin scent. Patchouli Paris is a quality scent. It lasts long, I've gone to bed wearing my sample and woke up with it still there, faintly. It's just so soft in projection that it doesn't feel worth it. Patchouli Paris is just far too quiet of a perfume for almost 400 USD. This true of a patchouli scent warrants being worn for parties or other glitzy nighttime event, too dirty for work. However, this perfume would get obscured by any other scent at an event. I have Gourmand Coquin, & am considering buying SDV - the original exlusive perfumes of this range were strong and lasted forever, as stupid as the price is can at least justify somewhat that if I wore Gourmand Coquin it will last me all night and project strongly the whole time. No such assurance with Patchouli Paris. As much as I like it I will not purchase. The price is delusional.

Firstly, I do not think the perfume fits with the name or the bottle colour. Honestly, the name seems like a money grab for the olympic games (when the Guerlain boutiques had Paris written all over their windows). It opens with an intense raw and earthy patchouli and remains a dry concoction that one would imagine in a dark green colour. The beauty of it is all in the surprisingly elegant sillage, achieved with the pairing of a makeupy accord backed probably by iris and a hint of vanilla. I recently encountered a fragrance that is similar in style, but more interesting and that would be Nightclubbing by Celine, a galbanum centered fragrance. They are both dry, almost medicinal and herbal, yet elegant fragrances. However, I would buy Nightclubbing before Patchouli Paris. +1 for a modern attempt at patchouli.

Patchouli Paris is Guerlain’s newest release and an interesting new member to their overtly expensive luxury lineup - does it belong? I’m not so sure. To clarify, it’s a very nice patchouli scent - but for the price, and from a house such as Guerlain, I expected a whole lot more. The patchouli is as you might expect, notably earthy and bitter, yet maintaining a soft creamy nature which highlights those chocolatey facets associated with the material. Very gentle touches of ambergris, Iris and aldehydes give the scent some lift, making it appear cleaner and more palatable. It’s a very simple scent, and if you’re looking for a good patchouli and nothing else - this could be a contender, although you could likely find better for less money. I like it, but I’m not impressed with it.

This is not your Grateful Dead show type of patchouli, and I hoped that it was. Its very mild, well blended, and sexy. I don't think that ive ever smelled aldehydes before, and it smells nice. The iris is sweet, but that might be the marriage from the ambergis. It doesn't project well at all after the opening, but I sure do enjoy smelling my wrist. I only applied two sprays and it might perform better with 7 or 8. That first 30 minutes would be nuclear though! Thats too bad as a $400 bottle of patchouli should be nuclear! Id love to give this an 8 if it performed, but since it doesn't I am going to have to go with 7.5. I assume the low ratings are due to the price. I didn't give that much for a 10ml and I am glad that I got it. I forsee the Jovoy in my future.

It goes without saying that Guerlain has the set the bar really high with the L'Art & La Matière collection and it's predecessors. So of course when they announce something new, we all expect to have our socks knocked off. Sadly for me, that hasn't been the case with the last 2 launches, this and Peche Mirage. This is far better than Peche Mirage, I will give it that ! Sure, it's a nice, interesting blend of aldehydes + patchouli. BUT, is it good enough to be in the L'Art & La Matière colletion ??? And to me, the answer is no. It would be a fine release for a $150-180ish range designer release. But not a part of (any) private line. It's nice to see a patch fragrance added to the line-up, but this is not it. I expected something much better.

Certified patchouli hater here, although I feel it can be nice when paired with the right notes such as chocolate and rose. Sprayed with an open mind, and in the beginning I recoiled but during the drydown the wafts that lingers in your scent bubble is quite intoxicating. It doesn't smell like dirt and certainly not like the cheap patchouli found in common designer fragrances. It smells a bit herbal to me, which is how I imagine a real patchouli leaf to smell. A bit masculine leaning though...Now I understand it when people say patchouli can make a fragrance sexy. I think if it can make a patchouli hater like this fragrance, it is pretty well done, just my opinion..might get a travel size of this if I can find one..

Surprisingly, I like this perfume a lot. I say surprisingly because I did not like at all recent Guerlain releases, like Tobacco Honey. I like this type of patchouli with a little bit of sweetness. It is quite addictive, and I cannot stop spelling the perfume. If I didn't already have a favorite patchouli fragrance, I would have bought this immediately. But for now, this will go on my wish list. I must say that I like patchouli but it should be the right type or done in a particular way and this perfume is just that. Aldehydes are present, but they are so lovely in here. Anyway, quite a stunning release.

Definitely Guerlain. The opening is earthy, warm and balsamic, a bit of herbal bitterness, too. More of a male scent at this stage. The aldehydes are not really fizzy and the vanilla is very demure. Drying down Patchouli Paris becomes more woody, the iris is delicately complimenting the other notes and the vanilla shows more and more, a typical Guerlain vanilla, very beautiful. Everything apart from the vanilla and woody notes starts to fade soon. It's a nice experience, a well blended perfume. Personally, i do prefer the later stage on my own skin, but for just that the price tag is too high.

I usually don’t get along with patchouli but this is strangely addictive. Disagree re: lush comment below - karma has the really oily earthy hippy smell. This is refined and airy; there are some very heavy menthol/earth/soil tones that are initially off putting but they fade as it settles on the skin. I love the ambergris in base. It’s unaffordable though, and seems like most people think it’s nice but not for the L’Art de Matiere lineup. I do find a lot of similarity with Gris Dior; so it’s not a particularly unique composition.

I was never a fan of patchouli, but then my fiance had me smell this fragrance at the store, and to my surprise, I really liked it. It’s strange in the best way. It smells like the earth, with something sweet lingering in the background. The iris isn’t too chalky, it’s soft, powdery, and somehow, it smells like him. I buried my nose into my shirt and caught a hint of smokiness, the warmth of soil and skin. I’m not sure how long it lasts, but I hope it does. He just gifted it to me, and now it feels like a scent full of memory.

I have just got a sample of this and I really like it. It reminds me slightly of something I have smelled in the 1980s when I was a child. I do not smell much of the aldehydes, the patchouli is smooth and chocolatey, sweetened a bit by the vanilla. What stands out to me is the ambergris which gives the fragrance a light and pleasent animalic touch, nothing stinky or skanky, but something warm and alive. Overall, it is a very beautiful and interesting composition.

It’s not earthy patchouli but modern patchouli mixed with iris makeup. It’s opulent and old fashioned as Paris is, and supposed to smell like endless nightlife in bars there. There is something very free, carnal and careless about it. I do understand it’s a pass for most people. It will probably seduce careless people who want to remember the highlife in Paris. I had my second hand bottle for very cheap thinking it would ressembles LIDGE but i regret buying it.

Wearing a sample, I like this but don't love it. It's nicely blended as to be expected from Guerlain. I could see this fitting into someone's collection if they like refined, balanced patchouli fragrances. The iris on patchouli gives a very earthy spiciness that I could see being very sexy on a dressed up night out. Overall it's not the kind of fragrance I need to buy, but I am pleased to have a little sample.

at first i smell a lot of patchouli and ambergris. it's sweetly earthy. then i get a lot of iris and some vanilla/aldehydes. it gets way less sweet as time passes and is more light, dry and lifted by the iris/aldehydes. it's like an airy patchouli for awhile. finally i get more vanilla and it sweetens up a bit. it's very pretty.
