Samsara Rosée Parfumée Rafraichissante

This comes in a roller ball and has a light gel/oil consistency. The English translation is "Refreshing Dew" and while refreshing might be a little misleading ( it IS Samsara after all !) I can see what they mean. It has a light texture and marginally lighter scent ( relatively speaking ). It's rare I'd go for anything over an original, vintage but I always found the heavy tonka, vanilla, iris butter in Samsara very cloying. It wasn't Poison by any means ( a lot more sophisticated ! ) but it edged towards the sort of frag that gave the 80's a bad name - when it was at its height you could smell it on every 20-30 yo in every pub and club. When it got hot, it wasn't pleasant ! It was also worn by a relative ( very heavily !) So, in this case, familiarity very much bred contempt. Samsara and I had a rocky relationship. Til now. Ironically, the sandalwood which, for me, was the best part of the original, is maybe softer less screechy than today's Samsara ( well, bee bottle the last I tried ). but it isn't fighting everything else so actually shines in this. I can't be sure if it's exactly the same Mysore, as it's just past the first generation ( per Raider's it was the real deal up to around '97 ) but it certainly smells good to this sandalwood lover. It's got a good amount of the good stuff !! So, this is a powdery, version that dries down quite quickly to a soft but persistent scent; it lasts, but it won't project widely, you aren't trailing it after you. It's an altogether more intimate Samsara and all the better for it. EDIT: this is seriously growing on me. It really lasts, and develops and smells more beautiful the longer it does. Think Samsara and I are back for good ! If you find some and love Samsara ( or even if you don't 😉 ) get it ! *Per Raider's: it dates from 2000. Along with the standard parfum, alcohol and water, the ingredients are a combo of caster oil & glycerin so that's what gives it it's light, oily texture which is easily absorbed. Just don't get it on your clothes ! EDIT - 2026 postscript - Samsara got me !. I'm now it's biggest fan and I've sorted it out in all versions. I'm under Samsara's spell and it started with a little rollerball of gel.
