Samsara Shine

I love this ten times more than the samsara eau de parfum, and have both, used up 4 bottles of this stuff and hardly touched the parfum. This is the far prettier smarter more beautiful easy going fun loving sensual younger sister who for some reason died and was burried after much neglect from humanity. Too beautiful and pure a ray to shine on this earth for long rest her precious soul. I do not understand the neglect nor the way she seems to have died in darkness unrecognised for what she was. Bring it back Geurlain, its better than the original. PS: The ylang ylang was strong in this one....sigh

When I first tried one of those little red travel sprays of Samsara Shine, I sort of tossed it aside in disgust as insipid--like the firetruck red packaging, too darned bright and "shiny." But a little later, I began to find it comforting and warm. Although I agree with others that it can smell "plasticky" on the opening, I have come to find this very appealing indeed. I wouldn't chose it over Samsara parfum of course, but I do in practice reach for it rather than Samsara EDT. My favorite way to wear it is very lightly, with a quick spray or dab of Guerlain Mahora near it.

A glamorous delight! A hint of green/citruses at the beginning and very luxurious and oozing with amber, sandalwood, vanilla and tonka bean stay with you for eons,quite phenomenal really. I agree with Lady Macbeth that it is very strong at first, and you do feel surrounded by warmth! Very similar to the original and gorgeous Samsara, with extra vanilla. I'm sad to hear that it isn't being produced anymore! What a shame. Such a pity as it has all of the attributes of a timeless, classic scent.

This one is quite heavy too!! LOVE IT! It is more like a Vanilla Samsara! :-)

Samsare Shrine is not produced anymore and very difficult to find. Samsara is a wonderful creation, but it is also very special and heavy. It's not sold as expected, this for a mainstream fragrance that is full of Jean-Paul Guerlain's passion and love. They introduced a couple of variations on the original fragrance, which were lighter. But Samsara just needed more time to settle in, and is now a very popular classic. It's full of personality and warmth. Like "Shalimar Légère", Samsara Shine did not survived very long and it is not that spectacular. I classify this one with the other Guerlain mistakes of that period: Too Much Champs-Elysées, Cherry Blossom Delight, Cherry Blossom Fruity, Cherry Blossom Glittering, Colours of Love, Lovely Cherry Blossom Sparkles, Precious heart, Shiny Cherry Blossom, With Love, and Lights of Champs Elysées,. Cherry Blossom has been sold in Europe, but the other ones I have never seen. Sometimes they only release for the American and/or Asian market... . I admit that these creations are not really reflecting the Spirit of Guerlain. The position now is clear, but Guerlain and LVMH had to find the balance in their "relationship "after Guerlain was acquired in 1994. Un air de Samsara was on the other hand a very good release! I just advise to try Samsara, and buy it in the eau de toilette or deodorant and body-spray if you want a lighter version. There is nothing better then Samsara on it's own!

weird fragrance, not a fan of Samsara though I love Guerlain and thought I would like this based on notes. It has a weird plastic top note vibe and is all about the sandalwood in a big way and some fig leaf, not juicy fig but the bitter weird leaf that works in some combinations. Yes, ylang, tonka and amber are underlying but not in a sweet rich way. There is a faint citrus vibe. It IS a green fragrance due to the fig leaf. This is sandalwood, fig leaf and plastic in a big way. Not a big fan of the top though I like its uniqueness but the drydown and base are very nice.

A vanilla-centric scent, at least on me. Very sweet. Not Guerlain's most sophisticated offering, but I like it. Reminiscent of Dior Dolce Vita or Ungaro Desnuda, both of which I'm very fond. I mostly purchased my bottle because it's a cute, red refillable 4.5ml purse spray, I considered the juice inside a bonus. I'll enjoy using it up, but probably won't repurchase unless I see a great deal somewhere (wouldn't actively be searching for this one, sorry Guerlain!!

Is it possible that I love Shine more than the EDP? Where Samsara is a cozy evening bundled under the blankets with your child; sitting by the fire in your log cabin cottage, Shine is you pushing your child on an old wooden tree swing off a big ol' tree beside that same log cabin midday with strong beams of sunlight cracking through the foliage! This is the feeling it evokes in me. Both are spectacular. I believe I may need a backup of this scent!

Samsara Shine is an adorable sparkiling oriental in my opinion. The green notes vanish very quickly and leave a beautiful and cosy ylang-ylang and sandalwood trail. I love it as much as I love the original Samsara and I do not limit myself to wearing it only in summer.

I agree with lady macbeth in that it seems quite strong when first applied, but then dissipates to a lingering scent that stays with you for hours. I bought a miniature of this on ebay (I couldn't find the smaller, sample vial) because I really like the original samsara, which is definitely not for daily wear. I was hoping that samasara "shine" would be a little more toned down...it is. So much so, that it does not smell anything like the original samsara on my skin. There is only one thing that comes to mind when I wear this fragrance: DRYER SHEETS. That is EXACTLY what it smells like, and overwhelmingly so. I do NOT like this scent at all. I'm just very disappointed that I spent the $13 on the miniature and shipping so smell like something I could get out of adding an extra dryer sheet for a few cents. Dryer sheets...

Sad to say, Samsara Shine is a disappointment for me. If I didn't know better, I'd think it was just a failed Samsara knock-off attempt, rather than a flanker. When I read some reviewers describe it as a more vanillic version of Samsara, I got SO excited. And while it is unmistakably a version of Samsara, it is only similar enough to remind me how great the original is. There is no way I'd ever reach for this with a bottle of original Samsara nearby.

It's one of my mom's scents, it fits her, but I don't find anything floral green. For me it's too heavy, it gives me a headache. But on my mom it smells great.

I wear Samsara Shine on one arm sleeve right now and the original Samsara on the other. Samsara Shine outshines, or rather out drowns, Samsara quite a bit. Shine is like the floral version of the original and I would put it into the same category as other bold florals like e.g. Red Door, Bob Mackie etc. Samsara Shine is by no means a shy flower and I would not call it a soft scent. Maybe it's my aversion to jasmine which comes running towards me with the same headache inducing strength that ruins Calvin Klein Beauty for me. This is strong stuff indeed, and probably too much, if you cannot abide heavy doses of jasmine. Having said that, it is not a bad scent at all. I think on the right woman this can be a wonderful fragrance and someone who happens to like jasmine will probably enjoy this lively concoction. It's as if it's shouting, "Here I am and I'm here to stay!" Edit: A day later I am taking my shirt out of the laundry basket and Samsara Shine greats me with a happy abandon that makes me laugh. It is still going strong but has mellowed somewhat. The jasmine has retreated and given way to the more friendly yang-yang; if this stage would have been there yesterday, and skipping the jasmine altogether, I think I could have liked Shine for myself.

For a Samsara flanker not bad. It's a fruitier day time perfume version of the evening fragrance that is the original Samsara. I wore Samsara only at night because to me it smelled of elegant formal evenings. But this one is a fruity floral to wear casually every day. It opens with citrus nothing extraordinary as it opens. The fig leaf is not detectable although I do get a green scent briefly as the fragrance enters its heart notes. There's jasmine and ylang-ylang which are both very noticeable. The scent lingers for a long time as mostly an ylang-ylang scent. It's brilliantly floral. Then it turns into a vanilla and amber. This gives it the feel of shimmering gold or that shine of it's namesake. It's really very nice although not as complex as the first Samsara. I wear this to work in the day time. I run my own business and it doesn't smell CEO-ish but it does smell sweet without being cloying, not fussy, not too innocent, just the right amount of femininity and charm. I have received compliments on it but I wish they would compliment Samsara instead. I think all the women I have worked with prefer light fruity florals. Elegant too but not formal. It's selling for only 80 bucks on Fragrance X and I recommend it!

Samsara the original is very popular and beloved. I didn't know they made flankers. This is not the same Samsara we all know and love but it's not bad either. It's unfortunate it receives very little attention. I purchased the Eau de Toilette. This has an opening of citrus brilliant and shiny; i.e. "Samsara SHINE". This is a summer fragrance very cool and refreshing. If you like citrusy scents like Eau De Cologne 4711 or Florida Water the opening to this frag is a bit like that. The fresh and sparkling sweet citrus is joined by a red wine of currant. It's not too boozy however as the citrus opening is stronger. The rest of the fragrance smells of sweet fig, lots of fig and very few flowers, namely ylang-ylang. The fragrance develops rather quickly and becomes a vanilla scent in the end. There's also a little bit of warm amber. It's very well made and enjoyable. Citrus, ylangylang, vanilla, amber. The whole thing is light soft and inoffensive. You can wear this just about anywhere.

If I could think of a color, samsara shine would be ochre. Not yellow but not brown either. And definitely not green! This one has nothing to do with green. There’s a slight glimpse of fig leaf, but it’s really not predominant. It’s so curious, because if I had smelled this without knowing it’s a flanker if samsara, I’d have never guessed. Samsara shine shines by its own light. I could think of a rebellious cousin of samsara. It’s warm, almost musky. It definitely has an “old vibe”, but it’s very subtle. I cannot smell the sandalwood or the vanilla drydown so noticeable in samsara. This one dries down as an enveloping ochre Hug. I can definitely wear this one on spring, fall...maybe a cool night of summer, while I walk with someone I love, and I think how wonderful is to be alive.

It's "ok." I'm not blown away by it like I was the original Samsara.. At first it's like Samsara with a bit of brass on top. I don't get the greens. After an hour or two dry down it's generic "syrup," to mind Guess perfume (the gold bottle that had the fishnet pattern on it) with some Anais Anais. Then a good dash of powder to finish off the smell close to the skin. I think I have to be in the mood for this one; trouble is, I don't know what mood that would be.

I had this but swapped it. The opening is too strong and doesn't smell very well blended. The dry down is gorgeous - very similar to Samsara EDP but that opening just couldn't disappear fast enough for me. I think if I had to choose between the two I'd choose the original EDP. This one is available online for a very good price if you can't afford the original. This is a good second choice - I prefer it to Samsara EDT.

This wasn't a green floral it was a woody oriental with a fig note and less powder than the original Samsara. They're actually really similar. Samsara Shine is like a cross between Samsara and a modern woody oriental like Lanvin Oxygene, Ungaro Desnuda or Victoria's Secret Halo.

I love it! It seems a bit strong when you first put it on but it has some specific warmth that surrounds you when you wear it. Perfect for cold days, just be prepared for people that will come to you to keep them warm ;)
