Shalimar Souffle d'Oranger

If anyone had told me that after a life of hating Shalimar I will wear a Shalimar I would have laughed as Disney villain at him or her. I never put up with Shalimar, one because it expresses anything other than a strong woman in a suit spinning documents, and two because from youth time, I have known from someone in the G family the true story of the Shalimar creation, which is far from the romantic or poetic one made by the Marketing department, actually can be vulgar from some point of view. Anyway, I didn't touch Shalimar all my life, but one day, going downstairs to go to a lunch meeting, I am struck by a pleasant smell of orange blossoms, petitegrain and a slight bitter odor, flying to me from the reception's office. I didn't have time to investigate then, but as soon as I returned from the meeting I headed to the reception desk. Poor people, they froze when they saw me, there were two ladies and a gentleman, I excluded the gentleman because I didn't think that a perfume could catch such a feminine touch on a male skin, and I concentrate on the two women and that smell was there, powerful and powdery. The smell practically bathed all three, so it was hard for me to figure out which of the two ladies had that perfume. - Can we help you, Madame la Directrice? - What perfume are you two wearing, ladies? - I don't - Shalimar Well I was sure that wasn't Shalimar, so I asked the gentelman -And you? -Eros, Madame. - No, can't be this one, is smell very orange flowerly and Petitgrain and some grefruit maybe or pomelo bitter. Maybe was someone who just pass. -I think it's mine Madame. -The Shalimar, no darling, isn't it! I said giggling But that young girl was very pragmatic. -It is Madame, I don't like the original one too, but this is Souffle d'Oranger. -Shalimar has flankers that smells like this? But I don't smell any of the original oriental boudoir scent. - Neither I, that's why I love it. Well, I bought online 3 bottles until I leave the office that day. I love it, it has nothing of the original Shalimar other than the typical G vanilla, the citrus zone is bitter not spicy like in the original, the middle note can't compare, it's aromatic, green harsh very opulent in vibration but still cool and the end it's a lot of vanilla but it's more a bourbon one sweet but still bitter. I don't understand why they didn't give it a proper name, it would have deserved one and it would have deserved to be a proper line, it's not a Shalimar, it's a perfume with which Guerlain could have brought a female audience in business suits. Unfortunately, like in the case of Prima Ballerina Guerlain, they put in on the market in special edition and then let it disappear. To understand that the career strong women, who do not want to smell feminine in the sensual-oriental or cake style are limited edition for Guerlain? Well I don't want to think so, or maybe only at these limited editions T. W has his hands free to create whatever he want, and I would be hypocrite to not admit that until he was exclusively hired by Guerlain he had successful feminist perfumes by definition on the market, let's just remember Truth, Fuel for life and Les Saisons.

After reading the reviews below, I was scared to blind buy, despite having and loving all of the other Souffles, so I purchased a spray decant to try it out. It's a little greener and tarter than the original Souffle de Parfum, with lots more fresh orange blossom, but not bitter. This would be the perfect Souffle to wear on the hottest days, because it's the freshest and the least likely to overwhelm. It still has lots of layers and character and suits me really well. If the other Souffles suit you and if you're a fan of neroli (it can go either way for me), this one might just be a beautiful addition to your collection. I'm adding to to my "want" list and will happily overspray from the beautiful collector's bottle. As it's drying down the beautiful benzoin is coming out...Oh it so good!

I just received this today, so this review is based on the initial wearing. The first thing I smell is green grass. There’s an herbal feel to it. It’s fresh and light. Within 10 minutes the floral notes come out, and an hour into it, it has dried down to a sweet citrus floral scent. In this last phase, it does have good staying power, but the sillage is not great. I could still smell the vanilla citrus after a shower, so that should give an idea of the staying power. It’s light enough to be office appropriate. The bottle is beautiful, although it is smaller than I expected.

This is the new fragrance, Shalimar with orange blossoms. The other flanker with oranges is the original Shalimar oriental dressed in oranges for a limited series (Series Limitee) a limited edition flanker.

Citrus, vanilla, floral. Love this perfume

Orange, orange, orange. This perfume feels like a composition of orange and orange blossom at 60% with 40% Shalimar. It throws open with orange. I did sense a bit of room fragrance style orange. This flanker of a flanker was made like a classic Guerlain, it takes 4-5 hours to develop but, will last all day on you into night with personality. You only need one spray. The middle notes are orange and Shalimar. As you get to the dry down, that's where you smell the sandalwood, benzoin and vanilla base of Shalimar but, there's still orange. I tossed up between Shalimar Souffle de Parfum (lemon note) and this one. People who complain about fragrances disappearing and not being able to smell a perfume will not have that problem with this perfume. I enjoyed wearing it. I enjoyed smelling it all day and experiencing the various notes.

I'd be lying if I didn't say that I didn't find this to be overwhelmingly similar to the original SDP. Just less. Don't get me wrong, I love it. It lasts, too. So far it's been on my skin for over 11 hours. That's not exactly the issue. The dry down is gorgeous, but it's more or less transparent. I don't mean in a Victoria's Secret way, I mean in a 'oh wow there seems to be something missing' type of way. It's very full for the first 8 or so hours, but then it sort of fades out without being completely rounded off. Neroli usually gives me headaches, but this doesn't. So if you suffer that issue, you may be safe. I'd suggest the original SdP, but others seem to like this one too. It has it's appeal. Maybe I just miss my SdP.

This is a lovely limited edition, and is in keeping with the more recent Souffle flankers and other incense-lite versions of Shalimar. I was hoping though for something more. While the citrus top notes are pleasantly sharp, Souffle d'Oranger dries down very quickly to the familiar vanilla/sandalwood we've come to expect from the fluffier Souffle line. Then it is gone. Souffle d'Oranger isn't powdery, nor does it have resins, but I actually think it smells closer to the discontinued Eau de Shalimar which my all time favourite. EdS however has greater longevity and silage. So, in conclusion, this isn't a B grade release, but it is disappointing. If you have the cash to spare though, the bottle alone is worth collecting.

The least sweet of the new Souffle variations. A brief encounter with some fizzy green qualities at first. For people new to the Souffle range, they really don't have very much to do with Shalimar, perhaps a very distant Southern cousin twice removed. If you are considering any of the souffles and torn between the lemon and the orange versions, the lemon is much more sweet and airier. Nothing offensive nor overly exciting, other than the bottle designs which are all very pleasing. In most markets, it can be obtained quite reasonably if you want to risk a blind buy of a summery scent. Just remember, it's NOT Shalimar which has been a plus for many of it's accidental fans.

Guerlain Shalimar Souffle d’Oranger (2019, limited release) - orange oriental - #thierrywasser created this perfume that represents fluffy clouds of vanilla-orange. Starts with a creamy Orange, Bergamot and Neroli. Nothing sharp, but reminds of milk chocolate & orange bars. Well-constructed white musks create radiance. As it dries down, the classic Shalimar amber accord comes out, but nothing animalic. A delicious release.

Hmm it’s nice but not worth the high prices I see. If you already have ‘Souffle De Parfum’ you don’t need this. This one is that fragrance, with a bit of Neroli added. And weaker. But I like it. Better than Soufflé De Lumiere to me

It's fine, but so unbalanced and heavy on the saccharine citrusy powder that it has lost the DNA of the original Shalimar and leans more into sunscreen/shampoo territory. A Shalimar flanker in name only.

A citrus bomb with Souffle tenderness ! First of all I wanted it just for the bottle,and the notes looked promising too. So now the scent: The opening part is a big citrus bomb( not that sweet type,but that strong,bitter and sharp opening) with a lot of aldehydes and some green notes.This opening reminds me No.5 L ́eau and it has that typical ̋cologne ̋ type of smell.After a minute this aldehydes and bitter citruses fades away and the scent start to be more white-floral more creamy-floral ,still with prominent now classy citrus notes and with a strong neroli-jasmine combo.The whole composition has a soapyness too,but in a very pleasant and refreshing way. My favorite part is the middle,because it ́s gorgeous floral aura and it ́s creamyness and tender soft spicyness(just very soft) mixed with the Souffle DNA,which is that lovely smoky-vanilla with a pinch of muskyness. It ́s not that similar (Souffle de Parfum) just maybe in the dry down,but more soft,light,airy. The dry down is a more softer version of Souffle de Parfum,it ́s a little bit woody,a pinch of classy sweetness and really lovely florals. Overall it ́s a lovely flanker for spring/summer,for collectors & for those who want a totally new Souffle version. The longevity it ́s not bad,but after a while it ́s a skin scent.It last the whole day BUT very very close to the skin,and it really depends on how much you apply. The most gorgeous is still the bottle,which is reeeeally beautiful,with the leaves,oranges and flowers on it. I have to say it ́s a really classy and elegant scent,with some twist in it......& what to say it ́s a Guerlain.

I was hoping a more prominent orange note would be present to help me get over the powdery, soapiness of Souffle. To me, there is just not enough citrus in this at all. I pick it up, but basically it is the same gag-worthy fragrance as the Souffle edp. See my review there. The only plus is this beautiful bottle.

Orange Blossom is by far my favourite floral note. It fulfils something deep within me and is my regular go-to for the warmer months. Shalimar in all its various concentrations is a classic fragrance, and whilst the original doesn't work with my skin chemistry, I often enjoy wearing Shalimar in the form of one of her flankers. Admittedly, the 'Souffle' line has been quite lack-lustre in my humble opinion. I have found them all to be very musk focused and quite unlike the original oriental Shalimar. I know I am not alone in this opinion, and like so many others, I too am bitterly disappointed that Guerlain decided to discontinue the Shalimar Parfum Initial line, which was an exemplary example of a Shalimar flanker done well. I let the excitement from learning that there was to be an orange blossom version of Shalimar Souffle get to me. When the first images of the bottle were released, I was tempted to blind buy a bottle, but the voice of reason persuaded me otherwise. I'll start by saying that I enjoy Shalimar Souffle d'Oranger more than others from this 'Souffle' line. It's much more wearable on my skin and is less musky. I am disappointed, however, that Shalimar Souffle d'Oranger is more citrus focused than the white floral I expected. I smell more bergamot and neroli in this fragrance as opposed to luscious orange blossom and vanilla. If I collected fragrances for their bottles alone, Shalimar Souffle d'Oranger would have been bought in a millisecond. Serious bottle appreciation for this flanker, it would make a stunning addition to anyone's collection. I don't have much room for displaying my perfume bottles, so with scent being the leading factor behind a purchase, I won't be adding Shalimar Souffle d'Oranger to my collection anytime soon.

I confess, I have not been a huge fan of the Souffle range, so far. I have found them to be too sweet and cloying on my skin. HOWEVER, that has all been turned around with this latest addition. D'Oranger is fresh but still has depth and a headiness, thanks to the sambac jasmine in the heart. The petitgrain and neroli notes are really discernable for me, which is a plus because I LOVE them both. It starts out as a green orange bomb when I first spray it, but it settles into a deep orangey, spicy, sandalwoody vanilla that feels smooth and luxurious. When I first sprayed it in the store I immediately liked it, and as I walked around I fell in love more and more. Eventually, I went back and spritzed it a bit more before heading out for the evening. I could still smell it the next morning at the gym. I repeated that process the next day and by day 3 I knew I had to have it. Today is day 4 and I am still loving it. From a die-hard Shalimar 'original' fan, this has to be the best flanker I have tried and I highly recommend. Oh, and it layers perfectly with Shalimar EDP! ;) However...I do feel that this is so different that it probably doesn't really belong as a "flanker" in the Shalimar line. I can detect a slight hint of the Souffle DNA but on the whole, if you like Shalimar or any of the flankers it is no guarantee you will like this one.

This has become my favorite fragrance in the entire world. Not a fan of the OG Shalimar. Took a big chance on the Souffle flankers fell in love first with Shalimar Souffle de parfum and then Souffle Lumiere. This came out and I struggled at first, because we all know how disappointing it is to want a perfume so bad, to then be stuck with something we hate. I am so glad I took the plunge and ordered this from Selfridges, UK. I am so pleased with this perfume. I guess I like Orange Blossom. I am not super knowledgeable with all the frangrance notes, but this is obviously (hence the name)an orange based fragrance. I get a slight green note (Neroli?) and citrus mix at first. After the initial blast of the green and citrus (almost sharp....but in a good way). You are left with a citrus scent drying down to a vanilla with the citrus in the background. This being said, you will not smell like a creamsicle or orange candy. It is grown up, refreshing and just beautiful. Makes me feel put together and confident. I will save Souffle de parfum for nights out, Lumiere for summer and/or bedtime but this baby is for day's, be it a lunch with friends or shopping with mom. Anytime I want to feel beautiful! Do not hesitate to try this beauty, if you are fan of the Shalimar Souffle flankers.

Shalimar Souffle D'Oranger is a Shalimar Souffle with a heavy dose of neroli and orange that is divinely and exceptionally infused into the perfume. I like all the Shalimar Souffles, of course they are perfumes that are not similar to the mother Shalimar, they are less resinous, without leather, less iris and without opoponaco. Well, it's a modern interpretation of the original that bears very little resemblance to this one. But in their lighter modernity with orange blossom absolutes and creamy lemon tart vanillas they're downright beautiful to enjoy year-round, because Guerlain here is still classy. Oranger adds juicy neroli and orange that warms the heart, cheers your soul for an unforgettable spring and summer. If you like neroli fragrances, it's a unique bet and it's nothing sharp, it's soft like a plush toy, it will fill you with citrus caresses. This fragrance has excellent sillage and durability.

I absolutely adore this flanker, it’s a toned down Shalimar with its vanilla signature but an additional overdose of powdery neroli, orange blossom and mandarin orange, it’s zesty, refreshing and has a creamy dry down, far more approachable for whoever can’t get along with the original Shalimar like I can’t. In spite of being a spring/summer scent, its performance it’s great, while the bottle it’s the prettiest one from all the Shalimar collection. It’s such a disappointment that it has been discontinued because was the perfect spring scent. Since I’ve only have a few drops left, I’m in search for another bottle, preferably full. I bought a bottle of Souffle d'Oranger several years ago and it has been sitting patiently at the bottom of the cosmetics case for most of that time. When I first acquired this fragrance, it was green and very much like 100Bon's Neroli and Petit Grain Printaneer. Very green indeed, even a little bitter. But after these years of sitting patiently, this beauty has rendered down to a sweet, soft, rich and ever so spicy orange blossom! I should not be surprised. I have many bottles of vintage Shalimar which have rendered down over the decades into a dark syrup worthy of the Angels themselves! Souffle d'Oranger may well be bottled ambrosia.

I have never liked Shalimar. BUT, the bottle that I smelled is old. It was my grandmothers and could be as old as 25 years. The scent may have been off. It was so awful to my nose that I couldn't even imagine that a fresh bottle could even possibly be bright enough for my taste. Then along comes THIS. I LOVE all of the notes and the reviews say that you can really smell the neroli. This does seem like something I would love much. I am afraid of purchasing for fear that the bitter shalimar original will be present in this flanker. Does this actually smell alike? Or does this smell citrusy and fresh?

Not similarity with original Shalimar at all. I think they should respect the memory of Mr. Guerlain and stop using and abusing the name of his best perfume to sell all kind of stuff, this particular scent is something I would have never thought could be related to Shalimar, no iris, no benzoin, no resins, no orris, I bought it thinking that bottle is amazing it would be beautiful a classical shalimar with an orange kick added to the spice..nope..this is just another impostor, not related at all...

I’m hesitant to leave this review but I decided to in the end, if only to hopefully serve as a good reminder to test before purchasing. I’ll make it brief and concise. Opens very bitter and sour, crushed green plants. That stage doesn’t last long, before the next part until the dry down, which is nearly identical to Souffle Intense. So for me this is not worth purchasing, and I’m sorry for it because the Souffle line are my favourite Shalimar flankers.

Omg wth is this?! Shalimar it ain't! Sorry Guerlain fans, but this is horrible. For some reason I can't tolerate neroli, petit grain or orange blossom in a fragrance, and this one has all three of them in copious amounts. Urgh! It doesn't resemble Shalimar at all, so I really don't understand why it was released as its flanker (in fact, a flanker of a flanker i.e. Shalimar Souffle, although it doesn't resemble that one either).

OhOk, have no idea as I have been looking for it too. I don't understand why this isn't more available in the US since it isn't a limited fragrance, like Shalimar Serie Limitee, which seems to be available for sale all over the place and is just regular Shalimar in a pretty bottle. This is very strange. I'll have to contact Guerlain about this.

Anyone in the US with a bottle want to swap or sell a decant. My husband has informed me after 18 years of marriage that he despises roses, which is my favorite scent, so most of my collection must go.
