Songe d'un Bois d'Ete

I'm writing this review without any knowledge about essential oils used for this fragrance production, because for few days I have no access to the Internet so this is completely my understanding of all components and real feeling (without any influences). In the first few minutes when applied it is extremely spicy with overdosed cumin and other typical curry spices as well. All of them are very pleasant and different than I know from other composition. It remind me a little bastard from Diptyque (L'eautre) and slightly Eau d'Hermes. Than cumin is getting weaker and first players are fruits, candied and sweet but not as in mainstream fragrances, these fruits are much more sophisticated and natural, similarly to the Pulp by Byredo. I'm completely in love with this step of its development. Honestly I never ever had perfume with such unusual connection of spicy and fruity elements - for me this is the winer of the herbal fruity category if something like that exists (a new fragrance, not an interpretation we already know). At this position it lasts for many hours - on my skin at least 8. Than fruits are drying, they become resinous without any sweetness, just mystery. At this stage of development the oud emerges and lasts for another 6 hours. The oud is very animalic, dirty and mysterious at the same time. It seems to be balanced by ambergris - fortunately creator don't applied any tonka or vanilla , so the creation remains woody-dry. At this point it reminds me rich and expensive Arabic perfumes that I also like a lot. So Songe D'Un Bois D'Ete is the real journey to the orient, the walk on the narrow streets of the Istanbul Grand Bazaar or seating with friends in the small restaurant in India where vegetarian curry is served and we drink mango pulp with buttermilk slightly enriched with nutmeg. No hurry no freshness no business class, just warm and friendly with touch of love. This is what I got from my lovely boyfriend when he bought Songe D'Un Bois D'Ete as a Christmas and and New Year gift for me :)

It's like wearing two different women who start out in jealous competition, grow up and become more comfortable with themselves and the world, and finally come to love and appreciate each other for their differences. The opening has a densely packed center that reminds me of toasted Indian cumin and mustard seed. I don't smell the cardamom as seeds so much as something like cilantro (the plant the seeds are from) would be dried and then used as a smudge. Eventually-at least half an hour later-this very dense nugget of scent expands like light through a prism, to merge with the other personality. Like Mizz Cindy, I too smell a fluffy sweet dry accord reminiscent of Tauer's L'air du desert du Marocain right at the opening, like a Himalayan kitten that's been adopted by a wild ocelot and is pouncing around and on top of her older ocelot sister. At first it seems like a disaster waiting to happen, but eventually big sis starts to play with little sis, and finally they curl up together for a nap. I've found it to open and develop much the same regardless of temp and humidity. Sillage is moderate, and on me the staying power is very good--the kittens are still curled up and purring a solid 8 or 9 hours later. However, the Tauer actually has bigger Sillage and staying power on me. If you like wood, toasted spice, orientals, or just want to experience a really interesting development you want to get a sample. I probably will get the Tauer and not this because I can imagine wearing it more often and it's not a car payment.. Both layer beautifully with my beloved Bulgari Omnia and with Diptyque Tam Dao.

This won me over from my first wearing of a sample I ordered online. Powerful, somewhat herbacious, sexual oud. And by that I mean once it warms into skin it starts to have that realistic B.O. scent that many of us oud lovers find intoxicating. (I put the 1st vote for Sexmagic similarity because this is the only other scent I've ever smelled such a note in this realistically, which I ADORE.) So I bit the $$$ bullet and snagged a bottle when I finally found one. And... was disappointed! At just one spray all I could smell was OREGANO, SO much oregano I was starting to crave pasta. My heart sank. I put it on the back shelf and left it there, hoping it was just my nose being funky that day, or the weather, or anything besides the scent itself. Brave enough a month later, I took the sprayer off and just barely touched it to my skin, spread it around and went about the day. THERE it is, the deliciously dirty oud w/ just a strong aromatic herbal note sure, but not an oregano-fest. I guess the trick is TINY amounts for me. I adore it. The fact that I had 1st tested from a 1ml dab sample made a huge difference though: FAIR WARNING that it's very different from a full (big) spray that these bottles deliver vs the dabs many will opt for to test! Lasts easily all day and one spray is far more than enough. Eventually traded my bottle as I couldn't get over the oregano vibe, but I wonder to this day if that was just something odd about my detection of the bay leaf note listed in it since no one else seems to have had this experience!

Breathtakingly beautiful, strongly medicinal-antiseptic dark woods with no rose to sweeten things up and the supporting spices and resins held well in check. The wood itself is not barnyardy or 'stinky oud' but a calmer, more reflective, more friendly species, though still very moody and spicy ; it's a very handsome variant indeed, which is just as well, because the other ingredients really are playing third or fourth fiddle, this one is all about the timber . (And maybe myrrh, of course - the more I wear this the more I can sense how much of the magic, especially in the open, comes from that.) It leans more masculine than most Guerlains, but is still far smoother and more urbane than many other 'ultra ouds' sold as unisex. Really exceptionally classy, but also pretty expensive and hard to find, and sillage and longevity weren't what I would want in return for making the trek to source a FB of this. One to get a rich relative or a sugar daddy to buy for you ... but I wouldn't save up my own hard-earned bucks to splurge on it. Still, absolutely wonderful - so I guess I'll have to seek out some generous perfume patron who'll finance this so I can rave about it every day. Very very special. ETA: A dream fulfilled! Finally scooped up a partial from some deluded person who's not as in love with it as I am. Realised, when sprayed on with some generosity, it can hang on in for as long as 8-9h ... and that its opening blast of gorgeous myrrh is nothing short of magic. A woody myrrhacle. Swoon, and dream again...

This happened just a few hours ago. On two occasions the Guerlain Girls insisted to try this and its a attractive scent. I did not buy it, no matter they sprayed my arm gererously with this Songe. I forgot about it and went back to work. A lady who is real particular approached me with other people around and said "You smell really good! I mean really really good". I said thank you and then again someone else gave me a compliment. Even though this was not my person style or signature scent it was probably the largest compliment. The particular people who said this are no nonescense people and it has to take a lot of WOW to get a slight pleanantry. This Guerlain scent is not a typical perfume of choice but surely a beguiling scent. EDIT March 15 2014: The cumin in the opening is very very short lived and vanishes in a couple minutes. The parfume is amazing. dichotomous to the opening the next stage heart and base is so smooth and beautiful. Smells rich and exotictly elegant. Some fragrance on first spritz capitivates but not worthy after first 2 minutes. While Songe is WONDERFUL through and through. Always what is on paper is not what will translate to what scent reveals to the skin. Its a very special composition. 8.9/10 and sometimes 10/10 never less.

interesting fragrance, got a decent sized sample of this expensive monster, right away my first impression is of a similar vibe to carthusia's numero uno, but then it devolps differently but that herbal smell right away to me , certainly a higher level of scent development, i like it and is interesting and exotic.. will need to save some coins for this one, i think very distinctive and certainly will be noticed for its overall presentation..not sure this would be a wise choice for me to purchase a full bottle just don't think i would wear it often enough, but a good sized sample, if money were no object than would not waste a second to order..it is very special.. ..i notice you don't have to go to heavy on the trigger either so maybe in that sense it will last a long time,so maybe a better value than i think, either way can't help but like this one alot. so interesing ,in a pleasing way..get a whiff of this one if you can...MAN. it is growing on me... delicious.. does anyone get slight licorice on the first part? like an extact type of scent. interesting.. the drydown on this fragrance just hangs around ...love it. I would wear this proudly..

A fellow fragrance enthusiast sent me a generous sample of Songe d'un Bois d'Été a couple months back. At first, I was reluctant to try, sensing that, for me at least, it needed a special occasion rather than just a normal work day. One quiet evening a few weeks ago, though, I was compelled to unscrew the sample's lid, dabbing Songe onto my wrists. And wow... WOW. Songe isn't a scent I'd normally gravitate toward. It's incredibly woody and leathery, with saffron and myrrh casting their spells over the other notes. But ever since those first dabs, I've again been compelled to wear it every evening since. To my nose, it exists wholly outside of the "hate-dislike-like-love" axis. Songe is just... transfixing. Serious, dry, austere, but at the same time, rich. I'll probably stick to wearing Songe at home while curled up with a book, again and again drawn to that sample until I've milked it dry. It's too stark for me to wear regularly out and about. But I definitely want to meet the person who's made this their signature scent. I'd surely fall in love with them on the spot.

Like many of my favorite perfumes, when I first got a sample of this I didn’t like it. I thought it was too bitter, too strong. When my husband asked what I was wearing, I was sure it was so he could request that I never wear it again! To my surprise he said it smelled good. I put it away, but would bring it out occasionally, each time appreciating an aspect of the scent I hadn’t noticed before. And each time the question from my husband and the same compliment. Finally a couple of weeks ago, I wore it in summer heat and after a couple of hours caught a waft, and it was my turn to say “wow, this smells good!” This has a bit in common with Feminite du Bois and Mitsouko, but certainly dryer and less sweet than either. I think it is classically French with a modern twist. I enjoy the dryness, the bitterness and appreciate how it makes what there is of a slightly sweet or even fruity element all the more beautiful. In music I’d relate it to an unresolved dissonance. It carries a beautiful tension, like a craving, and I was finally so hungry for it I bought a bottle.

Slightly syrupy and delicately sweet on application, a charming thin myrrh resin laced with jasmine and cardamom. As the sweetness dissipates, smoky sultriness hovers and performs a beckoning, alluring dance. Oud and saffron intertwine with beautiful seduction. Dry, leathery notes and vaporous cedar offer an aloofness that averts this fragrance from becoming an outright flirtation, maintaining a reserved sophistication that makes you chase after the take-it-or-leave-it mystique. Bay laurel adds a green leathery accent to the cedar and patchouli woods, making for even more enigmatic provocation. Complex and deep, yet clean and strong in stature. I dare to agree with some of the reviewers below that this is a little reminiscent of Tauer's LADDM, but with an emphasis on oud rather than amber and with the same birch tar/leather redolence underscoring beautiful, spiced woods. Over time, I might interchange these fragrances if I ever finish my Tauer. They are not the same but offer similar intense beauty and mystique and bred of the same class.

Sex in a bottle... 10/10 Just opening the sample package I could already tell I was going to love it from the gently wafting aroma, and then I sprayed it - OH MY GOD is this stuff pungent and wow does it have that addictive quality of gasoline but without the nastiness. Stunning. I honestly feel like I'm inhaling something illegal when sniffing this. And no this does not smell like Leather Oud. Leather Oud has very overpowering cloves on top. Honestly I don't see the similarity. LO is child's play compared to this. I don't know who would want to smell like they just smoked a pack of cloves in a dirty old leather jacket when you could smell like carnality itself! :) This is my new signature scent. Best fragrance I've put my nose on so far. I don't really detect any oud in this, and it's not listed on Guerlain's site. I get leather notes and a very slight urinous smell sometimes from it that could definitely put some people off, but it's also what makes it intoxicating somehow. Maybe it's civet or castoreum that's not listed in the notes.

I was completely intrigued the first time I smelled this, and for me that is a good thing. First, I love the dark and rich leather accord in here, that might create the body odour scent that has been mentioned here. Personally, I love myself a little stink in a perfume, as long as it doesn't smell unwashed. The leather helps the perfume to become one with your skin and creates a dark and sensual leathery smoke that wafts around you. The oudh in here starts out very strong at first, but knows it's place in the perfume and melts with the other notes so it's never about the oudh alone. In a way, Songe reminds me of Tauers L'Air Du Desert du Marocain. Even though they aren't really alike, they have a similar Middle Eastern vibe. The balms, spices, the leather and the smoke create a sensual and dark perfume, but you can still smell it's a Guerlain because of it's elegance. It's pretty loud, but it stays classy all the time and I think a woman could definitely pull this off. It's on my to buy list!

Great smell. Very masculine. It's an oud that has no sweetness and caramel like qualities and I like it a lot. I find it very resinous and piney (as in pine resin and a bit of the freshly broken pine needles too). By the sounds of the notes you might think it is heavy, it is not. It is very easy to wear. With this smell there is no giving headache to anyone. In the beginning it kind of reminded me of Faqat Lil Rijal of Rasasi in a much more refined sort of way. But after trying both at the same time on separate arms, I find Songe d'un Bois d'Ete a far more superior smelling perfume than Faqat Lil Rijal. It is not a performance beast I must admit. For a good performance I found you need 4 spritz. It will take you probably 3 - 4 hours. Afterwards it's not going to project. The smell stays on my skin 8 to 10 hours. But I am guessing some people might get much longer longevity on their skins. Certainly bottle worthy. Longevity: 8/10 Sillage: 7/10 Smell: 10/10

Overall Rating: * * * * * (masterpiece) Songe d'un Bois d'Ete is a beautiful paradox: a perfectly balanced, unique, imaginative--and above all French-- take on contemporary Middle Eastern fragrances. It sparkles like a classic Guerlain. Yet its heart is a desert flower. Thierry Wasser has sprinkled just enough cumin (or bay leaf if the official note list is to be believed) into Songe to add sexual drama. And here is where it departs most imaginatively from so many contemporary "Oud plus whatever" niche fragrances: There is the lightest hint of pheromonal body odor, incredibly sensual on a bed of jasmine, oud, cedar, and patchouli. This dash of French sensuality is what separates Songe from so many pretenders and elevates to the level of a masterpiece. Songe will not disappoint those who obsess over performance metrics. It is a sillage and longevity beast, with at least 8 hours of good projection and half again as many as an intimate body fragrance.

I don’t have a signature fragrance...I did when I was in my 20’s, it was Joy...but I was perennially fickle and Joy lost favour over time. That’s not to say I won’t always have her in my collection. SDBd’E is the closest I have come to reconsidering the signature status. It’s positively divine in so many ways. A dark mysterious oriental treacle, shimmering with spices, resins and woods, embraces the wearer so tightly, almost but not quite suffocating the senses. It reminds me of Rose Nacree du desert, at least I sense the strong DNA between the two without the dry papery rose. I don’t think this is particularly masculine, but it is strong and pervasive. You’ll find people leaning into you throughout the day and you will know the reason why without a doubt! It’s distinctive and addictive, and performance is outrageous...10 hours and counting. BTW the jasmine emerges much later after application, still wrapped up with those exotic notes.

By now, you will have gathered that the note breakdown listed above is incorrect. Songe d'un Bois D'Ete opened with a burst of patchouli and woods on my skin. A bit reminiscent of old library with books and is slightly dirty. There is still a slight fresh spiciness which is good news for me because I intend to wear this all year round. My kids are not fans. They think it smells like beef jerky. But, I love it. It is unique in my collection. After about 30 mins., I noticed a very slight incense and warmth on the edge. The dry down remains a bit dry and dirty. This is overall a dry, woody, dirty unisex perfume which I intend to wear all year in various quantities. The longevity is great and the slight sweetness and myrrh give it a warmth that is sexy and intriguing. This is my first one from the Orient collection. I might have to consider the Rose Nacree and Encens as well.

About the name, I've watched and read many reviews with folks doing their best to translate from the French, something to the effect of 'A Dream of a Summer Wood' and subsequently trying to make sense of it. Which it doesn't, much. It's a fine literal translation but doesn't make much sense unless you know something which is obvious if you are French and profoundly not obvious if you aren't. 'Un Songe d'un Bois d'Ete' is a play on words. Specifically, the words 'Un Songe d'un Nuit d'Ete' which literally mean 'A Dream of a Summer Wood' but actually mean something a good deal more familiar... ... the French title of Shakespeare's 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'. I hope you enjoy the actual mystery of the name, now you know what the actual mystery is.

I am very pleased with Guerlain and Thierry Wasser. Songe D'Un Bois D'Été is the ultimate reconciliation for the multitude of atrocities committed by European perfume houses against Arabian perfumery's most treasured ingredient: aoud.. Aoud is given sweet justice, married to some of my favorite notes: patchouli, myrrh, saffron, jasmine and laurel. There is a "presence" of leather, in the same sense there is a "presence" of oud in Byredo's Accord Oud. In summary, I love everything about this composition!! How does this play out on my skin? It's been almost 15 hours since I applied this to my skin. My place is STILL filled with this wonderful scent and my nose has been a nympho in a constant state of ecstasy. I rest my case.....

Wow. I have been waiting to try this for a while and am so glad i finally did. I don't throw this around much, but for my tastes, this is a masterpiece! To smell from the sprayer, it is a beautiful freshly sharpened pencil meets old library- but in a sexy way, if that makes any sense. So very sensual and sexy, I would say with my limited experience with it, it is definitely worth the price of admission. I will have to seek out a bottle, maybe eschewing some of my lesser frags in the process. The performance is impressive also, 1 spray under my shirt and I could smell it all night, and even after changing, I caught whiffs coming off my chest. For me, it is perfection for a special time or occasion. 10/10

First thoughts after spraying: Oh, this stuff is kinky! It's not just a sex appeal fragrance, it's literally sweaty love act in a bottle! There's no oud, it's all about moist, nasty, leather giving a vibe of a hot attractive body during a sexual act. It is so natural and fleshy as it's possible. Haven't encountered the fragrance like this before, at least not on this scale! I imagine you can wear it just before the bed playtime when the other person feels the same as you. The arousal, the urge, the filthy love. All in a good way. A masterpiece! The persistence on clothes is amazing, the parameters are perfect on skin too. If you can get it for a decent price, give it a try and yes it's unisex.

On the opening i feel the smell that brings me to a suede, perfumed by agar wood, I think this is due to mixing of the oud with saffron. I also feel the slight body odor, which gradually becomes more noticeable, but also becomes closer to fuel smell, but the oud still predominates in the fragrance, and perhaps my nose are fooling me, but this mix reminds me of some totally different perfumes. As time goes on I smell a background more woody and smoky , but nothing to change the way I once felt here, just enough to give a more refined touch. I did not think this is so Animalic nor dated and not as dirty as I read about, but surely agree that it is the masterpiece on which many speak.

For a description of this one, please check my review of Bois Mysterieux (the new packaging): I did a side-by-side test at the Guerlain falgship store in Paris sit in a comfortable armchair, in the vip room: they are exactly identical. Who states the opposite stating an "ingredient changes" just doesn't understand the difference between ingredients and olfactive notes. Who states that the cheaper price means a difference in ingredients quality clearly doesn't understand the basic principles of marketing and profit margins, or simply has hard time admitting that they wasted their money on the original. Also: not similar at all with Dior Leather Oud.

Just bought this one last week. I love the strength of this one. To me its powerful but subtle at the same time, probably due to the dryness. It seems to last a long time. There is something dark & mysterious about this one. All day I experience clouds of fragrance at random times. The Eastern spices, leathery and woody notes make this one of my favourites. You sort of feel that fire. Like you are in an Arabic caravan somewhere in the desert. Men, This one will grow hair on your chest & give you that strut. Ladies, This one will put invisible stilettos on your feet & a leather whip in your hand, as you prance about your day.

‘The Dream of a Summer Wood’ is a shimmering beauty and has a central woody note of cedar and agarwood (oud), to which is added jasmine, saffron, cardamom, laurel, myrrh, patchouli and leather with stunning results. The perfume immediately transports you to a lush Indian forest in late Spring. Thiery Wasser has taken Guerlain to a totally new level with such beautiful compositions. More on the masculine side with very pronounced sillage and projection, this is a must try for wood and oud lovers. Elegant, unfussy modern Oriental perfumery that is immediately transportive and yet classy and restrained. Enjoy!

Sexy sweat. This is a stunning masterpiece! Seductive, sensual, dry wood with oudh/leather and in the beginning with some herbal notes. Perfume is uber luxurious and extremely addictive. Nothing cheap, very warm, cosy and for mature male audiences, 35+ at least. Dirty, earthy sweat in a very, very good way! Perfect perfume for attractive daddies. Forbidden for mama's boys and hipsters ;) I think that „oudh anxiety“ is, thanks to gods, finally fading, but because of the quality and its perfect composition, this perfume is staying with us forever as one of the best. This is sexy... oh mama!!! Rich and bold composition, it plays around spices with a base of oudy woods and a hint of sweet resins. Saffron is king here, follow by the cumin which provides this juice a very sexy and attracting character. I can even feel a forestry touch that makes this perfume something special, a real dream of a summer forest. Be careful, this is addictive and nothing compare with the latest releases of this unique french house... Now we talk again Guerlain... welcome back my dear brand. Uniqueness: High Scent: 9/10 Performance: High Would I buy it: Yes (already part of my collection)

It was 93 degrees today. Moderate humidity. I sprayed 4 sprays of Songe Du Bois D'Ete EDP on my white cotton shirt, waited an hour then got dressed and went out. This perfume captivated me with the most beautiful, dry, salty and incensed woods. It wafted at my all day long. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Even when I showered and changed in the evening, I was still smelling it throughout my house. This is absolutely beautiful and I think the best performance I've had is in very hot, humid weather. There is no sweetness and it is intriguingly dry and spicy. Great, classy summer scent.

Wanna be enchanting without saying a word? The house of Guerlain has created something that accomplishes that feat. This is a finely fragranced leather infused scent with accords of spicy, sweet and woody notes. Simply put, Songe is a force to be reckoned with. This slays most leather based perfumes in circulation. What i like most about this scent is that it lingers long after you apply it. Once upon a time, it was difficult to find this in the U.S. For those interested in checking this out, Guerlain Palazzo in Las Vegas has bottles. -BLIND BUY WORTHY AWARD-

I Love this one! This is absolutely gorgeous! It's flirty, powerful, luxurious and sensual all without being too much. A true work of art and one of the best i have ever smelled. This is what its all about... ******Update (Years more into my fragrance journey)**** I still find this fragrance to be enjoyable, but the oud is not as present as i once thought it was, if at all. If its in there, its very faint. This makes me wonder how many others somehow think that oud is the center piece of this fragrance without actually smelling authentic oud...

Oh my!!! I blind bought this and was a little afraid of what my nose would smell but my goodness, this is one of the best fragrances I've smelled in a very long time. I am so pleased that I'm considering buying a backup bottle. When you first spray it your hit with spicy saffron and oud, to my nose. Then after a while it starts to settle down and the patchouli comes through while maintaining a soft spice. You really have to experience yourself to understand. Do yourself a favor and at least get a sample. Hard not to love... 10/10

Smokey and resinous. This does it for me. Very much a Guerlain. Definitely on par with some of the preformulation releases from Amouage. Very smokey all the way through with safron and patchouli peaking up for much needed spice. Very much unisex IMO This can be a bomb so spray carefully. It's great if you live in the colder weather or have really harsh winters. No one will smell like this. One of the best releases from the house of Guerlain. Thierry Wasser does it again. Thank you. I would consider this a masterpiece.

I bought it from maison guerlain in Paris. The cumin note which i find very sexy appears briefly in the opening notes.I certainly detect oud wood and saffron yet nothing of my beloved jasmine.This slightly reminds me of armani's oud royal.Songe is a very long lasting expensive smelling and of course expensive fragrance.190per 75ml.You dont need much, 2-3 sprays will last and last. So great longevity yet medium sillage.I find it dry, earthy, woody and erotic.A unique fragrance by one of the greatest perfume houses.

Deserved masterpiece. Ebony grand atmosphere can be said that the soul of this fragrant, mellow, full-bodied, very charming. In the perfume of the same theme, the patchouli, leather, myrrh, saffron are nothing, jasmine and bay leaves is rare. Dried bitter ebony, with a little spice, rich flavor. Although the original cut-off, but Guerlain has launched a replica, it is said. Unruly one, diffusion, fragrant strong, at least 12 hours. Highly addictive, must be psychologically prepared before the smell.

Wearing it reminds me of hot summers in the Mediterranean and the aroma of pine trees and cones. It is a very sensual fragrance and definitely unisex. I would not agree with those who claim this to be a male scent. Of course it is by no means girly either, mind you. Edit: There is no oud in there. What I get, apart from the almost edible fragrance of pine kernels, is a hint of the finest leather. The scent itself wears like a second skin, more like a balm. It's incredibly beautiful.

Songe d'un Bois d'Ete "sahara alsharq" a night time fragrance. mysterious, dark, elegant and unique. it can be worn by men and women. give it sometime to develop in order to enjoy this beauty. where i live, these kind of blends are not unique. because we smell these notes almost everyday.. but we appreciate it very much. It had Monstrous longivity.i can detect Indian dried lemon and athmad "kajal". you will not agree unless you live in Arabia and know what i am talking about. =)

Myrrh and Leather A warm, spicy opening like coriander, with a dry, peppery character and a metallic scent reminiscent of a hot water heater, intertwined with light honey and cumin. This blends with a saffron-like spicy sweetness and a woody heart, evoking the feeling of walking through a forest on a hot, smoky summer day. The base is an oriental resinous-leathery composition of myrrh, vanilla, and patchouli. Its noted Oud but its more leathery than oud notes.

Ahhh. Dreaming of summer wood... Who isn't? Am I right? Nudge, nudge. But, that's what it means!! Literally. Dreaming of summer wood......in an Arabian dessert, relaxing. Bedtime. Zzzzz I have an old bottle with Arabic writings. At the time I thought the other two in this trilogy were beautiful but too feminine. Now I am having second thoughts. I need to try them again. I need to try them. Maybe I can let out my inner French dessert wench this time.

العطر جميل في البداية مزحوم في المكونات الرائعة التي تشعرك بالسعادة حين التقاطها بانفك الواحدة تلوى الاخرى .. ثم لا يلبث بعد ذلك حتى يصبح عطر لاذر .. الجلود النتنة قليلاً تذكرني ربما بعطر فيغجز من الدو .. ارى ان هذا العطر يصلح ان يكون قاعدة لكثير من العطور .. افضل خلطه مع احد عطور المجموعة اما ان يتعطر به لوحده فانا لا افضل ذلك .. شخصياً لا اتخيل هذه الرائحة على امرأة سوف تصيبني بالاشمئزاز

Sometimes I wish I never would have discovered this. Because it makes half my collection seem so pointless in comparison to this rich, dirty, gorgeous scent. I love myrrh, and it plays so well with the Oud here. Simply stunning and is now the most addictive scent I've ever smelled. Scent, projection, longevity, and sillage are all 10/10. A Geurlain work of art. (287)

The opening is softer than I expected and mostly centered on spicy saffron with a bitter, soft, balsamic oud. Then it starts to evolve and the myrrh with a subtle sweet jasmine and provide a slightly pissy aroma; but it's all so warm, balsamic and bitter sweet, that works marvelously together. It's much tamer than I thought, it's very well done and balanced. 9/10

If you live for mens fragrances, or the art of perfume in general, you owe it to yourself to check this out. I want to throw every praise word i can think of at this. Must have tried 50 high end fragrances in the store today and this one was so far ahead of the others in quality of ingredients and sensitivity of blending it was in a category all by itself.

Oh dear, that didn't take long. As soon as I got the sample and sprayed it, I went looking for a full bottle. This is a bit dirty but I love it. It makes me think of my Galaad Lubin and also of Grimoire Anatole Lebreton. And Papillon' s Salomé. I keep sniffing and will certainly compare with the Bois Mysterieux new version of this perfume.

this is very masculine!!! i cant see a woman wearing this!!!! NEVER!!! its dry woods and incense of best quality. it is both supernatural and earthy in nature and resembles the bukhoor smell in the desert mixed with the cardamom of the coffe in the desert at night. this is cold smoke. very unique!!!!

Wonderful, scent, and despite the comments here regarding difficulty finding this one, I found it at Saks in NY. But it was tucked away under the counter, and I had to ask for it. In fact, they had all three in this series that were designed by Thierry Wasser for $270 each per 75ml.

A masterpiece from Guerlain. Smokey, leathery, woody, and HEAVENLY!! A bit rough and sceary at first, but after 30-40 min the magic settles in, and it just gets better and better. 10/10 -On top of my wish-list :)

Correct notes from Guerlain website Top notes: bay leaf, neroli. Heart notes: patchouli, saffron note, jasmine, cedar wood. Base notes: leather, myrrh. I don't know what people are smelling but it isn't oud.

Just a marvelous blend - dark, smokey, leathery and woody - dry and fresh with a slight balmy quality - very gentle and smooth yet aggressive - powerful - very well done Guerlain *applauds*

Someone recently asked me what my favorite is. I think this one might be it. It's been a few years since my last comment. If you asked me right now I would likely still say this one.

Reminds me of Oud Wood by TF. It has little sweetness so it is very smoky and bitter. I really like this perfume but if you like sweet perfumes you might not going to enjoy this

The most impressive and luxurious high-end perfume my nose had ever experienced so far. This is the type of fragrance that has "WOW" presence. 100 out of 100 for me!
