1981 Los Angeles Women guess

I just got this today at Burlington for $14 on sale. To me when I first sprayed it was a soapy close to skin fragrance. Great for office wear or if you work in the medical field very inoffensive or even great for going to bed. But.... Then it hit me! Call me crazy but when I sprayed this the scent memories in my head went crazy! I was like I've smelled this before. It gave me a very nostalgic feeling and I only get that with classic vintages. When through my collection and nothing! Sprayed it one more time and it hit me! This to my nose is a softer more modern version of Maja! Oh this is nostalgic for me my grandma RIP used to wear the perfume, the after shower powder and even some cosmetics like face powder and blushes from Maja. I used to sneak in her room just to smell her face powder sitting neatly on her vanity, next to an unopened tiny Maja soap. This reminds me of hugging her and getting the subtle smell of her Maja powder. I love this and it's going to be in my collection forever.

It’s so beautiful, especially for the price. It feels summery, nostalgic, and cosmopolitan - it delivers exactly what it promises. I mostly detect orange, white floral, something boozy, and a bit of vanilla. Not too much, I’m very anti gourmand and fatigued on vanilla, so don’t be afraid of this one if you are too. Regardless, it’s greater than the sum of its parts.

This scent has become my favourite out of all my scents and I wear it daily. After the initial dry down it smells “out of the shower fresh” with soft citrus and pear notes settling into a soft skin musky vanilla. I adore it. Best blind buy ever.

This perfume is so beautiful and bright, it is exactly what i imagine living in Los Angeles to be like. It is a very in your face tropical fruity smell with a hint of musk. Feminine but yet masculine. Highly highly recommend

This smells 100% like Australian pink musk sticks and I am so here for it. IYKYK

l had to be patient to fully appreciate this scent. The first few minutes after spraying, it will give you this bitter smell from a ruthless zestiness, but after a while it settles down. Once the floral elements start to become more prominent, the scent gets better. The musk and ambroxan becomes the backbone without being too sharp. Unfortunately an hour after application it becomes skin scent — if you don’t really care about performance or planning to wear this on intimate scenarios, pull the trigger. Oh by the way, I’m a 26 yo old male who hasn’t smelt many female fragrwnces. So, pardon my limited knowledge or uneducated takes lmao. Edit 9/5/2022: Bought my sister this fragrance for her birthday. She likes the smell so much and so does my mum. I believe Guess 1981 LA has good quality since my sister’s daily drivers are niche fragrances, but she said this perfume is smooth.

This starts out smelling like citronella, then it begins to smell like the yellow Halls candy they sell in Canada for sore throats, then it gets more soft, creamy and powdery smelling. It's a basic b*tch scent for sure, but it's really, really nice at the same time. To me and on my skin it smells like a more modern and sexy Mon Guerlain. They perform the same on me... I get about 2 or 3 hours out of it then it becomes more of a skin scent. I find this scent to be so calming, relaxing, pretty and subtly sexy. I've only been to Los Angeles once and this perfume doesn't smell anything like my time spent there, but the bottle and the name of the perfume make me want to go back so bad and wear it the whole time I'm there! I imagine myself driving around Hollywood Hills at dusk wearing this and listening to really dreamy music. I really like this one!

This is the first guess fragrance I bought. It was on sale for only $10. I have the fragrance mist version of this. I don’t know if there’s any difference between the mist and the perfume. For me the fragrance mist smells similar to Prada candy somehow. I don’t know if I’m the only one that thinks that. The scent is very nice but it doesn’t last long. I can not smell this on myself after 3-4 hours. If you want a scent on you while you're at home, running errands and don't want to use up your good perfumes then this is a good option. I like to spray this on after taking my showers before heading to bed. This is a fruity floral type of scent and is a bit citrusy in the beginning.

I've never owned any guess fragrances, but I decided to try a few of them out. I really like this...well I love the opening. The opening on my skin is oranges, peony, and musk. It's really nice until about 2 hours later. It turns into pure musky vanilla on my skin. I tried it many times, tried to like it but I couldn't. Maybe I'll try it again in the winter and see what happens. I'm not a fan of vanilla sweet perfumes they usually give me headaches. But if the vanilla is blended well, it can turn out to be a real beauty on me. Oh well I guess I'll wait and see how this does in winter. If it's still bad on me, then I will give it to my niece.

This is a shy younger sister to Guess Gold! It has less zing and a more muted character. If guess Gold is a sunset plus fireworks lighting up the sky, 1981 LA is a mellow stroll to the local bar as you notice a beautiful sunset. But both give sunset vibes. Truthfully I think both turn out to be a bit of an ambery sweet fruits indistinct aura that is pleasant, cosy, and a bit sexy all at once. Like a warm hug. Totally unisex but marketed to women? Whatever! I like it but already have Gold-too similar.

It's very similar to Amor Amor. The sweety, a little bit sour and tender scent. Delicate, soft, ideal for every day. I think that the red currant and praline are the main notes here. I generally love the combination of sweet and sour. Here, this combination is in ideal proportions. By the way, the longevity and sillage is moderate. I have to re-apply it during the day, but it doesn't matter to me, because it's very beautiful and feminine scent. Suitable for any time of the year! Successful purchase!

If Guess 1981 is the scent of office servitude, Guess 1981 Los Angeles is the scent of Friday freedom. This is the vibe of a post-work first date. Changing from your sensible slingbacks into a sexy platform wedge. Having that extra drink at happy hour. The ambroxan noses out the fun, punchy florals that open this. Longevity is shit but I bought this for $12 at Ross so it is what it is.

This is a very pleasant floral scent, smells great when you apply it. But, it has zero longevity, projection, or sillage. You will have to reapply hourly and it will still fade. Not sure how they made such a weak scent. It is an EDT, but this is weaker than a body mist.

This smells nicer than a lot of their recent releases. It is akin to amor amor by cacharel. Its weakness is atrocious though

Quite a generic blend, the orange note is noticeable but not stellar. There is something spicy or musky I must say, perhaps it's the ambroxan. Any sweetness sensed in this is shy to my nose. Give it an hour to become a skin scent. Not a must buy in my view and I am usually not too impressed by Guess fragrances. Maybe I'll try the Guess for nights. It's similar to Guess "Gold" I might add. To those who love this, power! For me it's a miss.

Update: okay, so now I’m in love. Is there any way to change my rankings? So I’m pretty burned out on vanilla which is my go to note in the winter and I have just gotten a new pear scented body lotion, so I thought I’d give this another chance layered on top. Now it’s giving a citrus that also happens to be deep and sparkling. The orange is the most forward of the notes, but I do get the peony here and there. Really quite gorgeous.

For me, it doesn't smell sweet at all, the scents that stand out the most are the floral and citric notes. Since I am used to gourmand and fruity fragrances, I can't get used to it. Feels a little on the unisex side rather than on the female. I mostly use it when going to hot places like the beach, since it smells pretty fresh. It lasts enough on me and would recommend it for summer time.

I’m just not sure about this. The opening is pretty alcoholic and a bit screechy me, but that’s doesn’t last long. Eventually it’s giving me a very okay, inoffensive citrus/ floral. It’s fine, maybe I’ll warm up to it eventually, but at this point, I see it collecting dust.

A slight sweet soapy smell that has a little green or spice to it. Smells like a cool aunt when you go in for a hug.

Never been a fan of Guess perfumes on random tryouts, but saw this on sale, and being a child of 80s I wanted to give it a try. Initial impression: Basic, generic scent, that I have smelled on people before, many times.... it's cheap stuff, musky, amber and muted white florals; sweet too. musk and amber hang close to skin, almost like a Ange ou demon Givenchy knock off scent in the drydown part. Givenchy I actually like, but not this perfume. My skin warmed it up so amber really took over. I had to wash it off.

I’m not sure what went wrong with this one, but it just came out a stinky, musky mess on my skin. I wore Guess as a youngster quite often and loved their scents. 1981 seems to loudly proclaim all the notes I’m not fond of while those I like hide behind them. A cheap smelling pear and a dated jasmine quickly overpowered by the muskiest musk that ever musked. For the record, I’m not a musk fan. A disappointing blind buy for me for sure.

This is so beautiful. Like a perfumed expensive soap. An every day easy to wear fragrance.

Guess's perfumes are terrible to say the least. A bug spray mixed with lemon pledge....

1st spray smells like the cologne aisle at dollar tree. Once it settles I detect a faint whiff of the cedar note and that's it. I was expecting more of a nice beachy scent from the packaging. Not surprised this is already in discount stores.

A not well balanced mix of white floral fruity notes, cedar and musk. Synthetic cheap smell, spicy, quite warm summer fragrance. Very poor sillage and longevity. Used my sample but won't be investing in full size product.

Gaggy sweet powdery scent with NONE of the "notes" described.

I can't stand it when people make incorrect, misleading & misguided Blanket comments like ALL GUESS fragrances are bad. Have they tried them ALL? I doubt it. Are these people trying to speak for ALL other peoples tastes and Body Chemistry. With negative comments like the ones made they certainly are trying and are doing an injustice to lovers of perfume ALL over the world. I own ALOT of high end perfumes too ( I don't have the time to list them all on my profile atm) but I can seriously say from EXPERIENCE that GUESS has some amazing Scents too. I know because I don't feel need to be a Snob and at the end of the day Perfume is ART and too many variables need to be considered before making such statements. Marciano by GUESS IMHO tested is a masterpiece and firm favourite of mine even though I have thousands of others I could use. People should try it out and form their own opinions by testing and doing research, taking into consideration things like costs and "For whom the Brand is aiming the Product for". OFC this will be light and airy , its made for seriously hot weather....

I loved the body mist tester at Ross, I could smell it all afternoon on my wrist so the next week I bought the perfume and wow, it was kind of a screechy nothing so I returned it. But now reading the other reviews I bet spraying out a few spritz, letting it breath and macerate might help. The tester had a cool beachy hippy vibe without being tropical or patch heavy, really nice.

This reminds me of a slightly fruitier version of Tommy Bahamas for Her perfume with the pretty pink bottle with a pearl embedded in it. Take that as you will as it’s not my favorite fragrance but it’s also not awful since it’s so affordable and basic. They both have the vanilla, orange and white floral DNA with minor differences.

I purchased this as blind buy. I have a few other Guess fragrances and I enjoy them all. This one smells just as good (but different) than the others, but I found it to have no lasting power at all. The only time I use it is when I'm ready for bed. I love the fragrance, but I wish it lasted longer. I will not repurchase.
