Guess 1981

I've had this for the last two plus years. Yesterday I noticed that it was getting low and I'm moving and trying to get my collection smaller in order to not have to pack so much glass with only a little juice left. I had originally gotten it in spring of 2020 and really liked it, I used it very often when I first bought it. As most fragrances something happens that moves it out of my general rotation and I end up rediscovering it. I must say I really thought that 1981 LA was my favorite out of the 1981 line, until yesterday and this very moment. Maybe it's that it's the coolest temp I've ever worn it in or maybe the fact that I'm wearing a large over sized knit sweater, I'm not sure. One thing I am sure of though is that it's longevity and sillage is way better than I first experienced. It got my attention so much that I felt I should jump on here and say if you see this at a Ross or Marshalls any of those places it's worth grabbing. It isn't generic imo. Just felt like I needed to come rep this frag because I didn't realize just how much I actually love it. ❤️✌️

This has been my signature during the last year. I love its freshness and violets are my favorite when it comes to flowery fragrances. Can't get enough of it! The longevity is typical of an EDT, which means it's not huge, but perfect for everyday wear. I also like Guess Girl Belle, which is perhaps a more complex fragrance. Guess 1981 doesn't develop too much on my skin and this is convenient for me when I want to smell good but I don't want my perfume to be noticed by everyone that passes me by. I think I can call myself a Guess fan thanks to this fragrance. As much as I love sensual, heavy, spicy perfumes as Dior Addict or D&G Sicily, I turn to Guess 1981 when I wear a summer dress or even an office suit in springtime. I'll keep the vanilla and spicy fragrances for fall-winter and nightwear. Guess 1981 makes me feel young, happy and feminine. Try this fragrance, it may be the beginning of a lifelong love story.

This was a quasi blind buy for me. I tested the strip in a magazine and was intrigued...so when I received an Amazon gift card for Christmas this year, I figured I purchase it and try it out. I am in love with this fragrance! To me it's a breath of fresh air in a bottle :) I find it to be light, airy, and the dry down on me is a floral sweetness in the most feminine and romantic way I have experienced from a fragrance! I feel it is great for use at the office/school, and I can really see this as a day into night one too... It's like that kind of scent that can go from being a professional woman to a romantic and seductive woman in the same day :) With the price being pretty decent (I bought for $19.99 U.S. dollars on Amazon for the big bottle!) I would suggest it to be a pretty safe purchase if you want to give it a try :) Enjoy!

Guess 1981 is cool, fresh, clean violet musk -- quite unisex -- with a touch of pear for sweetness. It has the freshness of almost a celery or parsley note -- must be the violets! -- and they and the musk dominate. It's beautiful when I don't feel like anything super-sweet, strong, or floral. It's a soft scent that lasts, with minimal projection, for about 3 hours; I still need to try layering it over iso e super to see if that improves the longevity. It's classy, clean, and cozy, perfect after an evening shower or at any time you don't want to overwhelm yourself or anyone else with your perfume. It's reminiscent, to my nose, of a lower-key, simpler version Guerlain Apres L'Ondee, with its cool, damp violets. Very pretty...

Rather than comparing this to Mojave ghost I’d rather compare it to glossier you, (even bbw if you musk which is very sharp) this is a bit less sharp, But this is very faint smell lovely in my opinion. Violet, MUSK something faintly sweet maybe pear or if cut pear and put it in water that’s the smell I get. It has that water quality to it. It’s smooth, and musky and clean and sweet. If it only had sillage and longevity but I don’t think it’s supposed to be enjoyed like that. It won’t smell good if it were cloying. This is a clean crisp white shirt type of fragrance. It’s a thought. That’s it. It’s not supposed to last. I miss it and keep reapplying it.

i just bought it last night, this brings me a memory of a perfume from 90's that i knew from Bazaar magazine my mom had. The notes is woody, but very floral, turned out it is violet. very good for daily office cause it gives you an impression of clean and organized women. the silage is medium, it is not strong, but it stays overnight, i just woke up and still smell it on my neck. if this perfume noticeable from far, like you can smell it when somebody walk pass you, i would like to make it as my signature, but it is almost too soft, i guess my adventure has not ended here.

Such a pretty, clean floral scent perfect for spring and summer. It’s definitely giving pretty clean girl aesthetic. Beautiful, light fragrance perfect for the office or a hot summer day, the violet really comes through at least on my skin. Longevity isn’t the greatest but at the price point you can afford to spritz liberally. Was a blind buy and no regrets, can be used for an everyday fragrance and it’s a crowd pleaser for sure, not offensive at all.

This is such a pretty scent. Quite nostalgic for a millenial. It reminds me of a perfume from the 90s but better. I found myself reaching for it more frequently than the other ones in my collection. If only it wasn’t so weak.

This is a really pretty scent, perfect for work. But, it's a very light/airy, powdery fragrance. I recommend over-spraying( 12-14 sprays) this one if you want it to last for 5 hours

Beautiful fragrance. Wish it lasted longer but I love the scent. Will never be without this. The powder/wood/musk is very well balanced. It would be hard for someone to hate this

I normally don't like powdery fragrances, but I love the smell of real violets. This is the closest thing I've found to what my nose was looking for. I love this!

I love the feminine scent of this, it's not overbearingly flowery, in my opinion. I can smell the Musk which must help make me love this more.

Smells like a watered down version of Mojave ghost. I was surprised how much mojave ghost reminded me of this.

I got this perfume for the “1981” name. As an 80s baby & an 80s fan. I couldn’t pass by this perfume and needed to add it to my collection. First impression, the box and bottle are both pretty. The scent it’s self is very pleasing. It’s very light. Flowery, but not too flowery. Powdery, but not too powdery. It’s a perfect balance. A note almost smells like the original ivory hand lotion. That familiar clean flowery aroma. It definitely reminds me of the 80s. As a child I was given a perfume for Christmas and this smells very similar. This would be a perfect scent to introduce young girls to perfume. It has a very sweet and innocent aroma. The longevity is neither amazing or short. About 3 hours, which seems typical for a middle tier eau de toilette. Probably not something I would reach for to wear often, as it’s just too light and youthful for me. Will definitely be spraying often, just to kick start the sun filled, powdery memories of playing with my little ponies, listening to the bangles & the pure fun of growing up in the 80s

Blind bought this because well... it was on sale and I just couldn't resist, as I generally like Guess fragrances, and thought I would give this one a try as well. I'm glad I did, I think this is a nice, easily likeable scent. I can detect the musk and some violet, and a tad bit of soft woodsy-ness. The rest of the notes don't really stand out, at least not to my nose. I would also echo the general consensus that this is a good everyday office-safe fragrance. Sillage is soft, longevity is a few hours. General EDT quality that is common among drugstore fragrances. Don't expect anything extraordinary, I'm sure the creators weren't expecting to make the next iconic scent either. This is a simple, soft flowery frag, and while of course there are many like this one, it is quite good for what it is.

I'd blind bought this hoping to get prominent fresh, lovely violet so was initially disappointed as I can barely discern the violet in this. At first spray on paper it was just sharply powdery. And it is pretty powdery on skin too, but warmer rather than sharp, the musk, jasmine and sandalwood blend really smoothly. On clothes I can also pick up the pear in amongst it. The sillage is pretty much non existent though, and the longevity is terrible too. You would have to massively and frequently overspray if you are not one for quieter perfumes. I think it would be nice sprayed on your scarf in the winter though for example. I do like it despite the poor performance and it can be picked up pretty cheaply. It's an easy reach for quiet days or places where a strong perfume is not appropriate.

Guess 1981 opens beautifully as a fresh, clean musky floral and brings to mind a number of scents from the 1970's. The opening reminded me of Coty Muguet du Bois, some soaps of that era, and a shampoo called "Gee, Your Hair Smells Terrific!" Oddly, in the second phase I became a bit anosmic: it seemed to have disappeared. So after only about 15 to 20 minutes, I applied 2 sprays more. In phase 3, after about an hour, the violet came out. Not a powdery violet, but rather a subtle, slightly tarry violet, as in Pharrell Girl, which happens to be the sort of violet I like! That was the end of its evolution... Unfortunately, for me the longevity and projection are terrible. I'd love it if 1981 continued as in the opening. Perhaps this will be better-performing in the summer.

This perfume was a surprising delight. As a woman who likes perfumes with musky, woody undertones, I don't own any overtly sweet, floral or fruity smells. 1981, however, is perfectly balanced in all its notes: violet, jasmine, and pear with a light mix of amber and musk. This is such a feminine and girly perfume, it's difficult for me to dislike it. It's youthful and fun without being too complex in its transition from the top notes to the base notes. The sillage and longevity are average, nothing too impressive, but for the price I paid, this was quite worth it. I definitely plan on wearing this on days when I want to feel extra cute or if I'm wearing a lot of pink!

It smells like baby wipes. Very clean, fresh, a tad sweet. It evokes watery almost translucent milk to me (as if you added water to milk). It is definitely a bit lactonic It has a bit of J'Adore DNA. J'Adore smells like this perfume but on steroids (and it is also another perfume that smells like baby wipes/baby cream to me. Specifically from the brand "Mimadito" in Latam) You could layer it with vanilla, something woody or more musk! (Or even with sand+fog violet sandalwood perfume oil) It makes me want to cough a bit but it is really good. Perfect for when you have no idea what to wear :-)

I swapped CK Eternity Now an VLJ Noir for this one and Lacoste pour femme intense without smelling any of those. I have to say I had higher expectations from lacoste and I thought this one is not gonna impress me but opposite become true. Not saying it's an groundbreaking perfume but it is really nice, soft woody floral. Innocent and elegant scent for any type of woman of any age category. Perfect for office, great for walks with you dog in the park and also suitable for any family occasion. Universal cheapie fragrance in nice minimalistic bottle that won't offend anyone :)

I had never smelled this OG fragrance before, and it's so much sweeter than I expected! Especially for being released so long ago, I don't think the sweetened pear thing was in vogue as much as it has been lately. It's the note that I detect the very most here. Yes...laced by sandalwood and a clean, creamy musk, but pear is the star. It's really nice, and I think one of those ultimate office-safe fragrances. It quite literally smells like this time of year too...sunny late April-early May. It's very pretty! It's a cute little fruity floral. 🌼

A very light,slightly sweet and clean floral fragrance,this reminds me of Elizabeth Arden pretty but a little bit more on the fresher side,I can see this fragrance being a good everyday fragrance or even a summer one,while I do like this fragrance it’s not my favourite one from guess and that title goes to guess dare which I love but still guess 1981 is a lovely fragrance that I can see myself wearing often.

What a surprise to read it can be uninteresting for some. I do like it a lot, it is the epitome and the luminous balance of an absolutely irreprochable taste. I find no mistake in it, this is The Woman, her radiant beauty, from her fragile bag to her secret compact, from her diaphanous purple dress to her silky free hair. The scent dances on my skin, fresh, soft, it is exactly what I was looking for.

This is a everyday citrus scent. Is very light and last about 1-2 hours, also this is a close to skin scent. This will be great like a grab and go no brainier fragrance. Also this scent is very familiar to me it reminds me of a Gap fragrance from back in the day but I can't pin point which one.

This is really pretty and soft. At fist it's floral, I pick up the violet, but after about 30 mins, it starts to turn into a lovely musky cozy skin scent. I actually think this could be worn any time of the year, but it feels especially spring-like to me. This would be an easy reach.

This is a really nice floral. Nothing is overdone, it's all just expertly blended. The only issue is that it kind of disappears after half an hour. I got the 100ml for $20 so I can't complain if I need to over-spray and reapply but if performance was better this would be perfect.

This is how you do a modern woody fragrance that doesn't smell like grandma or an old cabin. The violet gives it a note of varied sophistication and the jasmine keeps it from getting too heavy. Suitable for all ages and well priced too.

This is a nice musky pick me up, a refreshing edt. On me it stays for like 2/3 hours with a bit of a after whiff. My sister also has it and on her it smells very different, amazing what the ph in skin can do with fragrances ^^

I recently purchased this perfume. I like it, I don't love it but it makes for a nice everyday, to the office perfume. Sometime you just want a nice subtle perfume and this fits the bill, without being boring.

This is a light fresh young scent, typical of guess. I don't understand the 1981 association, but I guess I wouldnt. It reminds me a bit of Abercrombie 8 which was my signature 10 yrs ago, but not as good.

I liked this, the kind of perfume to wear to work wear you smell lovely but don't waft out the room. I liked the violet notes and found it gentle and floral without being old fashioned.

This is very different from all the ones i own. The ambrette is very noticeable. This reminds me of le labo fragrances. So beautiful and sophisticated. So easy to wear and blind buy.

so so cozy! this is my fluffy jumper/pyjama fresh out the shower scent, powdery and warm but clean. wish it lasted longer but i don't mind for the price if i have to over spray

It's nice (and nothing more than nice), but so weak. Took me many sprays to feel anything at all and then after 1 hour it's - boom! - gone.

This smells good. Smells like a female version of Sean Johns Unforgivable for men. I am surprised no one has commented on that.

Clean, musky and sharp. Not creamy at all. It's great for casual days when running errands.

Blind buy. I like, but prefer the Indigo. This needs layering.

I don't understand what people mean by the violet note. If I think of a violet (Viola odorata), it's a scent of deep purple wild violets in spring you can catch wafts of in the woods or gardens. It's a very distinct, unmistakable scent and most of perfumes declaring having a violet note have no such thing in them at all. Including this one. It's still a nice fragrance though, clean, slightly lactonic and reminds me of Avon's Pur Blanca from more than 20 years ago. Since it immediately transported me to times when I was about 11, I wouldn't be able to wear it again. It belongs to the past for me.

I love Mojave Ghost but it's too over price and took the risk to blind buy Guess 1981 after studied the note is similar. Got it and very disappointed, as it was state as EDT. They smell similar but the I can't barely smell anything on my skin, no projection, no silage, no longevity. Is a skin skin skin scent and very faint. This is not even a EDT performance, is a cologne perfume. Even body mist have better performance than this. The smell is great but I think it was too weak.

Sure does smell a tiny bit like mojave ghost. At least mojave ghost just by the title reveal that it’s a faint scent, this does not. I oversprayed like hell and all I got was the faintest of violet. VERY faint. Gone in less than fiften minutes. Astonishing, really. Maybe this will suit Casper the ghost on a date night.

So disappointed I couldn’t detect the promised floral notes of jasmine or violet, nor the fruity freshness of pear. Instead, it feels flat and lacks both sweetness and vibrancy 😐 The only time I found it remotely pleasant was right after a shower, but beyond that, it left me underwhelmed

I honestly can’t believe how light and short lasting this fragrance is. I’m a 3 spray kind of girl and it would take 30 of this, and it would only last 1-2 hours. Super annoying.

I blind bought this based on the notes, searching for violet. All I smell is ambrette and pear wine.

This is one of those fragrances people often describe as clean leaning to powdery, but unfortunately, its biggest weakness is the performance. Even with a generous application, I only get about two hours of noticeable scent. After that, it becomes extremely close to the skin, to the point where it's barely detectable. There are many other perfumes in this style that perform much better, so I don't think this one stands out enough to justify buying it. Guess fragrances are usually affordable, but personally I've had very little luck with the ones I've tried. Most of them have left me disappointed. It opens with a pleasant combination of violet and musk, giving it a soft, clean, slightly powdery feel. As it dries down, the fragrance becomes more woody, while still maintaining that clean/powdery character. Unfortunately, the lack of longevity makes it difficult for me to recommend.

Very nice, light, non-offensive, calm, balanced scent. No shrieky notes. Reminds me of another scent, but not sure which. which means it is not groundbreaking. Very pretty though, can't imagine anyone hating it. This would be a good perfume to buy someone as a gift. Like others have said, this would be a good work perfume. edit: The more I wear, this could skew as a younger consumer's perfume. I would welcome a lotion to accompany this. Edit: so boring, I ended up getting rid of this. Not terrible, just not my style.

First few minutes smell like something perfect for a young adult woman, pleasant and flowery. Then it becomes just musk. Soft musk indeed, but just that. No character. Not memorable.

I blind bought this one because some said it smells like Mojave Ghost byredo but nothing like it. Very cheap quality perfume I guess the price justifies it

BORING! Nothing exciting, unique or special about this. It's your everyday run of the mill usual scent, Yawn!
