Aspen

2025. I’ve tried all fragrances from this brand as decants. I’ve also tried like 100 random decants this year. All of Guy Foxs fragrances are BIG flops. Their reserve line fragrances are the only thing remotely worth it. Everything smells like basic white boy cheap cologne eventually melting down into this tacky sandalwood scent they apply to everything. Me personally I gave it all away. Fairway is another great consideration but I’d rather reach for PDM Greenley. That being said - this one kinda rocks. It hits the nail on the head as being a genuine staple fall scent. Giving afnan 9pm vibes but better tailored to fall. It’s a bit mainstream but it’s well rounded & fall-classy - can wear it in most situations, even at work. I bought this fella 100% planning on sending back & I'm actually gonna keep it. It’s a genuinely unique vanilla scent with fall spices that pair really well. Longevity is decent for the price you pay: 4-5 hours. 9 to 5 work day and it’s gone off my skin by 2pm-ish. Is the sandalwood in the dry down? Yes, but i think they tweaked it into something new = the Autumn Leaves note, which blends much better with the counterpart spices and mixes really well. These are young batches - but with long term maceration it’ll become fantastic and one of the best fall picks to go to. Wear it and go outside in October & you’ll be a happy lil f*cker. Cheers!

Bottle number 116 out of 999 in the first batch. I have three of the four founders reserve in my collection, and I must admit this one perhaps my favorite one. They typically tend to be somewhat linear in their opening to dry down, and this one is no different. It’s cool, crisp, and very inviting. It leads with a mild spice, and the vanilla and oak moss are very cohesive. The saffron is very subtle because of the other spice notes, and the patchouli and violet flowers are very subtle. When I smell this I can vision myself standing outside in the fall time with leaves around me, damp oak trees, and a denim jacket due to the mildly cold temperatures. Overall this one is a banger. If you loved Fairway or Nightcap, then you won’t be disappointed by olfactory vision that Guy Fox continues to do with it’s Founder’s Reserve line.

Aspen, which is part of the Founder's Reserve collection of premium Guy Fox fragrances, is a really nice scent. After giving myself quite a few sprays from the sample spritzer, Boss Bottled Absolu immediately came to mind. Now, those two aren't the same and really not too similar. What they share is the same masculine, smooth and spicy type of vibe that most guys would associate with a winter fragrance. Boss has a heavy emphasis on leather while Aspen leans a little bit more into spices without the leather. It also has an interesting "dried leaves" note. To be honest, I didn't really get that. To me, it seemed to impart more of a dusty type of aspect. Aspen is also drier and less sweet than Boss Bottled Absolu. Performance wise, Aspen is a bit reserved in the projection department but it's longevity is pretty good. I was still getting good whiffs as a skin scent about 6 hours after applying. I was expecting better performance, especially since I have Nightcap which is another in the Founder's Reserve collection and one I have a FB and enjoy a lot. Aspen was also somewhat linear in the dry down and simplistic. There isn't a lot of development with it. In a generic sense, if you are looking for a smooth, warm masculine fragrance for cold weather but find something like Boss Bottled Absolu to be too strong, consider giving Aspen a try. It's performance is more reserved although it comes across as flatter, drier and somewhat dusty. For myself, since I like the shouting of Boss Bottled Absolu, I'll stick with it and pass on Aspen. UPDATE: Based on feedback to my review, I compared Aspen to a few more fragrances I have: Pasha Parfum, Ambre Sultan and Spicebomb Extreme. Aspen compares more to the DNA of these three than Boss Bottled Absolu. The closest similarity is actually with Spicebomb Extreme. I suspect that's due to the vanilla which figures more prominently in Aspen. In this comparison, Spicebomb Extreme comes across as dirtier, perhaps due to the cumin note, and also less sweet than Aspen. UPDATE (1/18/2025): I've completed testing all of the Guy Fox fragrances available in their two sample sets. One set is for the "Founder's Reserve" Collection while the other contains all their standard releases. Here's my ranking of all of them, with a few notes: First group, ranked in order of my preference. These are the top Guy Fox fumes in my book - full bottle worthy, with Nightcap being the best: 1. Nightcap 2. Fairway 3. Vince 4. Nelson Second group, no rank or order, just grouped together. Nice scents. I like them, but not enough to buy a FB: Aspen Primo Mikul Jefe Preston Third group, no rank or order, just grouped together. OK, somewhat generic. Mediocre performance for some: Palmer Tyler Marra JP Fourth group. Just plain awful. Was almost a scrubber for me: Riviera

I really admire the artistry and storytelling at play here and I think Guy Fox succeeded in capturing that dry, cool autumn air. It captures that feeling of sitting out at dusk among the patches of ochre leaves scattered on the ground. It still retains that familiar masculine cologne dna in between the much more appealing nuances of the vanilla, which make for an interesting contrast. However, violets can be a bit polarizing for my taste (sometimes I like it, sometime I can't stand it) and can be a bit too chalky and dusty. To me, the violet and oakmoss dominate the bulk of this fragrance's identity, making it hard for me to want to reach for it consistently, which is a shame because the vanilla in this is really pleasant. For the most part, I've been using this as a room spray and I've been really happy with how it fills a room; it's much less louder and allows for the full breadth of the fragrance to breathe. Hopefully, come Fall, I'll be able to enjoy this to its full splendor!

if they put this out as a candle, room scent or car freshener... i'll repurchase. sadly this does not work as a body fragrance for me. the autumn leaves note is quite unique, definitely smells like you dove head first into a pile of wet, freshly fallen leaves. but unfortunately as it starts to drydown... all i get is mostly the violets, and that is a note i don't particularly care for in a fragrance. i get the patchouli and oakmoss in the opening. mixed with the saffron and spices but it just gives off a holiday aisle at Walmart vibe, and i can't shake that sickly artificial sweetener violet note as it blends into the more earthy quantities of the fragrance. kikda smelled like you sprinkled stevia on some dirt and mashed violets into it the ground. had to scrub it. super bummed but this will be goin back. odd body fragrance for me, but would definitely made a great candle. i did get a "compliment" when i wore it to work... someone walked into my office and said it smelled like burning electrical wires.
