Palmer

This is an extraordinary fragrance. It reminds me of one of my favorite colognes, Pash de Cartier Parfum, but without the boozy note, and Palmer has a better woody accord. Longevity is about 9 hours on my skin. I think it can be worn all year long.

nature in a bottle. you get pine and bergamot right out the gate. then the cardamom, smoke and woodsy notes roll in. if you like Nelson and Primo... you'll probably love Palmer. kinda has the best of both, with a little somethin extra. i get the opening of Nelson but with added fruity/sweetness from the citrus and pine, and dries down to a less creamy more earthy/sweet Primo. very outdoor piney fresh, hint of spice, citrusy-sweet and super woody.

Guy Fox describes Palmer as a crisp mountain hike at sunrise. Believe it or not, that's pretty descriptive of the opening. In the background, there are conifers but very subdued. You won't end up smelling like a Christmas tree with Palmer. The conifer scent is dispersed, as if you were taking that hike in a pine forest on a cold and windy day. The wind disperses the pine scent so you get freshness with only a tiny touch of pine. That said, this very nice, unusual and fitting-the-description opening was quite mild for me. Perhaps I was nose blind? I had to get my nose close to my skin to really pick up the scent. As it dried down, Palmer did get stronger, but not with the opening. It began to morph into a sandalwood-y type of scent, very similar to the far dry down of Primo. Pretty average scent at this point. Not statement making at all, so it would work anywhere and is versatile. Regarding performance, the projection, as mentioned above, was pretty weak for the unique opening scent but became moderate as the dry down progressed and the woody scent appeared. Longevity was good, still a decent skin scent at the 8 to 9 hour mark. Overall though, not impressed. UPDATE (1/18/2025): I've completed testing all of the Guy Fox fragrances available in their two sample sets. One set is for the "Founder's Reserve" Collection while the other contains all their standard releases. Here's my ranking of all of them, with a few notes: First group, ranked in order of my preference. These are the top Guy Fox fumes in my book - full bottle worthy, with Nightcap being the best: 1. Nightcap 2. Fairway 3. Vince 4. Nelson Second group, no rank or order, just grouped together. Nice scents. I like them, but not enough to buy a FB: Aspen Primo Mikul Jefe Preston Third group, no rank or order, just grouped together. OK, somewhat generic. Mediocre performance for some: Palmer Tyler Marra JP Fourth group. Just plain awful. Was almost a scrubber for me: Riviera

The opening is not my cup of tea. I'm not a fan of sandalwood because, to my nose, it smells chalky and almost vegetal, and the sandalwood in Palmer is disproportionate. Where the bergamot really should create a citric opening, I'm instead smelling mostly sandalwood from start to finish. The solution would have been to increase the bergamot or maybe add a hint of lemon or mint accord, to cut through that mushy wet wood smell. I love the citrus-woody phase in the mid but it comes and goes quickly. Once the bergamot fades, Palmer smells like the inside of a new pair of sneakers. Believe it or not, that's not necessarily a bad thing; it's just not a walk in the woods smell that they are trying to portray.

I like Guy Fox but I agree with the review below - they're using their sandalwood accord too much and too potently. It was dominant in Nightcap, Primo, and now Palmer. They used it in Riviera too but not as strong. And it's almost all you can smell. Palmer needed a cedar wood or something less creamy instead.

I loved this, and then I got afflicted with the smelling-pickle-brine-in-sandalwood disease and stopped liking it as much. Smelled side-by-side with Santal 33 and Commodity Book, the "pickle" note is very subtle in comparison, so if you don't currently smell sandalwood as pickle, you won't in this perfume. But let me describe how it smelled to me Before I started detecting pickles! Very sap-forward white pine, reminiscent of my childhood memories of tree climbing. Unquestionably masculine, but a sweet, warm masculine. I immediately bought a full bottle.

Middle aged Georgia cowboy here: Just got in my fragrance sampler (10 samples in just 3 days across the country - impressive) and Palmer is the second one I'm trying. Really piney out of the decant then dries to a more even woodsy scent with a hint of sweet tea and very very faint honeysuckle/jasmine. Really impressed with the longevity. If I were to buy it I'd save this one for spring mornings and warm but not hot weather. For me 9/10. Of those in the sample I've tried so far: #1 - Palmer (9/10) #2 - Tyler (6/10)
