Tyler

Unlike Jefe, which I tried yesterday and is also an aquatic, Tyler contains noticeable fruit notes in addition to the aquatic accord. At first, there's the citrus and pineapple followed by the coconut. They don't stand out strongly but are distinguishable. By the time the coconut appears, the scent takes a very unisex direction. However, as it dries down further, the cedar becomes more prominent and the scent takes a definite masculine turn. The end result is fresh, pleasant and versatile, but overall quite generic - something I've smelled often before. Tyler's performance was the poorest of all the Guy Fox fragrances I've tested. It had diminished to a barely noticeable skin scent after about 5 hours. Projection was never strong at any point. UPDATE (1/18/2025): I've completed testing all of the Guy Fox fragrances available in their two sample sets. One set is for the "Founder's Reserve" Collection while the other contains all their standard releases. Here's my ranking of all of them, with a few notes: First group, ranked in order of my preference. These are the top Guy Fox fumes in my book - full bottle worthy, with Nightcap being the best: 1. Nightcap 2. Fairway 3. Vince 4. Nelson Second group, no rank or order, just grouped together. Nice scents. I like them, but not enough to buy a FB: Aspen Primo Mikul Jefe Preston Third group, no rank or order, just grouped together. OK, somewhat generic. Mediocre performance for some: Palmer Tyler Marra JP Fourth group. Just plain awful. Was almost a scrubber for me: Riviera

Tyler smells OK for a short time, but the performance is abysmal. I would consider it a soft, sweet, herbaceous fragrance, with a hint of cedar and musk in the background. It smells sweetest in the opening, for 5 or 10 minutes, then the other notes take over. There is little projection beyond the opening and the scent becomes faint rather quickly. There is barely a scent trail in the mid. It can be smelled up close (like giving a hug close), or walking directly past someone in high heat. After roughly one hour, maybe an hour and a half, the scent is all but gone entirely and upon smelling the skin up close, it smells mostly like witch hazel (maybe the sage?). You're not likely to offend anyone in an office setting with Tyler, but it's unlikely anyone will smell it at all.

You can definitely make out the leafy, citrusy associations as top notes to boot, then after some time the sage is prominent, but the coconut water and juniper are barely present. The base notes (cedar+patchouli) don’t contribute awfully to the interpretation of the scent profile, but I can’t help but notice the performance of this isn’t really up to par of what I’d want from a perfume. It becomes substantially toned down, not much longer after applying, and, at least at a top level, it’s a pretty generic freshie profile, as @Smirky puts it. If one is immersed in the genres of freshie colognes they sell in department stores this might be a step to branching out of that but this isn’t really in my suite of interests.

Sampling Guy Fox Tyler, a fresh, green, aquatic, sort of fruity blend with key notes of coastal sage, coconut water, and juniper, quite pleasant with a bit of sweetness and muskiness that gives it somewhat of an aquatic vibe, but mostly clean as opposed to marine in a funky way. It’s an agreeable fragrance for everyday, office, or gym wear, but I wouldn’t likely opt for it for something more formal. It performs pretty well, also. Tyler, like the rest of the line, is EDP concentration and is priced at $68 for 50ml, sold both through the house website and certain boutiques like Ministry of Scent, from which I bought a sample scent. 6 out of 10

I think this fragrance is fine, just not for me. I get a pretty overwhelming almost gourmand citrus note, like lemon meringue or key lime pie, with some of the musky woody notes underneath. I'm not a huge fan of gourmand scents, and this one is definitely too sweet for me, but it isn't objectively unpleasant. I think there are plenty of people who would like this scent, it just isn't for me.
