Woody Lavender

Habibi New York Woody Lavender EDP The listed notes in Woody Lavender are many and varied, including coffee, fruits, florals, tobacco and candied sugar. Frankly, I can't pick out many of these, but my overall impression of this cologne is that it starts out sweet and floral and dries down into a scent which is smoky and mysterious. It opens with a citrus and spice blast which is oh so pleasing to the nostrils. Just as one is ready to dive in, the accords begin to shift into a mixture of spices, rose and lavender. I would have been very happy if these had been the final accords, so rich and satisfying are they. However, this complex cologne hasn't reached its full maturity yet. After about 30 minutes, it dries down into an intriguing, smoky incense and faint oud mixture. The floral essence of the lavender remains as well. This one has strong sillage at the opening. My wife walked into the living room where I had sprayed it on my wrist just 3 minutes earlier and commented on how good the room smelled. It is very long lasting (8+ hours) though at the 4 hour point it is fairly close to the skin. Woody Lavender is a unisex cologne. Because of the floral notes, many women will no doubt love it. But it also has a darker, masculine vibe, and confident, adventurous men might be pleasantly surprised by this one as well.

This one is unusual to me, and I'm really not sure how I feel about it. Popular opinion would indicate that it's a very pleasant floral - and that aspect is undeniably present - but the end impression that I'm getting is one of (reasonably enjoyable) campfire smoke, but there's a certain, lingering, "more-ness" about it, as well. The best way I can attempt to capture the feeling I get is to say that this reminds me of the late-night summers, and fireside chats, I used to have with my mother, while growing up on a lake. The fragrances of the nearby woods, water, and flowers were lingering in the air alongside the patchouli that signified my mother's presence, and I was freshly showered after a hard day working in the sun, as we sipped wine around our little crackling firepit by the water. This myriad of light, fresh, and slightly aquatic scents hovered about, but they were undeniably the backdrop to the omnipresent scents of firewood and my mother's patchouli. I will admit, it's a very fond remembrance, and I'm certainly swimming in nostalgia as I experience it, but... I'm already prone enough to nostalgia and pointless retrojection as it is - I don't really know that I need to wear a memory around on my skin, so to speak. So, in the end, I'm going to give this one a 10/10 for composition, ditto for the scent memory powers it possesses, and something like a 6/10 for wearability, albeit on a highly personal level. That results in a 8.67/10, more or less - it's very, very good, and undoubtedly the right fragrance for someone (potentially my mother, now that I think about it), but unfortunately, that someone is not me.

I purchased this while looking for lavender based fragrances and am pleased with this blind buy. Attractive bottle that sets the tone for the contents within. I find it to be a sweet and very busy fragrance. My nose is not, yet, sensitive enough to pick out the many notes that comprise this fragrance. However, the lavender is present from the opening through the dry down. It projects well and I actually prefer the dry down when the fragrance has calmed down into a pleasant floral scent. Strongly recommend this fragrance but it is very sweet in the opening.
