Bespoke

This is a beautiful male green chypre that defies its note profile. In fact, its main characteristic is an un-noted artemesia/oak moss green bitterness that just hums sophistication, confidence and quiet power. It has more than a passing similarity to the critically acclaimed but discontinued Geoffrey Beene Bowling Green, though without the citrus slap and with a greater woody/vetiver accord. It is also similar to Ajmal Cento. I don't get tobacco here, and this plays very dry, so do not expect the synthetic vanilla-sweet Tobacco Vanille vibe. The amber is muted and only comes in after a few hours. The cypress is charming and warm, providing a lovely counterpart to the green notes. This is the kind of scent that a man's man would wear to go duck hunting, hiking or motorcycle riding. This is not mass appealing nor first-date worthy, but it could be a signature scent for a mature guy in a long-term marriage. This would also fit a work environment for a person who is comfortable in his skin, and wouldn't be a bad choice for more formal events. Age range probably begins around 30, and even then, this will appeal most to men who are comfortable with things like Bentley Intense, the Encre Noir line or even Paco Rabanne Pour Homme.

I know that fragrance is subjective, and I'm not throwing shade here, but I personally don't see anything even slightly shower-gel'ish or generic about this one. Those adjectives bring to mind things like Chrome, Voyage or Fierce. This one is actually a bit challenging, with the artemesia, touches of leather, vetiver and cypress - things not found in mall-store freshies. I think you need to be over 35 to really understand this, and to have a connection with nature, since this very much evokes a misty, mossy autumnal forest that you hike through with a leather backpack. Non Operational's comparison to Loewe Esencial (the edt, not the edp) captures the feeling of this, though they are different fragrances, both excellent.

Found this recently while in Spain. It seems to be on sale in all Primor stores . Excellent fragrance. I just sprayed a bit on my wrist and went to the beach and kept getting whiffs of it when the breeze blew in my direction. Went back and bought 2 of the gift sets. I have a huge collection of fragrances including niche and I rate this one very highly . I also sampled their other offering ‘essential’, this one is more generic in the fresh aquatic realm and is not as good as bespoke.

Most affordable Provenzanos fragnance. Weird that it is not popular.

Damn this is a good one (tested upstairs in Harrods, and even there it stood out). It opens up with the green aromatic component at the fore; very bright and with a sharp freshness from the cypress and coriander. Gradually as it dries, the boozy and tobacco characteristics do become more prominent, although it retains a woody/foresty tone throughout; somewhere between Loewe Essenzia and Bottega Veneta Pour Homme - it's nice to see a "green" fragrance for men made in the 2020's. I only got a spray on card, but will definitely look to try it on skin next. UPDATE: I couldn't find this anywhere to test again, so I bought it on sale at TKMaxx. I am wearing and enjoying it, but initially I had to rein in my enthusiasm just slightly slightly. On skin, the opening does indeed have a slightly misplaced 'shower gel' sweetness, as mentioned in the review above - perfectly pleasant but not really in keeping with the rugged green-ness of the fragrance. After that part passes though, it goes back to the lovely piney, clean Polo Green-like vibe. If you look on P*rfumo, people are talking about detecting ambroxan in this, so that might be the thing that's giving some people "generic shower gel" vibes, and others not. The coriander note in Bespoke is really interesting (it's dry coriander seed, not green cilantro herbs) and adds a slightly savoury, astringent cleanliness. Whilst some traditional "green" fragrances can feel too abrasive, I am happy that Hackett Bespoke is a modernised, more wearable version of this genre; palatable, but retaining that bracing, rugged old-school feel. Performance is average to low, but very good on clothes. UPDATE I sold this (wearing more of the actual 70's/80's greens now), but it has continued to haunt me - I will have to repurchase😑

What a beautiful find. Wasn’t expecting this coming from a brand who specializes in copying other designers. It pretty unique that can be worn all year around, just that longevity is to be desired upon.

It's a very very smoky/birchy Aventus. Good performance on my sleeve. Similar to Morning Chess Vilhelm Parfumerie which is also a very smoky Aventus.

I am not getting the notes listed : no leather, no tobacco, no rum..???. Tiny nuances of cypress, vetiver and cedar... a touch of citrus (?). That's about it. Drugstore quality. I actually find that Essential from Hackett has a leather note in it, but not this.

Based on carded sample. Green, woody, slightly sweet. Pleasant, shower gel-ish. 'Bespoke' - more like 'Absolu Generic'. Boots is selling 100ml for about £50, probably too much. 2/5
