This is a really good all natural scent. As someone who loves spending time outdoors, chiefly in forests of all types, I have been searching for realistic forest scent for quite some time now. While I am still searching for that elusive One, St. John's Cemetery really stands out among a sea of "woody" and "green" scents that I have tried that just smell like typical men's cologne mixed with a synthetic approximation of what green and wood is supposed to smell like. Kind of like purple Kool-Aid that is supposed to be grape. Anyway, I think this really does a great job of bringing across the smell of a northern hemisphere mixed forest and the realistic smells you would encounter in one. The notes listed are more or less all present to my nose (though I would have trouble picking them out without the list in front of me). The opening brings a obvious waft of lemon/citrus followed by rosemary/spice while having a woody/mossy background that is evident throughout. It quickly dries down to be very well balanced, and in my opinion, the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. I imagine being at the edge of where a mixed hardwood/softwood forest meet with a wildflower meadow. A gentle breeze rustles up the scents, and there is a slight dampness from the air because it has rained the day before. Not really a petrichor scent, but maybe that is the moss coming through. I strongly agree with Jack Hunter, this has strong overcast vibe, though I personally would stop short of saying it is gothic due to the fresh vibrance of the natural ingredients. This is an old forest with soul, balanced with fresh, new growth.

This scent is called St Johns Cemetery and it is a artistic expression of the smells of that area. For those who have no idea about this scent or the creators let me give you some information before I describe the scent. Haeckels has a shop in the lovely Margate area in the UK that sells products with all natural ingredients. They have a range of Edp fragrances that are based on areas around their location with the ingredients sourced from the area as well. They even have a lovely video of each of the areas the scents were inspired by so you can wear the scent and check out the video at the same time. Now imagine it's a dark overcast gray day and your mood is somber as your entering a graveyard. The first thing that hits you is pine mixed in with the smell of earthy leaves and moss. This is followed by dark musk and a hint of rosemary. So far the fragrance captures a serious gothic tone but it is quite a beautiful scent, it has the damp earthy piney green smell that you could match to a walk through a cemetery. Now after about forty minutes a strong mossy pine mixed in with rosemary takes over and it is very beautiful and natural smelling. The projection is a tad below average but it has a distinct presence, something people close to you will not fail to pick up. I have to say I like this nearly as much as their other scent called Pegwell Bay but that one is quite special and long lasting. Anyone who likes Eucris by Trumper would love this one. All in all a very nice musky, mossy dark piney quality fragrance.

An enjoyable scent, although at times it doesn't really feel like a perfume, more of a nice smell. The opening is excellent: sharp, slightly bitter, woodsy, spicy; however, when the dry down comes, I can almost only detect pine, which is lovely, but I prefer that to be a gentle hum in the background, rather than the primary note. Not as good as pegwell, but in the runnings for second place along with Dreamland and reculver. Overall: 8/10.

I smelt this the other day when I was browsing around in the Conran shop and then I went back and sprayed some on my wrist, as it started to mellow I I noticed a real striking similarity to Creed Aventis ...some hours later, in the drydown it was still quite similar, but it didn't have that deep magic and that captivating quality that Aventis has, That continuous freshness . but still a very good scent performance wise, good projection and excellent longevity... I just fished out the top that I was wearing on the day that I sprayed it on and it still going strong, and it's dried down to a beautiful deep chyre, with traces of something like Oud?? I'm not sure ... quite masculine, but I love that. It's bolder and ballsier and deeper than aventus .. whereas Aventis is fresher, softer and just magical!!
