Halston Woman

I didn't expect to like this as much as I do! It's a beautiful smooth patchouli fragrance that has nothing to do with the old Halston Classic. Clean, polished patch plays the star role in this composition, but there is also a lot of amber that warms up the scent. With the additions of fresh rose, juicy black currant and iris powder it feels multidimensional. In my opinion this is not as dark and dry as scents like Prada Amber or Jessica Simpson Fancy Nights. They are in the same family, but Halston is creamier and lighter due to the fruity and floral notes. It's heavier than Coco Noir though, I'd say it's somewhere in the middle between these different interpretations of patchouli. It's not a groundbreaking fragrance, but a well-known and loved note profile done very well. I was surprised to see that rose has only a few votes in the notes list, to me it's the third most noticeable note after patchouli and amber, easy to single out even before looking at the list. Marigold is a note that makes me wary, it often smells funky and dirty to my nose. Luckily I can only smell it for a short moment in the opening here, so there was no need to worry about it. I think if you like easy to wear patchoulis you can't really go wrong with this. Halston Woman was once very affordable but starts to get harder to find and more expensive. I think they unfortunately discontinued the newer Halston perfumes from the 2000s and only keep the old version from the 70s around, which is not my thing at all. If I didn't already have many great patchouli fragrances, I might have bought a bottle just now.

Halston Woman is a GORGEOUS amber floral. Enduring, addictive, completely satisying. It’s now at the top of my most-loved scents. Such a great joy when we find our personal gems! I only discovered it recently and immediately went on a mission to stock up since it is discontinued. I have both EDT and EDP, love them both. The balance in Woman is most notable. It’s refined and elegant, with a lightness that is somewhat spiritual for me, especially the EDT, as you would expect. Nothing outweighs or interferes with anything else so that it is very easy to wear as it just becomes part of me. I get exceptional longevity with three sprays. Judging from compliments I receive, it projects well. The EDP is the sweeter of the two, still beautifully balanced, with emphasized base notes, and it leaves more of a trail. Heavenly!

This.....is a perfume. Halston woman opened with a strong, spicy amber blast which scared me at first. I thought "Oh dear, this is going to choke me!" But, it quickly settled down into a warm floral amber which hugged my skin nicely. HW had the feeling of a classic perfume in the opening. The ones that say "I'm a woman, not a girl." However, when it settled, it became more sexy and soft. This perfume had great staying power. The soft woods and florals came through a bit later and, with the spicy amber, just hugged my skin for the whole day. Longevity and silage were great. Just one spray did the job for me. It's 86 degrees today (maybe not the wisest choice). Perhaps I'd need more sprays in winter. Now on to her sister, Halston Woman Amber!

I bought a huge bottle of this for $9.99 at Ross and it was a successful blind buy. I love this stuff. It starts with a strong and nice Patchouli note and fades down to a warm and powdery scent that like other reviewers mentioned, reminds me of bananas or banana flavored candy. Thankfully, on my skin this perfume didn't take any bad turns towards dusty but it is quite powdery, I happen to like that but it might turn some people off. This is probably better for cold weather as it could become cloying in the heat. I am going to stay on the lookout for more dirt cheap bottles of this and stock up while I can!

Acidic bergamot, earthy marigold, and sweet black currant form the opening. This opening overlays the next stage of beautiful jasmine and rose floral notes. These floral notes then float on a base of amber, with touches of sandalwood and patchouli. Each stage overlapping the next. Powdery orris makes for a beautiful drydown. This is gorgeous and womanly. Very impressive for 2009. I love this!
