Hanae Mori Butterfly 20th Anniversary Eau de Parfum

I am going through a grieving process now this seems to have been discontinued. Been a bit obsessed with this since I was a teenager - I couldn't afford a bottle but slunk into Sephora to sample their tester pretty much every weekend.... I have always hated most sweet perfumes but this one is the exception. Somehow it manages to be both youthful and grown up. Completely unique yet not at all weird. It's what I wear when I want to feel a little bit fancy and dressed up, although it works fine as an everyday scent.

This review is of the anniversary edition (beautiful pink bottle in pink coffret). I get very little berry notes, definitely no strawberries. Which I’m glad because scents that claim to have strawberry notes, tend to smell generic and bathroom deodorizerish to me. This scent leans more on the gourmand side. I don’t get the lychee note as I did in the Parfum (no longer made). Ylang ylang is well blended with woodsy notes. It’s a keeper. Bottle itself is lovely.

This is not a new fragrance, it is same fragrance inside a limited edition bottle to celebrate the 20th anniversary. I love the bottle but the price is ridiculous at $175. It should just be a little higher than the normal price for the artwork of the bottle but not that much.

Ohh I get it. the pink anniversary is a parfum and the regular hanae mori is the toilette!

The original hanae mori is labeled as butterfly now. Same scent

Screechy candy GURLY almost euphoric opening then dries down to BENZOINE. A bit gag inducing. Can be addictive.

How did I get this for so inexpensive on Ebay? I only spent $25 for a 3.4 oz EDP! And it smells and looks legit. I am so confused, don’t understand how it’s possible. I know this is the same Hanae fragrance I used to spray on myself almost daily when I still lived in NYC- it doesn’t smell fake! Anyway I love it. A French reviewer said she loved the “tête de poupée” smell wafting from a spritz of this- and she’s so right. Curious about the other butterfly perfumes she has- there is a “Blue Butterfly 🦋 “ apparently with patchouli that is only $18.50! Might have to try it too. A few days later: I just had an insight about this scent and Ms. Hanae’s Japaneseness.. my notion is this: that the Japanese are the absolute best at making the absolute best out of a genre- i.e. in alternative rock (harkening back a few years) Shonen Knife did some really rockin girl rock and amped up thecamp.. anyway so I suppose the genre here is gourmand, nearly edible vanilla like scents in perfumery; well Hanae imo has made the best, most over-the-top delicious smelling perfume! It’s totally a comfort scent for me as well. What I don’t understand is the differentiations in her product line. For example my bottle says “Butterrfly” but it’s not the bottle pictured above. It’s the same bottle as the Hanae by Hanae Mori bottle, and is also the same scent. I haven’t yet tried the “Blue Butterfly “ nor the Purple, and I’m excited to try Magical Moon of which a sample is headed my way. 3rd update: I guess what I have is “Butterfly”- EDT not EDP but the sillage is gigantic. This smells identical to the older release that simply said “Hane Mori”, I believe. There is, I just found out, a NEW “Hanae” by HM lol might have to try it..

I recently purchased Hanae Mori(Pink Butterflies). Although I have the original, I thought I was purchasing a different scent seeing as the packaging symbol has multiple pink butterflies opposed to the original which has green butterflies. Both scents are the same as there is NO difference. I love the fragrance and I did not need another bottle of the same fragrance which is why I am a little disappointed. Hanae Mori last forever. A little goes a very long way. Yes, it can become addicting.

I just bought the standard EDP Butterfly, regular bottle, looks like the regular Hanae Mori Hanae Mori, you couldn't tell the difference from the bottle. This scent is muskier, it's sexier, deeper, softer. It's the classic Hanae Mori scent, but less "bright." I got this through groupon for $34.00 for a 3.4 oz. I wear it every day. Recent compliment: "That scent lingers in my head."

There seems to be no review for standard Butterfly. Only anniversary/limited edition. Would love to know more about the standard EDP. The EDT is lovely!

I completely agree with you cosmicscents - it's a lovely bottle, but certainly not worth an exorbitant price for only the bottle
