Paisley Sky

Got this as a bonus sample in my first package of Happyland fragrance samples. Gave it a try expecting nothing, OMG it is amazing. And it’s floral but fresh, masculine enough for an old man like me to wear, yet I can see where it’s got a unisex appeal. From the note description I thought I can’t wear this, but I really can. I’m surprised how much I enjoy this considering how I usually prefer darker or woody fragrances with vetiver, vanilla, tobacco, spice, woods. It evokes a fresh outdoor laundry drying in the country summer, with just a bit more floral sweetness. I agree with everyone else about the excellent blending. There are no “wolf notes” in this fragrance. I really don’t pick up a strong oud or nutmeg at all (thank goodness). Again, I’m surprised at how much I like this. Paisley Sky is definitely full bottle worthy. I can see wearing it in all seasons, but with the possible exception of late fall, early winter. But of course that might be the exact best time to wear it to bring back summer images.

Projection and longevity is insane This fragrance is hard to describe but is simply amazing. To me it smells like a man just walked into a cotton candy shop and they are selling pink cotton candy with a sprinkle of oud or something patchouli or something 10/10 I perfer paisley dream more only because it takes away the “funk”~ish this fragrance has and but its very feminine. Longevity and projection is also INSANITY

Idk how someone could vote no longevity or projection.. that's insane to me.. everything I've tried of happyland lasts a long time especially this one.. 10 hours later and a shower I can still smell it on my skin.. this is one of my favorites fragrances, it's does lean feminine but god it's gorgeous and makes me say wow Everytime I put it on.. if you like unique fragrances happyland is for you.

This fragrance is hard to describe someone like me with an undeveloped nose. The fragrance is certainly powdery and floral, but these accords are balanced by oriental spice and woods. It leans masculine in the dry-down and has great performance. Unique but seemingly mass appealing. Easily worth the purchase of a full bottle.

I have worn this many times in the daytime and at night. It is an amazing scent with a feel good overall fragrance moderate to long lasting, a heady floral mix with patchouli heaviness, it makes me want to stop whatever I am doing and lose myself in music or daydreams. So captivating I got 2 more bottles to not ever run out!

It really does smell like Oud for Greatness or maybe Qaa'ed. Just a more floral version. I was kind of let down, honestly, from all of the hype. But if you've never smelled or worn either of the above, then this might just blow your mind. It's good, oh yes. But I would not call it very original.

I can't get enough of this fragrance.. it puts a smile on my face. I already commented about this fragrances but it's that good. It's my favorite from e.j... it definitely leans feminine but it works on me and gf loves it. I get a good 10 hrs out of this fragrance and gets better with time.

This fragrance makes me happy. If I pass from COVID 19 (not sick, but at high risk and worried), please know that this fragrance made me happy. I just sprayed about 50 fragrances, and tried to choose another, but this one cheers me up beyond belief. COVID is no joke. Praying for everyone.

Reminds me of Mancera Instant Crush and BR540 type of vibe. I think I'm digging Paisley more than both! I don't go more than two sprays, one on the front of the neck, and one on the back. The atomizer is a FIRE HOSE!!!

It smells like Br540 and Oud for Greatness but makes both more mass appealing. Also it smells more masculine than Br540 but this is still a unisex fragance.

Reminds me of creed original Santel or Mancera black gold in the opening just the open not the dry down I’m guessing bc of the lavender note

I do not know what I am smelling right now but I love it and it never leaves my skin/clothes. 2 sprays and you're good.

Paisley Sky is a superb blend with stellar longevity. I'm enjoying my 5ml sample of this unisex/leaning-masculine beauty very much, especially because the cedar & myrrh notes are so prominent to my nose. Oddly enough, Paisley Sky reminds me of Hanae Mori (butterfly bottles) with a dose of patchouli, so much so that I believe loving even one of those iterations, (edt, edp, parfum) would make Paisley Sky a safe blind buy. (Remember: 25% discount with code STAYSAFE25) *********************** Edit: I don't usually check back for reactions to my reviews but I am very much dedicated to supporting independent perfumers (particularly in our current quarantined world) so in this case, I did. I discovered a bouquet of balloons for my positive review of Paisley Sky had disappeared! From an ego perspective I really could not give a flying eff/F, but... E.J. Wells is a genius! He is a stellar nose/creator. That does not, as I believe he would agree, mean that everything he creates will appeal to everybody! Having purchased samples of the entire Happyland line (prior to the release of Shadowland), I feel that my financial commitment gives me a particular credibility when I post a review. The majority of Happyland fragrances are 100% masculine in their appeal and that's ok, that's great! That's wonderful! I own and frequently wear many fragrances not only marketed to men but which lean very traditionally masculine because all I ever want to experience is smelling wonderful. Many Happyland fragrances lean toward scent notes traditionally associated with a masculine marketing appeal - OK. Please, folks... if what you sniff is something that excites your senses and smells WONDERFUL, do set aside and ignore any notions of what is masculine/feminine and WEAR WHAT YOU LIKE! Buy what you like! When considering what we like and what appeals to us politics should have ZERO influence.

Paisley Sky is one of the more recent releases from late 2019 and one of the most innovative, a sort of spicy floral oud, fairly well balanced among those three ideas, with a full note listing of oud, ylang ylang, nutmeg, lavender, patchouli, myrrh, and musk. There’s a slight earthy quality to it, but it’s not really animalic, so funky oud avoiders need not be concerned with this entry. It’s provocative in a way that most releases in the house are not, as well. Florals and oud together always stand out to me in a significant way, perhaps with the except of the all-too-familiar rose/oud combination. Here, the ylang ylang especially feels like it’s used heavily, brightening and freshening the blend in concert with the lavender, providing a sort of veil to what is largely a dark, dense, pungent blend of oud, patchouli, nutmeg, myrrh, and musk, though it’s not especially resinous or musky to me, those last two notes helping blend everything together, in my estimation. It feels more like a cold weather fragrance to me due to its fire, its boldness, though I assume someone could pull this off on a summer evening to make a statement, as sometimes we all—or at least I—do. Paisley Sky is more or less what I look for out of a fragrance like Frederic Malle Carnal Flower in that it gives me florals but does not overwhelm me with their sharpness. The pricing is slightly higher than most of the earlier releases, at $59 for 50ml / $42 for 30ml, and I believe this this case due to the cost of ingredients like the oud itself. Performance is very strong, as is the hallmark of this brand’s releases, all in extrait concentration, I believe, and a testament to their value. While Paisley Sky is not among my very favorites from the line, it might be among the most emblematic of perfumer/owner E.J. Wells’ creativity. 7 out of 10

A very floral forward fragrance that also gives a sweet almond accord. All this is due to the massive amount of heliotrope in the top. As it dries down I get a good bit of powdery vanilla-like smell. This is probably EJ's most feminine release yet, but I really enjoy it. This also has a waxy or plastic smell going on, but it is blended very well. Performance is good like everything from this house. I get 8+ hours easy. A really nice and unique fragrance for my nose, never smelled anything like it. I also have not smelled the Initio offerings this is inspired by. EJ does great stuff, get some samples and have fun exploring. Not sure this is bottle worthy for me, but a really nice unisex scent that smells very unique. Overall - 7/10 EDIT: This one gets better every time you wear it, I purchased a 30ml of this. It is alluring and very interesting. Incredibly wearable oud that will be sure to put a smile on your face!

Floral patchouli, with a faint undertone of stank, plus a sugary sweet fruity top. A sharp herbal lavender makes for a piercing opening. The banana-ey ylang-ylang forms the nucleus of this scent, orbited by dark woody patchouli and oud with undertones of smoky myrrh. Moderate projection for 2-3hr settles into an all-day soft scent bubble, longevity 10-12hr. Compared to its sister scent, Paisley Dreams which is not on Fragrantica and Happyland's only female-marketed fragrance, it's less sweet but the two are still clearly linked through their dominant ylang + myrrh notes. Dreams takes the dark woody accord and replaces it with sticky-sweet honey. Both have a rather harsh, synthetic opening that settles down after ~30min.

Overall, I like the scent. Something about alot of the fragrances from this house gives me a slightly immature vibe, as though it is mixed by someone who has a real intuition for unique and complementary scents, but hasn't quite mastered the craft. I hope I don't come off as rude, because I do really enjoy alot of the Happyland perfumes that I've tried and I know alot of people really love the house. If that's you, great, you'll probably love Paisley Sky. It is unique and the smell is perfectly unisex. However, for me personally, I think that all of the ingredients are there, the longevity and sillage is good, etc., but it is missing that certain something that makes the whole more than its component parts.

soft and pretty, almost vanillic and ambery with lots of saffron, some heliotrope, nutmeg, patchouli and sweetness without being a spicy scent, a little woody, a little salty but soft and sweet like a dream I liked this when I put it on. Just like. But wow then through time did it bloom and develop. By later that day and the next day, I loved it.

Another resinous amber concoction from this house. Amber is something Happyland does right. It doesn’t smell particularly expensive, or luxurious. But it smells good. Not too far off from Se7en, not as good; the incense is replaced by myrrh and purple florals. Just shy of a 😎. Doesn’t seem particularly wearable. Challenging.

I particularly dislike Oud for Greatness, and I am not in the team finding it similar to BR540. This has creaminess from heliotrope that ground down something unpleasant, bitterness from Oud for Greatness. That being said, it is a more pleasant Oud for Greatness - right in the middle of Paisley Dream and Oud for Greatness.

Combo of br540 and oud for greatness, with its own twist. Very good. Somewhat linear, and performance is good not great. 7.5 rating

Initio’s Psychedelic Love meets MFK BR 540. Interesting and unique fragrance. Definitely worth checking out.

Idk about this house. The perfumer is very kind and responsive, you can’t beat his prices with a stick, and his customer service is excellent. HOWEVER, he insists this isn’t a clone house, and I just don’t know if I believe that. He’s obviously mixing mass produced, ready made fragrance oils. In the Happyland facebook group, I’ve regularly seen people posting about “custom” products he made for them by “tweaking” (his words) his Happyland blends, and it seems like he’s able to quickly and inexpensively accommodate requests such as “I’d like this scent, except with a little more ylang and a little less patchouli.” With this observation in mind, I’m almost positive this is a clone of Psychedelic Love, and a pretty good one. It’s PROFOUNDLY strong and the liquid is very oily on the skin. I’ve sampled about 7-8 from this line, and Paisley Sky is one of the only ones I’m not almost anosmic to. The customer base skews largely male, and many of these guys demand “beast mode” performance, so needless to say, the ambrox is INTENSE with this house. Edit 12/15/23 I’ve been wearing Psychedelic Love lately now that it’s cold out, and trying this again I’ve changed my mind. As far as I know the jury is still out on whether this house does clones, as others have mentioned, this is like a spot on 100% mix of Psychedelic Love and Oud for Greatness.

This house is outstanding! Another winner! For me, a female in snow/winter-- this is all sweet myrrh/incense/oud/sandalwood and that's perfect. For lovers of Memoir Woman and L'Agent. It's so well blended. Superior sillage has me smiling with just one spray to my hand. It's sweet/woody myrrh, not smoky. I know patch is around, but this is sweet and not earthy or dirty. It mellows without changing drastically. Reminds me quite a bit of Valentino Donna Noir Absolu. I love Happyland because everything is simple, quality, long lasting, wonderful projection, and uncomplicated. Anything from this house has insane power. Skin wear is about 8+ hours of noticeable scent, lasts for days on clothing.

I have always wanted to blind buy BR540 (never even sniffed it!), but instead I blind bought Mancera Instant Crush. And something about Instant Crush smelled VERY familiar. It's THIS- Paisley Sky. Except Paisley Sky has the incense, which Instant Crush does not. And PS (all of Happyland) has the most nuclear potency/sillage. Its a win. Try this! (I had to say something given the review below mine)

Reminds me of BR 540 on steroids and much more complex and way cheaper. Prefer it over 540 all day.

I get Lataffa Qaaed without the smoke. I like paisley sky much more.
