Heaven Sent

I have it :) Scored a pricey vintage online a while back, aqua cap and all, but the smell is a bit different from what I remember wearing way back in the 80s... I had to check and re-check if this was Helena Rubinstein/MEM, or the stinky Dana version. It is HR. Well, it is a vintage so it is possible it might have gone weird - not entirely "bad" but, rather, "weird", like there was a bit of an evaporation going on over the years (although my bottle was about 80 percent full upon purchase). It is very powdery and a little sweet. Looking at the notes, that sounds about right but, still, there is something missing from the original HR Heaven Sent I used to have. The original smelled "fresher", almost invigorating whereas the one I have now smells powdery, flowery and very dusty, a very prominent oak moss and musk... Not sure what to make of this. Do you think my vintage bottle is now just too vintage to be used?

One of my go-toes for wearing around the house or to other unfussy occasions. Makes me feel cool, calm, & collected. While it is definitely powdery, I don’t experience this one as a straight baby powder scent in the way some reviewers seem to. Firstly, the powder has a musky animalic edge and is not overly sweet on my skin. The floral notes are not hugely present. Rather, the vegetal, slightly piquant oakmoss, amyris, vetiver, and orange dominate on my skin. The result is more “dryad” then “baby” on me. For context my bottle is edp in fluted glass with blue Bakelite cap. I’m guessing early 60s? In short: earthy, understated, unisex

My Nana used this when I was a small child, and I loved the smell, many years later it was purchased for me by an Aunt, (Liberty Version I think), I remember it mentioned Helena Rubinstein on the reverse label and yes I still loved it, I then tried to replace it, and found some that reported to be Heaven Sent and while it had similarities something was certainly missing and not one I remembered, I compared the reverse labels and you guessed it not the same!! Wish they still made this ORIGINAL Perfume its Heavenly, Anyone know of any similar (I have DANA Heaven Sent on order but not holding much hope)

This fragrance is so beautiful. I was blessed to find a .5 oz at my local thrift shop for only $1, and I'm in love with it! The name is appropriate, it's very ethereal and clean. Good sillage, but not overpowering. Can definitely picture classy ladies wearing this to church. Smells very vintage but not granny. A wonderful scent.

So amazing. Yes this is powder, but with a slight vanilla element (perhaps the sandalwood and benzoin). Not a chalky powder. And there’s an animalic element as well that makes this sexy to me and cozy. Doesn’t smell like it but brings to mind Bal a Versailles. So pretty.

OMG! I remember this one! I wore it a few times in high school- my friend had a bottle and she shared with me. I just loved it! I was soft, warm, and almost like earthy potatoes. Those were the woody notes we were smelling. It was great.

My first perfume. I loved running across our busy main road to the K-Mart just so i could spray this on me. I can almost smell it just by thinking of my childhood. Hope I can find it again.

Heaven Scent was a wonderful perfume I wore back in the 70's. It smelled like I would imagine heaven would smell! I remember the neroli in it, which I love. A great classic to grow up on.

I really quite like this! This is probably the first vintage that I really like! I like Tabu, but I really like this. It does have that strong, weird vintage vibe at first, but nothing like aldehydes or anything too sharp or bad. The opening of Tabu and my other vintages are so much harsher than Heaven Sent. Theres definitely a zing at first, probably the bergamot, lemon, and orange, but then it settles down and it's powdery honey cashmere. Maybe thats the benzoin or amyris, I'm not familiar with those notes. For reference, I have a fluted bottle with a gold cap and a light blue sticker at the bottom with two cupids and Heaven Sent in white lettering. It’s a splash. I definitely will be buying more, but may try Dana's first to see which I will prefer! I think the name suits this, but couldn't imagine myself or my daughter's wearing this as young girls. I see this more for 21+! It's a cozy, comforting scent that may turn into a love for me! It does seem to be Heaven Sent! Maybe a perfume Memorial for my mom and grandmas who passed away! A hug from the matriarchs in my family! I wear these vintages thinking that maybe at one time they wore one! Edit: I decided after sampling Houbagant Chantilly, these two are very similar, but I prefer Heaven Sent. I think it’s less sharp and less discordant than Chantilly. This is a little more smooth and isn’t as strong as Chantilly. My goal is to eventually purchase the other 2 versions of Heaven Sent and Chantilly and compare all 4! Fun times!

I own both the current version of Heaven Sent by Dana, and the Helena Rubinstein version, and I can say that there is a similarity between the two, but they are predictably not the same. The Helena Rubenstein version is the clear winner for me, although I do like both. My Rubenstein bottle is quite old, a ribbed splash bottle fluted at both ends, with a blue bakelite cap. The strength is EDT. I am guessing it is pre 1963 as there is no zip code on the label. My Rubenstein version opens with a bouquet of spicy flowers, with a definite vintage feeling. At this point, it is the most different from the Dana version. The complexity of the opening fades as it settles into the warm, baby powder scent this is known for. The drydown is quite similar to the Dana version, with musk, patchouli and I’m convinced there is a bit of civet. I like to wear this with a light touch, even though it is a soft scent. There is too much powder and animalic notes in the drydown to use a heavy hand, but lightly applied, it is very much a comfort scent.

Review for vontage EDT, early 60s based on the bottle, and lack of zip code. HS opens with enough sharp woods to be almost aldehydic to my nose. I quickly settles into warm, beautiful oakmoss, a subtle carnation, vanillic benzoin, and soft LoV. For those who don't like the modern synthetic oakmoss, please note that the real oakmoss note is not at all like the synthetics. It is soft, warm, and deep, green, never brassy. In the dry down, sweet, slightly spicy ylang ylang makes an appearance, lemony amyris, and a touch of mint. I don't get any fruit or rose. Powdery soft, ever so slightly sweet, warm as a down filled comforter, HS is a beautiful, gentle scent. I do find it a touch too powdery for everyday wear, but on those days when I feel like I could use a little gentleness, a little more patience, HS is always there to settle me down.

I have a vintage bottle from the mid-late 1960s, the one with ribbed swirls and a blue plastc cap. It's eau de parfum, .5 oz bottle. The smell opens light citrus and floral then drys down to soft, powdery, very slightly spicey. i didnt wear it when younger but am in love with this scent. It is beautiful yet comforting at the same time. Nothing smells like it. My signature frag is vintage Chanel 22 and vintage Lanvin Arpege but I have great affection for this little gem. Which by the way, ain,t so cheap on ebay for what was once a drugstore cheapie.

I managed to obtain a vintage bottle of this and I couldn't wait to try it as I used to have it in the nineties and remember how sweet and powdery it was! When I sniffed the nozzle it was deliciously sweet, however, I don't know if it's due to age but since spraying it on, there's an unpleasant sharpness in the mix which doesn't seem to be going away. Aside from that, it's gorgeous. It smells just like Coty L'aimant, but heaven sent is honestly not as good! So if you want a substitute for this, I highly suggest that!

I remember this one when I was a teenager and liked it, so I got a bottle of vintage super pure perfume. It smells just like baby powder. It reminds me so much of what my son smelled like after changing his diaper. Also I've smelled toilet paper with this scent. Very disappointed, I realize that it probably is so old that this is all that is left. Perhaps it will smell different during the warmer months........

Way back in 1971 when I went to visit my sister and brother-in-law, I noticed "Heaven Sent" by Helena Rubinstein sitting on a lace dresser scarf on their dresser. It had a beautiful aqua colored cap with gold angels and writing on it...a very pretty design. Curious like I was as a 12 year old girl, I snuck a few sprays and...the fragrance WAS heavenly! Such a gorgeous perfume; soft, powdery, gentle, and soothing. There is no other out there like the original Heaven Sent, nor will there ever be...this is a truly beautiful fragrance. About 2 years ago I decided to try and wear this fragrance, remembering how lovely it was. During my search on-line, I realized that the vintage version made by Helena Rubenstein was no longer available (unless you buy it on e-bay and spend a fortune), and the reviews of the new version were far from favorable. I'm so disappointed that they've reformulated it, because once I tested the new stuff at a Perfume Unlimited store, I found that it does not hold a candle to the vintage version! Is it me, or are there very few vintage perfumes anymore that contain the original formulation??? My message to all of the companies out there that have messed up our once lovely vintage perfumes...either keep the original formulation or stop making these cheap immitations altogether!!!! Peace.

Heaven Sent - One of the top 2 fragrances that I wore when I first began this passion that I have with fragrances! I love this stuff -- wore it for several years along side Ciara - by Revlon. Discovering this again is like finding the key to my music box with the little ballerina that twirls around. This brings me back to that time in my life when I was still a girl - wishing to be more like my mother. I truly loved Heaven Sent! What an awesome fragrance... and also - what an important time in a young woman's life! There should be more fragrances like this that bridge the gap between that of a young girl - and becoming a young woman. I just have been loving Prima - by Avon lately. This fragrance does this girl to woman dance, very well. it has enough playfulness to be girly - but enough sophistication to be womanly. What a great time in a young girl's life! This is something to be celebrated! Nothing celebrates this passage better than that of a first fragrance!

This was also my very first perfume and my sister and I always wore it. My Dad hated to take us anywhere in the car when we wore it because we both used way too much. This was in the 60s, so it was the original formula. I have tried the new version and although I can see the similarity, it does not compare to the Helena Rubinstein version. I wish they would go back to the original formulas. Most perfumes today all smell the same to me - either too fruity or too much like food.

I had this scent given to me by my neighbour (old European lady) when I was 19/20. I loved it and wore it every day. Later on after I stopped working for my boss (he was transferred to another branch), I found out that my boss must have loved it too. As that is the only thing I can attribute his proposal to me (I had bad acne and was extremely shy).

ah, heaven sent! what a fragrance, wore it to my prom almost 50 years ago. I have acquired quite a collection from ebay and only the Helena Rubenstein version, in my opinion is worth having. I love it, the older colognes and perfumes were crafted much more carefully and with much better, stable products then.
