Type D

Why is this categorized as "Oriental Vanilla" while The Different Company Jasmin de Nuit is "Floral"? As oriental Type D falls short - but it is a gorgeous floral; natural smelling, edgy and spicy jasmine with dirty edges, a definite winner compared to JdN. Contemporary and unisex, with a nod to great perfume traditions and nice notion to Damaskus, the city of jasmin. Definitely one of my favorite jasmine fragrances, on par with ELdO:s wonderful Jasmin et Cigarette - definitely being different enough, justifying owning the both :). A warm and interesting winter jasmine. Edit. I have to say, that that I love Jasmin the Nuit as well after all. She's the pretty one, this is the interesting one - both very lovable!

Type D (to signify Damascus, the city of inspiration behind the scent). Love at first sniff (at Copenhagen's Danish Design Centre) as it offers a classic composition with some surprising twists; a fresh edge accompanies the top notes, the aroma never feels overly heavy or dark and I find it incredibly easy to wear, even in warm weather. Great longevity though the sillage seems a bit subtle after an hour or two. Also tried Type C (named after Copenhagen) but its simplicity and quiet nature paled in comparison.

I like this but I don't love it. It smells remarkably similar to YSL Nu EDT on my skin, although Nu EDT is more intense and interesting. The spices in Type D are a little cold for my preferences, and I swear I can smell a little cardamom, although it does warm up slightly in the base notes where I can detect some gingerbread. As a lover of warm, balmy fragrances, I wouldn't agree at all that Type D is "balmy", as fragrantica has it tagged here, but maybe my opinion will change when I test this in cooler weather. Overall, Type D feels a little distant and vapid, which disappoints me since, looking at the notes and fragrance description, I thought for sure I would love it.

Notes: bergamot, pink pepper, jasmine, orange flower, ginger bread, cinnamon, styrax, sandalwood, tonka bean, vanilla. Damascus should be an oriental but it's weak and not particularly interesting. Well, I get the spices I get the jasmine and I get also the ginger bread....in the drydown a slight boozy vibe makes its appearance strongly recalling of a certain liqueur I can't put my fingers on...Overall Damascus is neither overly sweet nor heavy but nowhere close getting as interesting as this type of fragrances can get. Rating: 4/10
