Mr. H

Mr. H epitomises the idea of a strong, confident man who is also stinking rich. This scent is dry, woody and earthy yet maintains a freshness about it, almost slightly fougere in its qualities. Obviously the price cannot be justified, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that this is one special perfume. This is a patchouli scent all in all, probably the best patchouli I’ve ever had the pleasure of smelling. It’s rich and earthy, dark and damp, highlighting all the natural brilliance of this incredible material - it feels like the plant is right there in front of you. Patchouli is technically a part of the mint family, and you definitely get that here - it’s very sharp and attention grabbing, with that tangy freshness that you would expect from a normal mint, yet much drier and earthier. I believe it’s that sharp tang that gives the scent a slightly fougere feel, alongside the beautiful aromatic green twang of pine needles. I always loved the smell of Christmas trees growing up and this takes me right back. A dry tobacco in the base helps elevate the masculinity and smooth everything out, but the patchouli and pine needles are the stars here. For such a simplistic note breakdown it might not look like much on paper, but the level of quality and depth is as astounding - as to be expected from Henry Jacques. I used the last drops of my sample to write this review, likely to never have it on my skin again after today. I will always remember this beautiful scent however, but could never justify spending a whopping £6.5k on it.

I have always been intrigued by the use of patcholi in fragrance. I also bought pure patcholi oil from a distiller but unlike pure rose or oud oil I found it little unwearable on its own because of its sharp, butch, green ruggedness. The oil smells somewhat like tropical forest floor. But when its used as one of the ingredients by a master perfumer it works wonders. Then I tried " Patcholy " from Henry Jacques Dubai exclusives which has not been listed here on Fragrantica and "Patcholy" was so refined, pleasant and gave a light greenish vibe. About Mr H which is about Patcholi, spices, woody notes but tamed by rose it seems. The polished refinement is excellent. This is a long lasting fragrance and once the florals evaporate it becomes a great spicy woody scent like none other. Mr H offers super exclusivity, unmatched snob value, hype, pinnacle of craftsmanship, highest quality ingredients, olfactory nirvana and a stunning crystal spinning top flacon for $ 8000 or so. (Even that empty flacon is a priceless collectible) Patcholi oil is neither a rare oil nor its very expensive. But how Henry Jacques perfumers refined Patcholi oil to this astonishing level is beyond me. For a fragrance lover visiting Henry Jacques, Dubai is like entering the Alladin's cave. Thanks Salah, Sara and the awesome Henry Jacques team, Dubai for letting me try all these otherworldly, fabulous fragrances.

This is hands down one of the best HJ perfumes out there. It has really simple ingredients and the patchouli and cedar needle really do wonders. Right when I smelled it the first time, I knew this was going to hurt my wallet as it was exactly what I've been looking for in a scent. You'd be lucky here and there to find those who sell Les Toupies as decants as HJ actively discourages the practice. That won't stop me from trying!

This bottle was a bit of an investment. Probably one of the most stunning patchouli scents out there mixed with hints of sweetness and spiciness that blends in beautifully. Incredible craftsmanship by HJ.

This is an extraordinary and overwhelming stuff. Mr H will get you in trouble and hurt your feelings at the same time. Your wallet will dislike you badly once you get your nose on it 😃
