Fog

Side note (in reference to the Fragrance Notes): Ignore the listed notes on Fragrantica for most Henry Rose perfumes. For some reason, they’re wrong on all but maybe one. Instead, go to the Henry Rose website if you want a more detailed pyramid. Also, look at the specific ingredient list for each perfume. More details, and sometimes unlisted fragrance notes, are revealed online. They indicate the different chemicals from which each note is derived. I’ve rarely seen such transparency in an ingredient list for perfumes. Here are the corrected fragrance notes for Fog: TOP: muguet and fresh citrus MIDDLE: white woods and magnolia BOTTOM: vetiver, sandalwood, amber woods, and musk I really wish Fragrantica would update the notes for this one. Fog is so much more than vetiver and musk. A light citrus and magnolia are quite evident, as well as some light patchouli and vanilla in the base. I loved this on paper. It changed a tad on the skin. At first, I thought it might be too masculine. Yet, it didn’t take but a few minutes for its notes to envelop and shine in all its unisex glory. Fog feels like it should be a Le Labo fragrance—in the family of Another 13 or Matcha 26. I haven’t tried Bergamote 22, but I can believe those who have mentioned the similarities. I like this so much more than the Le Labo scents, though. As it dries down, it diverts from any direct Le Labo similarities and gets a little sweeter. There’s definitely some patchouli and vanilla in the base. Obviously, not at the concentration levels in their patchouli heavy fragrances. It’s the same DNA, but just enough to add a touch of sweetness without being overly saturated and cloying. I’ll be wearing this on its own as a lovely, clean skin scent. Although this has the potential for magic if layered with a light floral, or even a richer fall/winter fragrance. It could turn a cloying fragrance into something deliciously wearable. Someone below mentioned layering with Dark is Night by the same perfume house. I purchased Dark is Night while looking for a vanilla patchouli fragrance, and I found it a bit too heady and overwhelming on its own. If Fog could turn Dark is Night into a less cloying scent while still being able to enjoy what I love about Fog, I’d be delighted. I think the layering combinations are endless. I’ll come back when I’ve actually tried different variations. For now, I love the scent bubble I get all on its own, and I’m looking forward to the potential for more. This lasted all day for me. Of course, it becomes more of a skin scent as the day wears on, but I’m okay with that. I wear fragrances for myself. It’s one of my top two fragrances from Henry Rose. It might even be my top favorite. I’m desperately sad that Henry Rose has chosen to discontinue this beauty.

Cool, but comforting and cozy! I’ve been impatiently waiting for the weather to cool down, so I can start wearing Dark is NIght (my Henry Rose fave) a bit more comfortably, but I’d been thinking, “what could make this better?” While DIN is lovely on its own, I felt an additional floral note could punch it up in a more feminine way, so I started looking for its ‘perfect match’. Fog plays so heavenly well with Dark is Night, just like their name’s sake... like mist and darkness, come to lull you in... Fog on its own opens with a soft, bite of spiced citrus and settles into a light, and comforting floral musk that feels damp, but not dirty. (The sweeter notes definitely come through better on skin). Like over-steeped earl grey tea that you remember too late and has now gone cold, but you drink it anyway and enjoy it just the same. Paired with Dark is Night, they culminate together in a dance of contrasts that don’t overstep one another. The greener notes build each other up, while the florals soften the heaviness of the vanilla bean and patchouli. Together they are balanced.

Pleasantly surprised by this one. The description didn’t really grab me, as I gravitate toward warm, heavier, or spicy fragrances. For a while I was loving Dark is Night, then the spiciness of Last Light convinced me to buy a full bottle. Eventually I gave the sample of Fog a chance, thinking it would be too boring and simple. The first time I wore it I felt so beautiful. There’s something very familiar about it, like it could be a classic. Lavender wasn’t a listed note, but that’s what I kept smelling. Finally I looked at the full ingredient list (Henry Rose actually reveals everything in their fragrances), and sure enough lavender is listed three times. I would describe Fog as a smooth, sparkly, woody, slightly creamy lavender cloud. It’s not loud by any means, but it definitely radiates. It’s one of my favorite fragrances and FB worthy.

Fog was the winner for me out of the discovery set, although I have yet to sample Sheeps Clothing. The green notes sparkle in the beginning but not for long before the vetiver and magnolia roll in. The vetiver is present from here on out but maintains a softness somehow. It’s almost more earthy than it is dried grassiness. Anyway, it lands with the beautiful amber and musk but keeps its lightness and never pulls too thick. The sillage sits perfectly right around your personal bubble but the poor performance of it’s longevity puts a bit of a damper on things. Still, I went FB on this one.

The three biggest scents I notice is vetiver, a musk, and hint of anise and/or fennel. I agree it has a coldness, like others have said. If you're big into clean scents this fragrance will do it for you. It's absolutely versatile enough to wear year round but maybe less on very cold days. If you're worried about overwhelming people around you don't be, it's very office safe in my opinion. I'm pretty sure that this fragrance has been discontinued so keep that in mind for future purchases.

This is my favorite from the Henry Rose line; it's a pretty mild office sent...musky but fresh, not dirty or cloying. At first I was disappointed by the not so great longevity, and found it to be more on the boring side...but I wound up purchasing a bottle and I'm glad I did. Initially I smell something that reminds me of fennel, sweet and green and almost licorice-like. Main body of the perfume is musk. It could be a Narciso Rodriguez offering...maybe that's why I like it.

Though I have been a fragrance junkie for most of my adult life, I went through several bottles of Calvin Klein Truth; Fog is almost exactly like it! Strangely no overlap in actual notes, but it a dead ringer. It is warm and soft. I get a good 6 hours of scent, with moderate protection. It’s a gorgeous, high-quality clean perfume- worth the price. Also of note is Queens and Monsters- absolutely gorgeous and unique!

Ooh this one is so good! Vetiver, green and unisex is strongest at first, then this levels off into a beautiful vanilla-musk that lingers and smells incredible. I think this is my favorite from Henry Rose, though Jake's House is amazing too. This one is more unique and #mood worthy. It's how you feel walking through a park in the late Spring rain, sharing an umbrella with the one who gives you butterflies.

This is my new signature perfume. I can only describe this as heavenly-I would be content with smelling just this perfume for the rest of my life. It is clean but not sharp. Clean in a warm way, if that makes sense. I am so happy that this also happens to be a sustainable brand and that there are no toxic ingredients. Just the best of both worlds. Thank you Michelle Pfeiffer for making this gem!!

Fog is like a literal addiction, like the way it smells on you and how u just resonate with it because of it's scent is so like captivating; I do NOT understand why they discounted this fragrance. It smells like a dark forest but with an uplifting comforting scent behind it; the day I smelt fog I knew this was going to be my daily and signature scent.

I got the full discovery set from Henry Rose and am impressed by all of them. Fog is favorite...it smells sexy, luxurious, sophisticated, causal, formal, unisex. This scent is really luxurious smelling. Still waiting about longevity and sillage...but the scent is A+++++.

It’s intelligent and romantic. Great for work and all-season friendly although a more obvious choice for fall. Very androgynous. Not great for staying power or sillage. Definitely a great introduction to vetiver (my nose is a novice).

soft, comforting earl grey scent. initially very vetiver forward but softens into something like bergamot and lavender.

Beautiful, calm, cozy! Like a morning walk in a beautiful park after a rain.

It reminds me of the original Chloe perfume my grandmother wore. Gorgeous.

Blind buy at TJ Maxx for $29.99. The reviews here convinced me that it was worth a shot. It was! This fragrance no longer appears on the Henry Rose website, so it may be discontinued. On me, this turns to a very peppery Earl Grey and stays there. In my search for an Earl Grey/Leonson fog fragrance, this one is the most realistic, to my nose. The search ends here. I know it’s a vetiver fragrance, but I’m finding some bergamot in it. No muguet or musk for me, either! Very bright and cool aromatic, definitely for daytime wear. It is similar (on me) to Derek Lam Blackout, but without the creaminess. I suspect this fragrance is one that smells wildly different on people, depending on individual chemistry. I keep seeing complaints about Henry Rose fragrances’ longevity, but a quick spray has lingered on my wrist for eight hours. Maybe no one else can smell it, but I can. My daughter smelled the spray from another room. Better longevity than I expected from an all-natural/non-toxic perfumer. Sad that this fragrance seems to be discontinue, but happy I discovered it at a bargain price.

I first bought the sample kit with all 12 scents. I sprayed each individually on their own sniffing strips to be able to smell them without wearing them all at one time or wearing one a day for almost 2 weeks. Plus, I'm impatient and wanted to smell them all. I sprayed them all on their own cards the same day and did a sniff test. Some I really didn't care for at all and others seemed ok. Nothing really grabbed my attention. I bought it to try out Windows Down. Well, after they were sprayed and settled down, one kept my room with its fragrance. I couldn't tell at first which one it was but I was really liking it a lot. I could smell this note from my hallway. I finally went through each again to see which it was and it was Fog. I liked the vibes it gave off and the scent lingered. I ended up getting the full bottle and do like to keep that one in my rotation. I was able to get a full bottle from a selling/buying site for much cheaper than the actual website. So for me, the price point was spot on for it.

Don't pay attention to the notes list on Fragrantica. This is the real list: TOP NOTES: Muguet & Fresh Citrus MIDDLE NOTES: White Woods & Magnolia BOTTOM NOTES: Vetiver, Sandalwood, Amber Woods & Musk. This mostly smells woody and musky, with a slightly floral-powdery aspect. It does have a citrus note at the start, but it fades after a while. This scent is more inconspicuous than some of the others by Henry Rose but I really like it. The sandalwood, other woods, vetiver, and faint flowers make me think of the vegetation in a tropical forest. It does smell kind of "wet" in that it reminds me of shampoo in the shower

Very light perfume, gentle and soft, musky ...sits very close to the skin. It's like that vague scent you might smell on someone and it isn't recognizable at all, but you only find it good to be close to them...like smelling good without perfume. I personally wouldn't buy it because I could get the same thing from a nice lotion. But, there is a place for perfumes like this. For those who aren't really into perfume but want to smell nice. This is the gift for them. Keep in mind, the projection isn't there, but the longevity on the skin isn't terrible. Great for the office.

Most of the fragrances from Henry Rose have names that make no sense, such as Torn (which smells quite harmonious) and Menace (which is quite pleasing and relaxing). The name for Fog does make quite a lot of sense, however: the heavy musk at the bottom of this somehow makes every other note (vetiver, sandalwood, white florals) seem to slide into each other. It's a charming confusion of note, and suggests wetness. Unfortunately this last for a very brief time--just about two hours on me. I liked it while it lasted, though.

Soft, powdery, earthy and unique scent that sits very close the skin. I detect a citrus top note (the notes on this site are incorrect, as they are for many of the Henry Rose scents) but the vetiver and musk are the most prominent notes. Fog smells like an old laundromat, in the best way possible—concrete, soap flake residue, lint, and a slight mustiness. It’s hard to imagine this garnering attention, but I do think it’s a great “personal” perfume.

If you've smelled the charcoal face wash/face mask from Lush, this smells EXACTLY like that! Cold wet rocks on a craggy island coast on a dark and stormy (FOGgy) day in Ireland is the vibes this gives me lol. Do with that what you will. Very unique in my collection and one I share with my husband. Feel like this will particularly shine in the springtime.

A soft, calming scent. A little sweet but not in a sugary way; almost floral. Very unisex. Noticeable but not overpowering, and stays pretty close to the skin. Nice for everyday wear.

Doesn't fade as fast as Smyth, but it doesn't smell as good. Has a dirty smell to it. Not worth 120., since it won't last more than 2 hours, even in clothes

Lets see, scent of the fog, I was intrigued by this one. Vetiver is a given, lovely neutral earthy note. Then there is this milky baby barf and soft musk. Wet ground perhaps which by itself would be quite amazing to replicate. This is more like opening up window on a foggy day with a hot boiling milk on a stove. That's exactly this scent. Again quality of notes are cheapo smelling. This could've been done better. Longevity, I sprayed it on and disappeared shortly after, less than 1 hour.

Two perfumers for a perfume with 2 notes? Sounds like easy work, I need to moonlight as a perfumer 😄. In all seriousness, there's obviously more hidden notes. This one is hard to pick up on a tester, and disappears fast on skin. The review by fragrantguy below perfectly sums up my opinion on this one. I didn't find this terribly interesting.

An initial flush of warm, spicy sweetness, then a long lasting drydown of smoky vetiver and sandalwood. Even though I think the scent is overall enjoyable (reminds me of a mountain lodge), I found it to be quite strong, too strong for me personally, and more masculine leaning.

This was the only one out of the discovery set that really stood out to me. Wish it wasn’t so heavy on the aniseed as it gives more black licorice than anything else but it’s a fun scent.

Sweet (but not cloying) & slightly amber, musky, citrus. I have the rollerball of this so I can't get a proper wearing but I like it. Sillage and longevity are not great though.

one of the most nauseating things I've ever smelled. I've tried this multiple times because I like it in concept - vetiver and musk. for a brief moment the opening is promising. But I get that rubbery nutty vetiver that smells almost like burnt nuts / chemicals. Maybe thats just my nose. But if you know what I'm talking about with certain vetivers, run away from this because it is just that with musk. If it was a different vetiver, I would probably wear this. I think it's one of those things like sandalwood being like pickles for some people. I do like other Henry Rose offerings and I'm still so sad this doesn't work out for me because I love how it sounds in concept and the name of Fog. I'll keep searching for my "foggy day" scent

I did not like this perfume. I liked the idea of it with it being called Fog. After reading reviews of it having that earl grey essence of it, I got excited. I was imagining that it would remind me of a scene of fog slowly filling the forest. The cozy (milky scent) feeling of walking through that fog. So, I bought it as a blind buy. & I didn’t get that scene at all. After spraying it on my arm, I was nauseous. It was the overpowering heavy wood scent. The sad part in this scenario is that I couldn’t even wash it off. The scent stayed on me for hours.

I don't sense the floral notes listed on the website at all - I definitely don't smell muget or magnolia. On first sniff, it's really interesting - I smell sort of a wet landscape with eucalyptus in the background. Slightly lemony and herbal. After a few hours it settles down into an over steeped Earl Gray tea with milk and sugar in the raw. The vetiver continues to play without and sometimes can be a bit sharper or sour. The dry down reminds me of Bergamotte 22.

The top note is citrus and unfortunately that is all I can smell. I am not a fan of citrus but am okay with it if it fades away during the dry down. I had high hopes that this would be a musky sandalwood-y scent but on me (post drydown) it is not. That said, it might be my chemistry. It's a no from me. I had to wash this off. I liked it on the paper tester strip but on me it was way too much something.

I wanted to love this from all the reviews. I'm a fan of quality vetiver and amber essential oils so I thought this would be a nice intro to natural fragrances. Should have ordered a sample but went straight for the travel size. I will tell you I love certain colognes but most I find too heavy/musky/cloying. I even like some questionable classic retro scents like Drakkar Noir, Escape for men, Cool Water, Armani, and Polo, but I generally stick to essential oils like Petit Grain and Vetiver. Here is what i experience when i smell this cologne- In addition to an initial opening of citrus, amber, and baby powder, which I don't mind, Fog hits me with a sour chemical musk aroma that I find overwhelming and revolting. It's very powerful to me and I seem to remember smelling it in certain cheaper "English Leather" type colognes that you might find in some quaint haberdasherie somewhere. Something you find in the boudoir of an old gentleman, perhaps. A very old gentleman in fact, and the bottle is 50 years old. It's not subtle IN ANY WAY and I would never describe it as a "natural" type scent. I let me wife smell it and she said it reminded her of the sour, deodorant soaked arm-pit of some dude at a sweaty night-club. I'm not exaggerating and i have no ulterior motive for posting this. I honestly wanted to love this stuff. Sorry Henry Rose. Strangely they wouldn’t publish this review on their site, and tbh it seems kind of suspicious that no one in their reviews has had a similar reaction, but I wanted to send this review to inform others who might be thinking that Fog is reminiscent of a light whiff of Earl Grey in the morning or like opening a cedar box filled with amber crystals. It is not for me. I do see a lot of positive reviews on Fragratica so I guess this is all subjective, but dang- this stuff smells awful to me, and I actually am having a hard time “un-smelling” it. If anyone has any insight as to which of the many chemical ingredients I may be reacting to are, please share. It is definitely a smell I have come across in many other perfumes.

Starts off with a strong citrus/chypre note, which quickly softens into a sweet vanilla with powdery notes. I don't really detect the vetiver, which is supposed to be one of the stronger notes. The lemony fragrance at the very beginning--maybe faintly lilies-of-the-valley--remind me pleasantly of when I first smelled Jean Naté as a young girl. The musky scent underlying Fog is clean, a bit like Love's Baby Soft or Johnson's Baby Powder. Up close you can discern a faint spiciness, a kind of incenselike amber aroma. Sometimes Fog reminds me a bit of L'Heure Bleue, my favorite Guerlain scent of late, but it's much less complex, much less French somehow. It is described as earthy on the Henry Rose descriptive insert, which mentions vetiver and musk, but as weith all the Henry Rose fragrances I have tried so far, vanilla comes through. So far I think I like this one better than Dark Is Night and Smyth, but perhaps not quite as much as Windows Down, Flora Carnivora, Queens and Monsters, and Torn. The name seems contradictory at best. If it's really as "earthy" as described, why call it "fog"? It seems like fog transcends earth. But maybe the scent creators want to conjure up the image of fog in a forest, the brisk clean balsamics and rich soil substrate. Just not sure about this one, although I'm intrigued enough to keep smelling my wrist every few minutes. I'm glad the sample sizes are generous because I don't know if I will be able to decide on my favorite at this rate.

It is a certainly mysterious and captivating perfume. I am sensitive to smells and to me this one is rather strong. The perfume stayed on my skin for at least 8 hrs. Sillage is moderate: my parents could smell the perfume as I walked by much stronger than any perfume I typically wear. To describe the perfume itself: it does not seem particularly feminine to me. I think it is unisex. At first, the vetiver and the woodsy notes come out strongly. Then it slowly dissolves into a kind of salty smell - a bit like the ocean - mixed in with some sort of sweetness and warmth. Lastly, after about 2 hrs of wear, the saltiness recedes, and the perfume settles into a very nice gentle powdery green citrus with warm slightly salted caramelized sugar notes. I do enjoy this :) but I am not a big fan of neither the first strong woodsy, nor the second salty note, as I typically prefer more feminine floral smells. At this price ($120/50mL), I want a perfume in which I could love the first two notes as well. Thus, my search for a clean perfume continues. I want to add that this is certainly a mature sophisticated perfume. I would not get it as a present for a teen, for example.

Fog is green, grassy and woody. The musk is soft and clean. It's odd to describe a musky note as clean and fresh, but it is. Reading through the descriptions, Fog was the fragrance I expected to like the least from Henry Rose. I'm not a huge fan of fresh fragrances because they frequently are loaded with aroma chemicals that I dislike - Calone and Cascalone are just two of many. I tossed my sample of Fog into a drawer and forgot about it. When I finally sampled it, I was very pleasantly surprised. Fog is my favorite from the line. Similar to most of the Henry Rose line, Fog had a light projection with good longevity. After a few wearings, I decided Fog is full bottle worthy.

I ordered a flight of five sample fragrances from the new Henry Rose line. Finding the sweet spot in Henry Rose is for me a pas de deux — the beauty is in pairing two fragrances, in this case Fog + Torn. Fog is a bit of a misnomer; Lighthouse or Mist might have been more apt. The citrusy, woodsy musk in Fog rounds out the vanilla and vetiver in Torn. I don’t see citrus listed here but that is the top note I get. In partnership with the Environmental Working Group, Henry Rose is a welcome line of fragrances with transparent ingredients. Elegant and understated. Just what you would expect from Michelle Pfeiffer. Postscript: I like the pairing of Fog and Jake’s House.

The drydown of this perfume is better than the opening. The opening is to crisp, the bergamont and the lily of the valley smack you in the face. As the scent softens it becomes more woody, which I like. If the beginning was softened it would be a nice fragrance but it was a no for me. I do like this house though and have bought 3 fragrances from them. Queens and Monsters, Dark is Night and Last Light. My niece loves Jakes House and Queens and Monsters, my best friend fell for Torn. My sister in Law loves Smyth. This house offers a nice range of different scents in their sample kit almost everyone can find at least 1 they will love.

Wowww beautiful! This is not my usual wheelhouse since it’s more cool-coded and atmospheric. The musk wins me over! The bergamot is potent and realistic and there’s this lovely fuzzy/hazy quality (dare I say foggy?) The vetiver is a dominating note especially in the dry down. It smells like bark and soil. For me that’s a plus but if you don’t like earthy notes, I’d steer clear. Like many Henry Rose scents, Fog walks the line of elevated and down-to-earth so well. My husband absolutely adores it but also said it reminds him of a fresh box of newports lmao

The discovery set rendition of FOG was mesmerizing. I happily purchased a bottle and it is not even close to the small vial in the discovery set. This situation is not exclusive to Henry Rose, but I expected more from Henry Rose. At the very least consistent product continuity. There was zero longevity!! Much more definitely traditionally perceived masculine notes as well. So extremely different from the vial. The customer service was abhorrent during the return process. Very hesitant to try other fragrances in the line. The entire process made me sad.

It's vetiver with a clean musky base. Vetiver, in my experience, can skew either green and grassy or dry and hay-like. This is a verdant, grassy vetiver. That slight dampness makes "fog" an apt name - it's a morning fog on the moors. Vetiver is a note that I like very much, and so I'm not bothered by the fact that there's not much else going on here. It might be considered creatively underwhelming, but it's a clean, natural-smelling take on the office scent - a cool, damp green for the cubicle.

This smells great and is a very nice skin scent, but not like a vetiver, then dies down to nothing. Like many of their scents, nice for dates, no one is going to be overwhelmed and they are broadly pleasing. However, I am still confused as ever about this brand. These ingredients are synthetic and so common that it is hard to justify the price. Ingredients: Synthetic jasmine, ISO E super, synthetic musk, linalool (floral citrusy), linalyl (woody citrus)

Citrus made misty with notes of powdered wood and subtle spices. Not sure how there isn’t bergamot in this. It really starts like it’s name-sake; cool, a little crisp, foggy, but definitely citrus-y. Dry down I like less, as the citrus and musk combine to make it smell more like a fabric softener. Not really woody considering it’s vetiver. Overall easy to wear and pleasant, but maybe not enough of a personal scent so much as a Home Fragrance.

surprised no one has suggested any similarity to narcisco rodriguez for women or parisian musc. similar vibes, but much more lived in and doesn't give me that sick to my stomach feeling which is appreciated. throw glossier's you into the mix and you got yourself a close match. i want to say there's also some sort of iris note in here somewhere, must be the vetiver though

really pretty musky scent that's not dirty or animalic in any way!! there's an amber note that gives it a touch of caramel-y sweetness. it's strangely both light and heavy at the same time, which i guess is in line with the name fog. truly beautiful, versatile scent that i could see working in a variety of settings !

I adore this scent! It’s so cozy and long lasting. I don’t get any of the notes listed here. I can only describe how it makes me feel, it’s warm and cozy, feels like walking through a mossy forest. There’s a light floral note that makes this a beautiful and wearable perfume.

Am a sucker for a good musk and this delivers with the Rooty Vetiver in tow. Vetiver can be a difficult note for some but Fog balances the few notes nicely to create a a pleasant aura of a fragrance. Next to Flora Carnivora this is a favorite from the Line. * * *
