Black Currant Rose

Oh my, I love this beauty. Of the entire Heretic line, this is the one I fancy the most. It’s soft, inoffensive, and best of all for me, it has none of the “dirty” notes. Of the three top notes, the one I get is geranium. Then the blackcurrant, the powdery rose, and the raspberry make for a comforting, sweet, very pleasing scent. Now if Heretic would please just make this one a permanent part of their line, and none of this limited edition nonsense.

This is a pretty scent. That's where my compliments end. Black Currant Rose resembles any number of rose-berry scents, only weaker. I own Maison Louis Marie's very similar Antridis Cassis, and sprayed the two scents side-by-side. Heretic's Black Currant Rose is simply AC after six hours, a thin ghost of a robust rose-cassis fragrance. And Antridis Cassis itself is simply a near-twin of Dyptique's L'Ombre Dans L'Eau. All of this is to say is that Heretic's version of this scent is the weakest, most attenuated version in a game of fragrance telephone. For the price, one can easily do much better. I like many Heretic scents, and the line does have a few successful rose-dominant fragrances in its arsenal (Flower Porn and This Smells Like My Vagina are quite simply good rose-dominant florals, gimmicky names notwithstanding), but I don't know if they fully understand what makes roses sexy sans marketing.
