Blood Orange

I got the Blood Box today, and Heretic never misses for me. I can see where they are going with the whole collection, although all four scents are different, there is a certain ~haunting~ quality that ties them together, making them recognizably Heretic's. All four scents work very well with my skin chemistry, too, which is amazing. I have smelled plenty of citrus scents, but I have yet to smell anything like this. I politely disagree with previous reviewers, this is absolutely a gothic orange. At least, the way it mixes with my skin... There is something ~naughty~ and almost obscene lurking behind the bright citrus. Funnily, reminds me of La religieuse by Serge Lutens. There is nothing similar between the two scents, except the naughty undertone that lurks in the background when I apply them on my skin. I very much enjoy this.

My favourite of the Blood Box, but it’s not bloody or ~ gothique ~ in the slightest. This is a spa-time citrus. It’s like basking the sweet vapours of the oil diffuser section in a Muji store. The opening gives a brief tease of jasmine before fading into juicy orange. If I stretch, maybe I can imagine a bit of cedar, but by and large it does what is says on the tin. Orange. Orange. And orange. Valencia orange, navel orange. Orange orange. Just forget the blood part. Unfortunately I can’t squeeze any longer than an hour and a half out of it. on my skin, this evokes urine inside of a diaper that both should have been changed an hour ago and is covered with a pleasant baby powder; the child has been drinking nothing but orange juice all day. it should be noted that i have no children, nor have i been in contact with a diaper-age person in the past several years, so that is to be taken with a grain of salt. a less bizarre description would be a wet orange inside of a powdered sack. sniffing the nozzle, it is purebred orange. upon first spritz, it is soaking ammonia and very acidic, headache-inducing orange juice, which is an immediate turn-off for me. when i show it patience, it calms into a musky, dry orange still hanging from its branch. i am not sure how pleased one would be if they purchased this fragrance with an emphasis on wanting the 'dirty' of dirty orange. it is not an intolerable fragrance; i imagine that it could be quite nice on someone whom it suits (who is certainly not me). one person who i can imagine it not being jarring or juvenile on is a person who i am unfortunately no longer in contact with: 70s/2000s maximalist, third eye-esque, flared low rises, large afro femmebutch lesbian. if you too match this description, then i could recommend dirty orange, and perhaps with some variety of dark berry fragrance layered over top. this is not for me, i will not be using it, but i remain neutral on it.

On first spray, this is a lovely, rich citrus orange with all the sweetness and slight bitter tang implied plus a slightly funky, dirty smell buried in it. Unfortunately, I can't smell it at all after 20 minutes unless I take a comically loud sniff with my nose actually touching the fabric where I sprayed. I can't even tell you whether I like it because it's gone before I can get a feel for it.

This smells exactly like if you peeled an orange and had the zest linger on your skin! So bright and fresh, slightly sweet mixed with sour (in the best mouth watering way)! It is so clean and delicious, and the dry down is soft and I definitely get some of that vanilla in there. I adore it. It’s absolutely everything I’ve ever wanted in a citrus scent. Heretic nailed it. Adding this to my top 5 favourite citrus scents for sure.

Opens with juicy mandarin oranges, kinda bitter like the rind, also a hint of florals. One spray is still there on my wrist after 8 hours which is great for an all natural citrus scent, but... It’s just hard to justify the cost for the simplicity of the scent. I appreciate that it’s all natural but if I’m spending $100+ I need something more than this. Di Ser offers a much more interesting scent profile for a similar price 3/5

Drinking an orange soda outside at a cafe in the summer while the smell of seasonal flowers floats in the air around you. Incredible scent with horrible performance unfortunately
