Cactus Abduction

This is so funky, fresh and fun! 🌵 I really enjoy Heretic as a house and I love that they’re plant-based, but I have performance problems with most of their scents. I also find their scents to be too linear - understandably so, as their scents are meant to be layered. That being said, Cactus is very different. This has lasted much longer than Heretic’s other scents on me. Projection was also pretty decent. It’s been a few hours and I can still smell it on my arms. In terms of profile, you get the cactus (prickly pear) and the green pepper is there but never overbearing. It even feels a bit aquatic - maybe the aloe wood? In a world of boring greens, this one truly stands out from the bunch. Definitely leans more masculine, but it really is unisex at the end of the day. If you’re looking for a fresh, fun spring/summer scent this is such a good choice!

Bright, green and fresh, but I wish it lasted longer. On my skin it feels like it's gone by the time I leave the house. Grapefruit at first and then vetiver and patchouli dominate on me. I grew up in AZ but I it's clearly not the desert they were going for or they would have added creosote (haha). I've been wearing it during the wet winter days to make me feel warmer.

This is very nice. It definitely gives me Terre d'hermes which I own a bottle of. There is something slightly sweeter in this though. I was curious to try it because of the prickly pear note. But I don't really smell that, though I suppose I wouldn't recognize it since I've never smelled that note. Stays close to skin, good for the day and warmer weather.

I think initially i wondered why anyone would wear this but it quickly turned into such a soft delightful smell. It totally reminded me of my mom. Like getting a hug from my mom. Her body’s warm skin scent. So it is a win for me. The first five seconds aren’t good but for those would love skin scent this is heaven.

The description is accurate "crisp citrus, juicy prickly pear, verdant geranium, smoky vetiver and benzoin." The notes blend well together and don't overpower each other. It feels like you should be drinking a margarita on a hot humid summer night. It's classic smelling, in the vein of Ormonde Jayne's Verano.

Verdant and iridescent. Feels like looking out into the desert and watching heat waves shimmer on the horizon. It's very strong on me--two sprays is almost overpowering.

We are stepping out of the dark, gothic intensity of Cœur Noir today and preparing to be mystified by one of the most conceptually bizarre fragrances I've encountered from the house: Heretic Parfums’ Cactus Abduction. The name alone signals a complete departure from traditional perfumery, hinting at a surreal, desert-based narrative involving some unexpected, cosmic flight. This immediately sets up an aromatic expectation of dry, vegetal, and possibly sharp green notes colliding with something entirely alien or synthetic. The main thing we need to find out is this: Does this wildly imaginative concept result in a surprisingly fresh and innovative wear, or does the raw, plant-based approach make the "abduction" too strange and difficult to appreciate on the skin? Let's venture into the otherworldly desert and see what this strange encounter smells like. Opening: The opening is an intense pop of citrusy, green, and spicy notes. The primary accords I perceive are bitter orange, green pepper, prickly pear, and ginger, with the bitter orange and green pepper standing out the most. The fragrance starts with an intense pop of bitter orange—juicy, citrusy, and appropriately bitter. This scent is so incredibly similar in tone to the blending of the orange and flint notes used in Terre d'Hermès that the comparison immediately crossed my mind upon first whiff. Following the orange is the green pepper note. I haven't experienced this note in fragrance before, but its portrayal here is very realistic, reminding me of the green, vegetal, and subtly spicy aroma of fresh-cut green bell peppers. Next up are the prickly pear and ginger. The prickly pear, the namesake of the cactus, manifests as a supporting fresh, green, and watery accord. While I can't confirm its botanical accuracy, it provides a very natural and plant-like vibe that I would assume is what a cactus smells like. Lastly, the ginger lingers in the background, giving the opening a fresh and spicy kick similar to what I find in fragrances like Tygar or Vibrato, but significantly more dialed back. Dry Down: The dry down remains citrusy, green, and woody. The primary notes shift to bitter orange, green pepper, prickly pear, and vetiver, with the bitter orange and green pepper remaining the most prominent. The dry down is quite linear, with the main differences being the intensity and the swap-out of ginger for vetiver. The scent is much smoother and more reserved than the opening, and the ginger has burned off and made way for the vetiver, manifesting as a dry, woody, and slightly grassy accord. Further in the background, I find hints of a sweet, balsamic accord from the benzoin, but it isn't immediately noticeable. Performance: The initial projection within the first hour is moderate, hovering around 3–5 feet. Sillage matches that, with a scent trail that is adequately noticeable—neither too heavy nor too light. After about 3–4 hours, the performance was largely unchanged. However, at the 7–8 hour mark, the fragrance had already become a skin scent, suggesting a noticeable performative lifespan of approximately 5–6 hours. When to Wear: Cactus Abduction is a bright, uplifting spring/summer fragrance best worn during the daytime. Its scent profile is highly versatile; fresh, bright, and green, making it suitable for a variety of occasions. It would work very well for casual, formal, or even office wear. However, I wouldn't select it for special occasions, as its vibe doesn't quite match. Blind Buy: If you enjoy fragrances in the style of Terre d'Hermès, this is probably a very safe blind buy for you. The unusual prickly pear and green pepper notes are not weird or challenging, and the other potentially challenging notes, like carrot and Vietnamese oud, are completely imperceptible. Final Verdict: Cactus Abduction delivered a scent profile I thoroughly enjoyed, perhaps more than most of the other fragrances I've tried from Heretic Parfums. The opening is a beautiful, green, and slightly cosmic take on the classic vetiver-citrus structure. However, this enjoyment is tempered by its striking resemblance to Terre d'Hermès, which is both a blessing and a curse. While the scent is fantastic, I already own Terre d'Hermès, and since that fragrance outperformed Cactus Abduction in longevity and projection, there is simply no compelling reason for me to own this fragrance. It’s a wonderful, artistic take on a well-established genre, but in a direct comparison, Terre d'Hermes takes the edge on performance. For now, I will enjoy the sample but pass on a full bottle. I do see the comparisons to Terre d'Hermes, but while a pleasant freshie, Cactus Abduction has none of the woody aromatic depth, projection, or longevity of TdH. If you're one of those people who thinks TdH is only for colder seasons (couldn't be me) but like the scent profile, maybe this is your solution for summer. It opens with a hit of citrus, mostly grapefruit, and the vetiver is what lingers. I don't really smell any of the other notes distinctly, especially not the prickly pear. Heretic being largely natural as far as I know lacks longevity. It is very pleasant but not earth-shattering and not really worth the price point whenTdH or even eau givrée is right there and available very affordably from discounters or secondhand. I got mine in a swap but wouldn't spend the money on it otherwise. The bottle is cute though.

I really enjoy this scent. The opening blast is airy and ethereal to me. My nose was telling me sweet sage, which isn't a note in this scent. Pretty fast the citrus starts to come in and the prickly pear note is juicy and sweet, but it still has an airy sweetness to it that reminds me of garden herbs. As it dried it starts to lean ever so slightly masculine. Someone below mentioned mens aftershave and I can see that with the vetiver, but the sweetness keeps it from tipping out of the unisex lane. For a Heretic scent it projects ok. I can smell it on my arm without shoving my face into my skin. It's my second favorite Heretic scent behind Dirty Hinoki.

A watery fresh perfume, with lightly vegetal and citrus notes. Feels like an eau fraiche splash more than a perfume really, like something men in hot climates might pat on after shaving. Despite that vibe, it’s also totally unisex, and very pleasant to wear. Perfect for hot humid weather, as it is refreshing and cooling and just feels light but refined and clean and put together. As others have noted, Heretic uses natural ingredients, but even so, this lasted on my skin a good 6 hours, very respectable for this type of watery freshie.

This is a scent of an entirely unique category. The opening has that nasal piercing quality of menthol or eucalyptus, but doesn't exactly smell like either one of those. Totally unexpected compared to other Heretic scents. So unique that I appreciate it but don't know if I would wear it. It feels very unisex. Doesn't have discernable notes to my amateur nose but the green pepper makes sense.

Very different on me than on card. On card, green and interesting, definutely getting the cactus note. On my skin, I lose the green altogether. It smells more like a powdery iris? Talcum powder, spa-day, fluffy towels. Nice, but not what I was hoping for! Might spray it on my clothes instead of my skin, to get more of the advertised notes.

Definitely spicy green with a hint of something aquatic. Very refreshing, spa-like, and shampoo-y, which sounds like it would be basic, but the individual notes are very hard to place which makes it pretty interesting. Great for hot weather!

A lemongrass-y, spicy ozonic-fougère. Yeah. What?! Fresh, airy, vaguely aquatic, uniquely green. Vegetal w/ a hint of fruit. Bitter. Ginger-y. Otherworldly. This is the skin scent of cultured androgynous aliens. 👽👽🥂

Mossy green cactus leather. The nopal note is interesting. Not sweet. A couple hours later, the drydown is reminding me of Vilhelm’s Morning Chess, which also reads as green leather to me. Impressive longevity.

This is an interesting perfume. I am trying a sample of this from the beach goth discovery set and while I'm yet to get through trying all the perfumes from the set, I think Cactus Abduction gives the most beach/summer goth vibes to me personally. I first sprayed this on the post card that the discovery set came in and I hated the smell on there. On the card it smelled smokey in a synthetic kinda way, but at the same time smelled very intensely of plants. The overall fragrance of this also smelled quite airy/fizzy, similar to Black Salt, but to the point of being quite gaseous in an almost suffocating kind of way. On me, the synthetic scent isn't as apparent and the aloe and other green notes on this is a little more obvious. I think Heretic did a fantastic job with their artistic interpretation of a desert and its natural flora with this fragrance. The use of green plant notes here with a more ozonic presentation makes this an appropriate warm weather scent that's a little uncanny, unsettling. The longevity is also great with this fragrance, but something interesting I have noticed with this is that it smells different on my wrists vs what I can smell around me hours later; on my wrists, all I can really smell is the vetiver base note of this fragrance but I can still smell the gaseous aloe all around me when I'm obviously not smelling the fragrance up close to my skin. While I appreciate Cactus Abduction for its artistry and performance, it's not really a perfume I personally like for me. Once my sample from the set is done, I will not be repurchasing.

I sprayed on my hand at a perfumery today, and it was bugging me what it reminded me of. The cactus and green pepper suggestion in my head took me away from what it could be, but then it hit me after about 30 minutes to an hour. This smells almost identical to the original TdH edt. After knowing that I really tried to get any of the other notes that didn’t overlap, like the green pepper or cactus, but unfortunately I can’t pick them out even though I tried. While not smelling bad (I’ve always liked TdH), it’s very unoriginal and a big disappointment. I wanted a cactus note and supporting notes around that, even a green pepper note (Amazingreen is so good for example), but nothing there for me to want to get this one.

It's alright. I am generally not a fan of green fragrances, but this one is not offensive. I do smell the citrus, and the green pepper and carrot, there is this almost vegetal savoriness to it. Ginger comes through as well. It's not unpleasant. An interesting take on a green scent, something I have not smelled before. Worth a try.

Very light and underwhelming scent, performs in very close proximity. Instantly, it gives off a fresh, aquatic, sweet smell -- like pink bubble gum, and a citrusy fruit salad. Dried down, barely anything, like you've just showered with Dove soap.

This scent is summer in a bottle. When I smell this, I immediately get beach day vibes. To me, it gives sunscreen and fresh flowers. But it also melts into the skin in away that makes it seem like this is your natural scent.

Noooooo... 😭 I really wanted to like this!!! Cactus Abduction broke my streak of loving everything I tried from Heretic. Which is probably best for the sake of my bank account, let's be honest. Looking at the notes and the more favorable reviews, I had anticipated that this could be something really unusual. Perhaps venturing into weirdcore/surrealist territory, especially considering the bottle art and packaging, and the fact that it's called "Cactus Abduction", ffs. The carrot note had me thinking it might be a greener version of Fourteen Carrots, which is one of my alltime favorites, but I really couldn't be too sure what this might smell like. Tragically, on my skin, CA turns sharp and (bit masculine) soapy, and I can't really discern any of the notes, and it stays sharp and soapy for the duration. Obviously they can't all be winners, but this one stings (emotionally) a bit.

The carrot note here is putrid, I can’t stand it! It permeates through all the stages. 🤢

I'd appreciate my reviews not being erased. Anyway..... this stuff is garbage. Ignore. Move on. No inspiration, no complexity, no performance. I'd rather have a synthetic power bomb then something like this. It doesn't even smell all that nice.

Smells like cleaning product to me- not my taste!

The experience of wearing this perfume today was like deja-vu -- I wore Coriandre by Jean Couturier in the 70s and 80s and loved it, and this is extremely close - maybe identical - in its fizziness, its bright-green-ness, its herb and citrus notes. Love the grapefruit! So of course, I enjoyed this one, and it lasted all day, I still get whiffs of it 15 hours later. For me it's nostalgic, but I don't think it would read as dated to younger people. However, I've given away my age ... and I completely admit I could be wrong about that. :-)

This one is a bit underwhelming. Take that mineral profile of TdH Eau Givree and make the citron note more boring [less prominent, more of a generic bergamot]. The prickly pear and pepper notes are completely made up as well. It's certainly not bad but not nearly as unique as the marketing implies, and not worth the price point.

If frutiger aero had a scent. Smells like a scent diffuser in a beautiful hotel bathroom. Or an alien’s aftershave. I definitely understand the cleaning product association, but I love it anyway. Fresh, bright, and a little strange.

to me this is a fresh, fruity, more traditional fougere style profile of Terre d'Hermes i get soapy notes, lemongrass, pepper, leather, orange, gunpowder, & grapefruit 4-5 sprays has good projection and lasts all day

I really wanted to love this but the opening is so intensely cleaning product on me that it’s just not one I would ever wear.
