Dirty Ginger

Very aptly named, and lives up to the "Dirty" moniker better than any of Heretic's others in their Dirty line. If you want your perfume to smell like clean laundry or shower freshness, this isn't the one for you. If you're looking for something exotic and carnal, then look no further. I think this one is completely unisex. Starts off with beautifully pungent, mouthwatering, in your face fresh GINGER and lime. Very quickly the ginger and lime settle down (though still very much present) and the cumin becomes prominent. This is where the "dirty" part of DG kicks in, and as others have noted the cumin can be pretty bodily. While it's definitely reminiscent of B.O., it's in the best way - very sexy. Underneath all this is a green earthy smokiness from the shiso, vetiver, and labdanum. It's similar to Goop's Edition 02/Shiso, which Douglas Little also created and which shares many of the same notes so this is no surprise. If you've smelled that one, I would say DG is (not surprisingly) much heavier on the ginger and lime. They are particularly similar in the extreme dry down.

Once you get past the astringent opening, about 5 minutes, you’re in for a ginger treat. This is the first time I’ve worn anything from this brand, Heretic, so I’m not familiar with any of their other offerings. Anyway, my first impression is that I’m loving this natural composition, ginger is dominant but their are other herbal and spice elements: shiso, citrus and cumin. It’s absolutely wearable, a lovely journey, and I’m loving it. A couple of side notes: Dirty Ginger is nothing like Grimoire, I’m not sure who voted that way, but maybe your bottle has gone off? And when I saw that stupid Gwyneth Paltrow vagina candle for sale on the Heretic website, it made me question everything about this brand.

A unique citrus aromatic scent . Unlike its name suggests, the perfume is not totally about ginger, although ginger is one of the main notes. The other notes it is blended with include pepper, cumin, clove, shiso, lime, tea, paolo santo and vetiver. All these lend a mystical South Asian vibe to this nicely balanced natural perfume reminiscent of the holy water used in Hindu Vedic rituals. The slight masculine leaning scent has moderate sillage and good longevity. Very interesting and somewhat evocative. Enjoy!

Spectacular!!! That's the word to describe Dirty Ginger by Heretic Parfums! I absolutely adore this fragrance! I just sprung for the full bottle as it's so amazing! Bright...bright ginger with lime! It smells even better than it sounds. The shiso leaf, woods and vetiver all combine to make this one of my new top fragrances!!! The all natural composition of this product does affect longevity to some degree, but it is just so brilliant that I can say enough good things about it! Highest recommendation!!!

plastic lime ginger. but i mean that as a compliment ! to me comes off as an avant garde comme des garcons type scent. a concept, and one that lasts long on the skin too. if i were to smell this on a person, i'd come away thinking they have a strong conviction in their own taste and aesthetic.

I really like this. I thought it would be much simpler than it is. Obviously it smell like ginger but it is also pepper and fresh. Whenever I wear this I get complements and to me it smells very clean.

Oh, if only we could soar in the clouds a little bit longer! The ginger. The GINGER! Oh my goodness, this is actually, for several fabulous minutes, the most breath-taking ginger scent without being foodie. It skews a bit "masculine" but it's just a zesty, lemony, fantastic spicy ginger blast with citrus following. And then...shamefully, cumin appears. I love cumin, and I actually get along just fine with it in a lot of "skanky" or "BO" type perfumes. I often think it adds a depth or grounding or is in just the right amount to smooth a scent out or add "some" sexy armpit/crotch. But this. This is unwashed after the gym major "crotch." And it wasn't good. The lift of the ginger (so clean, dare I say) and the lemony-zest of it, so bright and crisp I could smell it as if I was peeling the skin of a ginger root became a weird funked BO, a hot cumin-salsa. So my highest rating goes to the name, which is absolutely accurate: "Dirty Ginger." It is. Try it, if nothing else, for that opening--you may enjoy the dry down more than I did.

Starts off as a bold, dark, obnoxious ginger note that mellows out but never really leaves. Possibly a bit much for some, but the obnoxiousness is a part of what I like about it. Ginger beer-ish more than a sweeter, lighter, ginger ale-ish type of scent.

This kind of came up to my expectations. Nice, woody ginger. The name is very accurate.

One of my all time favourites! This is a perfect summer fragrance for my weirder sensibilities - fresh and zesty and sparkling with a peppery bite to it. Fortunately I don't seem to get the sweatiness from the cumin that others report, though there is a certain grubby earthiness to the dry down (which I really enjoy). It's such a bold scent but so wearable, probably due to the lightness of the projection. Probably wouldn't recommend blind-buying unless you're the kind of person who eats raw ginger, in which case don't hesitate.

This is bracingly zesty, sharp ginger with some beautifully complementary spices and herbal notes. Cumin and shiso come through particularly strongly, alongside prominent citrus and tea notes. It's earthy and pungent, for lovers of the scent of freshly-grated ginger. I think it would work equally well in all seasons except for the dead of winter. It feels more like some home-fashioned elixir than an actual perfume, perhaps, but I tend to like that. It's one of Heretic's better releases.

Sexy, green, more nuanced than I expected! I've been wearing the hell out of this at work, it brings an almost aromatherapy essential oil calming sensation to me. The fresh herbaciousness is perfect for my everyday life in breezy, sunny California... where almost any fragrance I wear with depth becomes cloying 6 months out of the year. Longevity is nil.. which kind of works when I need something light at work. A touch up at lunch does the job.

This one totally works for me. I understand the sensitivity to the cumin note for many and the comparison with unwanted body odor. The note has been incorporated into L'Autre Diptyque, Angéliques Sous La Pluie, among others. I do recognize the cumin in Dirty Ginger, but for me it soon melds into a wearable, likeable and fairly complex fragrance. Will add it to my wish list for now - maybe run it by some friends' noses to double-check.

I get heavy cardamom at the end and I like it.
