Dirty Violet

Skin, softness and magnetic sensuality. A beautifully composed floral with a distinctly modern character. Soft, creamy, powdery, musky, woody, with a subtle smokiness all at once. It leans unisex, yet carries a kind of embodied femininity - not perfumed or decorative, but natural and lived-in. What makes it special is the texture. It feels like skin rather than something sitting on top of it. Warm, slightly sweet, very well balanced. The structure is what really hooked me: woods, patchouli, a touch of amber and incense, intertwined with orris, violet leaf and rose in a way that feels seamless. It has an old-school elegance but still feels modern and personal. Unique, yet incredibly wearable. On skin, this is where it truly shines. It becomes more than a scent - it becomes an atmosphere, almost merging with your own skin rather than projecting outward. I can’t stop smelling my own skin when I wear it. Performance is the only real drawback. It stays very close and fades faster than I’d like. Heretic uses natural ingredients and is upfront about the need to reapply. Still, I wish it lasted longer.

Heretic sprayed one of my orders with this fragrance and I immediately had to order it. Even my very picky husband, after smelling the box, went "woah we should get it" so we did lol Dirty Violet smells very unisex to me, but with masculine energy. I get violets, definitely labdanum and cypriol, some smokiness, and something that smells like human sweat but in a very attractive way. It's very aromatic, musky, fresh, tickles your nose a bit. Literally smells like a hot person. I can see this being a great night out/concert/bar scent, but because of the freshness you can still wear it anytime, anywhere. Also there's something very urban and modern about it. My husband says it smells like someone is burning palo santo and smoking a fancy cigar at the same time, and I totally agree. Love love love! Longevity and projection are great too

This is my all-time favorite Heretic fragrance. I've owned several, but this takes the cake. I would cry if they ever retired this one 🤣 will be ordering a 100 ml one day soon hopefully! There's just something about this blend of florals and resins etc. it's so earthy, but also light and wearable. To me it's the perfect moody/goth girl fragrance. If I'm feeling dark and devious, this is what I wear. Love love love it!

Omg there is something about this that hits so heavenly but a dark heaven. To me this is blended perfectly. I normally don’t do Cypriol but here it works. I can smell all facets. Reminds me of October and babydoll dresses with tights underneath and listening to shoegaze. This will be my colder weather signature scent.

I wore this for the first time today after purchasing the beach goth set. This is not really a summer scent to me. Maybe more early to mid spring when you might begin to get some sunny days here and there, but some gloomy rainy days on other days. Today was one of those days for me and I thought Dirty Violet was the perfect scent for that. The initial spray is quite strong and musky. Initially to me smelled like some random Avon perfume my mum used to own when I was a kid. A little floral, but not a sweet floral since I suppose violets naturally have more of a powdery, earthy scent anyway that's only ever so slightly sweet. I barely get any of the jasmine or rose oil here, if at all. I found the scent to be quite cloying in the first two hours and tried to rub the perfume I applied on my neck to my clothing, but rubbing amplified the smell even more. Later, the scent became a little lighter. Still impactful and musky, but in a more papery sort of way. It's what I'd imagine paper flowers made of crepe paper would smell like they had a smell. Or maybe the Avon catalogue itself that has the perfume sample inside the actual magazine. For much of the day, this ended up being quite lovely and gives Victorian goth vibes to me. I was also pleasantly surprised by the longevity since quite a number of reviews online talk about Heretic's fragrances having bad longevity, but the 2 that I've tried so far have had decent longevity that have lasted me a full work day. I will probably not invest in a full size after I finish my sample though because I feel like this perfume really isn't "me" at the end of the day but I like it for what it is and I'm glad to have been able to try it. I will happily finish up the sample I got.

I was so intrigued/intimidated by all of the comments mentioning leather and cigarettes and acrid cat piss (in the case of one review I saw). Not sure what all of the fuss is about? Definitely sweet and powdery after the initial dry-down, and gets sweeter over time, but it has a great warmth under it too. Not gourmand at all (thankfully, hate that). Pretty and sexy, subtle in that it definitely wears close to the skin. Might pair with something sage-y to enhance the musk. Definitely my new club perfume; Wore to The Box and it was perfect.

The patchouli basically punched me in the face straight out of the bottle :D Then it turned sour, somehow. Sour violets? Is that a thing? I tried many Heretic fragrances, and this is the first one that did not work for me at all. Oh well. Can't have them all, I guess Update: I tried it a couple more times, and it works a bit better with my skin on a cold rainy day, I get the earthiness and no sourness. I finally get the appeal, after letting my sample sit in the drawer for two months. Changed my rating to "like".

Unique powdery floral, petals ripped from the stem, crushed & scattered across the broken-in leather of the funky back seat of a 70’s Firebird Trans Am. I like it. 🥀

very artistic and complex. perhaps not for everyone, but I find this beautiful, gothic and melancholic. i envision a creekside walk in Edinburgh at dusk.

Powdery, leathery violet. Very gorgeous for evening or daytime.

Violet and patchouli. Earthy, smoky, dry and sweet. I love it.

The powdery violet scent is very strong on me, getting sweeter and more "purple" as I wear it. I like it but it's way too strong. It's also just a "like" because it's more one note on me that the other Heretic scents in my sample kit. Voodoo Lily, Black Salt and Nosferatu were all more complex and interesting and I invested in full bottles of Nosferatu and Black Salt during the Black Friday sale. The cedar note did come out noticably which my chemistry always greatly amps up but it didn't turn horribly sour like it usually does. The woody note is softer and sweeter that that. Maybe the Orris root and amber are coming down that cedar. It's just very strong, overpowering, lasts forever, and projects widely. I don't get any "dirty", musk or smoke which is disappointing, but the dry very powdery violet with a soft woody scent is nice, there are just other perfumes I like more. Oh, and my husband doesn't like this one. He claimed it made the whole room smell like I forgot to through out the flowers and left them in a vase of now slimy water, old and musty, moldering, dusty, dry flowers in a vase of dirty water.

Testing blind, this opened as a fairly dusty and light powdery floral (which I should have picked up was violet) with elements of rosy soft wood and maybe leather. The powdery floral element has a nice light sweetness but dwindles down to essence while the warm wood becomes more prominent, and the funky like leather element plays more supportive role. By midday it develops into a rather dry and warm floral with hint essence of powder. It opens leaning feminine, and drifts into masculine, so I'd consider it unisex and adaptive. It isn't too powdery and the woodsy element feels it can hold up to a nice brute. (Just wait 20-30 min. before heading out). Looking at the notes now, the frankincense, cedar and labdanum, stretch out the complexity softly and are present but not overwhelming, still allowing the violet and rose to carry the fragrance through, while the green and powdery tones give a fuller body. While it feels versatile and fairly friendly (not so dirty) it does start to feel uninteresting in contrast to its namesake. To me it's mostly warm and fuzzy with an air if floral funkiness.

She's strong. A little too strong for me. I was really hoping for a violet centered fragrance, but it's buried under the Patchouli and Frankincense. Most definitely in the opening. Purple flowers and I usually get along really well, but this is more of a musky incense bomb in the dry down (on me), which is fine, but not what I'm looking for. It smells much better in the dry down, but it took well over an hour to get there and Patchouli is pretty hit or miss for me. If you like all those things, then you might like it. Maybe it'll grow on me eventually, but for now I'm not excited. Still, I really love that Heretic sells testers, and I'm glad I got to try it.

I am inconsolable, my disappointment in this perfume house is immeasurable.. I just got back from a boutique in Salem, MA that sells Heretic so I was able to test a bunch of different fragrances (never smelled Heretic prior to this) and I’m not even joking, all of them ranged from mid to bad! They definitely make more unusual atmospheric perfumes rather than good smelling ones. That being said, Dirty Violet was actually one of the “mid” ones. It reminds me of Morel Map by Clue but.. not as good lol.

Strong violet mixed with patchouli. Super strong and thick. Woody and a little musty. has a lot of similarities to nosferatu, I just think it smells warmer and woodier, with no petrichor notes.

The dry down for this is so gorgeous, but I cant get over how much it smells like an old lady's laundry in the first 30 minutes

No floral, just burnt patchouli. This was Smudge all over again but it didn't mellow down into anything bearable. Something about Heretic scents does NOT agree with my skin or my nose. Bad.

Earthy... musky... and absolutely disgusting. There's no hint of violet here at all. No powder, no floral. Just a migraine and regret. The quickest I've ever noped out on a scent.
