Dirty Violet

This is the first true unisex perfume I think I’ve owned. When you first spray this, it has a very sharp floral scent and almost herbal black tea type of thing. Once it dries more, it becomes this cozy sweet delicious soft warm sweater perfume. This smells like someone’s “house smell” in the best way, like books and hardwood floors, or when you borrow someone’s favorite leather jacket and deeply inhale and you can smell their old cologne on it. If you absolutely hate patchouli, I really don’t think you’ll like this, it’s pretty heavy and I can see someone thinking this is hippie-ish. To me it just smells natural and comforting. Floral, leathery, almost chocolatey or honey. This smells like Histoires de Parfums1969 without the rose. I would LOVE this on a man but it’s still feminine and soft. Very strong for a clean perfume, I would never guess it was. I could also see this being warn year round, but if I had to give it a season to describe its vibe, I would say winter and spring. Edit: my only complaint is that $165 for 50ml is wild. But, one spray of this is very strong and lasts for hours. So I guess it evens out a little. Still way too much money for barely 1.7oz

This was an instant love for me, not because it's a masterpiece, but because it fills its modest brief impeccably. Leather, violet, and patchouli is simple but it makes a statement. It's true that this more "Come hither" than the S&M "On your knees!" that the name and marketing suggests, but I do find it quietly sexy. The leather is a bit more raw and realistic than I expected based on the reviews. It's not quite animalic, but it's on the verge. The violet is also realistic, and has none of the girlish, candy-like qualities that violet perfumes can sometimes have. It's violet flowers crushed under the heel of a black stiletto. Sexy is relative, but this has a quiet, dark seductiveness to my nose. It whispers rather than screams, and to me, that's pretty alluring.

Starts off with leather, soft floral violets, a blast of quality patchouli and a bit of an animalic tinge, although that dissipates rather quickly. I'm sensing a bit of green ambrette here too, although I could be mistaken. It settles into soft violet leaf, powdery leather, and just a hint of sweet chocolate (perhaps from the patchouli) and amber-y vanilla, reminding me a bit of a softer version of Narciso Rodriguez for him. It's not necessarily weak, it's just that it sits very very close to the skin. Heretic isn't particularly known for loud fragrances anyway and, as I understand it, 100% natural perfumes don't project much either, save for perhaps an oud. It's certainly not a very unique or groundbreaking scent, but what I do love about Heretic is their commitment to naturals and quality ingredients, which makes endlessly smelling and searching through their fragrances for nuance of material quite enjoyable. Blood Cedar is my other favorite. Yet it is quite sexy; something about violet leaf + patchouli has a dominant energy to it. Combined with the powder and amber facets, I can see how it plays up contrasts of soft and hard, seductive and aggressive. A fitting homage to the collaborator and muse for this fragrance, Violet Chachki, who has frequently incorporated BDSM aesthetics into her drag.

I can see how someone would expect this to be a big, bold powerhouse scent, as I certainly did. I was thinking this would be like like Black Orchid with a violet twist, or something that would remind me of something succulent, pungent and purple smelling. Dirty Violet is nothing like this at all. While I was expecting something else, I am not disappointed. This is a polished violet leaf with leather beauty that creates a nice yin/yang of barbershop shave cream and very soft suede. Think more boardroom than bedroom as this would be fine to wear to work. I can see this on a man wearing a crisp white dress shirt and blazer, which can be sexy as hell too. If your mental image of Dirty Violet translates to whips, chains, and handcuffs and not something professional smelling, think outside the box a bit and you won't be dissapointed. Having a dirty mind mean a lot of things to a lot of people, so why not something soft, clean and refined? Dirty Violet is dirty fun in it's own special way.

This scent is a nighttime date with a gorgeous (gender neutral!) baddie in a vintage leather coat, listening to Etta James on a fleece blanket in the middle of the forest, surrounded by violet flowers and thinking you’re falling in love. Or maybe lust. You aren’t quite sure yet, but the date hasn’t ended yet, and you’re just going with the flow. You haven’t even asked them what their sign is yet. It’s delicate and sexy in a truly unisex way. The entire scent just feels *real*, earthy and authentic. You can definitely wear it day and night both but I think it shines better under the moonlight. I agree fully with the reviews that say it’s a subtle kind of seduction, not loud, but definitely still there, trailing in dark green and purple and sitting close to the skin. Darkly beautiful and palpable. Good stuff!

This scent is truly unisex and surprisingly addicting! I couldn’t stop smelling my arm and was quite sad that it faded so quickly. This is very complex and sexy. It’s a very bisexual fragrance. This would drive me wild on both men and women. Longevity and sillage suck, but this and Dirty Vanilla are the only two out of the discovery pack that I would ever consider shelling out for a bottle of.

tyleam's review really nails it. A powdery,earthy, dark floral. I like it - dark and sexy, but not too overpowering. Evokes memories of wearing a well-seasoned leather jacket, smoking cigarettes in a dark corner of a dive bar.

Heretic's description oversells this scent. Was expecting something scintillating and sinful, but it's just not that interesting. Top notes are leather, patchouli, vanilla which QUICKLY dry down to more leather and faint florals. It's not offensive or anything--just not the complex and bewitching fragrance I was promised.

This is one of the darkest fragrances I’ve smelled. The top notes are all leather, patchouli, and smoke. Very animalic and musty, and super strong. There is nothing herbal to enliven it and not much floral to lighten it. It lays on you like a dank black velvet fug. It’s pretty linear as the heart doesn’t change much, it maybe loses a little bit of the initial intensity but it remains a heavy and leathery scent. I detect almost nothing floral in these first few stages. After about 3 hours on the skin it becomes sweeter and a bit powdery. Dirty Violet is probably only for someone who really loves a dark chewy patchouli. It is masculine. It lasts about 7 hours on skin.

Disappointing. I sprung for a sample and it's really light. I was hoping for strong violet throbbing with lots of patchouli and maybe some woods they forgot to mention. Instead, there isn't that much violet and maybe some light forgetable suede. Absolutely not a traditional violet though; there is no Yardley violet or Penhaligon Violet or any of those gritty sweet violets many of us associate with the 1950's and loathe. And unfortunately no Caron Violet Precieuse either; that remains my gold standard on violet perfumes.

It reminds me of a small bar that lets you smoke inside in a sticky leather booth. It’s sticky and suffocating on me. I didn’t think it would be for me but decided to try it for a test on a whim. I could see this working better for a more masculine presence. If you like leather and a bit of danger it could really work for you.

I'm usually a patchouli fan but this was dark dank but have this soft headiness about it that was really overwhelming for me. I want to try it one more time when the weather gets cooler but I was very overwhelmed by it.

I just get a ton of frankincense, mixed with some sweetness. The frankincense overpowers everything else for me. It smells like church (if you are Catholic or Orthodox, you will get it). Not for me.

I personally find the scent quite interesting but it didn't last on me for more than 30 minutes/ one hour. Very disappointed about it especially given the price.

A spray of patchouli on a swatch of leather, delivered in a dirty ashtray. It's cool if you're into that, though. The dry down is more comfortable.

I don't care for it, especially not for a woman. It smells like my hippy dad. So if boomer old-man hippies are your thing, go for it!

It smells smokey and sweet to me... overwhelming... kinda sickening. I don't think I like patchouli.

Powdery floral leather with strong patchouli and hint of cigarette, linear throughout to my nose.

I love this one so much. It’s seductive, coquettish, yet sophisticated. My defining moment with it was when I was flirting with an achingly sexy man and he quite literally grabbed me by the shoulders and put his face to my neck and said I smelled incredible. I melted. I rarely spray it as I only have the one bottle. I don’t know why Heretic doesn’t add it to their permanent line as, i have to say, unfortunately, I’m not crazy about their other offerings. Great longevity—will imbue your favorite cashmere sweater. Powdery with some zing, tamed leather with some wisps of smoke.

If someone in Europe is willing to sell a decant or 2ml sample, I would be extremely grateful, I am looking everywhere for a sample but the brand doesn't ship outside USA and no other perfumery or website carries this limited edition. I am willing to accept any price and also decant some rarity from my collection, if you prefer an exchange.

Stunning opening! At first spray it's the driest violet in my olfactory experience. Heaven... then....Angel by Thierry Mugler... is that you? Nothing but Patch on the dry down. A very rich, expensive patch, but a patchouli bomb nonetheless. Will not be purchasing the full size.

Very very good. Recently found this gem, limited edition, which sucks. Can't get it again so i have to appreciate what i have. Beautiful, almost like a TRNP fragrance in terms of complexity. Longevity is very good, I'm surprised it is a natural.

I wanted a lot more violet in this. All I got was a heavy leather note and a little bit of floral. The dry down is especially unpleasant, it made me nauseous. I don’t see myself looking to try this one in the future.

Haven't smelled this, but let me say, nothing I have smelled by heretic has lasted longer then 90 minutes.
