Barénia Intense

2026 Bought: Barenia Intense Bottle Not we're talking. Intense is a very beautiful return to the classic Chypre and the longevity of our older perfumes. Non of this "Gone in 60 seconds" here, this lasts for at least 6 hours on oiled/moisturised skin. It's denser, yet sparkling at the beginning, fruity notes are super refined but darker, this is elegance, elegant but divine, narcotic to my nose, it's mesmerising. This was an instant buy for me, it reminded me of so many older perfume experiences and makes me very happy. The advert for the original should really be the advert for the Intense - that beautiful wealthy woman, in the dark plush brown riding gear and wearing a huge statement Hermes bracelet - everything about that image is this perfume. It was executed so well it kills me. Ignore all the perfume snobbery, even some of the independent solo written work is astonishingly ignorant, I weep at statements "and I am a connoisseur of niche".... oh Dear. I personally own insanely overpriced perfumes which are so called masterpieces which are underwhelming... just trust your nose and try it, but please, on heavily moisturised skin.. yes, nicely plumped up oiled skin for the ultimate ride of your life. WHAT SEASON? Oh I am wearing this during the heat wave in the UK May/June 2026 it's projecting exactly how I want it to, for MILES... this is ontop of Alien Body Cream and everyone wants to know what it is. Its just fruity dense and refined. I'd wear this all year, in fact I am curious to see how this works with Noir de Noir or Armaf Club Nuit Intense for Winter.... ah the possibilities! LAYERING Apologies to Hermes but Bath and Body Works INTO THE NIGHT Body cream under Barenia Intense is insane, it's intoxicating, its just sumptuous. Alien Body Cream also works wonders under Barenia Intense, makes it more sexy but lighter than Into The Night Zadig and Voltaire "This Is Really Her!" Is also an excellent pairing choice - it adds even more sparkle to the intensity of Barenia.

First off : I detest Patchouli. To me it's headache inducing, scratchy and somewhat Musty. With the Barenia line it hits different. It's smooth, tamed, giving depth. I like the original Barenia, but didn't love it. It took me nowhere, if you get what I mean. Barenia intense evoked something enveloping, taking up space in a good and comfortable sense. You instantly smell the soft, expensive leather accord and I do feel like there is still some miracle berry there, that gives that fragrance a juicy yet not sweet character. The Lilly gives a floral aura that it's captivating without being loud and demanding. Nothing is screechy with this scent. I don't get tired of it and I reach for it more than I thought it would. Fits most occasions where I want to be noticed, but don't want to be center stage. Wearing Barenia intense I feel grown up, sophisticated, bougie and assertive. As a psychiatric nurse I have to be assertive and authoritative. My patients found this scent was made for me and I admit out of all the hundreds of perfumes I currently own, this is the one I feel home with. Sillage is great. Without suffocating people it lingers in the air for several minutes. My hugs with friends transfer Barenia to them. They text me and tell me they still smell me at home . Projection is good, too. Better than other designer fragrances. After three spritzes, you WILL get noticed. Longevity is great. Up to 10 hrs on others for days. Price is good for what you get. Target group is most definitely quiet luxury and understated people. Grown up. This isn't a scent for young girls or men in my eyes. It's a scent that says :" I know who I am, I know my worth, and I can lead the pack if I need to." Definitely worth trying and sample.

In the fragrance community, a flurry of harsh reviews is sometimes a reliable "quality" indicator. When a fragrance does not hit the anchoring factors of mass-appeal and doesn't smell like a sugar-crusted dental office, those with a mature taste (age?) may recognize Barenia Intense for what it is: a gem, hiding in plain sight. Had Hermes slapped a Hermessence label on this and doubled (tripled?) the price, the "affiliate links gang" would be tripping over their samples to praise it. Instead, we get a designer release that makes the lackluster, grotesque offerings from their competitors look like department store slop. IMHO at this point, Christine Nagel is one of the few adults left in the room, elevating Hermes to a level of integrity that the rest of the designer's industry has abandoned. The scent profile is an example in linear construction. It opens with the miracle berry's sharp, non-sweet astringency - a refreshing slap of tartness - intertwined with a zesty ginger lily in parallel with a jasmine-adjacent vibrance for the first thirty minutes. Then, the leather arrives. It has the properties of an elegant suedey hide, anchored by a well composed combination of oakwood and slightly soapy patchouli that emerges in the dry down. Marketed as a feminine release? A tactical error for Hermes, but a win for me. I managed to snatch a bottle for dirt cheap. The competition was very scarce, but Barenia Intense was probably the best designer leather launch of 2025: refined, slightly carnal, and quite daring (within the designer landscape) considering the current zeitgeist. I have and love the original Barenia, and have been anxious to get my nose on the intense version, even though I find the performance of the original to already be impressive. Walking home from work the other day, I kept getting wafts of Barenia, which really perplexed me, because I had not put Barenia on that day, or even in the few days prior, but it was SO present. How?! Then I discovered, in my pocket - a smelling strip from a recent trip to Douglas on which I'd sprayed the new Barenia intense :-) I wasn't sure I'd care for it as much, since it's missing the berry note, but I loved it just as much and immediately knew I wanted to buy it as soon as I finish the original. But the fact that -- from just a smelling strip in my pocket -- the scent projected that strongly - and after a few days??!! I'm thoroughly impressed and can't wait to add this potent and beautifully autumnal version of Barenia to my collection! SOO well done!!! One last funny detail I forgot to add: I let my dog smell the test strip, as he noticed it in my hand and was very intrigued :-) Unlike all the perfumes I've let him sniff in the past, he not only did not recoil, but continued sniffing, as if he liked it?! Perhaps, beyond the dog collar inspired bottle design, there is something in the juice that honors our canine friends? ;-)

BARENIA the OG was great... But the Intense version is fantastic 👌 It made its way into my top 3 most perfumes right now... meaning it is so addictive to me that I consistently forego many other options to wear it again, on repeat ... Christine Nagel made a fragrance that if presented under a niche perfume brand would have the whole community buzzing... but alas, this is just Hermes ;) COMPARED to the lighter, airy OG - the Intense is a denser, deeper, more satisfying scent. And subsequently longer lasting/projecting as well. Still prominent in tangy "berry" accord and gorgeous patchouli - but with a touch more of leather accord. As a leather scent lover (my faves being Le Lion and Coromandel) - I would welcome a bit more of it, esp considering that Hermes is a house that is legendary in the leather related craftsmanship. And RE previous comment RE “milking” - this is a term that doesn’t characterize Barenia per se as the Intense version is only only second one made, and has already proven itself to be different and iteration worthy... even if subjectively thats not your thing. I for one am super excited to see what Christine did with this new - more floral? - Barénia Pleine Fleur 2026 version...

★★★★★ Remember the 90s and 00s how elegance and quality were dominating the market? Romanticism and mystery in perfumery was mainstream and brands strived for original ideas, new pillars, scents supporting a whole vibe and lifestyle. Well, this perfume takes me back to those times. While the original Barénia was a pleasant surprise for me, this intense version has more body and character that finally made me realise that it is still possible in present times to get mysterious and original perfumes. This is a pastel colored chypre with a subtle floral background, a woody depth and almost a honeyed quality (which I am not sure how was achieved based on the listed notes). The end result is a powerful blend that exudes effortless elegance and personality. Do you remember those times before the information overload of the internet, the endless fast production, the lazy concept creation and cheap marketing? Barénia is here to remind us all.

On my skin it's leather and honey, sexy, strong and absolutely androgynous, feminine in a "dominatrix" way, if not masculine, a real bold uncompromising chypre. I'm sure it could be targeted for both men and women if only Hermes wanted to launch another unisex fragrance. I'm a big fan of another Christine Nagel classic (sadly discontinued), Fendi Theorema, and it also appeals to me, a man, being a woman's perfume. I believe there is something special about Christine's nature and the way she creates that makes her fragrances attractive for both sexes, and I appreciate it. I'm seriously thinking about Intense for myself, just need to be sure that my first impressions are not misleading. P.S. Now I have my bottle and love to inhale this mature, comforting and sensual scent each and every time.

OMG! This scent is amazing! Sexy, Seductive, Classy and addictive scent. The first time I smelled it, it reminded me of My Burberry Black (kind of fruitchouli..., amber..) but this one is much much deeper and more characters. It's very smooth blend, sweet fruits or honey mixed with leather and a hint of wood in the background. But when I sprayed it on my skin, it smelled even better, with the woody and leather notes becoming much more PROMINENT, smells like wine. The scent is very long-lasting and has good sillage. I think it's perfect for any season but it'll be the best in cold weather. It might remind you of other scents, but it's definitely unique. And most importantly, it smells incredibly luxurious, like you're super rich. It's so good. mfg: 2023

Love this stuff. Boozy, tart, juicy but not sweet, lovely well-used leather throughout, super smooth patchouli I actually really like (that's saying something). To my nose it has quite an opening volley, an almost smoky bitterness - but that very quickly dissipates and reveals the classy, deep scent that keeps on giving throughout the day and evening (1 spray!). I would say Barenia Intense is as ballsy as it is elegant, both grounded and slightly haughty, and definitely grown-up. So glad I asked for a tester vial, because for a high flyer like this (Barenia Intense would suit Amelia Earhart I imagine) it has a bit of a low profile. I will get my bottle very soon and wear this quite often.

What is undoubtfully stunning about this creation is the fact that both OG and Intense are at the same time very similar and very different. It is a true mastery to extract such a nuance from a fragrance - a tiny piece of difference that would create a whole new universe and polarization among buyers. Personally I’m team Intense. The OG was interesting but too piercing and sour for me. It starts off bold and courageous but then hits the flat zone, with no further development. The Intense version brings me the smoothness I wanted in the original Barenia. Both fragrances are definitely worth trying out - you need to pick your favourite nuance yourself.

I sprayed it on my arm at the airport, liked it and bought this to take home with me. After 1.5 hours drive and arrived home, it was still there very loud. I unpacked my bags, do some light chorus of home around half hour, it was still there strong. I was getting more impressed, hit the shower around looong 20 minutes very bubbly dried my hair and even long shower couldnt take it from the skin. Edit from day after: I can still smell this on my arm this morning, Intense is forever long. So pleasent. so rich. Strong and light same time. Woody, relaxing sophistique scent.

Is very similar to the original, but unbelievable better, how come? I don't know, just automatically on my wish list, no shadow of doubt that I want😂 I can't get enough of Barénia, is magical, mesmerizing ❤️ Update: While Barénia original heal me when I'm in pain (happened sometimes already) Barénia Intense make me laugh, I don't know Why but instantly when I applies it on my skin and smell I start to smile and even laughing and can't understand...lol does sounds weird but is real, does anyone else experience this? I did mix with BR 540 and yes, very wonderful 😊

This is a modern day powerhouse Chypre fragrance reminiscent of my childhood growing up in the 80’s 90’s where you could smell mother a mile away dowsed in the strongest Estée Lauder fragrances, Aromatics and the likes. This fragrance however brings that type of scent into the modern world with a gorgeous tobacco note dominating in the background. It lives up to its name Intense, it sure is. Lasts forever and projection is mega!! I absolutely fell in love with this by chance in Cannes airport and just had to have it! My first Hermes fragrance.

This is so stunning. I bought a big bottle of the original last year after smelling it and love that, but I hadn’t tried the intense version until now. I’m afraid my big, almost-full bottle just became redundant... I fear I need this one instead. It’s all my favorite parts of the original turned up and fleshed out. It’s a perfect fall scent to me. This one is a little more unisex-leaning than the original and a little darker. If you’re new to the scent, be sure to try both.

This is a beast! 2 sprays of this on my hair and neck lasted 3 days, and I can still smell it. My room and car smelt like it for a few hours too. This is gorgeous, elegant and unique. Very simple yet round, fresh, smooth. The patchouli is strong but not sharp at all. The whole composition has this honey-like sweet note with a hint of anise (notes that are not listed, but to my nose they are somehow there). Soooo beautiful, it's so strong without being too much. Love it!

Brilliant! I actually prefer it over the original and the performance is outstanding. There's no harsh or overpowering leather here; instead, it feels refined and elegant, beautifully blended with more woods than the previous version and that same gorgeous Ginger Lily note. It’s elegant, unique, distinctive, and effortlessly sophisticated... and wonderfully unisex. So far, Shalimar L'Essence and Barénia Intense are my top fragrance purchases of 2025.

Holy moly, leather where? I was so scared when I read the notes on this one but one smell... Wow! I expected overwhelming and cloy as heck but no, this is a bottle you’ll find me smelling over and over just the bottle itself... I might actually be falling all together for Hermès... I expected this to be male when I read the description so I was thinking oh well it will be a nice little bottle to have on the shelf but... now I need a big one...

Beautiful perfume. I've smelled it a few times in store and on testers and immediately fell in love. Today I wore it for the first time on my skin and I was surprised by the sweetness. Honey was the strongest individual note I felt I could detect but I don't remember it smelling particularly sweet in previous tests. Either way there's something very special about this. Obsessed

A modern fruity chypre done beautifully. There’s a tart, slightly sour fruitiness at the start that feels elevated and sophisticated, not sweet. Patchouli and woods come through adding a subtle smoky touch that deepens the vetiver and woody notes. It’s enchanting, super long-lasting, and just feels very polished and grown-up. While I prefer niche fragrances for creativity, a lot of them are not easy to wear (I mean, you have to be mindful of where you are going and/or the audience). I liked OG Barenia, but this one was a love from the first sniff, and it is getting rarer and rarer these days. Barenia Intense smells like a wearable niche, it smells sophisticated and rich.

When I smell this I visualize the restaurant in The Bear right after they renovate and reopen in season 2. Warm lighting, the strong scent of wood and maybe a dry white wine, with a faint whisper of someone else's perfume or cologne as they walk by. This isn't my type of fragrance in the slightest, so I won't be purchasing. But I do appreciate it.

This oak is strong......its sweeet...unique but weird somehow...waiting for the drydown... Interesting Winter only perfume It's strong strong The drydow proofs that Hermes is always worth the money spent. It's sexy..and projects ..calming yummy indi scent If you want to feel unique and stand out P.s. this should be vegan.

oh my, this smells like my dream wife - out of nowhere this absolutely gorgeous fragrance has made me feel lonely af 😭😭 an incredible mix of narcotic florals, berries and leather with a boozy touch and a sublime musk accord that screams of french perfumery. honestly one of the best female fragrances i have ever smelled!

Barenia EDP Intense is one of the House of Hermes's masterpiece perfumes. I am really appreciating the first spray on my skin. It's a mysterious, elegant, deep, and unique modern Chypre perfume, as if a fine niche perfume. I love the animalic scent that might come from the leather note or the butterfly lily.

No brain, just automatically on my wish list. Must be amazing. Let's see❤️ Wait🤔 did they took off Miracle berry notes?? This is the first fragrance I've been excited about for a long time, from my first spray in Fenwick's I knew I needed it. I would bathe in it if I could and just adore it. It smells sexy and classy, something I aspire to be but fall short, this lifts me up just enough to feel more confident when I walk.

Its a bitter scent and it changes into something else which I cant decide how I could describe the scent. I love it. I usually hate leather but I was surprised to see it has leather cause it doesnt smell anything like leather. Its just a great scent for everyday love it.

absolutely love it. thinking about turning it into my night signiture scent. when i first smelled it smelled like grape juice about to become wine, with lots of woody notes. elegant, unique, complex, elevated. the best hermes scent i have tried.

Well.. it's Barènia, for men. It still has that Ginger Lily DNA, that honeyed florals on the top. But it has undertones of leather, licorice, patchouli and spices. It tend very dark, but feels ultra sophisticated. Lasts for ages

I tried this today and loved it! I’m definitely buying a bottle. I seemed to get a honey note from it but maybe I was influenced by the colour of the bottle. Marketed for women but I think totally unisex

Omg, this is such a wonderful fragrance! I have received so many compliments. This is quite intense and lasts 10-12 hours.

Ellie Saab Royal is cheaper version from this ...barenia is still more classy...could be vegan tho

French chic! Such a wonderful daytime fragrance...

Well, some of us saw this coming, and some of us should have held out for this flanker before buying the original, because this is what Barénia should have been all along. (Some of us also hate this recent trend wherein the pillar launch feels almost deliberately incomplete so as to justify a flanker to be released the following year like clockwork, but whatever.) The original Barénia is a charismatic, colorful fruitchouli (sorry..."chypre") that's admirably restrained in its sweetness and feels like the refinement of an idea that probably didn't need the Hermès treatment, but it works. What Barénia lacks, though, is a compelling finish after the opening fireworks fade. It doesn't fall apart or anything, but the back half is less interesting than the front. Barénia Intense works better over the course of a long wear, bolstering the original's tart berries and silky white florals with surprisingly smoky woods, a dusky rose accord, and a patchouli that feels much richer, more natural, more right than its predecessor. I salute. Maybe full-bodied patchouli and fruit is a harder sell than it was in the 2000s, but if you're going to go down this particular road, you might as well go all the way. That said, Barénia Intense is too clever to veer into heavy or lugubrious territory. The shot-through-with-sunlight quality of the original is one of its standout characteristics, and this flanker keeps that buoyant signature intact. It's very good, and I'm happy to own it. But please let this be the last one; the tune is in danger of overstaying its welcome, and my ears need a break.

Reviewing both the Intense and the EDP: I was intrigued by the EDP when it came out, however I could not decide how I felt about it after purchasing it and wearing it a couple of times in cool summer days. It is to me very citrus fruity - in a good crispy way without being sticky sweet, and it is very woody too. It felt too heavy and “warm” to be worn on even slightly warm weather, yet it lacks the depth in texture for it to be worn in cold weather. The Intense feels just right for cold weather - it is still woody and citrus fruity, but it also has a slight smokiness (in texture, not in scent) that makes it perfect for winter. Both EDP and Intense are clearly recognisable as coming from the same perfume creation, so if you do not like one, you will probably not like the other. However it is possible to have preference between the two - for me it is the Intense for sure.

The original Barénia fell flat for me, a disappointment from a house of such greatness like Hermès. The new Intense I must say is a definite improvement, however I’m not sure what’s going on with the note breakdown as it’s not reflective of the smell at all. This scent retains the profound sweet tartness of that juicy miracle berry accord, which is not listed here. This nondescript sour fruitiness is matched with a dry earthy vetiver/patchouli finish. It has a distinct fizzy effect which makes the whole thing sparkle; a unique execution on the modern fruity-Chypre. I like it, much more than the original that’s for sure. It’s not a love, just because that fruitiness can be a bit much at times, but I’m glad to see a vast improvement over the original, lacking offering.

A flanker of madam nagels greatest achievement in my opinion obviously I mean the previous iteration But this one wasn’t as great or grand as the previous one The overdose of patchouli and fake oud made it more woody and damp than the original I even felt the fruity note in the opening of the original not so present here Yes it performed and projected very well But the original is what I truly need What madam Nagel did was take the scent to more masculine territory and she succeeded Although personally I didn’t like it I encourage the gentleman if they felt the original to be more feminine leaning to give this one a chance In conclusion I have the original and it’s all I need right now.....good but not good enough

If you are wondering how intense this is, I sprayed it on a test strip and put it in the back pocket of my jeans. Hours later I was wondering what smelt so good. At night I hung my jeans up and went to bed, I could still smell it in the room. Only in the morning when I was tidying I realised the smell was this test strip in my pocket. The sillage is impressive and long lasting! I have a tester of the original barenia, I would like to try them both on different days before I decide which I prefer. I do keep going back to smell the test strip, it's a wonderful scent.

It is very leather-fizzy patchouli-white ginger lily. High pitched and restrained. In style it reminds me of a simpler Coco by Chanel. The first one was uneventful, this one has personality. The blend is similar also to Gucci by Gucci eau de toilette. The ones missing it should check Barenia Intense out. Meliora by Parfums de Marly is similar, too, but lighter. Blotter test.

The scent of a Classics PhD student, the rooftops of Brussels, fitted tweed blazers, playing chess while drinking wine, Turkish rugs in every room, freshly printed manuscripts on the private study's desk, Van Morrison on vinyl, a crescent moon and candlelight.

I was very excited to try this as I find the original quite intriguing. It is definitely the same scent profile but a bit denser, deeper, if that makes sense. I have to say that I prefer the sharper more sparkling quality of the original. Really unisex.

30. August 2025 First tried it on a blotter, then on skin and my colleage thought it was a male fragrance, and i agree, that a man can wasily pull it off as well. The reason why i believe tjis version is more unisex, is because the patchouli, wood mix is very strong here. Difficult to explain, but this intense version feels less loud, than original, yet more cozy. At first it is really sweet, yet after a while it becomes to smell a lot of very "dirty" patchouli, like a wet mud, this is when itend to dislike it, but still can pull it off. After few hours is when i like it the most, feels like the softest sweater on your skin. This version is more suitable for colder time of the year, than the original. I dont really smell any strong leather note, if it is there, then it is very subtle or just does not come up on my skin, but could be well noticed on someone else.

Barenia Intense, which I sampled in a magazine (The NYT Style magazine, to be precise), is one of those masterful creations that reminds me I am a patchouli sissy. The comparisons to Coromandel strike me as valid, only the Chanel is more of a spicy amber, and this is more of an austere, old-school, uncompromising leather chypre. I am also picking up on some leathery spices that aren't my favorites on skin (cumin, saffron, possibly). I admire this Nagel creation without wanting a bottle myself. I do recommend it if you have a big hole in your collection that is crying out for a big, in-your-face, patchouli-driven leather chypre. It doesn't smell like a leather handbag, and it also doesn't smell like skin (as promised by the magazine ad with the butch-looking fashion model). It smells like what it is: an expensive French chypre.

Shoppers Drug Mart (Canadian) finally has a tester. Whereas Barenia was piercing and sour, Intense was woody-patchouli and more masculine-leaning but softer in presentation. Had I sprayed Intense on my skin rather than OG, I may have found a better match as it would not have overpowered me. There are people who ramble on but I imagine this on a person who patiently delivers a more thoughtful, assured opinion. Classy, confident, uncomplicated. One spray on me: Sillage: less than arm's length Longevity: 3-5 hours Rating: 3/5 but may change after another test run

Barenia is my signature scent. I was incredibly excited about this one. I ordered the decant as soon as I could, but it was a complete let down for me. Yes, it's similar to Barenia edp, but it feels like the fresh, sparkling essence of the edp has been lost. The leather note was quite intrusive at the opening. Afterward, the leather note stick to my nose, and I felt like I couldn't get through the fragrance's beloved, beautiful notes. I think Barenia is a masterpiece. Therefore, any future flankers seems unnecessary to me.

I find this perfume to be at the nexus of everything and yet, it takes me no where. There are both feminine and masculine profiles, both warm and cool elements, both modern and vintage vibes; however, it doesn’t seem to embrace anything in particular. Every perfume that I have, albeit a small collection, either takes me to a certain place in time or makes me feel something. To me, Barénia just smells nice, perfectly neutral, and that’s about it. Perhaps, I’m just not its intended audience.

I much prefer the normal Barenia. This one has something in the base making me slightly nauseous, and lacks the delightful top notes in Barenia. Update: the drydown is nice, very subtle and enigmatic, but I'm still not sure I can work with the opening. Another update: yeah no. It just drones on for hours and hours. The only thing going for it is the longevity but I don't like the scent enough to want it to last this long.
