Eau d'Orange Verte

Ahh freshly cut tomato stems and juicy, sour, and bitter oranges. Funny enough, nowhere do I see anyone of an official capacity describing the notes of this classic EdC as having a tomato leaf/stem accord. Hermes says it should smell of orange, mint, and woody notes of moss. A couple websites (you know the ones) also include lemon, papaya, mango, cassis, and patchouli, depending upon where you look. Is this a good sign? I think so; I think it says that Francois Caron's masterful 1979 creation is (was?) so unique that no one can or could quite agree as to what it does. I certainly smell lemon and orange, and as it dries down a very light and airy patchouli does seem to come through (in older formulations this was likely oakmoss, before the heavy hand of our overlords said we couldn't be trusted with our own health), but I still get this overall accord of freshly cut tomato stems. No matter. This is a most invigorating, revitalizing perfume that never fails to put a big smile on my face as it perfectly transports me to a beautiful fruit and vegetable garden on the Mediterranean coast in Southern France where I sit on a chaise under an umbrella, caressed by the warmth of the orange afternoon sun, sipping an ice cold lemonade and eating cherry tomatoes with olive oil and fresh herbs. I am no stranger to summer freshies as my perfume collection will show, and of the enormous number I have tried this is still one of my all-time favorites. Drawbacks? Well, some will say that it is very short-lived to the point of being disappointing and not full-bottle-worthy, and I have to say that criticism is valid; it is unusually short-lived, even for an EdC. Older formulations likely last longer. I need to try one. However, if you wear it in warm balmy weather, and since by relative standards it is quite cheap, go hog-wild with it - douse your skin, clothes, and hair in it and - guess what - it lasts just long enough. Besides, you'll want to reapply it anyway, no matter what, to get one more hit of that gorgeous bitter orange and tomato stem at the top. In fact, I think I'm going to put some more on right now.

It is one of the most amazing scents I've ever tried. When I first saw it in this series of scents I was not interested because how can the smell of orange be a part of something that I would enjoy? I do like the real orange as a fruit but as a note in a scent... I'm not sure. Because I've had an awful experience with a shower gel once that had this as one of the notes. Then it happened that I saw some shower gels available in an online shop and since this was the only one from Hermès, I thought: whatever it is, even if I don't like it, no problem for a tiny bottle of a shower gel. It turned out that the smell in that little bottle was absolutely amazing! There is something that reminds orange (it's certainly not the orange itself but something similar) plus bitter green. It is so good that I left a little bit of shower gel in that bottle and just sniff it from time to time. Then I decided to get a decanted tester, bigger than usual and I can say it is the same smell but as a scent, it is much weaker. If somebody really likes this smell, get that little bottle of shower gel and you will have a 10x stronger/perfume extrait version to sniff if you want. I also happened to have a tester of a copy of this scent: Perfume Parlour, Citrusy See You 0528. This one behaves differently but is quite similar to the EdOV, it is stronger too, lasts a bit of longer and also, in this copy I didn't smell any disturbing component as I have smelt in some other PP's testers. It is worth testing for those interested in this type of scents and want to get something cheaper.

I utterly adore this, I truly love it, and it makes me so, so sad! From the opening spray this is photorealistically natural, like peeling an orange whilst walking through a citrus grove that has fresh mint plants growing around the base of the trees. Beautiful, delicate, utterly gorgeous! The sad part? By the time I get to the front door, most of the aura of the scent has disappeared, and almost by the time I get to the end of the street it has become a skin scent. Of course, by the time I'm half way through my walk, I am only able to smell it if I breathe gently on the skin to warm the few remaining latent molecules and then bury my nose against it. The obvious and only solution is to buy a 200ml bottle and carry it with me, topping up with at least eight more sprays at regular five minute intervals to keep getting my fix, but this too is a source of great sadness, as my bank balance will not withstand this sort of onslaught for very long, and thus far the winning euromillions ticket continues to elude me. If anyone knows of a layering scent that would latch this to my skin for any serious length of time without destroying the beauty of the scent, or knows the whereabouts to the winning euromillions ticket and is feeling decidedly unselfish and generous, please do get in touch and you shall make me a very happy man indeed!

Eau d Orange Verte. I've been wanting to comment on this for some time now, after I tried the whole line of EDC, the concentrated one, the shower gel, the body lotion and the deodorant, either on their own or combined. I have read the complaints about the lack of longevity and sillage of this fragrance. Well, it is supposed to be a light, citrus fragrance and as such it contains minimal synthetics or chemical compounds (something that makes the shower gel very aggreable to dry skins) which in other fragrances give longevity and sillage. Personally, I can smell this fragrance until the next day. Lightly, I must admit, but it stays on my skin and on my clothes and people who come close enough to me can smell it. So, to sum things up: either product, from the whole line, on its own is not enough to make you smell for a long time. But the combination of shower gel, non-scented body lotion or cream and the concentrated EdOV, sprayed on strategical spots on you body can give longevity that lasts many hours (and, thus, avoid spending too much money on this beautiful but expensive fragrance). If you are into heavy, complicated, fragrances, forget this one, because your nose will forget it fast. Forgive me if I said too much on this fragrance but I love it.

My oh my, how this one blew me away! What a beautiful creation. It’s absolutely reminiscent of times past but I feel that I have no problem pulling it off today. I typically only wear older fragrances at home as I feel like I can fully appreciate them whereas others may not. This one I wear out wherever and whenever. It has this old school comfort to it which kind of reminds me of Eau Sauvage. Very heavy in the citrus right of the top yet a little more herbal smelling than Eau Sauvage which to me is more lemony sweet. Another thing that makes me think of Eau Sauvage is that oak moss hanging in the background. Scent wise this is a 10/10! The biggest downside to me is how it performs. It doesn’t last long at all. I knew that I should expect it since I have and love Eau de Citron Noir which also has pretty bad performance. It’s an EDC. If you’re willing to spend the money on it with all of this in mind, you won’t regret it! I hear the concentré version is better in performance . There is something to really be appreciated about this one. Not everything needs to last forever!

Damn! This is sooooo goooood! Yes, performance is less than adequate but, I can give two shits. This is just an amazingly realistic burst of orange & green zing to it that is just breathtaking from the start. Delicious & mouthwatering for those first few minutes that actually brings a sensation of cooling and freshness that's to die for. Jean Claude Elena produced a masterpiece that though is lacking in the performance department is still an amazing creation. Simple yet heavenly and worth every single penny. I purchased a 200ml. heavily discounted Flacon w/sprayer in the Concentre version from a fragrance discounter. Truth be told, I'd still pay full retail for it that's how beautiful, sophisticated and unassuming this fragrance is. This is one's personal oasis on those hot, humid and full on sun days where the grin from ear to ear just hurts my face. Maybe 4-5 hours of life but, totally worth it. Not everything has to be eternal in the fragrance realm. Love it!!! Bravo Jean Claude Elena & Hermès! Bravo!!

Beautiful, traditional Eau de Cologne that suites modern times. Eau d'Orange Verte is an updated take for the brand's own interpretation for Eau de Cologne from the 70's, and my my what lovely results. If one considers the abundant selection of traditional Eau de Colognes currently available on the market, Eau d'Orange Verte is a wonderful option. It balances good quality, well built formula with comforting, clean, mossy dry-down at a relatively (for Hermes) affordable price tag. If you're not up for dropping 200-400 euros on the uber-exquisite takes from Chanel (Exclusiif line Eau de Cologne), Dior (Cologne Royale), Tom Ford (Neroli Portofino) and on the other hand don't feel like splashing on the 'cheapies' and more 'harsh' smelling alternatives - Eau d'Orange Verte is the thing for you. I got by mail my second 400ml(!) bottle two days ago, and this is rejoice. Do yourselves favour and check out the ancillary products of this cologne. The shower gel smells oh-so-fresh.

I'm aware that, much like Mugler Cologne, Eau d’Orange Verte is a fragrance of simplicity. This minimalism is a characteristic element of Jean-Claude Ellena's style. However, these perfumes positively radiate with greenery and citrus. They're juicy and distinctly orange, with undeniable cooling properties. I've also read about their similarity to Eau d’Hadrien by Annick Goutal. Currently, I'm not familiar with the composition created by Isabelle Doyen, but if that changes, I'll certainly address the comparison in an appropriate review. Nonetheless, I can wholeheartedly recommend Eau d’Orange Verte to anyone seeking a breath of fresh air in the summer heat (these perfumes are suitable for both women and men). Furthermore, I'd like to remind you that the third and final part of this mini-series is still ahead, featuring a fragrance from the truly top shelf. Are you curious? My rating: Highly recommended! I used to have a pile of Hermes Eau d'Orange Vert mini bath products that I always added my travel bags for about a year or so, so this scent throws me back to many happy and dynamic trips, especially to Italy. And somehow it works really well in shower gels and lotions- the longevity of the scent is great on the skin. As EdC, the scent is more multifaceted of course, and more rewarding. I get a bitter orange rind with mint at first and soon after fragrant blackcurrant leaves that are used in pickling cucumbers in my national cusine. Fresh blackcurrant leaves are some of the most under the radar gems, really gorgeous and imo make this scent to what it is - a unique supremely refreshing herbal aromatic with a touch of bitter orange. Mossy and earthy base supports the longevity... and weirdly it all really works be it summer or winter. I really need to stock up on both the EdC and showergels/lotions again.

Yes, Eau d'Orange Verte is (arguably) overpriced and lasts about as long as it'll take you to read this paragraph, but I'm never without a bottle. It's a burst of summer holiday chic on a dreary winter morning, a practical refresher on a muggy midday, a one-size-fits-all bit of luxury aromatherapy, and a perfectly modern freshie with a bowler cap tipped to the past. Crisp orange with a verdant halo, covered by the merest dusting of patchouli and moss. Classy and elegant in that indefinable Hermès way, EdOV is the good kind of retro, so colorful and fresh that it handily avoids feeling dated. I'm curious about the Concentrée version, though I've heard from more than one source that the scent itself isn't as good as the original despite better lasting power. Whatever. I'll keep spraying this stuff all over my body and clothes like a madman, accept what I cannot change, and thank heaven for discounters.

so darn beautiful and as everyone wrote,the opening doesnt last long.the salty orange,leafy green opening doesnt last long.it is an awesome opening but the dry down is what ts all about for me anyway.sandalwood?doesnt anybody smell sandalwood?if not then i am mistaken but i do smell wood of some sort and a wonderful wood in fact.this is my first hermes and am tickled pink.sprayed on last night before bed and still smell it in the morning so a decent skin scent.the skin scent starts at about an hour after spraying for me and that is a killer for most.would i recommend buying?you wont be mad but you will be wondering why hermes made an awesome perfume so weak.yeah i can still smell it on me so i wont complain about this 7 yr.old beauty.BTW i could feel my lips numbing a bit just like when i peel and orange with teeth when i smelled it close.made me chuckle.

Eau D’Orange Verte, originally named Eau de Cologne D’Hermès from its release in 1979 (or 1953 under Edmond Roudnitska) up until 1997, was the first commercial success of Françoise Caron; sister of Olivier Cresp. The current offering stands as a re-imagining by Jean-Claude Ellena, and is utterly sublime. It follows a classical cologne-style structure, centred around bitter, yet refreshing citruses, counterbalanced by a pronounced green and mossy base. The orange, as expected, is the most prominent note, with its tart citric sharpness furthered by lemons and mint. The moss on the other hand, has been made bitter, leafy and almost sour with cassis. The original composition is said to have an unexpected sweetness from pineapple and mango, which I certainly do not detect here. As it stands, this is a stunning rendition of a typically French eau de cologne.

Very fresh, citrusy, vegetal and humid like some elevated wet lightly rubbed lemongrass. A generous giant zest. Gentle and sharp at the same time, very positive. Present but only for a short while, not overwhelming or cloying in any way. My grandfather used to spray himself a couple of times every morning after shaving. He was a discrete, elegant man who stayed loyal to this ritual as far as I remember him. The expression “faire sa toilette” makes perfect sense here. I have one small bottle that I wear occasionally with quiet excitement. I feel like this is something to wear for emphasising your own mood and enthusiasm rather than to impress anyone since it doesn’t stay long on the skin and has a moderate projection. It’s just a beautiful, really well executed scent and will seduce all those who love citrus.

What can I say about a perfume I’ve been using for almost 10 years? It’s really hard to review something that’s become a part of my life.. to me, it IS the scent of summer. Citrusy? Yes, but more like orange peel than juicy fruit. Herbaceous and aromatic, even a bit creamy in some odd bitter way in the background and that bitterness is just perfect. It's mossy, sharp, clean, cooling. You don’t really smell mint directly, but it gives that cooling effect, perfect for heatwaves like the one we’re having today. For me, it’s nostalgic too. It brings back memories of carefree summer mornings by the sea, that freshness before the crowds, when you can still smell nature, mediterranean herbs and soil and you can feel a cool breeze on your skin. Unobtrusive, clean, natural - that's all you need sometimes. <3

I first got a whiff of this when I was staying in a hotel in Paris in 2013. The bathroom toiletries were all Hermes d'Orange Verte. I used the shampoo and conditioner before going shopping. Every time the wind blew through my hair, everyone behind me complimented me on my "perfume". The next day I used the body wash and lotion. I was hooked!!!! I stocked up on the ones from the hotels during our travels and used them "sparingly" because I didn't want to run out too soon. Fast forward 8 years. I found the the Concentre and Toilette at a reasonable price and purchased both of them. The Concentre is closer to the fragrance I remembered, but the Toilette is just lighter. I am a woman and I don't feel the scent is masculine on me, just fresh and joyful.

Top 3 fragrances I currently use. It's a perfect light daytime smell. Fresh and alive with punchy orange, held back by a musky citrus that sits 'warm' on me personally. I have the body wash and cream, and they are great and make the bathroom smell luxurious and welcoming! There is a downside...it really doesn't last long, or get any compliments - like my acqua di parma colonia essenza - I literally get stopped in the street with that on! You really need to spray lots to get any real purchase, and this obviously makes the bottle go quicker. There is a concentrate version, but it's very expensive - it's an alternative if you want it popping more I suppose! All round lovely fragrance with a timeless scent that evokes happy vibes, and positive energy!

The first version of Eau d'Orange Verte dates from 1979 and was created by Françoise Caron. Jean-Claude Ellena revisits this water, adding nuances, for a more in-depth 2009 edition that offers more outfits. When the warm seasons come, it’s one of those fresh classics I love to wear. A water that offers an instant "pschit" of freshness. The notes of green citrus are well worked and accentuated by the blackcurrant bud. The notes are both green, zesty and almost powdery. Here, the addition of oak moss is subtle and remains pleasant to my nose. The hold is not long. Renew a "pschit" of freshness is necessary throughout the day. A renewal mechanism that does not tire me! Unisex water. For children of age, it is even very nice to have the first water...

This became an instant favourite of mine that will always have a place in my wardrobe. The lemony-orange make a big and bright opening that smoothly transitions to a green, herbaceous, earthy body. This fragrance leans mint, oakmoss, and patchouli-heavy on my skin. A fragrance that works all-year round but is undeniably perfect for the warmer weather. I have enjoyed wearing this in the fall thanks to the big, earthy dose of patchouli, and the orange notes make it approachable even in the winter in my opinion. A true love of mine.

Pure, fresh, clean and chic. No surprises there, what you see is pretty much what you get - a burst of citrus that dries down to a lovely woody scent, subtly lifted by the mint and by something else that I can best compare to the smell of underripe mango. Another reviewer said this smelled expensive, and I agree: it smells put-together, professional, and elegant. You can't go wrong wearing this. Note: I'm a woman and this was my signature daytime perfume for two years. In my opinion it's perfectly unisex.

After slinging the Charlie Red I tried this morning to furniture and bed freshener corner, I turned to a little bottle of this offering by Hermes I've used before. It has a lovely fresh orange tree fragrance; slightly zingy in a green way and woody. I love it to feel fresh when I am unwell. Longevity isn't great but it is an eau de cologne. Good for a freshen up any time of year, in any climate. I can see it would be lovely in a hot, humid climate; one which I'm most acquainted.
