Equipage Geranium

The dry-down smells like the vintage Equipage. I agree with Colin Mailard that Hermes makes the best designer fragrances. Equipage Geranium could be in the Frederic Malle collection. It is close to a masterpiece in how beautifully blended it is. The rosewood and pepper accord, stunning. This may have some unlisted musc. It reminds me of Musc Ravageur by Frederic Malle, same vib, but this is better. This is one of those fragrances that was challenging at first, then it becomes a favorite! Vintage Equipage has been my favorite classic, this is more modern, but still has a beautiful rosewood, and floral aspects, yet stays very masculine. My signature frag now. I can't believe people haven't discovered how great this is. It's better than my top niche fragrance, mostly. I'm acquiring a taste for the spiciness. Some of my very favorite frags were challenging at first. The sharp spicy opening was too much at first; never liked very spicy frags like Spice Bomb. But now I like the sharp spicy opening that does settle after 5 minutes. It then settles to a soft and fresh spiciness, reminding me more of the original Equipage. I recommend reading Colin Mailard's review towards the end here. He uses words like sharp, herbal, edgy, dry, spicy. Those are the best adjectives for this, the minty geranium is there, but in the background. This feels like it has a bit of Clary sage, which the original has. This has a touch of citrus, maybe bergamot, that ads some freshness, and balances the sharper spices. Sometimes I get a welcome fruity tone, possibly from a clove note. The spiciness was to harsh at first, but the juice feels more balanced and we'll blended now, on the second day. This is an aromatic, fresh spicy, and not very floral: Geranium is a green, minty floral anyway. This would make a great fragrance to wear at the office, it's casual, sharp and bright. I am picking up the floral now. It nicely balances the spices. The floral smells like lavender and carnation to me. Carnation was the dominant floral in the original Equipage. I do need to mention this has a smooth sandalwood, reminding me of the original. I almost think I'm picking up some rosewood. When I first got my bottle, all I smelled were a lot of hot spices, and sandalwood. I have some great geranium fragrances, Diptyque Geranium odorata, and Creed Vetiver Geranium, so I know Geranium, and I'm not picking up much here. Kind of dissapointed, I feel like a bad blind buy, but I remember it being better. Maybe my taste has changed, or I got a bad bottle, or it needs to breath, being on the shelf for a few years. The fragrance did smell better on the second day, more balanced. It does remind me of a more spicy, sharper version of the original Equipage. The spices:. I would guess, cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, pepper, coriander. From the mid-drydown, the spices cool down, and then it reminds me more of the vintage Equipage. This is a grower for me. I really like the distinct spiciness and geranium combo now. I raised my rating from 8 to 9.5. A quality fragrance, with very good performance for edt. Rating: 9.5/10 God bless. John 3:16

I'm comparing, side to side, the new Equipage Geranium version and a regular Equipage, vintage version. Regular Equipage begins with a citrus blast -- with all the herbal and spicy stuff in the background it reminds me of Dior Eau Sauvage or Chanel Pour Monsieur. After 15-20 minutes, I'm left with mostly leather and oakmoss reminding me of Aramis Aramis, Versace L'Homme and Polo Green. And I really seem to get a rough tobacco note with the leather. A "blast from the past" type of fragrance. Equipage Geranium doesn't begin with aforementioned citrus blast -- instead, there is a green medicinal accord, probably geranium. After 10-15 minutes, the composition starts to make sense and I'm getting a lot of sandalwood with some spices reminding me of cinnamon, but not as sweet. Some herbal stuff. The leathery-tobaccoish nuances are subdued and there is a certain airiness or space between the notes. All in all, much more balanced drydown. But there is one similar (and much cheaper) fragrance that comes to mind -- Maurer & Wirtz Tabac Original! Sandalwood, carnation, spices... Equipage Geranium has more nuances, but there are some similarities. I prefer the opening of the original Equipage, but as to the drydown, Equipage Geranium is much more elegant. There seem to be more shades to the accords. Of course, my vintage mini bottle might be off and I can't comment on the current formulation. As to the longevity, there's not much difference.

I worked in retail in the 90’s and the Hermes rep was nice enough to give me a bottle of Equipage. At the time I was young and wearing Joop!, Egoiste and Tsar, so Equipage was too mature and stuffy for me. I ended up giving it away. When I recently heard about Equipage Geranium I was curious. So curious I blind bought it as I feel I can wear a stuffy cologne now that I’m old, and Hermes has never let me down. At first sniff I was reminded of Tiffany for Men, a fragrance I was never fond of. It has that same sweet baby-powder vibe and the sandalwood note is almost identical. Fortunately Equipage Geranium has a spicy note that is complex, masculine and very very interesting. It’s hard to pin point but it maybe it’s comprised of clove and pepper, and has enough of a bite to it that makes me love this. In spite of the spicy background, Equipage Geranium is soft and powdery overall. A very subtle modern update of the original I feel works. This is a clean, mature and masculine scent that is easy to wear, but I still cant see a young guy wearing this. It’s more daytime and dressy, and perfect for work or a wedding. I wouldn’t reach for this if I was hitting the town or a nightclub, but for an everyday scent, this is perfect. Everything Hermes produces is classy, refined and elegant and this is no exception. A big thumbs up for this one and a blind buy I do not regret for a second.

This come across as a real mans fragrance as it is brutally masculine in the opening which does smell a tad dated and medicinal, this disappears in about 30 minutes and then it becomes spicy, fresh, clean and warm, one hour in it becomes a little soapy and you can smell the soft sandalwood coming through in the late dry down. The blending is wonderful as the accords are all balanced perfectly and its also unique as I have never smelt a fresh, clean, soapy yet spicy and warm scent. The scent does sit close to the skin and remains a civilised skins cent so perfect for the office, I do get that old school classy gentleman vibes Dean Martin, Sean Connery, Don Draper, Humphrey Bogart but not present day old man vibes. This is a distinguished gentleman's scent that just excludes a certain level of class and sophistication. I can see this being worn by a man in his late 30s and up, dressed conservatively in smart casual, Chelsea boots, Oxford shirt with a nice woollen coat and scarf in Winter or a cold Autumn day. Longevity is moderately ok 7 hours, not exactly great but not bad either. Will scent again. :) Edit: The fragrance came alive again when I went to the gym so that was a good 10 hours after application. Therefore, the longevity will seem longer in warmer weather or just when your body heat goes up.

I adore the original classic Equipage (I have a review there as well) and was therefore hesitant to reach for a flanker for fear of being let down. However, that is far from the truth here. Equipage Geranium is a magnificent variation on a theme, with geranium pushing it into a more aromatic and somewhat green realm. Furthermore, for those where it matters, if they find original Equipage to be a bit too stuffy and dated (suit yourself!) we see it having a sort of more modern make-over, but without any of the trite attempts often seen in modern flankers of classics. Rest assured, this has all of the soapy, spicy, woody elegance of the classic retained, with some additional flair. The opening is a gorgeous blast of aldehydes, saddle soap, and verdant, mildly rosy geranium. What a showstopper. This soon mellows to a sheer spice heart; my nose detects clove, nutmeg, cinnamon, coriander, among others. The geranium becomes just a bit rosier as the signature Hermes leather underpinnings become more evident. Further into the dry down, the geranium subsides and smooth, supple sandalwood takes its place. Equipage Geranium is yet another example of Hermes bringing exemplary quality and refinement to its mainstream designer offerings, leaps and bounds beyond many other designer houses. What a terrific release.

I did not really see the point of Belami Vetiver but I was quite interested in JC Ellena's new take on Equipage. I used a complete bottle of Equipage three years ago. I feel confident enough to wear a perfume that makes me smell 20 years older so I quite enjoyed this old school herbal scent. I put it in the same league as Dior's Jules, Paco Rabanne pour Homme, Kouros... These perfumes are a fresh breath from the current trends. But I did not feel an urge to rush and buy a second bottle. In Belgium, France and Luxemburg no big retail chain sells Equipage Geranium so it took me one click of courage to blind buy it. Just like Belami Vetiver, Equipage Geranium keeps the original composition in the background. But when you smell your skin closely then you really feel the other ingredients that have been added. It's like the original Equipage turns from herbal to spicy. I can smell the same kind of notes as I do in eau d'Hermès. And of course there's now a much more floral feel to it. I really think that this new version has added something new and interesting. I think it has taken off that 1970's sticker that was glued to Equipage and might put off many people, while making a very elegant and timeless scent, like most of Hermès perfumes.

My first geranium based fragrance, and let me just say, this is a keeper! All of the connotations that we have with geranium, its beautiful, clean and hygienic nature, are present in this fragrance. Lovely sandalwood dry down too. Imagine a man, fresh out of the shower, smart dresser, who cares about his hygiene and appearance, not in a vain way however, he simply wants to present himself as the true gentleman that he is. If that's the vibe you would like to get across, this scent will frame that image for you. A tip for new users: The 100ml bottle seems to have a very fine atomizer, I noticed this when the liquid in the bottle simply wasn't reducing, even with frequent use; so rather than just spraying yourself twice and then feeling, "this sillage could last a bit longer", try spraying between three and four times, and then the divine scent will really be given a better chance to sing. In a nutshell: are you fond of geranium essential oil? Do you like sandalwood scents? Then, without question, you will love Equipage Geranium, seriously!

I got my first bottle of this fragrance and its a successful blind buy. I also have a 10ml sample bottle of the original. This one has the main note of geranium and is prominent all the way. However the DNA of the OG remains on the background like a friendly ghost. Both of them are great scents and they are my dynamic duo from Hermes. The original is a classic while this one is simply marvelous. I can see a man wearing this as someone who exudes confidence, power and sophistication. If you love geranium, this is it. This juice is sophisticated and classy but doesn't smell dated. The herbal vibe all the more adds to its gorgeous aroma. This beauty is a magnificent creation that deserves a rightful place in my collection. As far as performance and projection, its pretty decent. A beautiful and modern re-interpretation of ye olde Equipage. I really like the original but find it a bit too mature for me. This one though has the best of both worlds and should remain relevant for many years to come. A lot has already been said about the ingredients and how beautifully they’ve been blended so I’m going skip that. A true gentleman, just like Equipage Geranium, isn’t loud. It’s more classy and suave than that. Therefore, its projection is more subtle which I actually appreciate because it creates a sophisticated aura around the wearer. Longevity on my skin is above average. The whole composition oozes quality which you would expect from this house. My girlfriend doesn’t like sandalwood, struggles to appreciate fragrances that have cloves or cinnamon and yet she likes this one. It’s what this perfect blend of that soapy freshness with wood and spices can do. Best for spring or autumn.

This was #1 on my list of blind buys, so I was happy to try a sample tonight. I never liked the smell of geraniums growing up, when my parents would drag us to the garden store. I thought they didn't smell as "pretty" as the other flowers. But it's become one of my favorite notes in perfumes. I love the multi-faceted earthy/minty/floral quality. For me, this smells like an actual, honest-to-goodness geranium plant more than anything else. The other notes might be there, but I can't pick them out. I'll have to try this out at the office and see what my focus group of office ladies thinks, but for me this is a winner. If you're considering a blind buy, I'd say go down to the Home Depot, rub a geranium all over yourself, and that should give you a decent approximation.

Love it! It starts with a nice blend of aromatic herbs and fresh spiciness and dries down to an aromatic floral-spicy-moss like base. It is so well blended that it can be difficult to separate the notes. Not that I mind, since well blended is a positive feature in my book. The dry down seems to contain a dose of oakmoss and perhaps a dash of civet. It is unapologetic masculine - make no mistake about it as this is no unisex fragrance. I find it rather sexy - for the grown up man. I cannot compare it with the regular Equipage since I don't know that fragrance well enough, though this fragrance is excellent and one of Hermes' best, in my opinion. It projects quite well and has a rather good duration, perhaps 6-7 hours on my skin.

Someone noted the similarity with Chanel Pour Monsieur. I definitely get it in the drydown. Alkaline and soapy drydown, yet somehow simultaneously airy, floral, dry and spicy. But yes, it's about as light as Eau d'Hermes. I got about 7 hours on skin and clothes (and counting) with two sprays, but the projection seems to be minimal after the first hour. It behaves practically like an EDC. I might be mistaken, but the regular Equipage (newer version) seemed to be a bit stronger, although not a beast either. And the soapy drydown seemed to be rougher. Oh well, life is imperfect in the First World...

This is very, very nice! The notes geranium, spices and sandalwood are a pretty good description of what is most prominent in this scent. It is a refined neo-classic that has both the old school vibe and a modern and fresh refinement. Compared to the current reformulation of Equipage the spices are fresher and possibly even better blended. The mossy drydown is replaced with a really gorgeous sandalwood. I want to have both but for most people I think the new Equipage Geranium is the way to go. This and Tom Ford Italian Cypress are probably my favourite retro juices.

A TRUE gentleman’s perfume. Just class, manners, and compassion. Subtly sexy, because the feeling of safety it exudes makes you want to melt onto the person’s arms. It has a conservative edge in the nicest way possible. Vibe is a dark rich brown curly haired young gentleman with a polo shirt, whose body temperature is always warm and who smiles with his eyes. Ah. But it can be worn at any age, it could even be unisex if you push it. An amazing, all year-round signature scent for the classic and the romantic.

I get a fresh bright and uplifting herbal floral and powdery combination. You get some spices in the opening maybe clove? The sandalwood is a carrier I feel and owed the powdery effect. With geranium giving a fresh herbal floral twist. It is unexpectedly beautiful and I’m quite blessed to have found this after it being discontinued. Every time I wear this it’s such a pleasure. One of the greatest releases from the brand.

Hermes Equipage Geranium (2015) - Spicy Geranium - another #jeanclaudeellena masterclass in relaunching old classics. Equipage was a Carnation, Oakmoss, Pine, Sandalwood fragrance with a spicy backbone. Mr. Ellena updates it by adding Geranium that add a floral rose element and a spicy mint accord. He also creates better balance throughout the original and turns the spicy sandalwood base smooth and refined.

Hermes did a great Job again! Equipage Geranium smells awesome. A clean scent with a lot of Geranium! I can smell spicy accords in middle note and a bit Sandalwood too. This superb perfume is suitable for cold weather the most. I like it for daily usage and I have received good complements when I wear it.

Perfect for spring and summer. A floral masculine that men need not be afraid of! There’s a spicy, aromatic undertone (clove?) that grounds the geranium nicely without overwhelming it. Beautifully light and airy, yet rich and classy with better longevity than you’d expect. Big fan!

I wanted to give alphairone review more than a thumbs up. Right on man. Hermes does have the best designer offerings. Equipage vintage is my #1 classic, and Equipage Geranium is great also, more green and spicy than original vintage Equipage.

A wonderful fragrance. I love it! Thanks Hermes for creating such a great unique fragrances among todays boring designer stuff. This is a great companion to the exciting regular Equipage. A more fresh version perfect for spring and summer.

It is clearly a fresher version of the original Equipage, However I don't feel that it is very different from the OG, I feel like JCE just added Geranium on the initial composition,

A tragedy this is discontinued. Smells like shiny clean leather. Very close to original Equipage but a little brighter and just a hint cleaner.

Wow, this became so animalic in the dry-down, but nice. Great fragrance, underrated. This is fresher than Equipage.

'Equipage Géranium' opens with a bright hesperidic accord which seems bolstered by bergamot. Its tartness is mirrored with transparent aldehydes and a amalgam of spices (cardamom, nutmeg and clary sage perhaps?). The spicy citrus opening is heavenly, as it invigorates the senses with its extreme freshness. Next a gentle geranium note is perceptible in the heart of the composition. Its facets of mint and rose are amplified. Here I gathered a sense of cleanliness, as it reminded me of a finely milled French soap. Geranium's herbal and vegetal tones are indeed a perfect match to the aromatic opening. After drying down on the skin, the scent transforms again as an indolent sandalwood note dominates. With its rounded and creamy qualities, sandalwood imbues a rich and comforting sensation. Hints of both vetiver and oak moss are perceptible, wrapping the fragrance in a musky base. I really enjoyed this re-interpretation of the classic 'Equipage'. As I am not overly familiar with the original fragrance, I will abstain from doing a side by side comparison but can note that I view 'Equipage Géranium' to be a somewhat lighter/fresher version of its older brother. The composition is unabashedly masculine and carries all the expected characteristics of an aromatic fougère. I was enthralled by the beautiful transitions the scent goes through after applying to the skin, as it is indeed quite mesmerizing. As an "eau de toilette" concentration, the fragrance's sillage and projection are above average while longevity seems only average. Some younger men may find this scent too mature, as it definitely denotes a mature sophistication. 'Equipage Géranium' seems suitable for year round wearing, but is perhaps most splendid in the transitional months of spring and autumn. Read my complete review at my personal blog

This is so original and fresh, miles away from the mainstream blue colognes of today. But it's among the finest fresh fragrances that I would call it a timeless masterpiece. A super elegant, sober, refined but modern cologne. Speaks volumes of how well behaved, good hearted, understated, polished and timeless you are. Starts fresh and citrusy with a very distinct bitter almond note (same as in Dior Escale à Portofino). Then the geranium: flower, leaves. That green, minty herbaceous note. If you don't like geranium, steer clear as it's very present. Underneath, almost in disguise, you feel the classic Equipage with its classical attire, spicy aromatic, leathery aristocratic feel. This new version manages to convey the old Equipage but stays fresher with a more carefree, lighter appeal. Smells like aromatherapy, makes you feel reborn new, elegant and happy with yourself. I much prefer this one to the original Equipage. Totally genderless, I would bathe in it (in summer). Sillage is modest, longevity average like all Ellena creations. Why it's so under the radars and not sported by everyone, is a mystery to me.

My second recent geranium-based acquisition, along with A Lab on Fire's L'Anonyme. This is a bit more old-fashioned, but none the worse for it. Like Hermès's other classical offerings, it’s a very polished fragrance, yet much simpler than most of the others. The floral-medicinal qualities of the geranium are perfectly balanced by the smooth, creamy sandalwood. All in all, a very clean, green fragrance, with a hint of spice. It's not nearly as strong or as complex as Guerlain's Derby, which it's been compared to. For precisely this reason, it's a bit more wearable than Derby. For me, this works in any season and occasion, though you have to appreciate older, barbershop-adjacent fragrances. And sadly the longevity and sillage aren't stellar on me. Still worth every penny, though.

Oh man! Hermès does not fell down if its the matter of class. This must be a very modern classic scent. Though I did not try OG but it feels like there is a true essense of classic sophistication. Opening is quite interesting and nice blend of spices, i think cloves which is quite dominant with geranium. Here the geranium is not quite minty but well balanced. Dry down is soft with sandalwood and spices. IMO this can be wearable round the year (Signature Scent Worthy) specially in office & high stake meetings. This is for self-confident man who do not care after taking his decisions. Age group may be above 30. Mr. Jean-Claude Ellena again you have done something smooth,well balanced and peak towards elegence. Lucky enough to get vintage formulation i.e. 2015

I blind bought this one and unfortunately as much as I can appreciate its undisputed qualities and wish I could love it, I will have to pass it. I’m sorry. The problem for me is the initial blast of spices that is close to unbearable. It feels almost gourmand and the clove makes me nauseatic. When you get to the drydown, all there is left is nice minty soapy geranium and sandalwood. At that point it screams class and refinement, but I cannot suffer through the initial phase. Also it feels way mature and elegant, most definitely suit and tie stuff. I would love to smell it on an older gentleman, but can’t stand it on myself (I have the same issue with another all time classic Habit Rouge by Guerlain).

Like one of the previous reviewers, I think the original Equipage is a masterpiece and has been in my Top 5 since I first smelled it. For better or worse, I have a general aversion to flankers, especially ones that riff on the classics. Fortunately, EG does exactly what it set out to do: keep the original scent recognizable while staking out new territory. There is indeed plenty of cooling geranium in the top and heart but the nutmeg/sage/spices/carnation profile is still very much integral to the scent. The original is spicy-warm and dry, suited to fall and winter, while EG is spicy-cool and dry, suited to any season, except perhaps on the cold winter days.

This is a really well blended perfume. Typically excellent Hermes quality. It starts with a moderate projection but by an hour later it's a skin scent. It's old school in a good way. The general woody spicy feel is complemented well by the minty feel, the geranium and the spices over the sandalwood. I think that if you're getting a woody, classy perfume from Hermes then Rocabar is the best option. If, however, you're looking for something traditional which is on the soft side, then Equipage Geranium should fit the bill nicely. It has a similar vibe to Chanel's Egoiste but is a little fresher and lighter. Good work by the master Jean-Claude Ellena.

batch BAAAE it brings me back. i have always loved equipage, bel ami and habit rouge. they are my holy trinity. when they came out, they were my idea of ultimate sophistication and sex. yep, clean suave masculine powerful sex. sean connery's james bond without the smoking and booze (admission: i am a non-smoker vegetarian, so my taste receptors are not mainstream.) geranium is a new equipage, strong enough while being sleek and a bit more floral. it is truly enjoyable.

Spicy, slightly floral with a woody base. Reminds me a lot of Derby and the original Equipage. A more mature scent, refined and elegant. Longevity is average, about 5-6 hours on my skin with light sillage. An 8.0/10 for me. It’s not complex but it’s refined and worthy of a suit or nice business casual setting. Warmer weather and probably best suited for men in their 30s+. Drastically underrated (not on here but almost zero reviews online). A steal under $75.

I tried to give this one a chance. Has an interesting open, but the dry down smells like cigarettes in an ashtray. Was a 70 dollar blind buy, but I won’t be wearing this. Update: Ok, I admit it, I was wrong. I’m liking this fragrance more and more. The top notes have a soapy quality that I really enjoy. The drydown is no longer offensive to me but it is formidable. Blame my untrained nose for my initial impression.

An aromatic burst that is both retro and timeless. It’s fresh and woody, and elegantly spicy. Very nice. There is also a delicate minty aftertaste, and certainly there is leather, not animalic, but dry and discreet. EG is quiet, confident and handsome just like its father (which i like more) for about two hours before it turns into an unidentifiable object, muted and vague, but still attractive. ***(**)

What I get on my skin is mostly cloves and nutmeg, with geranium support. I also get woody/leathery notes in the base. Performance is overall average. Pretty simple, but pretty stunning creation by Hermes, probably the house that offers the most refined line of fragrance (in the mainstream customer segment). Highly recommended. Spring/Fall days, 30+

Equipage Geranium is part of Les Classiques of Hermes collection,created my Jean Claude Ellena.A new lighter edition than classic Equipage in 1970's with geranium which makes it brighter,clove smells like chocolate with a hint of rose-mint.

I bought this back in 2021 and used it for a while, then I passed it to my mom, as she was complimenting it a few times, and it was a bit sharp for my taste. For the first 15-20 minutes, Geranium is there. Top notes are not that enjoyable. Then starts the phase where most users swear that it smells like Imperial Leather soap. I agree with them. This phase is better than the opening. Mom and wife were complimented at this stage. Lasts for about three hours. Then comes the base, where we have lovely sandalwood for another three hours. By the end of the 3rd hour, EG already becomes a skin scent, so no one can smell the sandalwood but yourself. There are spices after the first hour only if you bury your nose in your skin (on paper I detect very good cinnamon, but not on my skin). Definitely a modernised version of Equipage. Soapier than a perfume! Performance is just like an EDT. 6 hours of longevity and arms-length projection for the first hour. Better to be used in fall and spring. Too sharp for Summer. Edit: Last week I realised that she hasn't used much, so I took it back. I think this benefits in time, as it is no longer sharp to my nose. Today I am enjoying more than before. I wish it projected for a few hours with a bit of sillage.

Barber. Okay, there’s nothing much to write — this is Azzaro, this is Armani, this is Rabanne. It’s a fougère with a surprise. Maybe someday. Or maybe a top classics list will have to be made. Azzaro is better. D&G Pour Homme is less fougère, more feminine and rosy. Actually, Sole di Positano can also be considered a classic, as it’s also a barber with a salty surprise. Geranium is a worse Azzaro. After a while, it becomes something more interesting but aged. Hermès, as you can see, likes to play with mowing grass. However, it’s not dumb; it reminds me of something from Ecuadorian scents. For that reason, I’d be inclined to recommend it to someone. Against that backdrop, Oscar De La Renta Pour Lui is just an ordinary barber. You could even say Hermès Geranium is ahead of Oscar and Azzaro because it offers a certain originality. Geranium is the scent of an Ecuadorian shaman. Against that, Rabanne is friendly; Hermès doesn’t openly operate with sweetness. Oscar and Chanel Boy mix acidity with sweetness; Azzaro dispels sweetness; Sole has only the minimum needed for a good blend, and D&G Pour Homme is soaked in it.

Awful stuff. It's a good thing I test sprayed a bit of my Nordstrom sample on my arm before doing a general spray or it would have made for a long, long day. The top notes have a piercing, cloying floral note that smells like the world's worst scented candle - or unbearably soapy, I'm not sure which. This pungency only lasts for a half hour or so and then the scent settles down, but I don't care for the floral drydown, either. (Suspicion confirmed: geranium is not for me.) This is one of the least attractive Hermes scents I've ever smelled. Scrubber.

I tried this on skin the other day at the Hermes shop in Miami's art district. I don't know why but this gave me a semi sour anise like scent which I found unpleasant. Maybe I'm alone on this but it's probably the only fragrance I've ever washed off. It's not necessarily an awful fragrance it just doesn't work with my chemistry. I highly recommend you try this on skin before buying.

Go for the original and classic Equipage, this flanker is a only a bad joke...

Equipage Geranium is good stuff. Considering the quality of releases in recent years, it is wonderful stuff. It retains the basic structure of Equipage, which was all about resplendent woods, sparkling spices, a dash of carnation and a touch of herbs. However, it's been masterfully altered by slimming and trimming it to make it more modern, but without sacrificing quality. Gone are the herbs, the florals, and the spices. Instead, there's a soothing, balmy mint at first, followed by sparse geranium and the original woody structure, but without the rosewood, and a distinct focus on the sandalwood. The mint-geranium-sandalwood accord with a touch of mild spices is at once intelligent and legible. There's a wonderful lemony aspect to the sandalwood. The whole accord presents an abstraction of a high quality soap, and at times hints of leather - the soft supple leather of Hermes bags. The dry down is mostly the sandalwood, with traces of the other compositional elements. Sillage is close and intermittent - one keeps getting lovely wafts throughout its duration on skin, which is a good seven hours based on a liberal application. Equipage Geranium is sleek, modern, polished but also with an obvious nod to tradition. Its eau de toilette formulation is adequate, and never intrusive. It has a subtlety, but without sacrificing depth. I have worn it quite a bit this summer, but imagine it to be even better in slightly cooler weather. Released in 2015, Equipage Geranium almost puts to shame most other modern designer and 'niche' releases that are hackneyed, derivative, harsh, cheap, unpolished or unwearable. The late work of JCE for Hermès appears to me as particularly interesting being classic and inventive simultaneously - a distillation of his knowledge and likings - Muguet and Cuir d'Ange from Hermessence - and the modernizations of Bel Ami, Amazone and here - Equipage of the main line. A great examples how to deal with legacy heavy weight classic in a respectful and compelling manner. The accentuation of the Geranium in Equipage Geranium works perfectly - this is not the fragrance heavy, more minty Geranium type, that for example does so well in Geranium pour Monsieur or in MPG's Jardin du Nile, but that other, at least in Europe much more common Geranium that was a particularly popular pot plant in the 70's and 80's - and that when touching its leaves, releases a earthy, herbal, from my childhood memories, an even pedantic odd smell, that was not pleasant at all. Now many years after this first encounter with that kind of Geranium as such, and also having had the original Equipage in the past - here it fits perfectly, shifting away from the carnation oaky leather into a great herbal update, which I do prefer over the original. It somehow manages to oscillate from something that feels like a herbal holographic double and an impression that is close to the original, yet somehow new. Recommended.

Russian leather style... A gentleman's cologne... The top note is really deceiving! cause the drydown reminds me allot of vintage "Equipage" the 1992 version! the one with the long brown cap. When i first sprayed it i went "Uff, another butchered fragrance... long gone Equa!".... but when it dried down, the charm came up instantly! and i directly remembered the 92' version, the version when "Equipage" smells like high elegant gentleman. A gentleman who has some hidden intense part! someone like James Bond and specifically "Timothy Dalton" Bond, or "Jason Isaacs" as "Clark Devlin" in Tuxedo, & if i'm gonna go more evil then "Jason Isaacs" in the Patriot movie, the shaving scene... This happened with "Bel Ami" new version as well, the top note was deceiving, but the dry down is amusing and reminds me of the original. The blend is spicy, citrucy, woody, and floral. it has cedar, cypress, sandal, bergamot, cypriol, & doses of carnations, & geranium, The only extra in this "Equipage" version is more musky geraniums, and bits of carnations! and i believe the 92 as well has that geranium intensity added to it. Beautiful indeed.
