Galop d'Hermes

This is an odd one. I have enjoyed this fragrance, spraying it from time to time from the Hermès concession in Manchester, England and it's always been on my want list as a creamy soft rose that's not really that leathery unless you count the very finest ladies' kid gloves: not that I'm averse to a skanky leather being a fan of Leather Oud, Cuir Cannage and Bandit. It's always been very pretty, luxurious and unctuous when I've tried it before. As it was again yesterday when I gave it a spritz from the concession thinking 'Too expensive but maybe I'll find it cheap one day'. Then to my astonishment when I walked into another Manchester department store to check if there were any budget Guerlains in the sale there was Galop on the first stand I looked at reduced to just a THIRD of the price. Boom! Bargain of the century. I bought a bottle and rushed home in anticipation smelling my right arm on the bus and probably fairly wafting it around the other passengers too. Home; cellophane off; spray; strongly bitter fruit smell; no rose but maybe leather poking through eventually. I kept comparing the two samples hunting the rose till I was anosmic. Today I went back to the Hermès concession for a cheeky second opinion (helps that I have bought stuff from them too) and the perfume rep who came down from the office confirmed that my bottle was genuine but on handing her two strips I'd sprayed with their bottle (half full and stood in strong daylight) and mine (new out of the box but probably been in warehouses for years) she confirmed there's was softer and lighter and the bottle I'd bought was darker and denser but definitely genuine. Again I have the two samples side by side and they are performing as yesterday now maybe 5 hours after being sprayed. If I bring both wrists together and smell both I get a perfect balance of the rose, the leather, some soft musk and the tart citrus. I have yet to decide whether to wait a few days to see if my bottle softens and keep it or return it (as it was bought from a bona fide department store that's not a problem). At £57 it was still very cheap and bottles do change after being sprayed a few times so we'll see. So, finally,if you like Galop beware of jumping on offers of cheap bottles on eBay which are now cropping up. As per my experience you might not be getting what you thought you were getting and it might be fair to say that this perfume is in some way unstable. There are better representations of suede out there too such as Tom Ford's excellent Ombre Leather and much classier roses for less money such as Ormonde Jayne's Ta'if for instance. In fact maybe I should layer those two and see what happens... Update 10 Feb after spraying over three days the fragrance has attained the correct balance. Meanwhile Hermès sent me a leather chord which otherwise only comes with Galop if bought from a Hermès shop.

They say that when a perfume suits you and you enjoy it, it simply works. The sillage is good, the longevity is good, it feels simply good wearing it. They say so, or am I saying so? I didn't have high hopes for Galop, and frankly I wasn't even interested in trying it, mostly for the price which is around 240€ for 50ml pure parfum. Plus, even though Hermès is quite elegant and distinctive, I'm not a fan of JCE, nor his transparent aquarelle signature. I feel that a house with such history could opt for a bolder trademark. But I'm afraid that belongs in the past with legends such as Doblis, Equipage, Bel Ami, Caleche... No matter how good or bad the reformulations, the quality is there but something is not; boldness. And surprisingly I found it in Galop. First standalone creation of Christine Nagel, it clearly follows the path created by Ellena in transparency and watercolor but it adds something more; a kick. While following the codes of Hermès, it adds a bit of sensuality, and shows that the nose behind follows the path but leads the way. And that's a good thing because Nagel isn't Ellena, and her creations have to show that. Galop opens on my skin with a rose water accord. Rose water that smells honeyed. I would have preferred a darker rose, but then again I'd also have preferred many things that aren't allowed in perfume today. Rose water, middle eastern style but without the cliche of oud, spicy saffron in small quantities and a leather accord that brings to mind older but not vintage Cuir de Russie, with a somewhat dirty soapiness, a facet of leather sometimes found in older creations that didn't rely on isobutyl quinolene. I don't get the quince and the osmanthous is barely there, just adding a slight juiciness in the same way Ellena's creations added a watery note. (The Nagel difference?) Although quite linear, I find it interesting. The interplay is between the rose dominance, the leather dominance, and a spicy ménage a trois that shows different facets during the day. I get the same notes along a nice not-so-clean musk that appears during mid development and stays throughout, finally showing a bolder leather at drydown. While modern and pleasing, it echoes the older Kelly Caleche and manages to smell elegant, slightly dirty, and appropriate for most occasions. It feels as a timid first attempt, but underneath it there are some interesting aspects that make me look forward to what mrs Nagel has to offer in subsequent creations. On my skin, there's excellent sillage and all day longevity, which I appreciate given the price asked. Don't approach it expecting a powerhouse because it is not, but there is something that shakes the image of the house a bit, and I'm sure it's just the beginning. Perfectly unisex (at least in Spain it's being promoted as such) and work friendly.

Galop takes time to develop and grow . For me it was a blind buy, like at least 60% of my collection. It has become nearly impossible to find, I suspect it’s discontinued since even Hermes website doesn’t sell it any longer, not the bottle, nor the refill. I came across a bottle of refill Galop in an online shop where I’ve been shopping for many years. It was more expensive than an Amouage, and still, I decided it was then or never. My bottle arrived, and my first reaction was to dab a little. It was disappointing. Plain leather, something woody animatic, not much rose, no quince, no fruit - immediately I thought I should have gotten another bottle of Kelly Caleche edp, since I love that one, I don’t have much left of it, and it would have been less expensive than Galop. I should say that it was the note of quince which made me take the decision in paying this much money, since quince is a very rare and hard to find fruit here in Canada, but I grew up with it in Europe and I love it. I was so upset. I decided to find an empty decant with a sprayer, and sprayed. Lots. On skin, and on my clothes. And magic happened. With a glass of St. Germain in my hand, (my favorite liqueur, it’s an elderflower blossom sweet potion), I was enveloped in the softest leather, jammy roses, a hint of smoke, and, St.Germain liqueur which does smell and taste like elderflowers, lychees, and quinces. Absolutely magic. Was the fruit coming from my drink or from Galop? The guilt left me. I love it. It was worth the investment. It’s funny how when you acquire a large collection such as my own, it’s much easier to feel upset when spending money on a new perfume, because you did not need it, and there’s a good chance you have something similar already. Galop is not similar to anything else I own, and I have over 350 bottles. The silage is moderate, the lasting power is excellent, all to be expected from pure parfum concentration. Second day, my skin still smells like it, and so does the shirt I wore yesterday. It’s morning now, so no more booze, but a couple of more sprays of Galop, and, half an hour later, it’s back in full beauty. It is unisex indeed, but leaning more feminine as the time passes. I love it, and I can see myself wearing a lot. It’s very special, and to me, worth it, and addictive, but it was not love at first sniff. Don’t judge it only by the top notes.

A rose leather. Ugh. Again? Are we really going to have another one, Hermes? Yes, yes we are, and it’s going to be an expensive parfum concentration too. Despite my initial eye rolling, I will admit a good amount of curiosity to see what Nagel was going to do here being a big fan of her work for a long time. My curiosity was well rewarded: I got some things I expected and some things unexpected. Unexpected: a sour, slightly hot, and citrusy tropical-fruity quince note paired alongside a soft, hay-like, and woody saffron. Saffron certainly isn’t new in roses or leathers, but its pairing with the unusual quince is definitely interest piquing and beguiling. They lead to a rose heart that steers more towards osmanthus than generic rose by a long shot. It is pink and golden fruity in a tropical and slightly sour way, gently pink and white floral, woody and tea-like. Pretty. Again, not anything new for a rose-leather perfume but not exactly what I was expecting from a mainstream designer house either. Expected: The leather in the dry down is a gentle, powdery suede-like leather, very light on the tanning chemicals and animalics - no doubt evoking the smell of Hermes’s ultra-high end handbags. Lastly, Galop smells like a Nagel composition. Galop has her signature style of keeping proceedings light weight, rich, pleasantly modern with well-handled if sometimes overt synthetics, and the elastic and slick texture of cling-film or gelatin. Galop doesn’t necessarily go the extrait mile in terms of longevity, but the other facet of the high concentration is very pleasing in that it relays its message slowly, patiently, clearly, and calmly like a good parfum should. It stays close to the skin, not much happening in terms of sillage or protection, but that makes it feel like it is whispering sweetly, happily, and a bit sensually into your ear. Most rose leather perfumes are loud and pushy divas that want to make their voices heard by yardstick measurements in cool weather, but not Galop. This is a perfume for the wearer, and it is very versatile in its style appeal and wearability. And, most importantly and quite simply, it smells great. This is another win for Hermes, and a win for Nagel as well who found something fairly unique in a very crowded genre.

Out of this bottle comes freshness, pure cleanliness and at the same time dirt and rubber. I'm rolling on the grass and then my nose is sniffing some old notebook where i kept notes back in university, realistic paper. His drydown consists of all these scents plus the following which is the best part: I enter my grandpas car, leather seats inside. Twenty years ago and I was reminded of the scent because of Galop. Leather leather leather. Real leather. This is it. Galop is ten times harder than Bottega Veneta Bottega Veneta, if you have given it a sniff. Bottega Veneta is clean, soft leather gloves maybe, Galop is male leather. For that, I think he's unisex; seriously, men can easily pull this off. Citric opening, then it's a hint of sweet, is it the saffron? Still it's not prominent. Quite honestly none of the notes is prominent except LEATHER. Now that I'm informed of the nose behind the perfume, Christine Nagel, I'm impressed she didn't use pink pepper( which i have noticed in some creations of her, yet again don't quote me on that); I would love it with pink pepper too! True leather that intensifies more and more as you wear it. Projects for the three first hours and then it becomes more of a skin scent. It is then when Galop starts to fade slowly and become Bottega Veneta Bottega Veneta. I'm willing to wear him on his own, but also very eager to layer with other perfumes. The leather is so strong that he can't be overshadowed. A scent strictly for grown ups. Not because he's too heavy, or reminiscent of old-time perfume. But because he's mature in a serious way, belonging to a serious person, man or woman, not to a giggly lady of Fruity berry coconut from bath and body works (nothing against them, but you get the point). Galop is hard, somber at times, has the I'm-grown-up-and-I-know-what-I'm-doing expression on his face. I refuse to believe Galop is female, he is male. Rubbery car tire leather freshened up with paper forgotten in a library alley. For me a haunting scent. Yes, I love it.

Galop is a top-quality rose-leather scent, seemingly only available in parfum concentration. It is a rich, dark rose, initially bolstered by spices, that becomes sweeter as it develops, joined by smooth leather in its later stages. Despite the marketing, it is a unisex rose scent, not a million miles away from Frédéric Malle Rose & Cuir, or Memo Paris French Leather Rose, as Pilikins below points out. Opulent yet bohemian, Galop is a thing of beauty, masterfully composed by the excellent Christine Nagel - I believe it is her Hermès début. I adore a rich rose scent, and this is a great example of one. The rose note is present from the very beginning, enhanced to perfection by the earthy, spicy saffron. I adore a good rose-saffron accord - it being the height of refinement - and it is beautifully done here. The quince note adds a soft, slightly sour fruitiness - not unpleasant - lingering in the background for a little while. The rose develops, becoming the main event - rich, dark and honeyed. It is a little like the rose in Amouage Lyric, or Serge Lutens La Fille de Berlin - both exceptional dark rose scents I've smelled lately. There is a slight apricot nuance thanks to the osmanthus, which lifts and sweetens the rose a little. As it develops, the leather accord emerges, stemming seamlessly from the saffron of the opening. It smells of top quality, buttery-soft leather, which, along with the rose, makes for a truly opulent accord. The leather note (along with the stirrup-shaped bottle, of course) is an obvious nod to Hermès' equestrian heritage. The rose-leather accord is smooth and delicious as it fades, joined by a little musk that blurs the edges to perfection. Sillage and longevity are moderate - it fades after about 5-6 hours - not exceptional performance for a parfum, but absolutely fine. Unisex, but more feminine than Rose & Cuir for example, this is an autumn/winter scent that is nonchalant enough to be worn during the day. Utterly classy. 4.5/5.

Hmmmm, okay. This is the exact scent that perfectly describes all the horse books I read growing up that I wished would come to life. This is the affluent horse world I dreamt of living in, when I was riding OTTB's through backyards. This scent is a smart looking, black Thoroughbred with white socks and a strip with new horseshoes clacking down pavement as his groom brings him to a box stall before the race. This scent is jangling chains, new feed buckets, new polished riding boots, a clean tack room, monogrammed saddle pads, "a million isn't a lot of money" energy. Beautiful. This scent has wit, a scrutinizing gaze, it wears a thin gold necklace, tiny diamond studs, and nothing more. Anything more is just frill. I see rainy days on the English countryside in an indoor arena, a beautifully, well-organized tack room, crisp paper bags at a clothing shop, driving alone in a new SUV, dark colored racehorses that are groomed to the nines, German Shepherds and Border Collies. Love this one so much. I will say on my skin I am receiving a lot more animal and rose than I was expecting. Pleasantly surprising. I look forward to the next 3-4hrs with this scent. Normally I wear deadly-sweet scents, but this one has taken me on an adventure. Edit: after wearing this fragrance for five days straight, and putting it on before bed, I see a delicate dance between fine leather and rose. It splits exactly half and half for me. It gives me a confidence I never knew I could have, and it's a scent I had to grow into and question myself if I have the courage to be That Woman while wearing it. Beautiful. Definitely a favorite. If anyone is selling a bottle let me know!

Packaging = important if giving is a gift ('though I bought this for myself). The Galop bottle is handsome and heavy and feels wonderful in the hand. Good looking enough to display, though the glass is clear so better to keep in its purpose made pouch (made from the same thick chevron fabric as Hermes bags come with, drawstring included). The leather cord is not just decorative but pulls off the fairly weighty cap and the pump gives a very satisfying fine squirt. Upon purchase you get to choose the colour of the leather cord it comes with, these coordinate with classic and seasonal leather offerings from the leather dept, I chose Bambou, a fresh, lively green. The box is robust and pretty much unisex. I don't think this fragrance is just for women, neither in the packaging or scent, in fact not many women I know would want to evoke such a force of leather on another being. Even the rose is on the dark, musky, bitter side. The opening is a full strength, in ya face Barenia leather curtain and straight into an August garden of ripening fruits and dry heat (saffron?). Very gentle musky scent in the dry-down, I had to ask a 'friend' if he could still smell it (elbow pit) 6 hours later. I don't think that's due to a lack of longevity but familiarity of the wearer. When a horse gallops, all four hooves come down at once 'bang' and then are picked-up in unison. If a photo is taken when the horse is 'en l'air' the horse is captured actually flying. Hermes of course rode Pegasus to the underworld and back. Galop could take you to another world, something darker remains and lingers from your experience even when you think you're safely home.

WOW! Tested it today in the world's most famous department store and I can say it is rather unique, intriguing and so compelling with its semi-customisable packaging (the stirrup strap comes in half a dozen colours to choose from), that I want one as a (gay) man AND as a former Equestrian. I swear I immediately picked up the "Si" Armani signature (that fruity chypre theme) that is unmistakably Christine Nagel's signature. Here, instead of that infamous cassis note, she chose that semi-exotic quince accord: Genius! Mind you, if I was mean, I'd say, save yourself a few bucks and buy Penhaligon's "Vaara" instead, with a more complex Quince story (and of that a really great one), but I must admit the notes between that suede, rose, saffron, et al are very well balanced and juxtaposed. Truly a remarkable modern, different, pungent, exciting new effort for Hermes, whose juices I previously found rather bland, watery and somewhat insipid. Seems to me, perfumer women, are all the rave at this present moment in time. Also, as a small equestrian trivia side note: the gallop is a 4 sequenced gait (with a flight phase, whereby none of the horses legs are touching the ground), so perhaps that could be the reason for the 4 notes being listed here? Miss Nagel, please elaborate! Verdict: Fantastic 9 and only because it is missing for me the horse dung/ barn note that I would expect from a truly equestrian perfume. Good sillage and for Hermes standards rather long-lasting. ARMANI "Si" now has a new flanker, I mean a NEW COUSIN!!!

- In the vast sea of sweet wine I dreamt of rose shaped pears and horse-riding - ★★★★★ A very strange yet exciting fragrance. Opens with syrupy sweet and juicy pear/quince note that almost recalls pear liquor. Rose is also prominent from the start further contributing to the juiciness with its thick jam-like sweetness. However, this rose is stripped from the fresh leafy green aspects and stays dark red from top to base. Almost like the rose-honey scent of phenyl ethyl alcohol (or acetate) but something is different here. A synthetic abstract rose nevertheless. Leather here gives me the imagery of horse stables but not in a dirty animalic way. Saffron contributes hugely to the earthiness and bitter-nature of the leather accord which translates as a very photorealistic cured leather impression. The sweet boozy pear, jammy rose and leather combined gives me the notion of a sweet red wine such as madeira or port wine – highly sensual and sophisticated accord indeed. Galop is kind of rosy but not in a romantic way. Kind of sweet yet bitter, earthy and grounded. Sensual but also serious and realistic in its leathery stable impression. Heavy when you think about it but ultimately feels kind of light on skin. All in all, a very linear one note fragrance but a great one. The type where you know what’s coming you every time you go for that wrist, but you just can’t figure it out. Soundtrack: Hunter/Game - Isolation

On the kitchen table, we have always used to keep quinces as a fragrant centerpiece in the break of fall. That waxy quince (quince peel) is here, but blended well with woody saffron undertones, bringing forward a slightly dark velvety rose on suede. You don't get stables, mud, and rustic simplicity out of this. But something about it makes you associate it with the elegance of an equestrian tweed outfit and leather boots, on a cool day, around piles and piles of hay. It smells polished and clean (as in refined, rather than musky or soapy) and regal, like old money and natural deep modest sense of style. I love to smell myself at bedtime when I wear it - it is such a peaceful and well crafted scent. During the day, when I wear it, it makes me feel very serene, focused and put together. Although it's an elegant perfume, I always reach for it when I wear my jeans and ankle boots with one of my favorite fitted wool jackets (which I got from of Edinburgh - and somehow this scent matches the feelings I fondly recall from my trip to there and the castle). I have no way of knowing how a sexy equestrian feels, but I can't unsee/unfeel this in Galop and replace it with a more trivial olfactory interpretation. It is different from everything else and I love it.

The first time I encountered Galop I was completely wrong-footed by it. My guess at the note list was way off. I was picking up minty green freshness and white florals and lily-of-the-valley with a crisp, clean vetiver in the base. So 100% wrong and that's part of Galop 's intrigue. Wearing it today I look at the note list and I can pick out the muted rose and the saffron and mild, creamy leather but they're not what I smell first and foremost. It's the quince. Like cool, unsweetened pear with its softer side drawn out by the apricot and nectar notes of osmanthus. It's this cool fruitiness that I mistook for "green" and the fleshy notes of white floral. Another point about Galop is its distinctiveness. It has the Hermès DNA — highly-polished, clean lines, fresh, not much weight in the base — but its uniqueness makes it recognisable. So you need to have the confidence to own it rather than let it own you. But if you can pull it off it's worth it because Galop is absolutely beautiful. A real head-turner of a fragrance. Unexpected when you encounter it and very alluring. Unisex, daytime, projecting city sophistication, a little bit bougie, a little bit cold but that's Hermès. The outlandish bottle adds something too. One to own and cherish

Galop is the quintessential feminine leather, there is no need to search for another. So, aristocratic, so arrogant, Galop flaunts its wealth in your face w/ no apologies and no mercy. Elena K described this fragrance so perfectly so eloquently that I doubt that I could add anything to her assessment of this finely crafted fragrance. If you want a perfume that smells like old money, sophistication, privilege, and arrogance get your nose on this beauty right away. It is breathtaking. Full bottle worthy for leather lovers and lovers of class, style, elegance and quite a bit of bravado. Edit: I wasn't going to buy a full bottle of this. Instead, I was going to be good and just get decants from time to time but I love Galop so much that I just have to pull the trigger on this one. This is so rich, so decedent, just everything I have wanted in a leather fragrance for so long. Buttery, boozy, animalic, supple, delicious, exotic, it is so over the top and bold. This is a daring release for a design house, hell this puts most niche fragrances I have smelled to shame. I have written over a 1000 reviews and have smelled close to 1,500 perfumes (I've smelled a ton of stuff not in the data base) and Galop is truly something special. One of a kind.

Utterly beguiling! Galop d’Hermès exudes a lavish sense of adventure and sex appeal marking a new direction for Hermès, but one utterly in keeping with the brand’s finessed aesthetic. Sparkling on initial application with juicy quince, barely-there orange and overripe blackcurrant, Galop quickly, and seamlessly, reveals the rose at the center of its composition. Riding atop the blackcurrant, the rose brings contrast to the plush freshness of the quince with a smoky, jammy character akin to black tea. It’s not long before saffron makes its presence known, taming the fruity opening and hinting with its characteristic dryness at the leather to come. Galop d’Hermès is a fragrance of two halves, rose and leather, and it’s in the early dry down that this becomes most apparent. Here, a luxuriously soft leather (almost suede like) darkened by rose and tainted with saffron envelopes the composition with a delicate dry warmth. All the while, white musk hides in shadows, radiating quiet sensuality and tension as it does so. Certainly unisex, this has been described as “sexy” on my skin by several women. The extrait’s exceptional quality lends itself to 10+ hour longevity with moderate sillage. 9.5/10

Oh my god, I never would have tried this had my perfume pen pal Gretta not sent me a generous decant, and now I'm strangely besotted. Rose and leather? Yes, please. Normally I steer clear of saffron in my fragrances (as I do cumin), because as good as I find them in food, I find them repulsively sweatlike on skin, but here the saffron just adds a smidge of depth to the leather/osmanthus note. I have a few perfumes that contain quince, and I'm a little ambivalent about it in general--as with lychee, or litchi, it can sometimes come off as slightly sour on my skin--but here the quince is fleeting, leaving behind only a slight piquancy, perhaps imagined. As beautiful as I find this profile, however, I'm not sure I would need a full bottle, which is lucky for me, I suppose, because I know it's pricey. I do think the rose note could be a bit more prominent, but that's perhaps just me, the ultimate flo ho, "grandma"-perfume-promoting, longtime blossom-huffing rose partisan. It's a bit like smelling a bouquet of roses that are shoved inside a brand-new leather Hermes tote. As with all my Gretta decants, it smells like pure class.

It seems that I found my signature for summer. Hérmes Galop, yes marketed for woman but IMO definitely unisex. Not leaning a little feminine because the rose or masculine because of the leather but unisex just in the middle. Reminds me of my Latin-Spanish roots, I used to play in summer near quince and oranges trees in the countryside riding horses as well. The leather is not an animalic one but an orangy Spanish suade, with a fresh citrusy fruity little bit sour and sweet quince, and all the composition surrounded by a subtle and elegant rose. Is a very elegant and mature perfume +30, I like it for summer when you are bored with those sticky citrous aquatics scents. As an Extrait de Parfum projection is not too loud, it's transparent as MFK aqua line with a persistent sillage and lasting power. Well done Christine Nagel and thanks for the memories

I am not interested in leather-related scents, they are just too much and too bold. If, then only for personal experience at home. Still, all of those few leather scents I've tried have been OK, even though I wouldn't wear any of them outside. But Galop! This is so beautiful! I didn't have a faintest idea that leather notes could be used in such a sweet and soft, even powdery way. I didn't even understand that this was supposed to be a leather scent in the first place before I checked the notes. Suede fruits and flowers? Who got this idea? This is really a piece of art and a big positive surprise about leather to me. But other notes? I don't really distinguish them and I feel I don't have to. Maybe rose is there but I only realised this after seeing the notes; all of them together make a very nice mixture anyway.

Wow, this is amazing. Signature scent worthy fragrance. Scent of distinctive leather (a thick leather glove rather than subtle ballet slipper kind), lined with a touch of smoke, surrounded by a soft and delicious cloud of rose and fruits. Mouth-watering, luxurious, sexy, sophisticated. I want to swim in this. So sad that it is that expensive 🥲 Also, I tried out Lil Fleur by Byredo; I can say that in terms of notes they are similar, but Galop is more leather-forward and smoother, Lil Fleur - more fruity, a bit too jammy for my taste, and sweeter. Towards dry down phase they become more similar to each other. Parameters of both are good. I would say that Galop is like an elegant, serious, older sister to Lil Fleur - which is more like a bit uproarious, spoiled teenage girl.

Hermes is easy becoming my favourite house. The scents aren’t main stream , they are quality , natural smelling and transparent . High quality scents ! Gallop is no exception , it delivers so well. A gorgeous feminine fruity sweet leather scent. Along the line of LV Dans la peau and Mille Feux ... slight similarities with black saffron Byredo . Gallop is sophisticated, refreshing yet warm and sensual . I feel very elegant and put together when I wear the scent. It smells like old money . Gallop has a soapy powdery suede like feel , simply stunning . Many compliments with this one . You don’t need much , it’s highly concentrated pure perfume , it delivers Phantastic! Christine Nagel understands Hermes style well she is amazing! I feel like I walk taler when I wear it !!

Galop d'Hermes by Hermès created by Christine Nagel extraordinary, brilliant animalic fragrance that evokes intense and aristocratic equestrian atmospheres. Galop surprisingly smells of equine mantle ... yes, the scent of equine mantle magically enclosed in a bold bottle that reproduces an elegant stirrup. When dry the leathery notes are imperious, powerful, almost manure, the rose is an occult accomplice that when dry down manifests itself in all its majesty, the saffron note dominating in accordance with the acidulous fruity notes of the quince, all masterfully blended creates a noble and grandiose magnetic effect, at times leathery / manure at times floral / fruity and sensual. Galop is a sensory-olfactory experience that I highly recommend you to live. Fantastic.

Tried it yesterday, while sniffing out for new goodies. Initial blast is strong and acidic, but soon enough you get very soft, rich and pampering suede (sorry, not leather but suede, at least to my inexperienced nose). Rose notes blend in quite beautifully and wave in and out, so you get a rather dynamic scent. Quince was not very prominent, it's probably the main actor in the citric opening though. Saffron? well, maybe, but more as a sidekick for the rose. I loved it and would have bought it, even though it's really pricey, only I already have some very nice leather/suede perfumes, and also (a more important and also far sadder reason) my daughter really hated it, gagged at it and said it smelt of play dough (hubby half-heartedly agreed on last comment) :(

Wearing Galop gives me the same feeling as ballet, classical music and dressage. It's beautiful, high class and refined. When you smell it, you understand. It's on another level, a whole different ball game than most of the other fragrances out there. But then it must be cold and aloof? It's not. Galop is very cute and lovable. It makes me think about the colour and texture of an apricot, with its soft hues of pink and orange. And of course horses. I love horses and the smell of horse tack, so I'm biased towards leather scents. I don't find Galop masculine. This scent is for classy horse girls. Leathery, boozy, fruity, yes, but also smooooth, soft, delicate. Like drifting inside a light pink cloud. Magical.

Sniffed this jewel last night at Neiman's and was very impressed with direction that Hermes took on this scent. Its very unisex, the men's counter is where it was shown, giving that it states "for Women" but that's a very misleading statement. I tested several that night but this just stood out as something different and coming from Hermes that was a plus! Its very boozy starting out then in minuets it takes flight with the rose and leather notes showing off the fragrance...Saffron does round out this scent along with the suede and rose coming together to really put this scent into outter space. Price point is around $210+, the bottle is really a nice as well....

Mouthwatering combination of quince and osmanthus with a sparkling rose. Now that is how you make a fruity floral which brings a smile on my face! From underneath all this, a fine buttery soft leather is adding some character; the leather is borrowed from the amazing Cuir d'Ange and I am happy about that. The heart is still pretty and it's focused more on the flowers (especially on the rose) while the osmanthus still brings a bit of freshness. I don't get any leather in the late dry down but I do get sort of an expensive rose soap feeling. I'd say this is unisex leaning a bit feminine, more so in the last part. It's a lively and happy perfume. 8.5/10

Extraordinary...It's a huge love for me. If anyone is looking for an edgy rose with an attitude, you should try this. I have to tell you that leather is very dominant but the beautiful Turkish Rose, osmanthus and saffron are balancing it perfectly. It's a unisex perfume leaning towards feminine. And the presentation is 100% exquisite, what one expects from Hermes. You are getting what you are paying for, both the juice and the box. Longevity is above average, long lasting and sillage is an arm's length. I personally can wear it all year round.

So equestrian. I love it for its authenticity. I can’t imagine this is for everyone but if you are a leather enthusiast then it’s phenomenal. A dry, newly polished, sable saddle for a regal stallion. It’s completely unisex but has some powdery accents and frills that add a refined and aristocratic character. This is the type of fragrance that leaves the perfect impression without the wearer saying anything, like an effortlessly perfect posture. It’s completely different to bel ami which is more aged and rustic.

This smells like I’m one of the 1% being driven around Monte Carlo in my stupidly expensive, brand new car. A window into near unattainable luxury. I probably have a villa here for when I’m feeling social, but more estates than I could possibly count. I do not need a film studio to put me up, thank you very much. I’m too good to be around mere mortals. Stand up straight, polish those diamonds, freshen those fillers and live the best life, you beautiful, perfect thing. Or at least SMELL like you do.

It is my new love. I love only few oriental types of fragrances, it is one of them. The opening is a little plain, and within could minutes, the opulent, seducted rose starts to bloom. The leather is nice, and does not dominate. I can smell some bergamot/citrus here. There is some sweet note in drydown, probably amber. I don't see resemblance to Armany Si, nor to Kelly Galeche. I had KG, and it does not have the airy quality of this perfume. It is a galop, this perfume open perfectly to show it.

Rose and smokey leather. you'll get rose during the whole dry down, mixing with a fruity trail, and some smoke. I might say cigars smoke, the good ones. and hints of leather, not cuir de russie, but high end quality leather. a woman in the best cashmere sweater and riding boots would wear it on a fall windy day after a walk in her never-ending acres property. wanna smell like a lady, try it, if you can find it. It took me quite some time to put my hands on a bottle of this.

I sprayed quite a bit of this on at the Hermes boutique today. Gorgeous and I would say more unisex than some of their allegedly unisex fragrances (but then, as a man, I am not afraid of rose). Suede (more than leather), rose, and some fruity notes, but everything is so soft as to be barely there. As someone else said, maybe I, too, am anosmic to this scent but within an hour I couldn’t smell it at all, whereas other scents I had sprayed on were still going strong.

Sometimes when I first try fragrances, I “see” the scent as a physical place. For me, Galop is an enormous, glass atrium, filled with dazzling sunshine. This is a beautiful, classic fragrance that is refreshingly different than almost everything else I own (I tend to collect incense-y, smoky, dirty leather scents). I own half a dozen leathers, but none sparkle like this — and while I usually run screaming in the opposite direction of any rose, this is delectable.

Galop Hermes is a luxurious leather scent along with some fruity and floral notes. It’s perfect for any special moment in both day and night time. However, I cannot imagine how long and deep if it just came in edt and/or edp, because I found that its longevity and projection are quite moderate on my skin. Anyway, Galop is a masterpiece of leather fragrance which I recommend for those who love a leather scent or a scent from leather products.

Hands down, I love this perfume. The leather is not very prominent on me. It opens upp fresch with yusu before the sweet quince comes in. After a while the safron and rose is the mainplayers. Not a soapylike strong rose, but one that is mild and barely there. From this point it is quite linear and just lovely. This is a scent I wear at daytime, to work. After the third test I bought a full bottle. It’s overpriced but I just had to have it.

As I put the scent on the top notes that I detected was leather and lemon. It took 30min for the rose to slowly show up extremely nicely and as it settled on my skin the leather took a backseat and the quince, rose and a bit if the safran really stuck. I thought it was a spupringy light fragrance which you would not expect with the notes mentioned. It stayed on my skin for a good 8 hours and I would say the projection is mild.

i am OBSESSED with this one!! top and middle notes give it that edgy and coolness. definitely a cool girl scent but not in the way of like versace blue jeanz, its edgier and more mature!!!! like u own a car lol i probably will never buy it cuz its soooo $$$$ this is a LITTLE similar to sdw coney island baby, how it smells after hours is different tho, but wont buy sdw cuz shes horrible so this is a cool $$$$$$$$ alternative

When I first tried I did not like it but now I understand Galop’s magic. So I am re-writing my review. Galop by Hermes is pure beauty in a bottle... It is leathery rose , soft scent . A little citrusy and a little dusty but not powdery dust. I get lots of compliments when wearing it. When I smell it, I imagine a woman in her early 30’s, her outfit is old money. She is humble and pretty with innocence smile. I am obsessed.

The top notes of a rarely edited association between quince and rose opens for a strange ballet of the distinctly female turkish rose and strong (male) leather. An amazing game, long lasting and captivating! Regarding the price, I bought only the refill of 125cc for roughly the same price as the 50cc bottle. Therefore, for an extract of this quality, affordability was not really a problem for me.

Leather and jammy rose blended so beautifully you can't tell where one ends and the other begins. Rounded and curved like a well worn leather handbag or a delicate glove with the finest stitching. The scent lingers for hours, persistent yet demurer with a lingering trail. Its lures others to you. The sultry quiet type with a powerful resolve. A steel fist inside a velvet glove.

My friend gifted me this last year. I was not sure about it so I read the notes. Opening notes were very sweet, joyful and the juvenile kind which brought the divine feel. The smoothness, sweetness and elegance in it that is covered with the delicious juicy berries making this classy scent very breezy, feminine and sexy.

Wow, what a gorgeous fragrance! I tend to love most of the Hermes fragrances but this is a stand out. I get a lot of citrus in this - which I normally don't love - but the dry down is so light and beautiful. This may replace Hiris as my signature scent! Longevity is great - up to 14 hours.

This is leather and rose combined to perfection! It creates a sensual aura that floats around you relentlessly, but its class and sophistication all the way! Christine Nagel is doing special things with Hermes and I'm ready to follow her wherever she leads. Try this one, its unforgettable.

For me Galop d'Hermes is the smell of the Kentucky Derby winner (leather, dirt, roses). It is a special fragrance. I have and love Kelly Caleche and was afraid it would be too much like it, but it is absolutely not. I love Galop too!

very soft and powdery with the hint of citrus, hint of saffron and hint of osmanthus in the top then a soft close leather; this is a wisp of a scent, not a powerhitter, not real floral, just a kid glove on a spring day

This is a beautiful rose and leather combo. Very classy and sophisticated. I bought it from fragrancenet, but the 50ml and the refills are available on the Hermes website (at least in the U.S.).

Warm, bright, fruit, leather smell. Nicely is developing on the body. Not dark scent. Rose with Quince give nice and hight bright :) Very much, very much expensive.

Wow... A phenomenal scent. Like others have said... Unlike anything else out there. The quince blends well with the light leather and rose combo... Wonderful.
