Hermessence Myrrhe Eglantine

Myrrhe Eglantine is a contemplative, and almost secretive scent that I have grown to love (I think someone else used the word "ancient", and I totally agree). I tried it out initially in store, but wasn't sure. Then I got a tester from a store and began really appreciating it and wound up buying a full-size bottle. I find it has an interesting dried rose quality, almost dusty (but in a good way). It is not at all Rose Ikebana, rather a more resinous, preserved kind of rose scent (but not like a rose soap or other traditional rose - I think that's the eglantine part). I think the attitude is closest to Osmanthe Yunnan, though they smell nothing alike - it's the aforementioned contemplative element. It is a very personal scent, so don't expect it to announce your presence to anyone. There is something I've found beguiling and intriguing about Myrrhe Eglantine, and it's the scent that made me realize how much I like Christine Nagel (which I should have noticed already since my top three fragrances are Agar Ebene, Violette Volynka, and Cedre Sambac). I find this also pairs wonderful with Cardamusc and Musc Pallida, with the prior adding depth and the latter extending the life. It also layers very well with Agar Ebene. I'll try it over Rose Ikebana in the spring to see if that works. I don't think this is a mass appeal fragrance (though I doubt many people would dislike it), particularly for men (I'm male), but it has brought me great scent-joy. It has a typically short life on its own, though as others have noted, it lasts considerably longer on clothing. I've found Myrrhe Eglantine to be a rare all-season floral (on my skin), I think particularly due to the way it easily layers with adjacent florals.

I confess, I'm a rose frag-a-holic. Certainly I have at least 120 rose centered bottles in my stash. This needs to join my stash. Hermes is a lovely consumer friendly line. Call them and ask for samples, they will oblige. I wanted to sample Musc Pallida, but I guess they don't have samples of MP. I hope they'll have them before the holiday season arrives. I did remember that I had not yet sampled Myrrhe Eglantine and requested a sample. I'm wearing ME now, and savoring this beautiful composition. ME reminds me of my favorite guilty pleasure. When my wonderful DH brings me a bouquet of roses, there are often a few loose petals in the paper wrapper. I obsessively roll those petals in my fingers until they're thoroughly eviscerated. Then I compulsively sniff my fingers for the next few hours LOL. ME is exquisite. I'm thinking of a question that might be asked on the game show Jeopardy: "What smells like perfection?" The answer is "What is Myrrhe Eglantine".

[DEC. 2020] Hermessence's Myrhh Eglantine: Myrhh Eglantine smells of real green-tea English Rose, the balsam of holy church myrhh, and that light air of luxury leather! But its the most fully realised rose I've smelled from all I've tried even after all the florals I've had. You can smell the plant stem, and rose water dripping from this church rose. Beautifully delicate, airy, and declaring of its presence in the vicinity with its bright champagne-tea effervescence. And yet it doesnt smell like a "perfume" perfume. It's wonderfully real and tangible. That's what I like so much about Eglantine-- that perfect held illusion that what you smell isnt just perfume but really, a myrhh'd champagne toned tea-rose. (UPDATE: Don't expect a rose that has a touch of "weight" to this, that would be Armani's Oud Royal, or Amouage's Jubilation 25. Otherwise, if you want a light, breezy air of luxe boozy rose? Myrrh Eglantine is for you.)

@antonoan Myrrhe Elgantine, to my nose, smells nothing at all like Creed Royal Oud. I have a bottle of Royal Oud and wear that fragrance every other day, and i would never once even think of associating it with this Hermes. To me, Myrrhe Elgantine smells like a slightly more complex and natural version of one of the feminine-leaning Un Jardin fragrances. It would be an awesome spring fragrance for a woman, but it isn't for me. Update: The longevity is genuinely excellent, and once it's been on the skin after a few hours, it turns more unisex. I still wouldn't personally buy it though because it smells feminine during the time that it is still projecting.

This is a very special rose perfume. It is not scent of the Rosa Damascena or Centifollia. It is Eglantine - the wild 5 petal rose flower, which produces fruit in the autumn. We have a lot of them in Russia. This fragrance smells like flowers and fruits mixed together. My mom made a jam of it and I know how fruits smell very very well. It is fantastic that I found it in Hermes top line fragrance. Unbelievable: a very special rose fragrance, unique, nothing smells like this. PS: nothing to do with Galop in my view.

I have a 4ml sample and I’m treasuring every moment! It’s classy and sensual and to my nose has a slight boozy dry down. I usually wear it of an evening at home snuggling up on the lounge watching a movie or laying in bed reading. Something about this parfum has a mature feeling without being targeted or made For a mature woman. I am 24 and find this enchanting. Unique ***** This is so different that it merits five stars for originality. I wear perfume for myself around the house. I wouldn’t wear Lush Blend for those rare occasions when I’m out in public—except on the beach, for it invokes the scent of salt, sand, and seaweed. If you’re looking for a crowd pleaser, pass it up. If you’re looking for interesting—then, by all means, especially if you’d like a classy rendition of the briny ocean.

This is absolutely stunning to me! Its amazing how something that's been done a thousand times before can smell so new and fresh. A vivid, dewy rose held up by a beautiful myrrhe. Have received several compliments, not that it's a deciding factor in whether or not I'll buy it ... but it helps. Color me 100% impressed and in love.

A natural rose on a deep and mysterious layer of myrrh. Myrrhe Eglantine is not heavy, sweet or overwhelming and is perfectly unisex. If you like rose and amber fragrances, this should be right up your alley. I'm surprised this isn't more popular here, as it is well composed, has long lasting-power and is fairly unique.

omg this is so good! the rose smells so natural, and the drydown is all about myrrh with the rose still there somewhere in the background. its simple in its composition yet still feels complex and well put together. i love it so much

The name seems misleading as the myrrh note is somewhere in the corner. This is very rosy, very floral, almost aquatic, myrrh only adds a hint of warmth. It still stays very subtle, not a dense warm perfume at all.

I get the rose and myrrhe, but my partner (not a fraghead) loves that it smells like "bubble bath". It's not aldehydic or soapy, but other commentators have mentioned bubble bath as well!

It's a magical scent, makes me feel like an Egyptian goddess. It's so luxurious, other-wordily, and ancient-feeling, in a way I've never felt with any other perfume.

Three years ago, I feel in LOVE with this -- now, it's just a like. But it's a very VERY strong like -- a non-cloying rose with a strong resinous base, and, well, not much else! It's quite plain, simple and uncomplicated in its make-up, but it still works. Obviously, I know there's about 30 to 50 fillers and synth boosters in here, but notes and accords wise, there are only two major ones, and they pair well together. I can't see myself reaching for this too often, and if I'm being honest, I might suggest it to my wife to see how she feels about it, but all in all, not too spectacular or even noteworthy -- but I can't find a single complaint about it, either...

I found this Myrrhe Eglantine very pleasant. To me, there was a smell of indefinable sweet spices associated with an airy floral note, also very soft. I was expecting to find something close to nutmeg or at least a mixture of spices in the pyramid (which however does not seem complete) but I guess it is indeed the myrrh which brings that spicy side. Softness and lightness are the key words here. A very pretty perfume but, again, definitely not worth the price.

Didn't like this initially but did find it to smell quite interesting. The whiff was fine, but once on my skin, smelled a lot like red wine. Sour, tart, bitter -- eugh. But now, almost 5 hours later, it has transformed into this uplifting floral. Like a cozy but exclusive party, like an art gallery opening. So good. The leather on the cap is appealing. In fact, I think the dry down smells like the color on it. Hmm.

Very very pretty, but I really wish it was stronger! This is a super inoffensive, office-safe, lovely rose with a hint of myrrh. Unfortunately it doesn't last more than 2 hours on skin, and during that time, has intimate projection. Performance is a little bit better on clothes, but barely. I'm happy to own a travel size, as there are some occasions where this is ideal. I will not be purchasing a FB though.

Hermes Myrrhe Eglantine (2018) - rose leather - I’ll have the perfumer introduce it as I think the description fits. “This legendary material evokes the world of desert caravans and the former perfume routes. A myrrh, then more precious than gold, reinvented and reworked around rosehip, a wild, fresh and tangy rose that never surrenders.” #christine.nagel To me, it’s a fresh dewy rose and leather.

This is one of the most beautiful renditions of myrrh and something I see myself getting... I think it's going to be one of the four in the set. I usually like my resin-featured scents to be a little dirty and a little, well, stanky, but this, I can certainly make an exception. Perfectly balanced and layered. 4.5 stars (doesn't project enough for mine), worth sampling and probably buying...

A very pretty, sweet rose scent with a prominent vanilla in the mix. Myrrh comes out during the drydown, and like others describe, I agree there’s a dusty element. But combined with the vanilla, this rose leans dry but sweet, almost gourmand. There’s nothing challenging in this mainstream scent. I really like Myrrhe Eglantine, I’m testing from a dauber but would love to experience a spray.
