Tutti Twilly d'Hermès

Alright - after over a month of having this - I can finally conclude: it is a love! Here's why... At first, my nose was not ready for the note perfect, photorealistic lychee to mingle with a ginger flower accord. Ginger flower, is quite different to the zesty and zingy scent of ginger (the root). The flower has a gel like liquid which can be squeezed out of it. To my luck, I have ginger flowers growing all around my garden as my land lady is very fond of the odd shaped flowers (a little to phallic in shape for my liking, but us women do like to see those shapes sometimes and perhaps she's growing them in her old age for the same reason haha! I shall check my silly sense of humour at the door!). When this gel like substance is squeezed out of the flower, it has a very abstract and odd scent which is both sweet but musky - it's weird! But it's one of those scents that you keep sniffing more and more out of intrigue. After I familiarised myself with ginger flowers, I began to understand this perfume a little bit better. I also think, ginger flower (unlike ginger root) behaves differently on each persons skin chem - which is very sad for those who cannot jive with it (you lot are the ones perceiving cat pee and sweaty pits). Now, to the perfume. When you first spray this you get a BLAST of lychee. But not just lychee, I personally get a little bit of raw mango, guava, and papaya too! The lychee is the most prominent of them all. It is bright, neon and electric! Tart, juicy and realistic lychees that had been refrigerated! Beautiful. It's the exact colour of the bottle. As it begins to dry down is when it gets tricky for some. The ginger flower begins to emerge. And it becomes kind of pulp like. Think of lychee that's in a can with sugar syrup - and you blend it without taking the lychee out and create a lychee pulp and accidentally - some ginger flowers jump in to the concoction (I am aware this is a strange image but bear with me). In this gingery-lychee pulp, the guava and raw mango start having a tug of war with the ginger flower for prominence. You can quite literally see different victors on different days, based on how many sprays and time of day you wore. It still never behaves the same, twice in a row. It remains a chameleon. But I do not understand why Hermes thougth it was wise to release a quintisentially summer time fragrance at the tail end of summer? Had they released this at the end of spring - I am certain more people would have loved this. To me, luckily, there is no cat pee/sweaty pits. But I do get lychee-ginger pulp which is on a stove or under the heat of the sun, which slowly cooks and then almost reach a hard toffee like consistency - and no it is not burnt either. Beautiful work of art by Christine Nagel - a fruity-floral that is unlike any other in its genre. Hermes has done it, again!

Tutti Twilly d’Hermes seems to be a very polarising scent. As a huge fan of Twilly Eau Poivree I was intrigued so I decided to get an official 2 ml sample with a recent Hermes order. The opening is absolutely beautiful. Zingy, watery, fresh, uplifting and fruity in a very tropical way. The litchy note is very intense. I love very much the energising opening. After about 10 minutes it transforms a bit, moving into a sweet musky, gingery direction. All the brightness of the opening is gone, but it’s nonetheless pretty. It stays like this until 6-7 hours later when it starts becoming a skin scent and disappears. Luckily, I don’t get the cat urine references that lots of people mention in the comments below. At least not during the winter temperatures! For me it’s a very youthful, exuberant, colourful, exotic type of scent. I am not saying that those comments are not valid, everyone experiences fragrances differently, but I seem to be in the fortunate group whose noses don’t detect that aspect! It won’t be a full bottle for me at the moment because the way I see Twilly Tutti d’Hermes is more as a delightful spring/early summer fragrance. I will keep an eye on it and if I can get it during springtime on a good deal, I’ll get a bottle for sure. I really like it! As a first impression, performance seems to be fairly moderate, noting outstanding, but it’s not the kind of scent without substance. It is rather charming and elegant, not common or boring. I will revisit my sample as the spring approaches and the temperatures are rising before pulling the trigger on buying a full bottle. Will update.

I've read all the reviews here and wanted to test this scent. This scent turned out very nice on my skin when I tested at the Hermes beauty boutique. It's an exotic scent with lychee and ginger flower notes, and yes this combo might be little bit messy. I could understand why people told this scent smell like cat urine. In the real life, lychee has strong smell and ginger flower also. If you has chance to smell the ginger flowers, you should try. It has little bit fragrant smells like cat urine and middle note of this scent is full note with ginger flower combine with little bit alcoholic lychee note (sometimes too alcoholic like lychee note in Chloe EDP and Delina Exclusifs) also the powdery muskiness from the base. That's reason why I called it "messy perfume". At the end, I still got it because they were on promotion of the mall called Takashimaya in Vietnam and I scored some points for future leather goods buying at Hermes Vietnam boutique, also I bought it cause of the packaging. Tutti Twilly is one of my most favorite packaging from Hermes. I'm happy and no regrets even some reviews made didn't want to buy at the beginining. Tutti Twilly is... unusual. As soon as I sprayed it I loved it - an immediate lychee bomb, and since lychee is one of my favourite notes/scents, it's not surprising that I was enamoured by it at once. The ginger is there, but its very subtle in my opinion. The musk is also there, but it is a very clean musk and I don't understand all the armpit/kitty litter/cat pee comments, although I have never owned cats so I suppose I don't know what those last two smell like. I expect, therefore, this is a perfume that is very dependent on body chemistry. Try and test it on the skin and see how it performs over the next few hours instead of just a quick sniff on tester paper (this is, of course, good advice for all fragrances, but it's particularly important for this one). It has a powdery drydown, and that coupled with the juicy fruit top notes make this seem slightly childish, a little like something a teenager would wear, but the musk gives it a bite that just manages to elevate it above teenage body sprays. Even if it does smell a little like a body spray, it's the expensive sort that the rich popular girl would wear and you'd look on in envy with your supermarket £2 sprays.

I am so surprised by this perfume, we came a long ride but now I love it. I was so excited when it was first launched but I was disappointed because I loved the opening but than it turned into a scent reminiscent of the room after gym class...very unpleasant and sweaty. I tried it again a few months later, still same dirty scent on the dry down, this was during winter. I tried it today again out of curiosity and I don't know if it's the scent that has changed or my perception of it but it bloomed to be a beautiful composition. I sprayed it on my skin and it smells even better on me! The opening is the same but the dry down I get something a bit bitter and herbal reminds me of the grapefruit peel with ginger and clean white florals in the background that reminds me of the OG Twilly. The deep dry down is somewhat musky but more powdery and even a hint of woody like sandalwood on my skin. It smells elegant and refined but a little bit eclectic. This scent suits my personality so well. If it will stay the same during the colder months this could be my new signature scent.
