Twilly d'Hermès Eau Ginger

HAHA oh man, you'll get a good laugh from this one. Ok, so I order 20+ samples trying to chase the discontinued Dior Pondichery, which has a similar profile which includes ginger, and that's how I arrived here at Hermes Twilly Ginger. At first opening, I knew it was something grand. I could smell it from inches away and it spoke to a memory that I couldn't place, but I was excited. It screamed 'the best spring day you've ever smelled' in a strong but well-formulated way. No alcohol, just a blast of sweet floral that smelled... expensive. Head turning. It's got... something, you know? Depth, sweetness, floral, hint of ginger... It's a strong deep smell that screamed at me. But I knew I had smelled it somewhere before and it was connected to a childhood memory. Spring cleaning. God, I hope not pine sol! Nope.... Hm. Today it hit me like a ton of bricks. Original Snuggle fabric softener from the 80's. Holy crap. People keep saying clean laundry? YUP. They're right. It's not the Blue Sparkle snuggle sheets of today- the original Snuggle from 1980's. I even used to have the Snuggle teddy bear. For spring cleaning we would open all the windows and doors and wash all the bedding/linens from the winter- the dryer would be going all day and the wind would push this sweet dryer sheet smell back into the house. Those are the only dryer sheets my mom would buy because she loved the smell. HAHA oh man, now that I know what it is I can't un-smell it, which isn't terrible but now doesn't make me think 'expensive perfume.' I will however happily spritz with more confidence- I do love that smell, and now that I've identified it I doubt many people will have an issue with it. I can't believe I bought it before placing the memory- ah well, it's still nice. Joke's on me haha. As for the rest- this surprisingly has a fantastic finish and drydown. Given the association to soap/fabric softener, this doesn't have that disappointing 'soapy' drydown. It eventually gets to a sweet creamy cedar with that hint of peony- and the longevity is massive. I do paper strip tests as part of a multi-step process to choose a fragrance so I have all the paper strips from my last batch of samples taped and labeled to my wall like the unibomber- and six days later this one holds well enough to distinguish- which puts it in the top 25% of samples in terms of longevity. For the curious, I also ordered the original Twilly without ginger, and it is different enough to not remind me of Snuggles- it has a greener/grassier drydown that isn't as sweet (though is still sweeter than most of my perfumes FWIW.) To the people who already bought it and are reading this, I hope I didn't ruin it for you. But there it is- 1980's Snuggle fabric softener sheets. I'm still going to wear the hell out of it though lol. ETA: I have no regrets- this is now my daily signature fragrance, and everyone keeps asking me what it is, and why it smells so familiar. I just tell them haha- I LOVE this more and more every day.

I did not expect to like this perfume but I will forever be grateful to the lady at the perfume counter for steering me towards Hermes. I love freshie scents but truly high quality freshies are hard to come by. Enter Eau Ginger. This perfume is complex, yet simple. Spicy and warm, yet sweet and energizing. Full of youth but teeters on the edge of old timey. It is both floral and masculine all at once. A work of art. This is the scent I've been looking for. After the first spray, I immediately thought that it might be too youthful for me as a middle aged woman, however, it quickly develops into something more interesting. Straight off the bat, I can smell peony and perhaps a slight tuberose that dares to peak through oh so occasionally. And then comes the candied ginger. It is sweet and playful but the contrast with the peony gives way to maturity. The ginger smell never really arrives for me but the spiciness and warmth of ginger does. However, it is never too warm or heavy as the candied ginger and peony balances it out beautifully. And just when you think you have an idea of where the scent is going, the cedar makes a grand entrance and changes the game entirely. It is slightly masculine, earthy and fresh but in contrast with the ongoing peony and candied ginger it creates perfection. I would not put this down as a unisex scent because it is undeniably feminine and the balance here is truly incredible. Bravo to Christine Nagel. The dry-down on my skin is something out of this world. It is where all the ingredients come together in a soft and subtle unison. I had 3 compliments from strangers after the first spray at the store. At home, I was spending some time in my study, left the room and when I returned, I was met with the lingering scent of the most excuisite smell. Not overbearing but a subtle scent of class, luxury and mystery. I edited this review to add that I don't feel that this perfume belongs in the Twilly range, however, I suppose I could see why they would market it as such. This perfume is the daytime mischevious, enigmatic sister to the sultry, enigimatic night-time Barenia.

At rush hour the other day I stepped onto the metro and could distinctly smell ginger - clean crispy ginger- it was a very warm day and it smelled refreshing and intoxicating. I started to wrack my brain ...."Ginger?! Who, what? Where?" and the only thing I could come up with this. After work I raced to the store and sprayed this on a strip - "Yes! That is what I was smelling this morning!" I put the strip next to my computer and went about my life...A few hours later I get very strong wafts of a giant bar of finely milled white soap. Intense wafts....Amazing clean , crispy and sparkling. The next morning the perfume was still radiating soap. I ordered it immediately. I personally don't have enough soapy fragrances in my life. So my review - the ginger is fresh spicy at first blast - then it morphs a bit into a sparking ginger-ale on ice - a bit sweeter but still sparkling - as it dries down the ginger becomes more dry and spicy and the citrus, peony and musks meld together to create a stunning fresh soapy smell. This makes sense because peony, citruses a bit of spice and cedar and musks have been blended for like a century now to create what we think of as "giant bar of white soap." Because of the fattiness/sparkling aspect I get in this soapy smell I definitely think I am getting massive whiffs of aldehydes which are not indicated in the notes pyramid here but I definitely smell them...I think I might make it my signature scent - I don't think this is a warm weather only scent - I also think that the ginger may have more longevity in the winter versus the heat.

I've never had any of the Twilly scents, and I never sampled any. Based on the fact that I already have lots of tuberose in my collection, and I adore roses but I am not too keen on patchouli, I decided to blindly ordered this one. It arrived today, and it made me smile. The bottle looks so small but so adorable, the colours of the ribbon against the while cap makes me think of sunshine. Upon first spraying it I got the candy ginger. It is not a fresh zingy ginger, I was expecting it to resemble the Origins Ginger Essence, but it doesn't. That is is freshly shaved root, while this is crystallized ginger. Peony came after it, and the candy ginger melted into the floral scent. At this point, I was still loving my new perfume. And, not long after, the perfume turned fresh, as in fresh drying in the wind laundry, but thankfully I didn't experience the detergent others have mentioned. This is probably when the cedar kicked in. It's still very pleasant, but it lacks the energy it had in beginning. Silage is moderate, lasting power similar. I find this scent elegant for daytime, clean enough for work environments, playful without being juvenile, overall I think I would use it quite a bit. I have a quite large collection and it doesn't smell like anything else I own. I am a fan of Hermes in general, this was a pleasant surprise for me, so now I really want to try the other two in the series.

I love this scent - I think it's very unique and complex and I don't think there's anything I've smelled that smells anything like it. It smells the closest to the original Twilly fragrance, but maybe more of an "intense" version because it isolates some of the predominant notes. It still extremely balanced though, so while it does smell gingery, it's still quite floral and the sweetness reads more as citrusy with just a slight spicy punch. It gives me vibes of drinking lemon seltzer on a hot summer day. My main complaint is that a little does NOT go a long way. Normally I can spray perfume at this price point 2-3 times and I will be good for several hours, but when I do that with this one, you can barely smell it so I end up spraying it 4 times directly on my skin for the scent to permeate. I have read in other reviews that this could just be because the bottle I have is new. If you're like me and crave laundry scents especially in winter, then this is the fragrance for you. When it's bitterly cold in January and all the leafless trees are covered in frost, I get fed up with all the Christmas sweets and vanillas and crave something fresh and spring-like. This Twilly is also a bit cheeky, which I really like. At the same time, this kind of laundry scent has just the right kind of aloof elegance that isn't childish or average. It starts citrusy with that invigorating, fresh laundry scent, followed by an outburst of sweet, yet cool ginger, unleashes peony and cedar in just the right amount, and ends as a reminder of the summer warmth of the original Twilly. Goes really well with icy cold, winter sun and the first snowdrops.

after wearing it for a week i already have a dent in it lol design wise i like this the best out of the twilly series, the white bowler hat esque cap and canary colored perfume makes it stand out to me! it just smells like those hard ginger candies you buy at the corner stores which is very nostalgic for me living in nyc and going to this little korean spot with my grandma and getting lotto tickets... any who this is a ginger lovers dream, and the top note of peony is ok, in addition the cedar in the dry down is barely noticeable as the ginger stays throughout the fragrance for me. i disagree with the notion that this is not a scent for warmer seasons, it feels pretty warm

Ginger for the Ginger! I cannot resist ginger everything. This was a blind buy, and it’s exactly what I hoped for. It’s a burst of joy in a frightening, chaotic world. I see reviews that talk about “typical department store blah blah blah.” Maybe my nose is either bourgeois, or highly refined, because I’m able to discern what I enjoy wearing no matter if it’s an oil I bought on Etsy or a debt-creator from Luckyscent. I’m outside in my hot tub with my husband, watching The Big Lebowski and reminiscing. My husband says I smell great; not much else matters! I’m drinking Ginger Beer, so I’m as gingery as can be. It’s a lovely, sunny day.

Where the original Twilly is a rather strong and almost overwhelming scent, this Twilly eau de Ginger is a sparkling, soft, feminine composition of delicious peony, candied ginger and cedar. Immediately upon application, I find it delicious! The peony and ginger are a surprising combination that works very well on my skin and in my nose. Slightly sweet, floral, spicy and fresh but above all feminine! The longevity is very good and the scent develops beautifully into a soft fresh woody cedar scent, without losing its femininity. As far as I'm concerned it’s 10 times better than the original!

My favorite flanker! The opening is very sour ginger with peony and woodsy notes. That’s what you get. Simple yet beautiful for summer. Fresh powdery/soapy floral scent with ginger. And it is based on ginger so you might not like the sharp sour scent. If you did not like the other flankers because they were heavy/ sweet. Try this one. It is the lightest, you get the fresh sourness. If you don’t like powdery mature like scents you will not enjoy it, which is found in many other Hermes fragrances like the La Jardin Sur La Lagune. I personally love it and I’m going to purchase it next summer!

If you used to wear Love, Chloe this one might be a great substitute. I don't really care for the opening, I love the dry down which is soapy (in a modern way). Lasting power is better than average, 8-10 hours, with a strong projection for the first 4h. Given its ginger notes, I mix it with Byredo's Bal D'Afrique body cream - they complement each other. It was an impulse buy, I've been searching for a modern soapy frag for quite a few years and I fell in love the moment I tested it. I just hope they don't discontinue it as it departures quite significantly from the core Twilly line.

You know the time when you just scrubbed off some uncomplimentary scent and need a diversion. Or the time when you felt like you have nothing to wear because nothing fits.. Or the gloomy 'don't want to work' feeling... THIS is a perfect pick you up and transport you into carefree happiness scent. But only if you like ginger. I think candied ginger is exactly what does it for me - this carefree, young happiness. Very good for hot weather too - that ginger pops off the skin and complements the sun. Immediately puts you into a great mood. Love, love, love

Wow. This one is Clean. Like clean clean. Soapy and sunny amd happy and fresh crisp shower gel and strong laundry detergent. It's beautiful! Nice floral and bright sparkling ginger. For some reason, I picture a sparkling scrubbed white laundry room with expensive appliances. Oddly enough... there may be a relatively clean kitty litter box nearby. Someone below mentioned cat piss - maybe I laughed at that too much and now it's in my head. Anyway - very nice but not FB worthy for me. I have enough clean soapy scents. But this one is definitely lovely.

Gosh I love it! This is exactly the clean, fresh, classy, summery scent that ive been looking for all my life. This is the only Twilly version that I tolerate so far. It’s expensive but worthy. The lemon/ginger combo is top tier, it’s refreshing throughout the day, the sweet notes tame it a little bit and make the overall scent lovely. It’s an adorable fragrance, perfect for summer, chic, light and long lasting (at least on my skin). From a teenager to a mature woman, i think it could appeal to a large scale of women.

I guess I'm a Twilly fangirl now. I have the original one, which I love, but I don't reach for it in the summer. In comes Twilly Eau Ginger which definitely shares a lot of the original Twilly DNA, but it's lighter and SO fresh and clean! I'm obsessed. I agree with other reviewers who have said this has a clean laundry scent. It does! It's a super clean laundry smell without smelling like Febreze. I love it and I think it's perfect for summer. It's light and uplifting but still peaceful and calming.

very very clean I love it!! As a soapy fragrance lover I didn't expect to love this, tried a few times be4 purchasing a FB at Sephora it was too candied ginger. But when I bought this last week sprayed it on again, the candied ginger mixed perfectly with the peony floral accord!!!! turns out to be a super super clean and laundry like scent I love it! got complimented today by a friend at hospital! office friendly all year-round, but have to overspray a bit to get the performance!

She is sophisticated yet young, lovely and cozy. Slightly floral blended beautifully with ginger and cedar, she projects well without being offensive. Decent sillage, good lasting power, and a standout among all the 2020 cast-backs to the '80's that seem to be flooding the market. She dares to be different. Not a safe blind buy, though - the ginger and floral may not be for all. Definitely worth checking out if you enjoy unique standout scents for the cooler fall and winter.

Refreshing and warm. Spicy candid ginger without the sweetness. This scent is like a ray of sun in the grey, boring and cold scandinavian winter... January suddenly doesnt seem so gloomy anymore. The top notes is ginger ginger ginger done in the best possible way. The drydown is more like a fine french soap. I love this perfume...I m gonna cherish it every time I wear it. Eau ginger has an uplifting and joyous soul. Longevity and silage are both moderate on me.

Notice the enormous dropoff in 'this perfume reminds me of' after the original Twilly? It's because this is one of the most unique and irreplaceable fragrances ever created. Ride or die, I'm about to buy my second full bottle. Best thing I've ever smelled- people stop me in the street, at the gym, in the grocery store - and ask me what it is. It's the most unique fresh sweet amazing scent and I want to roll around on top of it like a dog. BEST. PERFUME. EVER.

Very aldehydic which is not mentioned in the notes. If you are a fan of strong soapy notes (which I am) you should try this. About the candied ginger...I guess it is there? This perfume is beautiful in its comforting clean sweet soapiness, with a touch of timber, but the ginger would not be the main note here at all. A very optimistic, comforting, pleasant, clean scent with a Solid aldehydic (soapy) side, which again, is strangely omitted in the description.

Feels like a 5-year old’s endless afternoon in the summer sun. This is happiness, freedom, innocence, purity and joy. All at once. It made me smile. Soapy but gentle and bright. The candy stayed throughout and was quite present in the dry down, just enough to not be cloyingly sweet. Intimate projection and moderate longevity on skin. Lasted overnight on clothes. I’d wear this any season and any time, as it is a perfect mood lifter.

I love this one! Quality Hermès fragrance. The opening is quiet fresh and pungent. The drydown is magical. I keep sniffing, and smelling wafts of this great powdery cocktail around me. In January this year it did no do the trick for me but now I am hooked. Almost addictive. Unique, feminine, beautiful, full, fresh. A love. And I find it almost a niche scent. The bottle design is not my favourite but I know it's about the scent:-)

OMG!!!! hermes I loooooove your fragrances they are all so different from eachother and so elegant without shouting out im wearing perfume. I absolutely love this one too. I love little sharp prickling of the ginger without shouting out here I am. You dont smell like ginger but of peonies and clean soap. At the background there is just enough mintiness of the ginger. Such a beautiful feminine fragrance.

My daugher hated it (likes sweet perfumes )so I ended up with a couple of samples.I loved it,I thought the combination of ginger and florals is so invigorating and uplifting as others said.I thought ginger perfums would be spicy but this one is only tingling not bitter,a bit of sour as if there are mild citrusy notes there and the peony is mellow.Loved it.Definetely on my wishlist for the summer.

This was a very surprising find for me for a novel reason. There was a shower gel in the 90ies I was totally obsessed with and I wished they made a perfume of it - to this day I still remembered the smell and when I've tried this I thought wow, this is 100% it! Thanks universe, never saw this one coming. What an absolutely gorgeous composition, I never tire of it.

I really love scents that are fresh and to my pleasant surprise this really captivated me. I came across this perfume by mistake and the first thing that caught me was the ginger with the subtle floral touch of peony that translates into something so fresh, warm and addictive, yet luxurious. I LOVE this flanker. My first stop on the Twilly journey was with Eau Poivree'. However, that drydown is still questionable on me. Then I decided to buy the travel size of Eau Ginger. It smells better on me than Eau Poivree. It is lightly spiced but overall fresh and bright. I look forward to wearing this through all seasons to see how it changes.

This is so beautiful. For me also a little bit vintage and very “enlightened”. In a way as you see strong light coming from the window in the morning when you are starting your day. I used to hate ginger — and I don’t think ginger fragrance works for me. Sniffed and sprayed it on a perfume counter, turns out I love it! I got myself the decant to make sure once again, and I’m planning to get the full sized bottle soon. It has candied ginger aroma (not the raw ginger), and the floral notes make a perfect combo.

I love this perfume! To my nose, it starts off with strong citrus and ginger scents followed by a sweet floral scent after a minute or so. Sillage is moderate and the longevity is good on my skin. Smells wonderful on my clothes too. Smelling this at Sephora made me grab a bottle. Maybe not for everyone but it is for me.

I think it is so pretty and springy and fresh! It can smell a bit astringent initially, but it settles into a fresh peony scent. At the end of the day, I get whiffs of a cozy powdery base that I love so much. I have found myself reaching for this every day since the weather hit spring temperatures.

Beautiful shampoo/soapy musk with a hint of ginger. Great on its own for every day, also perfect for layering to brighten and sparkle up spicy fresh fragrances. Eau ginger with the smallest dab of Amouage Epic 56 is just something else. When I want something soapy and clean, this is the way to go.

This smells so vintage and rich. really love how they added the ginger in it to make it spicier yet it smells quite citrusy as well. Really like it 9/10. I see myself wearing this mostly on warmer days or warmer nights. Makes me feel good and and lifts up my mood as well as confidence.

For some reason, to me it smells like a 60s apartment filled with orange plastic décor or slipping into a little polyester mini dress before jumping into a convertible heading out for a weekend escape. This perfume is way weirder than it looks and very retro. I love it.

I don't care much for the lemony opening, but the drydown is what got to me. This one takes me back to my aunt's home in the Philippines when she does laundry after everyone had had their lunch. That smell of ginger with the soapy, clean laundry... Ah, happy memories.

I decided to purchase a full size bottle after testing a sample of this fragrance today. On my skin it smells so fresh so clean and sweet soapy honey liked. This how I like my hair and my skin smell like. Wish Hermes create shampoo or soap in this scent profile too.

I love Ginger Twilly! So bright, and reminds me of my grandmother's bar soap... I love a soapy fragrance. Perhaps one should smell it in the store before buying it in case they don't like this style of perfume. I find it quite pricey at £50 for 30ml.

Smells like happiness in a bottle, the best summer days when I was a kid, clean and fresh. Maybe it smells like childhood, I dont know why, but it reminds me something from 90s. Beautiful scent, nostalgic, vintage, the best of twilly line.

Ginger candy mixed with a freshness, it sounds odd but it works. Sophisticated but not *mature*, not avant garde but a step out from the norm. Great as an everyday fragrance fantastic lasting power, compliment getter all around 10.

When Niche Snob people start talking about quality perfumes i have a 10ml decant of this female perfume with me , so they can clearly smell what quality is . The realism of notes the sparkle is way better than the price .

Smells like a shirt thats been dosed with fabric conditioner, Sun dried and ironed pressed. Just smells clean, but virtually has no scent trail. Great for that clean gurl aesthetic. Can be cloying if over sprayed.

It actually blew me up after trying a full bottle of it (I bought for my mom!) this perfume is actually really that good with great performance (finally an Hermes that last longer than 5 hours lol!)

This fragrance reminded me of shampoo but in a complex and classy way. The first time I was introduced to it, my sister was wearing it. It's a total youthful summer scent that also smells expensive

Very rich and uplifting fragrance. Drydown reminds me a bit of Too Much... Champs Elysees by Guerlain. After 6+ hours I can still smell it. Loved Too Much and love Twilly Eau Ginger as well.

It look me so long to sample this because the original Twilly isn't my jam. But wow...absolutely lovely. Fresh, watery, with a subtly sweet ginger twist. Clear Hermes DNA here.

Low key obsessed with this clean soapy slightly sweet yet very crisp and zesty at the same time Hermes gem! It gives comfort and clean feeling! Absolute LOVE from me!

I love this perfume. I got a sample and wore it, it blends well with my body chemistry. It’s subtle yet uplifting. Definitely can smell the peony in it.
