Un Jardin Sous la Mer

Absolutely fascinated with the scent. Such a fresh and unique departure from all the vanilla variations! I appreciate no vegetables in it too. And no milk. I love the bitter mineral scent which lifts you up instead of placing you into a comfort zone. I am impressed by how many people dislike the scent. Not a single wow review I found. I kind of like that! To me, this scent is captivating, different, it is not the scent that “I want to love”. It is the scent that I failed to ignore! To my nose it has nothing to do with bathroom smells. But I must admit - it is NOT banana, vanilla, tobacco, milk. It has character and spine. Like I am alone on the abandoned beach, checking my social media just to see the blast of downvotes. I put away my cellphone and walk on the shoreline - tall and alone. Disapproved and content with who I am! And after this walk I will go to have a nice meal with CARBS and wake up thin next morning 🤩 This kind of vibe

tiare is a very sensitive and beautiful note, it is still a gardenia at the end of the day though so the scent isnt exactly all the way “clean” . many mainstream houses have yet to step away from the terracotta or yves rocher monoi formula of opulence and coconutty amber sweetness when it comes to it . i love jardin sous la mer, for the reasons other people have mentioned . its not typically sweet, but theres an odd savory aspect beside the lightly decadent tiare . the nutty scent is similar to raw shea butter in my opinion . its still in hermes or french tradition, not too gussied up or trying too hard . if you like sea notes and white flowers its worth it to test . unisex in the way that kelley calache is worn by some men . i kinda picture a white horse on the beach with this one . i tried ‘Eau de Rhubarbe Ecarlate’ from nagel a couple years ago, this style felt familiar here

To me it smells like a lush bathbomb or pez candies at first, then dries down to a very light sea-like clean scent, also it's quite soapy in the drydown. I like it, it's unique for today's standards.. edit: actually, I LOVE it now..Woah such a special scent..and it's very long lasting! But I understand why it's so polarizing, it is a weird scent and there's something very austere about it. I always wanted to try demeter's funeral home and i wouldn't be suprised if it smelt a bit similar to this edit 2: scary part is that I wont even deny that the smell of this perfume is VERY reminiscent of a gas station toilet, but in a clean way lol? Still I like it more and more, to be honest I think I have good associations with gas station toilets because my *dEaR* father wouldn't allow me to pee until he felt like it was time to stop at one #traumatized

Having read all the negative reviews I was prepared for the worst when I gave Sous la Mer a try - and wow, was I surprised: I expected something repelling and instead found a beauty. But rather then being just pretty there was something in it that caught my attention and it took me a while to put the finger on it: Sous la Mer is one of the rare perfumes that, upon smelling, give me a tactile sensation. I knew that from Dior’s Dune: Whenever smelling this I can nearly feel hot sand running through my fingers. Sous la Mer evokes a similar reaction but here it is the salty-sticky feeling of dried seawater on your skin after a long sunny day at the beach. I find it incredibly creative and yet easily wearable and I immediately broke my rule not to buy any full bottles this year.

if you know, you know. not really underwater because Tiare is a flower and Tamanu a nut (used in Polynesian medecin in oil form, very spécial scent), but if you have been to Polynesia you will know. very unique, very modern. Entering a high end luxury French Polynesia Hôtel, surrender by Tiare and a nearly woody vibes from the Tamanu oil, and the Pacific Ocean nearby (the metallic, oceanic notes) not mass appealing, very niche. i am stucked on how nice and différent it is, and how the perfum master did it. waow day time, sunny tropical, polynesian wear. speachless.

People are tripping in these comments😮 This scent smells so good, it’s fresh, bright, clean, it’s perfect for summer and hot weather. It has a oceanic smell but not in a fishy smell type of way, actually thats what gives it depth and allows it to avoid the generic type. It lasts moderately as after a couple of hours i only smell it on my clothes however it lasts longer this way. Overall Jardin sous la mer is a good addition to the Jardin line as it is a very unique scent for this brand and totally matches the vibe from this specific line. It’s a success for me.

For me, this is a masterpiece. I absolutely can associate for the deep ocean greens and mosses and stones. Also I smell the mineral breeze, walking along the shore. Not in the list, but the head scent reminds me of a little leaf plant, Plectranthus, we used to call mosquito-repellent flower. I adore this new little gem. Bought a 100 ml, before it disappears like all the good ones lately. Give it a chance! So beautiful, and so different than all the patchoulies and vanillas and berries nowdays.

I am surprised by the amount of dislikes. I tried it in Sephora and SA warned me that people do not like it because they don't know what to expect and that they are scared by the salt notes. All three of us really enjoyed this scent. I sprayed it on my hand and it was refreshing sparkling tonic water with some lemon and see salt. So well done that I am surprised by comparison to goats urine and othe derogatory terms. I only whish it lasted longer. So refreshing and sparkling luxury scent.

The name promises a garden under the sea and this is exactly what I received. It's clean and mineral and watery, not in the generic "blue" cologne way. To me, it is like what you imagine the ocean smells like before you've ever actually smelled it, that idealized, clear, blue water version. It just smells like being somewhere beautiful. No algae, no fish, no animalic notes, no synthetic. I am extremely picky when it comes to marine fragrances and this one is just "wow".

Although it's not listed in the official notes, the opening is dominated by a vibrant mandarin scent. It's incredibly fresh and feels like the perfect summer fragrance. This DNA definitely deserves to be released as a stronger concentration, preferably as an Eau de Parfum or Parfum. It has the potential to challenge the throne of Terre d'Hermès.

Got a sample of this and buying it the moment it hits discounters. Maybe im a bit biased due to nostalgic reasons but it smells exactly like church (in the best way possible) with a lightly citrus undertone. Truly beautiful stuff. Give it a try yourself before you judge based off the reviews.

One of the cases when olfactory experience doesn’t match the bouquet description at all: I smell almost no flowers, just acidic lemony and salty tonic-like cocktail, that later transitions into something nice and incensy. This sort of sweet doesn’t give me headaches, unlike most flowers.

Please, get yourself to the Hermes store and give it a try. I personally love it. But reading the reviews, I can only wear it to bed and wash it off the next morning now... 😅And yes, it’s usually still there when I wake up after 6-8 hours.

This smells almost exactly like the analytical room full of HPLC and LCMS equipment at my workplace - I would love to know which ingredient is responsible for that.

First things first: Love the idea of a coral-reef as an underwater garden. (Reminds me of the Beatles song, the gardener being an octopus... Just lovely!) The packaging conveyes a pretty good image of that and the more abstract nature of the scent itself. Btw, tested it at Douglas in Germany, where it already IS available. Not only the flacon reminds me strongly of the now discontinued Jardin après la mousson - the juice seems also closely related: white flowers (here Tahiti gardenia instead of gingerlily), smelled through water! Of course, no calone-watermelon opening (thank god!) and no spices here, but definetly a lot of watery scent, very much like the gesomin-petrichor of après la mousson. A hint of seaweed and driftwood (must be the "tamanu"), and that's it. I love the simplicity, Tiaré - water - seaweed&coral-garden, which isn't so simple after all: There's no typical evolution of a scent pyramid over time, but the notes seem to come and go, mingle, separate, on and on, over and over again, like the waves coming and going on a seashore. This puts sous la mer on the same level as the other great jardins by Jean-Claude Ellena, sur le Nil and en Mediterrané (and, again, also much like après la mousson). A good thing, since I became a bit disappointed with the recent releases by Nagel for Hermès, though I came to love her garden in Cythère. For a jardin it is also quite long lasting, 6 hours on skin, a day and more on clothes: the sleeve on my jacket and my gloves continue to smell gorgeously as I write this 24 hours after applying. Also, I find that I mustn't bury my nose to my wrist to smell it, but better try to catch the smell at arms lenght - a much better experience, a watercolour image (truly befitting an Hermès-jardin) of the ideal tropical seaside: Gardenias (and jasmin) flowering on a cliff, and myself out at the reef viewing the sealife snorkeling or on a glassbottom-boat and getting whiffs of those flowers now and then: this jardin is an utterly joyful journey! No need to be sad about the discontinuation of après la mousson anymore, this is a worthy follow-up on that, better even because lacking some polarizing notes (sharp side-look at you, watermelon!). The only question that remains: do I want to smell like this? I'll continue testing (while watching Finding Nemo lol) and getting myself lost in long memory trips to the coral gardens of Fiji 🐙. I got an original sample from a store but before trying came here to read reviews. I got so impressed (badly) by the bashing that I have postponed the try out for days. I was expecting something revoltingly awful. Got the courage to sample and... I don’t get the hate at all. I found it pleasant! The underlined sweetness of it did get well with my skin. This could get in my wishlist and now I am super confused thinking I might have parosmia? Since the sample is generous I will try in different scenarios and temperatures to see if my nose is tricking me or I am the few who just like it... Edit: I bought a 30ml refillable bottle. I really liked it. The experience of urinal cake or cleaning products doesn’t come to me at all. It gets sweet and then powdery, very comforting.

I was expecting to dislike this after reading reviews but to my surprise I don’t. It’s really something different, something I haven’t smelled before. There is a slight unpleasent note but somehow that just makes it more interesting, more realistic - not everything smells good in nature. I wouldn’t wear this in public but when I’m in the mood for something strange, I’ll wear it at home, imagining I’m diving in the ocean. Water is clear and fresh, there are all these plants and all kinds of fish and weird creatures, wow. Yeah, I kinda like Un jardin sous la mer!

Okay, I see in the comments that no one here used homemade soap, because this perfume smells exactly like it😀This perfume smells exactly like the traditional homemade lye soap we use in Eastern Europe. It gives a clean, fresh feeling, with a hint of salt. I think it is actually very pleasant, but I might get the same effect when I wash with this soap. This is in no way a blind buy, but I actually like the scent, as I like the scent of this kind of soap too. Very nostalgic for me.

Sad to admit but this one is my least favorite Jardin so far (tested on skin once). It’s not a bad perfume by any means, but the other ones are unique. The metal notes sound incredibly soapy on me. Soapy notes are love/hate for me so far, here they are quite pleasant and clean, however there are cleaner perfumes out there for which I’d rather reach. Tiare flower is subtle but it is there. I’ll definitely do more tests for this perfume, but it’s not a love from first sight.

I liked it. Opening was citrusy with a soapy accord. I detected a lot of salt and seaweed. Overall a fresh marine fragrance, reminded me of a Crabtree & Evelyn sea salt shower gel that I used to love. I would happily wear this if it was gifted to me. However, it isn’t special enough for me to buy it. I prefer Le Nil and Le Tout.
