Fraaagola Saalaaata

I enjoy Hilde Soliani. I appreciate her sense of humor, and her boldness. If she loves a kind of pastry- well, why not make a perfume that conjures the presence of that pastry? I've wanted to bottle things I love, too. Her formulations can appear simple, with very few notes- like Fraaagola Saalaaata- but with her fragrances, you know how the product is going to perform, and that the ingredients used are top quality. Many times I have read a description of a scent, ordered it, and found it to be only vaguely similar to what I thought I was getting. I am a gourmand lover. If a fragrance I plan to purchase is described as smelling like say, a chocolate covered orange, then that's what it should smell like. I don't want oak moss, or cedar, or wood smoke (all wonderful notes, to be sure) arriving unexpectedly if they aren't listed. The scent I have chosen should convey a chocolate covered orange- as advertised. And though a fragrance may seem "simple" it needn't perform poorly. It should be composed of superior ingredients, essential oils that are genuine, that convey a true presence of what is listed in that scent. This is where Hilde Soliani shines. What notes are listed, what scent is described- that is what you're going to get. Every few years I treat myself to a some samples from Luckyscent. The selections may not work for the usual reasons- the scent is delicious but too fleeting, the sample turns weird on my skin, or it's just disagreeable. I ordered a batch, some years ago, that included Fraaagola Saalaaata. They arrived during what had turned out to be a challenging time in my life. My choices would be, I hoped, happy, uplifting fragrances that would be cheering, or would at least provide welcome distraction from the gloom. The only sample I can recall receiving, out of all of them, is Fraaagola Salaaata. And happy and uplifting, it was. Everything about Fraaagola Salaaata- except its name- seemed basic. Even the bottle was uncomplicated looking. The Luckyscent website listed only two notes for this fragrance: strawberries, and salt. I have always loved strawberries, and was curious as to how this note would perform, pretty much flying solo, in a perfume. Would the straightforward cylinder of a bottle hold tart, untamed, just cut berries, glistening in their purest form on the cutting board? Or would it possess a strawberry presence like the one in those hard candies in the strawberry-shaped wrappers, that have the burst of berry powder inside? And what would the manifestation of the salt's role be as co-star to the berry? What I experienced was a combination of fresh and candied berries. Fresh and true, but well-sugared. I was happily surprised by the very real strawberry essence this perfume conveyed. As for the salt, I couldn't really detect it, but it had to have been added to provide a counterpoint to the berry, like a complementary color in a painting. To me the salt was a silent partner, providing a service I could not detect. Fraaagola Salaaata is strawberry- period. You want strawberry- you're going to get it. And I happen to adore strawberries. I received the sample of Fraaagola Salaaata in late Spring, so this fragrance, which is perfect for Spring/Summer, came along at just the right time of year. After using up the sample I knew I had to have it. I never spend this much on a perfume, but this time I splurged on a bottle. It was a wonderful fragrance. I loved every atom of every spray. Sadly, it just didn't last on me. Although classified as an eau de parfum, it performed like an eau de toilette. The big happy cloud of sparkling berry faded away within less than an hour. But I loved my time with Fraaagola Salaaata, because it did always make me smile, and I reapplied it to its very end. Would I order a full bottle again? No. But I enjoyed it while it lasted. I miss Fraaagola Salaaata. I may order another sample of it sometime. Then I can experience again that Summer, when a kind of silly looking bottle of perfume with a weird name and two ingredients made life a sweeter and happier place.

This smells like eating strawberry Pop Rocks on a sticky hot sunny day in July in the late 90s. Something about this scent brings about nostalgia for my childhood, funny how scents can do that. It's definitely a more artificial strawberry scent, as every berry scent is going to be because it's not possible to distill their aromas naturally, but it's not at all medicinal, sour, syrupy, or heavy like a lot of berry forward perfumes. It's a unique and addictive scent and hard to describe, but my husband inadvertently nailed the description when he commented that something in the air smelled like carnival food. It really does smell like a photorealistic snow cone or cotton candy or funnel cake or all three mashed together at a seaside carnival which to me is a joyous evocation. And I notice a bit of a chocolate/cocoa smell after an hour or two, but maybe that's just me. Anyways if it wasn't clear yet I love this scent. It is one of few sweet perfumes that works in summer for me; yes it's dense and sweet yet it has buoyancy and balance. Still I'm not sure it'd be a safe blind buy because it is unlike anything else I've ever tried and it is expensive. But get a sample and try it a few times as you can detect more complexity the more you wear it. 2 month update: This is in my top 3 favorites. I never get tired of it! Will buy a bottle eventually but for now I have a larger decant. 2 year update: This remains solidly in my top 5 of all time, and I tend to get sick of fragrances after a while.

Strawberry candy-- super fun! It makes me think of a 50's housewife with Marilyn curls, wearing a gingham apron and bright red cherry lipstick. I could see this being worn to the beach or an outdoor summer party. Projection, sillage, and longevity are STRONG. I would caution against wearing this in an enclosed space as family members could smell it from upstairs (with only one spritz). My husband needed me to scrub it off because it was "actually upsetting him physically". He said it left a ploom behind that lingered. His opinion: way too sweet, like jello mix, mixed with cough syrup and 90's kids toys, but too much like chemicals. Scented markers and scratch 'n sniff. My small child exclaimed she could smell it across the room but LOVED it! The most positive reaction I've seen: "mmmmm!! Can you wear that for Daddy's birthday? I want to smell it again!" I scrubbed it off and sprayed 2am in Lafayette to cover it up since my husband likes that one alot. It then morphed into cotton candy and could still smell it still at the end of the day. I can't speak to the salt note or development due to scrubbing. If my husband liked it, this would be a contender!

Strawberry Shortcake grew up, had a rough couple of years and started working the corner. A witch disguised as your grandmother gives you one of those hard gooey strawberry candies and you bite into it only to find it's filled with salt water - somehow, it still tastes alright. Salty, skanky, sweet sweet strawberry. This is addictive. I've been waiting to sample this ever since I read the notes - a simple combination that was bound to lead to something interesting. I agree with the comparisons to strawberry candy or lip gloss, but the saltiness brings it to a skinlike place where maybe, just maybe, you might actually just smell like this. Like if you just naturally sweat strawberry juice. Or if those little pores on strawberries could sweat. In my mind, the coolest woman in the world naturally smells like this. Some will find it boring but the juxtaposition of the sweetness and saltiness keeps it so interesting and has me sniffing my arm like a maniac. This is the one for spring/summer if you're tired of freshies and florals and want to smell a little unusual without choking everyone out around you. I'm obsessed.

It's comforting, pleasant, bright, sweet/tart but balanced, and so, so cute. It projects, lingers, and leaves a delicate berry-candy skin scent. It doesn't smell cheap because it's not, and does not give me a headache. I just adore these types of fragrances. I can't stop smelling my wrist when I spray this on me! It's worth the price tag in my opinion! The child in me is happy. 🥰🍓🍬💕 p.s. Want to die and go to heaven?? This fragrance is a simple pleasure! There are no big bells and whistles, no wild or melodical note progressions - this does not scream "art"! ...but BOY, IS IT GOOD. Fraagola Saalaaata opens up with a piled-high-with-sugar, sticky, strawberry lollipop blast. Crystal clear and true to strawberry, I don't get any plastic or powder out of this, nothing that smells like a doll, as I sometimes get from strawberry in perfumery! The drydown becomes a bit more complex with what is described in the note pyramid as a salty accord, but to me comes through as a creamy, vanillic-berry type of feel, something almost like cotton candy. A fun novelty for any fragrance collector, perfumista with a sweet-tooth, or that lone individual looking for the epitome of a strawberry fragrance! Delicious!

Big strawberry is right! The punch of strawberry stayed on my skin for a long time. The salt wasn't as prominent or marine-y as I had hoped it would be but I definitely liked this perfume. It's interesting to have a scent associated with innocence like strawberry that isn't powdery or kiddy. Fraaagola smells hot and wet. It's a package of strawberries you took to the beach and left in the sun. Strawberry pulp at the bottom of a cocktail glass at a summer party that hasn't been cleared yet. It's a really good fit for hot, humid days and days you want to remember what it's like to feel hot and humid.

“Elegant and humorous” Well, yes. Hi. Fraaagola Saalaaata’s target audience is fun, silly girls and whimsical women who refuse to take life too seriously. I don’t think it could be any more obvious. This is the sweetness of strawberry chapstick, mystery hubba bubba in wax paper, fruity plastic doll. Playful, nostalgic, comically flamboyant, and endearing. Girly 2000s childhood in a bottle. A simple candied plasticky strawberry that sits fairly close to the skin. There’s a rather unique salt note that adds dimension and prevents the fragrance from becoming too cloying or cheap. I love it.

This is the most gorgeous strawberry I have ever smelled. It smells like strawberry candy in its purest form and it's not like all those sickly sweet, burnt smelling sugar perfumes that have been very popular lately. This smells to me like strawberry gum and strawberry chapstick but in a way that is so pleasant. I can't stop smelling my wrist. With the right scent, this could be amazing for layering. The moment I can afford the full bottle I am getting my hands on it as well as some samples of her other scents. Hilde Soliani has just gained a new fan. This is amazing.

Tongue-in-cheek olfactory equivalent to those Fizz candies from when I was younger. They used to come in a long strip of single packets. The very moment I smelled this that was the primary thing that came to mind. Actually to be more precise, the INSIDE of the candy; right when you break through the tartly sweet hard candy exterior and the fizz comes frothing out. They always had an interesting salty edge to them, which made them reeeally fun to eat. That's what this is exactly---to my nose. Effervescent-sweet-salty-strawberry-fizziness. Tasty!

Yummy Strawberries! This scent is very strong and very sweet. I love the very faint saltiness in the background of it. Sugar sweet box of strawberries covered in thick fragrant strawberry syrup. It reminds my of yummy things, takes to me to my childhood, and it is very girly! (agree with Roge' below). It also reminds me Fanta Red Cream Soda - something I haven't had since a child - so it brings back childhood memories. The longevity of this is outstanding! and the dry down is very creamy yummy. LOVE!

impish and girly and i want to lick it off my own skin! fills a room, travels fast from you to the cashier at the grocery store where you're buying a single cucumber soda at 5pm. no plastic or powder in this for me. the marine notes are prominent from beginning to end; i think the saltiness is a lot harsher and lewder (and the scent itself is a lot more sophisticated) than other reviews make it seem. i imagine it'll wear beautifully in heat, too!

Juicy, ripe strawberries with salt. Exactly as promised, and on me this is also a bit musky like the salt is slightly sweaty too. The projection and longevity is more like a cologne or eau de toilette rather than perfume but that’s also perfect. It’s not cloying, or loud, or anything sticky smelling. It’s the perfect warm, sunshine day scent that smells both delicious and provocative, much sexier than the ubiquitous Burberry Her.

This review is part of my Gummy Set (curated by Cammy)!! This was paired with a sweet heart gummy, but I felt like this was definitely more of a sour strawberry scent! It smells like a strawberry sour belt and it’s absolutely addictinggggg. It’s definitely a young scent, it’s so fun and feels so flirty to me!! I would wear this to a picnic or a summer night out. I want to bite the candy that this smell comes from, it’s so edible

this smells like sour strawberry candy in the best way possible. the strawberry itself is pretty one note, but the salt gives it this extra layer, and has this tasty citric-acid like quality to it. this is what a strawberry dum dum smells like. salt works so well here, in the same way you add salt to a dessert to bring the flavors out more. the projection on this is also CRAZY!! I can smell the sample from a good way away :D

Like others have mentioned, this scent is very artificial and reminiscent of the sweet berry smells of childhood. I love the nostalgic aspect, and also think its just delicious besides! It instantly reminded me of some of my sweetest memories- my favorite scented Strawberry Shortcake DVD, eating snow cones at the circus, and melting ice pops by the pool.

Love seeing the Big Strawberry! Cheerfully artificial strawberry. Like a candy but also stays close to skin and doesn't feel overwhelmingly sweet or salty. I'm always afraid it will be too much but it never is. Like others, I get a good amount of violet, especially in the drydown. That might be my favourite part. Just very nostalgic and youthful and fun.

I love the cheerful artificiality of the strawberry. Like others have said, it reminds me of jello mix or kool-aid powder. A sno-cone and cotton candy and sun-kissed skin on a warm day at the carnival. This is childlike, fun and nostalgic. Definitely not for everyone. You have to like girly, candy scents, but if you do, this is a winner.

the salinity really drives this home for me. the artificial, saccharine strawberry only adds to the playfulness of this fragrance. such a simple yet beautiful pairing. i even get a richer whipped cream/caramel undertone in this when i sniff my wrists closely and deeply. this is girly and feminine and a little juvenile and so so perfect.

My jaw actually dropped when I smelled this fragrance. It is smells exactly like what the notes list here - strawberry and salt. The take on strawberry is incredibly straightforward. It has a candy sweetness that somehow doesn't smell artificial. Both youthful and refreshing, this scent is perfect for summer.

What a fun fragrance. This is sweet, strawberry bubble gum. Yes, it is an artificial strawberry scent...but I like it. It's not off putting. Very nostalgic and very delicious. The salt is very much in the background, barely peeking through. Not a performance monster but fun enough that I could overlook that.

Very simple, but works magic in the hot months for me. I would never travel without it in the heat of the summer. A hit with the children too! They love it! I do adore it, as with many of her fragrances, however I haven't tried them all, but there are a few more I'd love to add to my list! Give them a try!

è delizioso!! i can't get over how much of a juicy berry punch this frag has- it's not in a cloying or overpowering way. just super fun and fresh and fruity! almost has a musky/aquatic feel from the salt which gives it a little mystique... i already know i will be wearing Fraaagola all summer long!<3

I totally agree with frogsnsnails review. I bought the full bottle this Summer from Lucky Scent and it is my all time favorite giddy-warm-weather scent. I love smelling like a Straberry Shortcake doll (with the addition of supreme salt)! I found a back up on eBay. It can happen!

Fraagola Saalaaata is such a comfort scent for me. It transports me to childhood, and makes me feel whimsical and playful. I wear it when I need to feel uplifted and cozy. As far as the actual scent, it is sweet, fruity, airy, fluffy, tart, and slightly creamy all at once.

this was one of my first in a new interest in fragrance ive taken up and it immediately had me addicted, so interesting and compelling that it made me want to explore into fragrances, but of course it's my favorite and i bought a whole bottle.

so so so endearing and comforting. i adore using this to layer with more “serious” scents to add a touch of whimsy. smells like a sticky sweet strawberry slushy + haribo gummies with the barest hint of sweat. hilde soliani has my heart.

So cute, smells not very much like a real strawberry but maybe a cartoon of a strawberry. The salt gives it a punch of umami. It’s a bit like a strawberry dipped in caramel dipped in ocean water. I’ll be wearing this to the beach

This is SO nostalgic!! It reminds me of how my Easter basket smelled as a kid, with loads of jellybeans at the bottom. Or like those wrapped strawberry hard candies that my grandma always had. Really. This is totes adorbs!

I originally bought this after hunting for a scent that reminded me of a scented doll of my childhood. Though it doesn’t exactly smell of plastic there is a synthetic quality that evoked the memory I wanted it too.

I just tested this from a dabber from LuckyScent. And I truly believe that this is PURE strawberry. On my skin it smells like a bowl of freshly cut strawberries. Divine! No pretension here.

Smell again!! This isn't salted strawberry! This is violet! Maybe a lot of violet blended with the little sweetness of strawberry.

Yum! It smells like those strawberry hard candies with a gooey center - the ones that come in the strawberry printed wrapping. The salt note here reads to my nose as watermelon. I have a similar experience to the marine/salt note in Celeste by GDT, but that reads as a green melon. So, this fragrance is a sweet syrupy strawberry candy with a touch of watermelon. As some other reviewers have said, this has an ever so slight violet nuance, even though there is no violet in the notes. It's a girly perfume for sure, but I have a hard time calling an almost $200 perfume juvenile... Unfortunately, longevity is where this perfume loses points. It lasts for like 2 hours and then it's... pretty much gone. I've had this same experience the only other Hilde fragrance I tried. Not a huge deal, still probably FBW for me~ I reapplied it at lunch time, walked through the warehouse at my job and one of the guys said, "what's that smell? Who's eating candy?"~!

Sweet and sour strawberry cotton candy and a touch of salt air that drys down to a very slight coconut suntan oil scent. Has a very synthetic note to the strawberry, like candy, not fruit. Smells like a day at Coney Island. More interesting than you would think and definitely a fun place scent. Hilde perfumes are deceptively simple scents, sort of like Jo Malone, but with more lasting power, originality and better ingredients. All of her scents are enchantment, charm and happiness.

As a huge fan of gourmands this fragrance was a delight! Simple and direct like much of Hilde Solianis catalogue. Though the note is not listed, I find on my skin it reads like raspberry and strawberry cotton candy. The marine note is lost on my skin but things turn sickly sweet for me in general. Smells like glittery pink lipgloss you'd find in a squeeze tube, playful and young, but potentially overpowering and saccharine for some. A summer fragrance through and through.

This smells just like a strawberry Lip Smackers lip gloss I had in the 00’s. I really like this but I already have a headache today and this isn’t helping because it’s so artificial with some real sillage going on. I love the way it smells though, it is very cute. I think I disagree with the reviews saying it smells like bubblegum because this isn’t quite cotton-candy sweet enough. This is strawberry plastic, it smells a bit sticky but it’s not sickly.

On initial spray: straight up strawberry, and nothing else. Then smelled like the taste of those strawberry gummies with the white vanilla bottoms? Literally a blast of strawberry, followed closely by a slightly artificial powdered sugary vanilla. A dry, plastic slide sitting close to a cotton candy stand. Nostalgic; playing with dolls on the blacktop; a strawberry chapstick next to you slowly softens in the heat. An ice cream truck goes by.

Imagine the Morton Salt girl in a pink raincoat and red rubber boots, blowing a bubble of strawberry gum. The strawberries run the gamut from fresh picked berries in the sun, to red soda pop, then shortcake ice cream bars, and finally those smelly erasers from primary school. The salt melts quickly and disappears into violets, then a breath of vanilla, a brief taste of hazelnut. Sweet but strangely chaotic.

This scent is so fun—my sample immediately reminded me of the old-fashioned strawberry bon bons or strawberry jello. It feels young and playful and, though it's currently the dead of winter in the northern US, I immediately thought of wearing this to the beach on a sunny summer day. It's certainly not a complicated scent, but it is a feel-good one. Probably not for those who take themselves too seriously.
