Hot Milk

this is best applied with parsimony, at least if you were drawn to this for the lactonic notes. with one spray, on a hot summer day, this smells like caccio e pepe. it does register as hot milk, but something about it feels both starchy, spicy and light like pepper corn in pasta water. it develops beautifully, and has nice fairly linear longevity, doesn’t veer to the sweet side as it dries down like hilde’s butter centric scents. with two sprays —and to my biggest surprise— this opens with a vibrant sharp green smell. the lactonic notes are subtly posted in the background and progressively reappear 30 mins after application. the most prominent smell i’m getting is something akin to vetiver, which i imagine as the chilli pepper leaves & stems. still very nice but i am dumbfounded by this radical transformation. base notes after a couple of hours are that milky pasta water i mentioned earlier. lasts for a while though eventually it turns into a your “skin scent if you were a pot of cream” vibe. edit: i honestly am so stumped by this smell. it may be that its green aspect comes out stronger in HOT hotter weather ?? i don’t know. i keep trying it, some days its bright and green and some days its lazy pasta water. there are moments i love it and others when it leaves me rather indifferent. i do think it’s a strange unconventional beauty. helena bonham carter of perfumes.

Creamy, spicy, sweet incense vibes--though there is not a single whiff of incense or smoke in it! OK, well, I don't *actually* smell any incense, but it *reminds* me of it! Anywho, I love red pepper (on food and SO MUCH IN THIS). I have created red pepper tinctures for perfumes and accidentally added too much (it burned my skin upon application---BUT I SMELLED DIVINE)...and this one DOESN'T burn my skin but still captures the red peppery spiciness that I crave and adore!! And it doesn't turn on my skin like it does with some others; it smells less lactonic on general on me as time passes with the fruitiness of lactones really shining in this one--there's no kiwi listed in the notes, but I swear I get the faintest whiff of tropical fruits, and that could very well (honestly, more likely than not) be attributed to lactones in this perfume's recipe. Highly recommended---though this isn't something I'd wear daily (or even weekly), it's a MUST try for any fragrance lover who loves sweet and spicy. I wouldn't say it is a safe blind buy for everyone, but it certainly was for me.

Perfection. Can't imagine that I would react this strongly towards such a simple fragrance. Honestly I kept smelling my arm and vocally announcing, "Oh, that's good." as though I had forgotten all about it and repeatedly kept re-discovering it over and over again. It's beautiful. Spicy, sweet, creamy, a tiny bit bitter and tart. It smells like it's so complex but really really linear and simple at the same time. It's delicious and absolutely surprising for me. And the most bizarre characteristic, I've had many spicy and savory perfumes before, but never one that I felt I could taste. This lingers in the air in such a strange way and permeates everything in it's reach. This perfume stirs the imagination and flames the base instincts. I adore it, truly. 9/10

Wow. I just did a mystery pick into my decants mini treasure chest. This is an amazing smell of real cardamom like added to boiling milk for a beautiful Indian sweet. There is an incense vibe. It smells just like crushing cardamom pods, hard, to infuse, extraordinary and unexpected. Within a few minutes a slightly sweet custardy aroma evolves. I’m smitten. It’s the sweetest of chilli pepper with halva or kulfi. It reminds me most of the stunning MDCI Persaines. Eastern spices. I can feel the prickles of rubbing a cardamom pod to loosen its little fragrant bomb seeds. The smell is everything and I always felt a little let down that it didn’t translate so well to the curry. I’ve smelled a lot of perfume but this is amazing!

Wow, what an odd combination yet it smells really wonderful. In the opening, I get a blast of spices, not sweet or heavy, then it is smoothen out with this hot, straight up milk scent. The milky scent really smells like when you're warming up milk on the stovetop until it comes to a boil. In the drydown, the peppery scent is prominent but it's more of a skin scent. This is unisex and I think it would be perfect for layering with other scents. I might mix this with Montale's Intense Cafe when the cold weather comes :)

I smelled Hot Milk on a whim thinking I would hate it but I was SO wrong! This is a peppery, sweet masterpiece. The scent reminds me of Mexican fruit salads filled with chili flakes, lime, pineapple, strawberry, and chamoy. The spice element is what really stands out for me. It smells both sizzling and fresh, making it wearable in any season. Although I usually prefer green/aquatic scents, I bought a full bottle of Hot Milk on the spot. I highly recommend sampling this truly unique fragrance! It may surprise you.

The fragrance combo we didn't know we needed to smell like :) Hilde Soliani, you whimsical genius. Spicy milk is not a smell at the top of everyone's fragrance aspirations, but it should be. It's sweet, cozy, milky, and aromatic. It's not sweet in any sort of gourmand or fruity way; it's sweet in the a subtle way -- when you smell something sweet in the air. The spice adds that like kick to keep you smelling like a milk bathe, and yea, I just love it.

I tried this some time ago and found it true to it’s lactonic namesake, and the pepper gave it a recognizable fresh edge. Smells great, but it’s too modern and minimalist for me to purchase a full bottle. That said, I’ve just had a baby and am currently breastfeeding. I no longer seek out milk notes in perfumes.

I would say spicy ice cream instead of hot milk. I thought the milk would turn sour (especially sampling in the spring) but stays warm and skin-like. The pepper is really spicy, tickles your nose! Long lasting general musk, almost floral(?), still a whiff of pepper in the dry down if you're searching for it.

Odd intro on this one, I do get the spicy and milky notes, but there's like a bitterness which goes away after a bit. The dry-down is where this gets to shine. It's warm and very comforting. I don't know what else to say it's literally just a hot milk smell. Super simple yet super well composed.

smells a bit like walking into a kitchen that warm, spiced, caramelized fruit was cooked in 6 hours ago. it's not in-your-face sweet but it's definitely there. it's very creamy and milk-y, but it's not too heavy and is actually a tad fresh. very interesting and unique!

Chili peppers + a hint of milk. It’s great! I wouldn’t think these would go together so well, but they work well on my skin. I’m not usually one that’s interested in food-like fragrances but I really enjoy this.

At first I get fresh hot chile pepper then it turns creamy lactonic and then fresh ripe delicious peaches. I can’t stop sniffing myself, it is gorgeous and I’m not even a gourmand fan. Hilde is a sorceress!

Hot and lucid. I love the straightforward concepts of this brand. Stunningly simple, sexy, unique. Great for warm or cool weather.

Gonna layer this and latte freddo to create room temperature milk.

Perfumer Hilde Soliani has listened to what the people want, and she’s given it to us: milk and hot peppers, swirling together in some type of bastard concoction. Just kidding, no one asked for this. But perhaps we just didn’t know that we needed this oddity, which Hilde must’ve culled out of some type of cabinet of curiosities from within hell’s kitchen. I’m amused by Hot Milk, and intrigued and beguiled and slightly nauseated all at once. Hilde has served us up the scent equivalent of a bowl of creamy milk, which has now been dyed a fluorescent pinkish-red color from the floating cereal that’s shaped in the form of red hot chili peppers. Unusual, and unlike anything I’ve smelled before. Spicy yet lactonic, and slightly sour. Peppery, fiery, and with a creamy kick. Hot Milk is like being sprayed and slapped in the face with the fire-red udder of a cow. You can’t accuse this bottle of not giving you exactly what it promises. Who knew this kind of monstrosity could actually work? Apparently, Hilde did. After smelling this, I can quite guarantee that ol’ Hilde was one of those kids who mashed together their food in weird science experiments gone horrifically and wonderfully awry. “Don’t play with your food,” the perfume industry told Hilde, and she fired back, “Don’t fucking tell me what to do.” Now, some will like this hot, and some will like this not. It's challenging. I kept sniffing my arm after having sampled it, but I doubt that I could wear this often or as anything other than a novelty. Still, I’m looking for an excuse to purchase this as I take inventory of the various scent profiles in my perfume collection, and I’m left wondering: got milk? In five words or less: Some like it hot.

After hearing how polarizing Hot Milk was, I was skeptical if I should sample it. I braced myself for the worst– someone painted a very disturbing picture of this smelling like protestors dousing their faces with milk upon being pepper-sprayed during demonstrations (What the fuck). But, my morbid curiosity got the better of me. This perfume is very interesting. This verges on being a scrubber for me, but at the same time, I couldn't help but continue sniffing my wrist. The lactonic notes and burst of nose-tingling black pepper were immediately discernible. Dare I say this perfume is surprisingly wearable? The pepper is so zingy that it leans fruity– when I sniff it I get a grilled, syrupy peach drizzled with condensed milk and freshly ground peppercorns. It also uncannily smells like a dentist's office (Maybe if you're into MFK BR's doctor's office smell, this would be for you). TBH, I really do think Hot Milk would be a very cozy but zingy turtleneck scent. I think I'll have to sit on it before selling my sample, but this is one of the most unique fragrances I've ever come across.

Totally agree with the review that is simply "green sichuan peppercorns in an epic battle with your aunt's random floral handcream". Totally nailed it. But also one thing worth adding is that after about 15 minutes the peppercorns disappear and it's all your aunt's random floral hand cream I'm so frustrated with this one, every time I try my sample on I'm convinced I need a full bottle! It's really so wearable! It's not nearly as unwearable of a scent as it sounds, it's just a nice peppery skin scent with some musky/lactonic undertone to it. But then overtime it becomes increasingly more and more polite and floral-synthetic, which I find so frustrating. I am not sure what notes are causing this because the only ones I can find listed are pepper and milk, and it definitely is more than just the sum of those two. Definitely give this a try if you're interested in a lactonic spicy scent without your usual oriental/ambery accords, but get a sample as it is not a safe blind buy

At first Hot Milk is the scent of red pepper juice, then dried chili pepper powder. After a minute or so, a sweet milk accord rises up, and the chili pepper seems as though it is joined by other spices (black pepper? cardamom? cinnamon?). It does have a sensation of warmth. This reminds me of chai spices and tea with milk. There's something clean under the surface that reminds me of the laundry ozone + milk in Lanvin's Oxygene. It's very cosy, very simple, but enjoyable! Similar to L'Artisan's Poivre Piquant (which I love), though I'd say that one smells more like black and white pepper than red, and is more complex due to the addition of liqorice and honey. The sillage is close and the longevity is low. Lovers of cosy sweet/spicy scents and milky scents should try this one.

got a sample of this fully expecting to hate it and leave a joke review, only to end up legit enamored with it?? CANNOT stop smelling myself with it on. somehow they blend seamlessly into one warm, lactonic note that is not only wearable, but actively good?! i can't think of anything else similar, but if i had to compare, i'd say it's like a masala chai with extra cardamom. it also lasts much longer than other hilde soliani scents i've tried, although a lot of the other reviews say the opposite for them - i got about 6 hours of wear. beast mode it is not, but i've had other hilde soliani scents fade into oblivion after 5 minutes so i consider this a triumph in every regard! overall rating: 🩷🩷🩷🩷🖤 4/5

When I was young, I would play in my mother's garden where she grew chili pepper plants that had the cutest green flowers. I was kind of a silly child and never learned my lesson since I'd often end up getting the pollen in my eyes and nose. It would burn so badly that I'd have to go bathe to get it out. I usually hate these types of "imagery" related reviews but this fragrance smells so much like those little flowers and brings back such vivid memories. I don't even smell any milk. On the other hand, my SO says it smells fruity. This is an odd one for sure. Scratch that, four hours later with the chili faded enough, I can smell steamed milk. I'm sure I'll be wearing this a lot in the fall.

I got this as a sample with other Hilde Soliani perfumes, and I've been trying to place why the scent is so familiar. I had told my husband it smells like a specific jelly bean, but he said he's never smelled a jelly bean like this before. After several hours of getting the occasional whiff of myself, I have finally placed it: it's a dead ringer for the Jelly Belly black pepper jelly bean. It's an insanely unique and fun scent. Peppery, sweet, and a little lactonic. I can see how some may not like it, but I think it's pretty intriguing.

As a lover of lactonic scents, I couldn't not resist ordering a sample. And I like it! Very minimalistic, truly just warm milk and hot peppers, very unique combo. Not something I would wear outside though... it is somewhat weird and I do see how people might be repulsed by it. It doesn't last at all. I applied Commodity Milk to one wrist and this one to another about 3 hours ago. I can still smell Commodity strongly, but Hot Milk is already completely gone.

This fragrance is doing something cool, I get the milky and I get the pepper. It’s almost like a hot peoper after the heat chills out a bit and you have a hint of heat and smoke. The only thing I don’t totally get is why this feels so pine heavy to me??

This scent is SO unique! It's creamy and warm with a little bit of spice that keeps it interesting. I get a lot of compliments on it, and it lasts forever. Definitely worth trying if you like something different.

interesting, very similar to buon pranzo, although hot milk is a bit less creamy and more of a skim milk vibe. this is almost a spicier buon pranzo, also great for layering but a bit more bold, less buttery.

This is such an art piece. I detect a gentle mango skin amidst the capsicum and milk.

I was enticed by a review of this scent on a different site comparing it to chili oil, it didn't wind up like that for me. On my skin it was incredibly resinous, and the sourness that other people have mentioned gave vibes of a very sticky natural adhesive (I don't know if anyone else used to try and stick pieces of wood together with tree sap as a kid, but I did and this scent was pretty nostalgic for me). The milk wasn't really coming through at all for my nose, but maybe that's where the sourness is coming from? It doesn't smell spoiled or putrid if you're wary about that, and while not being what I expected from the scent notes/the name and description, it was pleasant.

A spicy lactonic latte please, no additives-in fact, hold the vanilla, amber and patchouli normally in this type of Grande~☆ She is brilliant w gourmand fragrances. This is not sweet, it is not creamy: it smells like a mother's potion of boiling hot milk and cayenne pepper to send u off to bed. U can wear alone or add to a dull fragrance for some zest. This is unisex, FROTHY SPICE.

like everyone's been saying, this perfume is more like a singular frankenstein scent rather than a composition of two separate notes. it's lightly sweet, oddly floral like a hand soap, probably from the pepper. I'm not super into it on my skin personally, but ymmv.

This leans more floral and soapy on my skin than I was anticipating. I was hoping for something a bit more creamy and natural-smelling, perhaps a little savory, but every time I caught a whiff of myself I couldn't help but think of hand soap.

It’s weird!! I’m excited to try layering it to cut my sweeter gourmand scents. On my skin it straight up just smells like black pepper. It makes me a little nauseous not gunna lie

It quite literally smells like spicy hot milk

I've been eying with this for so long, expectation was to get creamy chillies. The reality: - initially just crude freshly milled black peppercorns. - mid is slithly milkier aromatic light smoke. whiffs of baby vomit. - drydown: dill & incense. It gets points for uniqueness but on my skin this is pretty much unwearable :((((

I love the concept, I wish this worked for me. It winds up smelling extremely synthetic, almost metallic.

Bummer. Sour chemicals on my skin. There's not a hint of warmth or creaminess. I am jealous of the previous reviewer who got to experience "sweet, cozy, milky, and aromatic". I haven't tried many lactonic scents to know if this is a challenge for my chemistry with all lactonic or just this one. My husband described it as smelling like pressure-treated lumber. How flattering.

My husband ruined this one for me...(and he may ruin it for you, too, so proceed with caution, especially if you've already bought the bottle...) The open was pretty and sweet, really fruity and had me wondering: where was that photoreal lactonic note I'd heard so much about. Then after about 1/2 an hour, the sweetness calmed down and I knew what everybody was talking about. Wow- it smells just like hot milk! How fascinating! I've never smelled anything so literal! Should I buy a full bottle? Where's my wallet? In the midst of these frantic thoughts, I thrust my wrist under my husband's nose. Obediently he sniffed. Once, twice, nostrils flaring. "Isn't it neat?" I asked, "it smells like hot milk, like milk and chilies, isn't that an interesting miracle? Don't you suddenly feel like life is full of beautiful mysteries to uncover?" "It smells like popcorn," he said slowly. "Like jelly-belly buttered popcorn flavored jellybeans... and pee." UGH! it wouldn't bother me except that I know what he means. It's like popcorn jellybeans and the kind of starchy, cheerio-scented pee you have after eating something grainy. Haven't flipped this hard on a frag since my dad told me Pineward's Steading smells like Indian food.

I think this is so unique and completely wearable. At first sniff at the opening, I smelled overwhelming pepper and I thought to myself “this is way too savory”. It totally disintegrates almost immediately and starts smelling strangely like jasmine?? I expected it to have way more notes than just red pepper and milk! For me, the fragrance totally transformed to a clean, soapy, spice. I guess something about milk and spicy together results in something soapy. Nonetheless, this is finally a soap scent that I find unique enough to add to my collection. Seriously surprisingly pleasant!! I love a scent that transforms

This is my first hilde soliani fragrance and it is so yummy and unique. I am new to fragrances so I'm not sure of exact notes but at first spray I get like a licorice or anise note. This scent is addictive and I keep smelling my wrist. On the dry down there is a slight smell of sunscreen. Like you were at the beach yesterday and your skin still has the warm sunscreen smell. Maybe that's the hot milk note. Smells fresh but comforting. I'm hoping this will last longer spayed on clothes. I definitely want a bottle of this! Wish the price point was better since it doesn't have the sillage or longevity I hoped for.

omg this line is a hoot , ok yes is milky but more sandalwoody milky than milk as we may know it and it is definitely spicy , peppery it is very wearable despite my previous fret i think it would make a great fume it leans a bit masculine in my opinion it reminds slightly of gentiane blanche by hermes in this peppery sense hot milk is more tame mind you , it is actually on the fresh side is not heavy . so to finalize is not what i thought it would be is kinda fresh and very wearable , this line keeps amazing me , i want to try more !

Opening is like being pepper sprayed in the face, the most intense blast of chilli, kinda cool, but thank god it was short lived! As that starts to fade I was getting something like aniseed or caraway, cooked in a savoury dish? Unfortunately, I don't get any milk and that's what pulled me towards this. No sweetness either. Drying down it's like a plastic credit card/ sunscreeny smell. Pretty bummed by this as I'm yearning for a spicy, creamy lactonic scent. *Sampling this on a cold night. I might retry in the heat.

a perfect scent, if only it would last longer. the two main themes - cream and pepper - never settle or resolve into a single linear identity. instead, the two face each other, without closing their eyes, without stepping away, and I can almost feel them speak. sadly, in just a few hours, the fresh bitterness of the pepper had mostly gone. The remaining lactone scent is wonderful too in its own right, a pure milk broth and not some synthetic candy. Still, I kept wanting the initial magic to return.

I guess I just have the right skin chemistry? PH? Maybe it’s simply my nose and how I perceive this scent? Whatever it is, it really works for me. While I do smell the spicy chilli note I don’t find it to be in your face at all. Instead, I think the notes in this blend so perfectly in a way where they almost seem to become one singular, magical note of their own. It’s warm, a little sweet, and so comforting. I think I’ll eventually be adding this to my collection.

Top notes are milk and fresh sliced red pepper. Not the burning spice of dried red peppers, or the sting of black pepper, but fresh, crisp chilis and bell peppers. The dry down is amazing, though synthetic. I wasn't quite sure what, but another reviewer mentioned ozonic, and that's it. Steamed milk with ozone is the base, no woods, no leather, no herbs. Just a fresh, clean, mildly sweet skin scent. Longevity is medium, which is to be expected from non-oil notes.

Deeply admire the pure heat that comes out of "Hot Milk".. A few spritz ~~warms~~ me up in an instant, it does something for my sinuses. I almost want to keep a bottle around for bedtime or sick days lol. Not necessarily medicinal but can be therapeutic to a few, certainly spicy, hot, collected, simple. Any milkiness is subtle. Not a crowd pleaser or "easy to wear". My co-workers could not stop sneezing the one time I wore this. :(

if you don't "get" hot milk at first, don't fret. i stayed away due to the name/notes/concept/everything. i was wrong to do so. hot milk is about what it does on the skin. it melts into the skin. it becomes of you. people will ask you over and over what you're wearing. let go of any preconceived ideas of what these notes may suggest. turns out, it's something else all together...

One of those scents that reminds you how fun fragrance can be. This is bewildering, bordering the line of disgust and infatuation. It is milk, it is spicy, it is creamy, yet peppery. I think I love it? Will I ever be able to wear it? I don’t think so, and I’m kind of sad cause it’s just so weird and I really dig it. I’ll always keep a sample just to revisit this little freak.

On me this has a strong peach note in the opening blending with the chili pepper. Smells like cut fruit sprinkled with red chili spice in the summer then has a very creamy fruity milky smell with an undertone of hot milk in a pan. Very interesting and pleasant.
