Saaliiisssiimo

My appreciation of Saaliiisssiimo (had to double-check the amount of letters) has only increased since I first acquired it. It opens with a blast of salt liquorice with a somehow industrial note, plastic and/or metal, like the actual factory where the stuff is made. This phase lasts 2-3 hours on my skin. As the scent settles throughout the day, this aspect of the fragrance fades away almost completely, making way for a soft, vaguely spicy, somehow red-black vibe which is unique and very pleasing. It's like suckling away the strong, salmiac coating of a piece of candy and revealing a tough, chewy, sheer red core that tastes vaguely red fruity in an abstract sense. At no point do I get the rice or saffron notes. I find it very hard to describe, it smells like nothing else, not in terms of fragrance and not in terms of real-world smells. If I put it on in the morning, I still catch whiffs of it before bed. Sometimes I like layering Saaliiisssiimo with other fragrances for maximum confusion. I particularly like contrasting it with something cuddly and fluffy or with something fruity. Guaranteed to spark intrigue.

There is a Finnish cough medicine called Kvilla which is suitable for children and thus first-line treatment for kids under school age. It is pitch black and contains ammonium chloride (salmiac) as a mild expectorant. Placebo probably plays a big part in its effectiveness, having your mom give you a spoon of the sweet yet salty liquorice salmiac syrup is bound to make things better already. This smells like straight up salmiac candy. It is unique, very polarizing and mostly enjoyed in Nordic countries and The Netherlands. I am thus not surprised at the big dislike bar, even though I love this stuff. To the top of the want-list it goes. EDIT: I bought a tester of this for 79 €. I'm in heaven.

I tried this out yesterday and gave it sometime before I decided to write this - even giving a quick spray this morning just to confirm what I thought. If you like liquorice then you will love this - if you like burnt liquorice then you will be in 7th heaven...! All I can smell here is liquorice and nothing but ... no saffron and no rice! I cannot quite fathom why there would be saffron and rice in there competing with such a strong scent in the first place! It reminded me at first of a very, very strong blast of Lolita Lempika EDP but what also came to mind is the taste of those little Italian pure liquorice pellets that look a bit like mice droppings and flavour the breath! I have some of these and to be honest I don't really need to eat those I just need to sniff this perfume as it catches way back in my throat! As it warms up it turns into almost a cross between burnt liquorice and Aquolina's Pink Sugar - and in a very unpleasant way! I am sure somewhere that someone will bring TM's Angel into the reckoning for this as well.......!!!! It is gourmand due to the overdose of liquorice ... it isn't, in my opinion, oriental spicy!

I wanted to love it but this smells like plastic... nothing but weird plastic. Oh well, my licorice holy grail is out there...

It's a kind of strange comfort fragrance. Velvety and smooth and..piquant.:)At the first sight this is a very simple fragrance, but trust me, on the skin it smells very complex. At the first smell I could pick up some anis, mint, with cardamom, incence and liquorice.Seconds later this fresh minty nuance fades away and the scent getting deeper, sweeter and smokier.I still feel the spices,-the Caron house has fragrances with similar character-,I don't dare to say I can smell any saffron, but as the scent dries down, it's getting smoother, and it gets some kind of slightly powdery twist.( Might be the saffron+ rice combo).The end is salty and sweet liquorice( like the swedish "salted candy" call lakrits) at the same time, with some burnt undertone,-faint frankincence, vanilla,subtle leather-, and spices, like clove and cardamom. Fusion of Caron Aimez moi and Ces't la fete patchouli by Christian Lacriox flashed up in my mind at the first sniff. The plain chord sits on the skin softly around 2-3 hours.:( Very relaxing, soft and mild scent, like a warm fur:)So bad it hasn't more power..at least on my skin..:(
