Winter in Manaslu

This is the final of the 4 seasonal fragrances from Hima Jomo i've sampled. And i love them all. Winter in Manaslu does in fact smell like winter. It's cold without smelling just peppermint (although it does smell strongly of peppermint). It also smells strongly of pine and cypress, with cedar and basil beneath. I can't smell the star anis or sandalwood, but the scent has a creaminess to it, which sandalwood probably contributes to. spring, summer and fall, day or night, casual to semi formal. Unisex and for any age. Longevity on my skin with notable+ projection is 6+ hours. Personal score: 9.25/10. I really love this series of seasonal fragrances from Hima Jomo. I've been very impressed, and i'll be looking to have all 4 in my collection in the not too distant future.

IN LOVE! The way my nerves settled immediately upon first spray was shocking. Growing up in the Rocky Mountains, this is absolutely a chilly, cold, pine-y scent that brought me right back to my childhood shivering in -40 weather. An aromatic blast that warms up to juniper bushes, far away wood being chopped. It doesn't last very long and the sillage is definitely personal-space but while I was out I kept smelling it on myself. Green and fresh and minty, not at all toothpaste or gum. A very faint static, ionized smell hangs around that reminds me of wool scarves.

This is embodiment of crisp, cold wintry breeze. fresh but gives you a little chill too. i can almost hear winter breeze in my ears when sniffing this. now, with the scent: fresh mint and pine combo that really freshen me up! just like cold breeze in the mountain. as the top notes left my skin, it gets more woody closer to skin. a little creamy sandalwood makes it more and more comfortable towards the end. of all 4 hima jomo vials i've tried & tested, this one was my favorite. exceptional.

This has to be the most realistic peppermint I've ever smelt in perfumery ohh wow. this is amazing Edit: This fragrance is phenomenal. Bought a full bottle after getting a sample for buying a perfume. Sharp, cold, mint, absolutely transports me to the mountains, where the air is thin, but clear. So comforting, fairly long lasting, absolute masterpiece! Currently layering it with Reliqvia and it just creates a mystical smell.

There’s an initial wash of cold with the peppermint, basil, and star anise. Like opening a door during winter and the cold air hits you. This initial opening lasts 30 minutes in my skin. It begins to warm up yet still maintains the cold bite of mint. The clary sage gives it a continued coolness while the resinous pine and dry cypress give some warmth. There’s a continual sparkling quality with the mint in this— almost like ice. And below all that is the earthier and woodier notes.

A cool minty garden with frozen dew. Crisp mountain air. Very refreshing. Though I wish for less wood varnish and a more realistic forest wood smell. It becomes softer and less minty as time passes, but is still a very wearable scent that is clean and brisk without being soapy or smelling like toothpaste. 7/10

A very big peppermint opening leads into a very natural green landscape. Rather than a wintry forest I get fresh cut grass in spring. 8.0/10

Basil like tomato leaf tends to have a powerful presence in fragrances. Mentally, I keep trying to sniff around it because I love anise, mint, pine and the slightly pear-like sweetness with soapy (in a good way) of ambrette musk. Overall the effect of this fragrance is icy, peppery, watery and green. Like a cold, celery soup with mint. It’s quite savory of a fragrance and light, not a lot of projection nor longevity. Reading the notes, and looking at the mood-board type images in the fragrance marketing really didn’t match the wearing for me. Once again, I beg brands to create sample sets because this isn’t for me. I don’t hate it, but wouldn’t personally purchase a full bottle.

Can't tolerate it because of anis. Otherwise, it is a very interesting blend, giving a nice ambient.

I wanted to love this so bad and had such high hopes for the brand, their promotional material is outstanding. I really wanted a fragrance that smells like green mountaintops but this is not it. Smells like cheap toothpaste mint but even worse, not even close to the real thing with a very sour note that really makes me gag - and I am not one who hates green scents. The celery soup comparisons were spot on, it smells like celery soup gone bad. Maybe I am simply unlucky, try it on your skin but please do not wear this in summer, I think only cold temps can tone down the weird note. Likely the anise or simply the way they execute cypress, Loon by Hima Jomo felt similar in that regard.

Manaslu, at around 8000m above see level with its pure and rarefied air where cedars stands tall and at its feet a lot of musk deer. If that is the pic that Delphine Thierry tried to depict, she was successfull. The pure, almost glacial air is represented by the best mint note I have ever smelled: it feels so natural without taking those toothpaste aspects. As time goes by, th emint becomes sweeter and warmer as anise emerges. But please, do not get fooled by this clean air, because this is a mildy warm "animalic scent. Clary sage comes into play with its leathery facets and the pine note adds that refreshingly deep balsamic quality. If Ms. Thierry was able to create that warm/furry/animalic sensation only with ambrette seed, she trully is very talented. The concoction is sustained by a woody spice base made of cedar, but again for me this is about the warm skin of an animal (without dirtiness). It is not easy to create a scent that is both evocative and yet wearable. Bravo! Definitely on my wish list (p.s. Minty herbs over cool spice and woody musks I was originally skeptical when first sampling due to the fact that mint and particularly basil (a hot weather Mediterranean herb) felt strange in a depiction of high altitude winter. That being said, Winter in Manaslu is handled brilliantly. Mentholated top notes meet with peppery almost clove like spice, blended with mineralic almost slightly metallic musks to produce a formula almost entirely devoid of warmth. I see why basil is used as a note (or rather where it comes from). There is a bitter aromatic quality (perhaps galbanum like raw materials) that mixed with the cool musky mineral like elements to resemble the aggressive dewy freshness of basil and the effect is strongly cooling. As it dries down and the spice disappears, the mirage lessens. The base becomes sweeter and progressively more neutral cedar-y. Good stuff, my cooling energising go-to herbal metallic freshie is Serge Lutens Point du Jour, but Winter in Manaslu is definitely more complex and naturalistic.

I'm surprised that very few people mention about the animalic/furry focus of this one. It's like hugging your pets & smell their fur. The scent opens with a strong shot of mint going hand in hand with Basil create a refreshing, icy effect. The smelling profile reminds me a lot of Cartier Roaster. There is a furry/animalic smell lurking in the background. The freshness stays for a couple of hours then the animalic smells goes on at full gears with nothing added to it and stays for a very long time. If you are not a fan of very realistic animal fur smell, then stay far far away from this one. Don't be fool by the chilling minty topnoes, this is extremely dirty and animalic.

Before this perfume I didn’t think I was a peppermint lover. I was so wrong. I have fallen deeply in love. When I was a child I would play in our backyard, we had wild mint growing in the flowerbeds behind our house. This reminds me of when the Minnesota snow would almost be completely melted & a cool breeze would carry the smell of the wild mint through the country air. It’s stunning & I need a full bottle!!! Am I crazy for thinking this could be worn year round?!

oh ya baby this is why i niche! lol if you were disapointed by nishane ege like mentioned above this might be the one for you. I thought that was a heeeckk no, this one is an instant heckk yes! Reminds me of my all time fav adage frag ci'ian. Super natural smelling, 3d, storytelling scent! Gotta try rest of line now!

Very musky, with notes such as pine and mint that evoke coldness. In the drydown it turns more mineralic.
