1472 La Divina Commedia

For a while I felt as if I was gaslighting myself into liking this perfume, can't even lie. I loved the whole Divina Commedia as a scent idea and wanted to love this immediately. The unfortunate thing at first with 1472 was that it reminded me of The Afternoon of a Faun by ELdO (they're not the same, mind), which I still find hard to pull off, but I wasn't ready to give up on amber yet (I try to be open-minded, to me there aren't "bad notes" just unfitting combinations). Fortunately I like 1472 a lot more. Amber and benzoin create this sweet, spicy stickiness that later mellows out. What's left is beautiful, sunny, warm aura which I'd say is reminiscent of sitting in dried out grass on extremely hot day with pollen floating in the air. Solar notes are tangible here, as is the booziness (even if not that pronounced). Qualitywise it's great and done masterfully but it might not be universally pleasing. It smells little old-fashioned, I enjoy that though. A conscious choice for sure (one I seem to be making a lot lately). I'm actually glad that 1472 challenged me for a while. I eventually grew to love and appreciate it, just like an art piece.

I have no idea where from the Solar Notes come, but that's how it is, solar, laid back, soft and cheerful! You are on a shore across a river or lake (no beach, no saltiness from the ocean), relaxing while sipping from a glass of bourbon, and there's sweet smelling grass and a sunny forest nearby. Someone has lit a bonfire but it's still daylight, the heath is burning slowly and the vegetation has all sorts of perfumed little leaves. It is a happy perfume, perfect for spring. It sends whiffs at times, as if you catch somebody else's. "whose perfume is it?! oh, it is mine! it is me smelling so delicious". It has some cinnamon and amber, I can see why is it similar to Dune, but so very different. Histories de Parfum never failed me. Edit: a friend of mine said it smells vintage and not strong enough. Somebody below said the solar note is fresh / sport and masculine. Another comment says old and dusty dried flowers. Bottom line is that everyone should see for himself / herself. I do find it feminine and easy-breezy, without being floral or citrusy.

This is ylang ylang amber bomb. Dark yellow, spice and animalic jasmine. Regal and opulent, old-school even. Old school done in a modern way but still demanding certain type of demeanor in order to pull this off properly. I really wish rum was more prominent but it only shows up in the top and middle notes briefly. The late drydown is heavy yellow flowers, indolic jasmine and dry amber, along with some Incense. I like it a lot but it sort of gives me a fragrance fatigue if I try to wear often. Unfortunately I had to let my bottle go halfway through. Definitely signature scent worthy though, if it fits your style.

Very "typical" mix of white and yellow florals - but its far from the typical solar, beachy fragrances. It doesnt have the sweetness and the benzoin base makes it smell more elegant Kind of reminds me of the Slim Aarons 70s photoshoots of stylish wealthy ladies in summer in colourful outfits. Summery yet shows pure class and elegance with a slightly vintage undertone

Love it. For me is like a very sunny and happy version of Terre d'Hermes, but sweeeter. It's really weird beacuse it really feels 'sunny'. Histoire de Parfums, one of the most underrated perfume hauses ever.

bit smoky, ripe, basalmy, airy incense burning next to a lavish floral arrangement and an open window for me.

So so good, masterpiece, airy sweet and super gentle fragrance, performance is amazing

1472 opens with a light touch of warm spice and then an airy, almost citrusy, delicate floral note. It really does smell like sunrise. Light, summery, palest gold. Over time it gets brighter gold and even sunnier (yep, those "solar notes" are in there, probably salicylates reminiscent of suntan lotion). Then at the half-hour mark, wow, it's SWEET too. Syrupy. Borderline grapey. The cinnamon is also back. But mostly we are in a bright yellow sweet grape juice zone. About an hour in, the cinnamon wins, and we're in a familiar Histoires de Parfums coppery, rusty warm-spices base. It's soft and hazy in texture, and only lightly sweet. 1472 is fun! Definitely on the feminine side, and arguably a bit too sweet for part of the journey, but a nice golden-yellow floral with a touch of classic glamour. It reminds me a bit of the suntan-lotion-and-Moscato vibe of Byzance, but 1472 is lighter and less annoying, and has added contrast from that cinnamon base.

I am a big fan of HdP, and so it was only a matter of time before I picked up a bottle of this fragrance. On first trying it out, I was a bit disappointed that it didn't embody what I had imagined, based on marketing or my own fancy perhaps. However, after repeated wearings, I have grown quite fond of this fragrance and have come to appreciate how different it is from the other HdP fragrances in my collection. There is a sort of duality to 1472 that I think really encapsulates the heaven & hell concept of the inspiration. On the one hand, the ylang-ylang and jasmine seem to be uplifted by the so-called "solar accord," appearing and reappearing above the main body of the composition. On the other hand, the composition is grounded in the dry earthiness of benzoin and amber, and slightly tinged with the aromatic artemisia and olibanum. Very long, dry drydown, dried herbs and cinnamon with dry olibanum. Very wearable, lovely fragrance.

Ylang ylang, Jasmine, Sunscreen-y grounded by decadence. Conceptually interesting. Top portraying the heaven (sun), middle portraying the purgatory (Flowers) and base portraying the hell (decadence). Together it creates a rather interesting and unique scent. On my skin, boosts of "solar note" that is often found in the sunscreens and jasmine that could be perceived indolic rush off the skin. This is supported by a bed of slight sweetness probably from cinnamon or rum and incensy. It's not the smoky kind of incense, more balsamic kind. I am slowly opening to the scent. I praise this for the uniqueness, but not mass-appealing.

To me, this smells heavy and thick, but kind of in a good way? I'm still not sure what to think of this perfume, when I smell it on me I feel like I'm at the auditorium seating getting ready for the next act of the play, but the theater is in 1880's time.

Mmm warm, ambery, floral, syrupy, inviting.

I went to the Paris boutique so excited to smell the new creation, wasn't impressed I guess due to nose fatigue but just today I got it and I can't stop smelling my hand, my wife says this is the best she smelled from my collection of 60 frags. The scent is a bit sweet smoky with Artemesia, Jasmin and Ylang Ylang. I love it.

A very rich amber. It's sweet, resinous, boozy, and floral. The latter takes it to a feminine territory, imo. It's one those scents that smell like "old money". Leans a bit old-school.

bright and sweet bouquet of white flowers...a sour incense make the composition interesting but it stays quiet without much character

Smokey Smokey Smokey and dry down is 100% baccarat rouge

imagine that its a warm winter (cold weather but without snow and the sun hits)so you are naked grandma walking out of the basement where you have been sitting for 30 years and youve just shaved all of your body hair including head hair ,brows etc. and youre wearing rotten shaving lotion. its in the bottle . long lasting, annoying,gave me a headache

The incense here smells a bit sour, almost like it's "gone off". I get a similarly fleshy, almost indolic ylang-ylang (which kind of reminds me of 31 Rue Cambon by Chanel), but in Chanel I find it cleaner and more pleasant.

Old and dusty dried flowers, cold coals and ashes. Smells like a very old house where the stove always smokes. Very depressing.

Really lovely until the dry down, then it gets quite unpleasant - the pleasant smokiness turns to an acrid burnt tone.

Time for a real review 😁 This is a ylang heavy amber. It’s feminine and very sweet. It smells yellow and syrupy like someone boiled ylang flower buds in sugar water and added benzoin,labdanum and vanilla to the mix. With all of that being said it’s not hefty. It’s very airy and diffusive. The cinnamon,incense and rum keep it from being juvenile or cheap smelling. The solar note is probably just ambroxan like it is with every other brand. It smells like the jasmine in this is Hedione for the diffusiveness it has. This is very luxurious and a femme fatale but not in a dark red lipstick and dark eye makeup way. This femme fatale wears white fur and pink lipstick and can manipulate a man to do anything she wants without coming off like a sexpot. She’s almost angelic and has never been told no her whole life. This smells the way Emma Frost looks from marvel comics. If you have some feminine traits a man could absolutely wear this. This would make a good everyday scent or a special occasion scent. This does have a smidge of an 80s yellow floral vibe without the hamfisted heft the 80s scents had. The longer you wear it the more prominent the amber is. This is worth the money. I purchased two for $90 from fragrancex.

Histoires de Parfums was my first introduction to serious fragrances, and I have a number from their range that rank among my favourites. 1472, while a fascinating and memorable scent, is not completely to my taste. It is warm and long-lasting, and strongly oriental, but not as opulent as others of its type. This smells more of pressed flowers in the parlour room of a respectable lady of a certain age (I picture Jane Seymour for some reason). There is something of the sacred in it, though, like church incense, which seems appropriate for a scent inspired by Dante Alighieri. I enjoyed wearing while hosting dinner parties, and have received some compliments from guests, but not as much as when I wear other HdP fragrances like 1740 and 1725.

At once milky and smoky. Reminds me of Lush Sikkim Girls but way lighter and more aromatic. Longevity is a bit iffy, you can still make it out after wearing it for many hours but the volume is barely at the level of a whisper after the 3 - 4 hour mark or so on me.

When you spray La Divina Commedia, your senses are going through all nine yards. Dark, heavy smoke, booze and sin—and somewhere along the way, I traded my half bottle for weed. Wear it if you’re feeling like a pope with a criminal record.

On my skin this fragrance is super floraly, with notes of jasmine and ylang ylang. On the dry down some more of the ambery notes come out, not an in your face amber (like that of ambre 114).

Super sweet incense, benzoin in this is delicious, cinnamon is present but not oppressive. Artemisia is the very atout. In general very smooth and velvety, but a little too sweet.

This smells so good. It took me a while to figure out what it reminded me of. Yes, Baghari keeps bringing the memories back. Nice, comforting scent.
