Prolixe

Prolixe is my favourite of the En Aparte collection, one that has unfortunately left me feeling slightly disappointed. I’d had high hopes for these fragrances, and where Outrecuidant - the one I thought I would like the most - has the most tenacious fruity pineapple note that never manages to mature on my skin, Irrévérent, though beautiful and seamlessly constructed, does not present me with anything new (it reminds me of a handful of other French perfumes I own and hugely appreciate). Prolixe opens in a way that reminds me very much of Hermés’ “Un Jardin Apres la Mousson”, with soft, aromatic cardamom and a fresh, almost aquatic ginger. Perhaps it is the rose accord, which is there from the start, that is the watery type, like it is adorned with morning dew. All these notes combined, against the backdrop of gentle vanilla sweetness, smell like pandanus water to my nose; refreshing, exotically spiced, and quite edible. This stage lasts on my skin for a good thirty minutes. After this point you get the smoky warmth of olibanum developing, the warmth bordering on lactonic, much like how benzoin resinoid smells on my skin. There is a smooth creaminess like sandalwood that weaves through making Prolixe feel fresh and cooling to me, even though the spices, rose water, and milky facets encourage this fragrance to lean slightly gourmande, though it never grows too sweet. The performance is outstanding on my skin, emitting a milky, sweet tobacco cloud for hours each time I move. Sometimes you catch remnants of the aquatic spices of the opening, and the watery rose, at other times a honeyed halmaddi incense. Really beautiful.

A gorgeous woody gourmand Oriental, Prolixe is yet another superb new offering from HDP who have really upped their ante with the three offerings of the ‘En Aparte’ series. The perfume opens on a gourmand note of grapefruit, pineapple and cassis. The heart has a pronounced saffron surrounded by cardamom and orange blossom. The perfume settles into a powdery bed of sandalwood and cedar surrounded by hints of leather, patchouli and labdanum. Like it’s name, the perfume suggests a prolific, confident and unafraid gentleman who is somewhat unconcerned about what other people think of him. Masculine leaning with pronounced sillage, projection and longevity this is a perfume designed to stop people in their tracks to figure out the strange wonderful beast of a smell that is beholding them. Enjoy!

A wonderful and powerful scent. Reminiscent of my childhood, playing in my father's rose garden. Opens with spices and precious woods, with a wonderful rose rising after some minutes, the intense floral attack modulated by spices and resins. Earthy notes and superb precious woods support the rose. Rose and earthy tobacco linger for hours. A picture of a rose bouquet sitting in an exotic hardwood vase, in the corner of a smoky jazz bar. The DNA of HdP is easily recognised. The scent is exquisite, intoxicating and on the heavier side. A spray or two goes a very long way. Excessive application will overwhelm the nose. A fantastic cold weather perfume, or a bedroom scent when lightly applied. A sensual and graceful smell - a tier above most designer scents.

I tested this in Jovoy Paris and straight away got myself a bottle. The opening is so delicious, it was instant love. A hazy, spicy saffron melds with the warm, tart sweetness of pineapple and orange blossom. The leather here is like soft, velvety suede. It's not too gasoline like, no allusion to oud, just a nice, natural leather with prominant patchouli adding a dark richness. The sweetness of the fruit lasts for about an hour, after which the floral elements become more pronounced. The texture even turns a little powdery and there's a hint of vanilla beneath it all. This I think is completely unisex, and the character it projects is sultry, mysterious and alluring. A good date night perfume.

I'm loving Prolixe. I'm on day 2 of sampling the three new offerings by HDP, and this is my favorite. Im picking up a good synthetic Oud, with leather and cardamom over a bed of rose petals, and 8 hours later I can still catch whiffs of myself. Impressive. At the 8 hour mark Prolixe is softer, as expected, but it hasn't turned to a skinscent. This is not sweet, it feels well balanced on me. I think the shoulder seasons of Spring and Fall are a perfect fit for this fragrance. I'm going to pick up the small .5 oz size and see how much I love it before committing to a full bottle but this one is unique.

Like all fragrances from Histoires de Parfums “Prolixe” is a high-quality, long-lasting, and rich scent. It leans heavy to the masculine side with olibanum and tobacco being the main notes strongly supported by a deep and radiant rose. After a spicy opening provided by cardamom and ginger a smoky olibanum makes a strong and bold appearance supported with a very deep and dark juicy rose and earthy patchouli. Great wafts of fresh cut tobacco and oud weave through the long dry-down of this fabulous scent. This projects very well and lasts a good 12 hours on my skin. Very highly recommended!

Very well crafted scent, Opulent oud but still not animalic with hints of rose and spices, the spices are not overwhelming. The rose note is not scratchy or skanky, a very well delicate juicy rose. i sense chocolate nuances. Overall, This is a gentleman fragrance suited in my opinion for classy events. Super classy scent. I would personally wear in the winter or autumn. Longevity and projections are good but just over the AVG. If you like Oud rose fragrances this is a bottle worthy ! Update: the projection and longevity is really lacking... so unfortunate 9/10

Wow! What a stunner. I was a bit concerned about the pineapple note. I'm not keen of fruit notes as a rule but this really contributes to this intense beauty. Bang on unisex. Yes the saffron and leather dominate followed shortly by the sandalwood. The pineapple and spices add that wonderful touch of sweetness and kick. The dry down is slightly sweet, strong spicy/saffron/leather. To the end the leather keeps going. Its a slightly sweet and spicey leather. Great longevity and good sillage. This is one for cold weather weather. It warms and embraces you.

Yes this fragrance is beautiful! It may be my favorite of the line, even though I bought it last, after being seduced by the idea of Irreverent. This one is sweet but woody and feminine and soft but not as powdered as Ambre114. After an afternoon, it is still noticeable and lovey, with a bit of cocoa cinnamon /undefined dry spice. It must be the cardamom mixing with the dryness of the leather. The leather is not strong, it is well balanced with the spice and earthy. It seems like a perfect earthy floral and I am in love.

@pierreelkhoury just want to let you know that my listing of notes for "Prolixe" is accurate (directly from the Histoires de Parfums website) and the Outrecuidant notes listed here on Fragrantica appear to still be incorrect -- the Outrecuidant notes (as per the Histories de Parfums website) are as follows: Top notes: Grapefruit, Cassis, Pineapple Middle notes: Saffron, Cardamom, Orange Blossom Base notes: Cedar, Sandalwood, Patchouli, Leather, Labdanum

Intense but not overwhelming. Woody tobacco without sweetness, dried roses, as if an old wooden box that once held cigars now contained old rose petals, and a few very fresh, very green cardamom pods. I don't detect as much patchouli as the olfactory pyramid suggests. A comforting touch of moistureIt has a particular, timeless elegance; it smells like some imaginary country between Middle East and West, full of culture and gardens.

This is a beautiful scents its one of those scents that unfolds and as it does it just makes you go back for more, although its better if you smell it in the air rather than directly off your skin. its a very seductive and alluring scent. It keeps me coming back for more and more highly addictive i must say. 9.5/10

This is what would happen if Amouage Enclave and Guerlain Tobacco Honey had a baby. It's fricking gorgeous. Blew me away.

He left the cast party early, the crush of too many people pretending to like one another and the ones who liked him while he pretended not to notice-as much as the ones he liked who pretended not to notice him. It was tiring and his mind had turned to more melancholy thoughts anyway. The scent of baking spice and charcuterie clung to his clothes and hair as he stepped out into the night, donning a soft bordeaux leather jacket and enjoying the familiar smell of the inside of his motorcycle helmet as he mounted the bike and left without saying goodbye. He wanted to think and breathe the night air on the twisting literal backroads, eager to come to an epiphany about his own metaphorical crossroads. He rode for what seemed like hours but his enlightenment never came. On the side of a misty unmarked road straddling a dark field, boots crunching in the damp gravel he pulled off his helmet and stared into his worst fear: missed opportunity. One missed call from one he fancied. The sweet cardamom and buttery leather mingled in the fog and eagar now to escape, he fired up the engine, opened his jacket, and let the fog cleanse and baptise him as he left it all behind. Strong fresh rose and oud notes, supported nicely by cardamom and Chamomile. It's a slightly animalic oud to my nose. Not a lot though. Just enough to make it interesting. This is a nice spicy, Rose-Oud scent with a herbal background from the Chamomile. Patchouly is also a big part of the blend. Heavy and dense, but also has a clean tone to it. Longevity is a solid 7-9 hours easily. I get strong projection for several hours, and never really fades all the way to a skin scent. Total nose blindness isn't an issue, but i do go note blind from time to time. The cardamom never disappears, but the rose and oud can blink in and out for short periods of time. I can even taste it, if i smell it too close for a few seconds. Strong stuff. Fall, winter and early spring, this is nice. Too much for warm spring days and summer. Even a warm early autumn day will be rough. Day or night. Work friendly, absolutely date worthy. Semi-casual to full formal. Personal score: 8/10. I have a bottle, and i enjoy wearing it, and i will recommend sampling it.

Chocolate pipe tobacco The best one in the En Aparté trilogy, a spicy Oriental which in the overlap of non-gourmand ingredients finds a gourmand accord deep within. Very complex and confusing when i try to pick all the notes but enjoyable when I just let it flow without intricate analysis. ..sticky green blackcurrant bud, indolic orange blossom, saffron and cardamom... This is where things begin to transition to a gourmand style of perfume: sweet patchouli and milky sandalwood combine into a chocolate accord. This is set upon a black leather accord to finish things. All in all a kind of sweet pipe tobacco-chocolate flavored type of perfume in a good way (but there is no tobacco leaf note in or even chocolate), but not easy to like at first sight. good longevity and sillage

This is really interesting. Prolixe is a dark and warm tobacco rose. I definitely get a little tartness mixing with the rose note but I don't think it turns dill pickle (like I experienced with Byredo's super cedar) to my nose its a more natural blackcurrant. I also smell something zingy and herbal, like hints of fresh mint leaves and cloves in the opening that combine with the tart fruit and rose over a base of musky dark chocolate. Lots of olfactory illusions with this one but I quite enjoy it! Reminds me a little of HdP's Fidelis without the punch of raspberry. I'd like to wear this if I was in the mood for something a little dramatic and very french, but I think it would smell even better on my husband! The dry down is super smooth.

First things first, the notes on here are wrong. There is cinnamon and no chamomile. Fragrantica literally wrote an article on this fragrance and talked about the cinnamon but yet it's not in the notes?! I love the opening and mid but the drydown kinda goes into potpourri territory a bit more than I'd like. Spicy cardamom oriental fragrance. I love the tobacco but it needs more of it. I can see why this is popular but I can't shake the potpourri feeling in the base. This is a pass for me but others seem to love it so take my opinion with a grain of salt. Edit: the more I wear this the more I like it! Scent 7/10 Performance 7/10

Testing somewhat blind along others in the same series, I get an initial rose element followed by, IDK, an array of wonderfully blended perfumery? It's nicely intoxicating while remaining more dusk than dark and mysterious. Has a distinct classiness to it suggesting more special occasion or time for cocktails. Looking at the notes now, I can distinctly pick up the chamomile as a dominant note amongst the others, followed by a blend of the tobacco, oud, and olibanum. Very nice and feels elegant and a hint manly in a lighter fashion without being overly done or relying too much on obvious 'man' notes.

My take on this is really balanced perfume, all notes blended very well together, kind of give you one smell but at the same time you can detect the notes as hint of cardamom olibanum rosey oud with slight dusty tobacco, gives me the feeling like it all covered by bananish smell very slightly. Oriental leaning Arabic style, classy and very nice “almost not” a dark scent it has like freshi feel, an olibanum rosey Oud that unisex leans masculine to my taste. Big like

A classic tobacco, rose, oud scent with an added warm, spicy tang from cinnamon, cardamom, and ginger. As others have said, chamomile is not in Histoires' official note listing, though I can see how one might recognize its scent buried deep in the composition. This one is definitely not an oversprayer, as it oddly enough ends up smelling a bit like pickles - kind of nauseating, actually. 7.5/10

This one changes. For some reason I am getting suede, but it's not in the notes. Think its the combination of the rose and cardamom. This is a dark, mature, seductive mysterious and imho a masculine scent. To my nose, it's also not linear. It changes in the drydown and to me gets better and better after initial spray. I am testing this and 1740 side by side. 8/10

Very similar to Tabac Rose, but not as heavy as sickly sweet. The opening and the first hour are a lot better in Prolixe. Sadly, it doesn't last long.

Penhaligon's Yasmine without coffee note.

Another weird one. This is very mentholated, camphoraceous and slightly salty-marine-like on my skin. The oud here is very synthetic and rubbery. Yet also very sickly sweet. @Hellivard's description of a "jellyfish drowned in honey" - spot-on. I also have Tabac Rose, which I found prominently oud and very camphoraceous-menthol-sweet as well, but Prolixe is less rosy and more marine-y for some reason.

overall uncertainty here. at first spray, my girlfriend immediately told me she didnt like it. i wasnt ready to make that claim so quickly - so i've waited a week and here i am. So how would i describe this? Honeyed baby powder. As terrible of a description as that is, it's my best shot - and i genuinely feel like it's semi-accurate. at least as accurate as i'm going to get. It's an interesting scent. I really like that it's unique - yet it retains a certain quality that is present in other HDP scents that i've owned/tried/tested. On the flip side, there's something juvenile about this. No, not the baby powder - something else that's tough to pinpoint. Something that makes it seem forgettable - even unwearable. These are big words, i know - and i dont truly believe it's unwearable. As i said before, i'm uncertain. What i do know is it's not something that suits me. It's not a hate - or even a strong dislike - it's just a blah. I do appreciate that it's unique - and i will say that i get good performance out of it. Just not for me. 4/10

سومین عضو از سه گانه ان اپارته . یکی از پست ترین عطرهایی بوده که تو طول عمرم تست کردم . عطری که مرزهای سنتتیک رو جابجا کرده و معنی جدیدی به فضای کیمیکال بخشیده . من سه بار این عطر و تست کردم و هر سه بار سرم سنگین شد و احساس سر درد بهم دست داد. برای من که استانه تحمل خیلی بالایی تو دریافت بو ها دارم . این یک سم بود جوری که ریه هام توان پذیرش از این حجم از بوی اسید طور رو نداشت . وای به حال بقییه . عطر. توان اینو نداشتم که ریه هام پر کنم از بوی این عطر. حتی از عطرهای درجه سوم اماراتی هم مزخرف تره . بویی شبیه به اینسنس استیک های هندی و پاکستانی ( عود ) داره که با بوی هل ترکیب شده . اگه قرار باشه دنیای عطرهای نیش به این سمت بره . چهار طرف این دنیای مزخرف و کیمیال رو می‌بوسم. و میرم کنار .

Like a rotting Xmas tree at first, morphs into something headachey, powdery, cloying. An easy pass for me.

It keeps me returning to it, even tho I find it unpalatable. It conjures an image of a poisonous jellyfish drowned in honey.

I'd like to clarify all of this by saying that the brands supply this information to Fragrantica. So stop showing angst towards Fragrantica, which Avery useful tool/website that all of you obviously use. I'm not some Fragrantica apologist and fanboy, but the truth is it's not their fault. The majority of the literature and notes on this website are provided by the brands. I'm not sure if HdP's reasoning behind this is that they're trying to purposefully confuse you so if you read the notes for Prolixe and like them you then buy Prolixe only to realize that it's actually Outrecuidant that you want... so you purchase two bottles of perfume. This also might be a marketing scheme or a social experiment to see how fragrantica and notes effect the purchase of fragrances. We can speculate all day long, but the truth is that if you purchase the 15ml bottles of these fragrances then the accompanying pamphlet provided by HdP has the notes listed just as Fragrantica does. Once you smell the fragrances then your realize something isn't right, and upon further inspection that their websites have the notes listed correctly. Prolixe actually has: ginger, cardamom, olibanum, rose, patchouli, and oud. It is of high quality, but you've smelled this before if you've tried cheaper middle eastern perfumes. Though the dry down is a smooth smokey yet soapy rose, a slight leathery saffron, and enjoyable on the whole it's not something to consider full bottle worthy if you're into fragrances for new and different experiences. Outrecuidant has: grapefruit, cassis, pineapple, cardamom, orange blossom, cedar, sandalwood, patchouli, labdanum/ciste, and leather. This is a safer scent, but at the same time it's still interesting and oriental in a sense... kind of has a juicy fruit vibe. No one is questioning the notes of Irreverent but I'd like to say that I did not find this fragrance palatable the first several times I sampled it (same goes for Rare Fidelis); a year later and Rare Fidelis is definitely my favorite from the line and Irreverent is my favorite from the black bottles. So remember to give your fragrances time and a second chance!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ This right here,ladies and gentlemen of PFC is my discovery of the year 2023 so far. And it'll have to be an absolutely amazing fragrance to change that, now that 2023 is ending soon. What can I say about it? Am I surprised it comes from HDP? Absolutely not. Am I disappointed that it took me this long to try? Yes. But in my defense it's extremely hard to find. In terms of Rose fragrances this for me now stands right next to Encens Mythique and generally amongst my all time best fragrances that I've put my nose on. The initial notes are very unique. Borderline peculiar. You expect this from Julien Rasquinet however. He has a fragrance called Petroleum to his name too. It's almost very cooling cinnamon that greets you right from the start. Backed by very slight Rose that's almost too shy and passive to come on-board just yet. But then things start to change. In an almost symphonic manner Cinnamon dials down and Rose comes up. This transition,is hands down the best change of notes I've ever smelt in any fragrance and this is a HUGE testament to this brand's amazing blending and quality. Rose has now taken the centre stage but soon after Cardamom joins in. Backed some by slight resins and Coffee. This is by far the most enjoyable phase of this fragrance. It's an absolute treat and you'll have a hard time resisting not smelling this every few minutes. I know because I was struggling to do so. Leaves a silky texture on your skin to boot. In the drydown it's pretty much the same. But Chamomile now adds to the mix. A beautiful relaxing white floral sweet delicate honeyed presence that's just perfectly done. Not too little not too much. That's what imo takes it to a totally different strata. From fragrance,to art,to a transitional olfactory specimen to out and out therapy. This fragrance is just magic. A true joy to behold and own. Oh and the most beautiful presentation with pages that actually tell a story about this fragrance. I mean. Mind = Blown. 10/10.

Prolixe developed quite nicely into a beautiful fragrance that is well blended. Prolixe is a nice fragrance, so don't judge the initial seconds too quickly. The saffron and the light hint of leather (suede-like) appear after a minute or so, and it's quite beautiful. The leather is very faint though. After a few minutes, the fruitiness comes out, and is refreshing. Overall, this is my second time wearing Prolixe. I'd picture a man who is very soft spoken wearing this. This is a fragrance that can be worn on any occasion, although more so for recreational after work occasions. For me, that is the burning question on wear to wear Prolixe. Prolixe is not a blow you away fragrance like History of Perfumes Fiedelis, but very nice, and smells of high quality. This fragrance is extremely smooth, but a tad too sweet for my liking. Also, this fragrance develops into a moderate projecting fragrance relatively quickly. Overall, it's a safe fragrance, and I would even say it leans a little feminine. Overall, it's nice, but not my cup of tea. Overall, I could see a soft spoken gentlemanly type or professional woman loving this one. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

I have admit, I was astounded to look at the notes on HdP site and the reviews here and not find dill, because the opening of this smells for all the world like pickle juice to me. Interesting, particularly because it's apparently an impression formed by the spaces in between other notes, but not something I'd generally douse myself with. Olibanm? That's a note I'm not familiar with. Pickle continues in drydown but some friends appear as well: cardamom, rose, tobacco, which normalize things somewhat. Within about 90 mins it has harmonized into something I might try wearing occasionally, but is a skin scent by then also, with a long tapering trail. A learning experience and interesting, but not something I'd keep around even just to wear around the house.

Smoky, leathery, resinous sandalwood and spices, like clove and cardamom... I don't smell any fruit or citrus at all. Leaning masculine and a mature masculine at that. Rich, quality and grounded (patchouli?!) smell, just not for me. EDIT to add: the pyramid here definitely looked off, so I looked it up on their site, here it is (and I guess I wasn't too far off in what I smelled upon testing ) : || Filled with a wealth of details. - Ginger, Cardamom - || Revealing distraction and wandering. - Olibanum, Rose - || Excessive, exuberant. - Patchouli, Tobacco, Oud - Main notes: Oliban, Rose, Tabacco

This perfume from the new line HDP and after testing this perfume many times, I bought the whole collection including this perfume which is not my taste, it's very sweet and the pineapple note is not appearing here and the cardamom with saffron is making the perfume soft and intense at the same time the composition of leather and sandalwood it's coming at the end as a familiar note for the other perfumes. it's good for the people whos looking for soft intense perfume but not noticeable. Overall 6/10.

The opening of Prolixe is bright, almost pink in color, it has a prominent rose that has fruity Lychee like nuances combined with a light frankincense note, not heavy or balsamic but fresh and bright. I can detect some fresh spices in the first few minutes, mainly ginger. Later on, it moves to a darker base with bitter tobacco and a smoky leathery note that almost feels like saffron with hints of patchouli.

Blind test: musky leathery amber. Hay and a little herbal. After seeing the notes definitely feeling the saffron. The true slightly bitter kind. Quite masculine a little dry. Reminds me a little of cobra and the Canary with a slight asphalt feel. Hard leather. I can smell the citruses too makes it a little juicy but still dry in a sense that it's not sweet.

Interesting mature spicy combo of cardamom and subtle ginger that's contrasted by a rose-tobacco in the back, more wearable and put together BDK's Tabac Rose, but at the cost of being more boring. Mediocre performance

For me, this one is almost Ambregris. Not sure if the notes are still confused with the other one... But yes, this one is one of the best Ambregris I have ever smelled

I dont get it, all i have sniffed from this house is below average , only good scent is noir patcholi Prolixe is another fail ...... Nothing to write about even

@tige60 those are "Outrecuidant Histoires de Parfums" notes that you've posted, don't mind there are three similar looking bottles of the same serie.

Smells like Tabac Rose but with not as much quality. Prolixe can get quite sickly after a while Unique enough to consider sampling

Guys,the pyramid is totally wrong, Prolixe has Outrecuidant notes. Fragantica, please correct this, it is confusing.

You have mixed up the pyramids between Outrecuidant and Prolixe ☝🏼☝🏼
