Rosam

I have been searching for just one review that agrees with me, but I haven’t found any. To me, both on a blotter and on my skin, Rosam is one of the most saffron centric perfumes I have smelled in a long time. Where I have found saffron notes to be metallic and screechy at best, this one hits you like the scent of freshly bloomed Iranian saffron in rose water. Of course the rose is there but only to complement the saffron, to make it more floral. I don’t detect any Oud or patchouli myself, but I do get soft, comforting sandalwood; again, right in the background to further smoothen the saffron and rose. And it absolutely lasts. I was trying a handful of fragrances at the same time, and Rosam was by far the most powerful and persevering, eclipsing all the other scents on my arms. Really well done, elegant, and refined; ideal for summer. Edit - 1st March 2023: My partner has never liked this one, commenting today that it was “horrible” and smelled “like roots”. It was later likened to “those roots you sometimes put in pulao”: vetiver root. A Guyanese friend of mine had stated that I smelled of paan (betel leaf) when I had wore this at dinner. I am not sure where these people are getting the green notes from...

cyborg roses floating in safraleine metallic bath. could be something cdg put out: organic/industrial done right. seems like rosam pulls off the kind of frag sospiro - for example - seems desperately tyrying to, for a fraction of the cost. perhaps the most 'mainstream' of this superb "editions rare" trilogy, but still holds plenty of interest and severe, assertive beauty

This fragrance is now my go to unisex rose! As much as I enjoy Portrait of a Lady, I find it a little to heavy to wear on a semi- regular basis. Rosome is lighter but still has the longevity that I love from Portrait of a Lady. This is a welcome addition to my collection and I can see myself wearing this, with a dark suit in the cooler months. Quality Sensuality!

Nice smelling niche fragrance that manages to keep the rose scent afloat for many hours without the out overpowering it. It is one of those rare rose fragrances that to my nose leans more masculine (most probably because of the base notes).

Oh yea , This goes well with a pair of jeans , short sleve button up shirt , Rolex or Omega on the wrist , Cup of Coffee on any day of the week or month of the year.10/10 for being good .

This is one of the best perfumes roses, Longevity is wonderful on the skin,and the smell very cool i love it

the best oud-rose combination!

Absolutely love this one! As another reviewer says: simply the best rose-oud combination. It's the beauty of the whole - a stunning rose paired with a soft oud, far from the harsh oud often found in many fragrances. The composition is supported by saffron, sandalwood, amber....probably. But it is so well blended that you don't notice much the supporting notes. I see this basically as a masculine fragrance, but I am sure many women would find it irresistible as well. EDIT: Well...thoughts after some time...not really the best rose-oud combination, but still good and interesting.

This is a darker, richer take on HDP Blue Bottle 1.3. That one is a little fresher and uses blood orange and this is a more traditional rose oud combo. The saffron/oud/rose here feels almost like it's charged with static electricity. It has an electric buzz to my nose that I like. Performance is strong on my skin. Whether or not the market needed another rose oud scent is debatable. But in any case, this is a great option in that genre and better than most I've tried. Scent 8/10 Performance 8/10

Less oily and balsamic than Oud Satin Mood however This is still a very strong, dark red rose - I smell a mix of Taif rose and a Dark Red rose with a strong oud base. A lot of spices as well Smells more natural than other rose+oud combinations I have tried however it is still very, very heavy and indulgent

Testing this (TPC sample) I must 2nd Archivist's review below: it has a very 'Montale' oud/rose/saffron opening. There's a definite petrol profile (or black latex) to the oud, absolutely. It's lovely if you like those rich, deep, oily oud/rose combos... but I'll stick w/ my Montales ;)

I agree with some other reviewers that there’s nothing groundbreaking here, this is the classic rose–saffron–oud combination you’ll find at many houses. But that doesn’t make it bad or boring. I own and love many rose-based fragrances, and I can definitely see the similarities people point out. Some compare it to Café Rose, and while I do find them similar, Café Rose feels fresher and more like a dewy rosebud (I already have a full review on that one, so I won’t repeat myself here). I’ve always been a fan of Histoires de Parfums, so I wanted to experience all the juices in the Rare line. For me, Ambrarem is the most wearable and crowd pleasin, though compared to mainstream offerings, the entire line is still wonderfully “out there.” My personal favorite remains Rare Petroleum, challenging, but I’m vibing with it. I finally got my hands on Rare Rosam a couple of days ago and have been wearing it non-stop. I like it a lot. It does exactly what’s on the tin, so I’m not sure why people expect anything different. Interestingly, this is also the most complimented scent in the Rare line for me, bonus points if that matters to you. The blending here is beautiful. The rose is present but never overpowering, the saffron comes through strongly on my skin, and the oud ties everything together in perfect harmony. Personally, I wouldn’t mind a touch more barnyard-style Indian oud, but that’s just my taste (I love barnyard, so no complaints). Performance is excellent, effortless all day wear for me. Definitely a keeper.

Testing this blind it is obvious this is an oud based and centered fragrance. I get whiffs of florals and herbs, but mostly an oudy aromatic fragrance that is adult, mature and as far as oud goes a little more clean and "fragrant"? It's romantic and sensual but casually oudy... like a daytime oud that is warm and intimately inviting, but not overdone by far. Looking at the notes now, and what others preference, the oud is definitely more pronounced than anything else. Any presence of roses is second or third to the oud, complimenting it, but never overriding it. While the rose might suggest a feminine fragrance, a very masculine person can pull this off. It's incense oudy, in a blanket of rose. Great performance makes it a worth wild buy.

The structure of this fragrance is quite direct, built around rose, saffron, incense, and oud. The opening presents a rather dry rose, with oud appearing almost immediately. The start feels dense and fairly heavy. In the heart, saffron pushes the rose slightly into the background, adding a spicy tone with a faint metallic edge. Incense introduces a subtle smoky and resinous character. At this stage, the oud functions more as a base, supporting the composition and giving it stability. In the drydown, amber, sandalwood, and patchouli smooth out the texture. The fragrance remains centered on rose and oud throughout. This is a very common structure, and it does not offer much in terms of originality. Longevity and projection are both strong.

@Erinka the comparison to bug spray comes from Citronella. It can be quite heavy in rose and oud perfumes. The combination of Rose+Oud+Saffron is a horse that has been flogged to death. Every fragrance line has one, and everyone tries to (pretty much has to) do something different with it. Is this perfume different enough to warrant a purchase, when there are so many other great R+O+S combos available? If I have one thing to say in favour of this bottle over any other, it would be that it becomes super smooth once it settles on the skin. And smoothness is a very good thing. You could do better, you can definitely do worse.

A brittle, mouldering rose and incense from the start, and a sort of pleasant breeziness that reminds me faintly of mothballs. If you shut Queen Elizabeth in a cupboard for a little while, this is what I'd expect you'd smell on first opening the door. Well blended and interesting, but ancient and kind of severe in its way.

First few minutes smell strongly of rubbing alcohol, then Oud gives a very strong leaded petrol smell for much of the first few hours. The rose and saffron are dark and metallic. This one is an interesting take on the rose-oud combo, but not the best for me. 6/10

It;s a typical strong and longlasting rose-oud combo. Oud is nicely balanced and it's not sweet. It can be unisex. It's a good scent but there's nothing unique about it - you can easily find cheaper, and sometimes even better, alternatives.

Very intense! I ordered this along with 5 other samples from Skins Cosmetics, NL. As I tore away the envelope, "Rosam" was humming its song through the box. Lustrous feminine roses, pungent leathery saffron and a rich, black, tarry oud note that for the first time did not remind me of band-aids. This oud reminded me more of petrol in its initial pungency, and then lacquered wood. Very striking, if not a little overwhelming. I've smelled a lot of rose + oud perfumes. By far my favorite is still "Noir de Noir" by Tom Ford, but even I admit the oud note there is not the most intense or authentic (and that's probably why I like it). I don't know how authentic the oud in "Rosam" is, but it's too strong for me, as was the intense leatheriness of the saffron. This is definitely more snarling dominatrix than beguiling Eastern beauty. *UPDATE* Yeesh, this stuff is strong! Finally tested a tiny spray on my skin and I feel like I've been soaked in rose water and gasoline. This is a definite scrubber for me. Sorry!

This reminds me of another rose-oud perfume that I ended up giving away: Royal Rose Aoud by M. Micallef. If I had to isolate the reason why it would rest on the kind of oud(h) used in this composition. It’s the skanky, civet version of oud that I don’t like. Combined with a very strong rose, then mixed with patchouli, sandalwood and saffron (same combo used in Royal Rose Aoud), there’s something too powdery and musty-old “past it’s prime time” on my skin. One caveat is that this thing has legs; it’s still going strong in its first phase (more than 90 minutes), but I’m going to wash it off. Headache in a bottle. I don’t find it pretty or interesting, and it’s a strong pass.

So sad, this was just insecticide on me. Non of the lovely scents that were described here. When I got the sample I was hoping for something reminiscent of anais anais but sadly it was just very strong chemical kind of petrol smell. I haven’t worn it for longer than a few hours because it gives me a headache. I was really wanting to love this and for those that it works for you, I wish I could smell it in it’s the glory

Reminds me of their This Is Not A Blue Bottle 1.3. Very similar, except that one runs a bit cleaner and more soapy while this run is more oud+saffron+rose. Still very pungent though. I'm not a fan of this combination and find OSM by MFK similarly too screechy.

Smells exactly like OFF! bug spray. I can’t get over how strong and reminiscent of OFF it is on my skin and out of the bottle. Glad I only got a sample of this one because it is not pleasant for me.

Vintage smelling rose and oud. Not for me.

Among the Edition Rare, Rosam seems to be the overlooked one. The rose/oud combo makes it sound as just another (forgettable) delivery in the overly crowded Dark Rose / Black Aoud / Portrait of a Lady territory: wrong! Rosam doesn't resemble of any of those (more or less) monumental releases of the same "family". It opens with an incredibly efemeral yet beautiful watery/transparent rose note joined by subtle citruses and a touch of incense to quickly evolve into a velvety and sort of creamy sweet/woody-oud/ambery base with a remarkable saffron note. The oud note is nowhere similar to the Montale. Forget the medicinal/harsh quality and be prepared for something dark, woody and smooth. The transition from the opening to the drydown occurs pretty soon devoiding the rose of the initial watery and slightly acidic aspect. In this phase Rosam results balmy, enveloping and definitely velvety. Rose is there, remarkable and necessary but unlike other fragrances such as Portrait Of A Lady and Black Aoud, is definitely more blended and sort of restrained. On paper and fabric, the opening accord is much more durable and persists also during the drydown which occours much more later than on the skin. Probably not as outstanding as Petroleum and Ambrarem, but surely not something to overlook. Rating: 7/10

boy this is strong stuff. There is something leady in it, thick and cold. Very strange combination of oud and rose, a bit fresh in the opining( i smell tangerine and petitgrain?) maybe it's the taif rose mixed with incense and saffron which brings you to something "familiar" but not really. It distracts you from the real rose, I imagine a fragrance like Love Kills, Coup de Grace or Milieu Rose submerged in oud solution. I figure that black raw petrol stickyness. There's quite a lot of spices to me such as cloves and black pepper. The more it dries down the more it gets strong. I still think it is a wearable fragrance, on the adventurous and artistic edge. Dark and somehow allouring, maturely flirting. I imagine it on a person who has his/her eyes a bit hidden by hair, who says very few words, low voiced. Almost gothic or apocalyptic! I can't decifrate the feeling it gives me even though the notes are clear and there is no mistery in them, but the way they are blended is so special. Mind you, it is very very powerful, there are no skin scents here

Recently I saw Onegin at the San francisco ballet. The lead ballerina gave a performance so beautiful it made me cry. In one scene, where everyone was dancing, she came out of nowhere to glide across the stage on her toes, as light as air. Rosam smells like that. This is an ultra feminine, airy scent. I always think I"m getting jilted when first applying, as it immediately fades to the background. But it stays there... for hours. And the performance never wears, its just as spritely at the end of the day as the beginning. But back to my roses. Oh I love them in oud compositions, especially when paired with sandalwood and incense Caron's Pour Une Femme parfum is my signature scent, so this combo always gets my applause. Saffron can be a stinker on me, but here it acts as a hand hold, not a hard landing. I don't get any citrus and very little patchouli. Rosam is truly a beautiful composition. I'm quite the fan, and am putting on my 'consider buying' list.

Oh dear heaven, this is the most exquisite rose and oud combination, call me crazy but it almost made me cry. This is such kind of a beauty you only meet a couple of times in a decade. This is so damn beautiful!!! This perfume house never disappoints me. Rosam opens with fresh roses and sharp medicinal oud, after that the composition becomes muskier with a considerable touch of sandalwood, and basically it smells like a bunch of fresh dewy white, pink, ivory and dark red roses scattered over freshly printed out thick glossy Vogue magazines, all that in a very clean room minimalistically furnished with crazily expensive wooden stuff and the windows are wide open to the park: it's a spring morning. This is amazing and totally worth the price tag.

8:50 - Rose, patchouli, and rubbing alcohol. 10 - Going strong, roses and gasoline. You know when a fragrance *clicks*? Like, the right chemistry, the right temperature, and the right juice are all in alignment? Totally what is happening. almost 1 - The drydown is a rather dull amber. I wish some of the patchouli or sandalwood had stuck around. Overall this is a no for me, but it isn't a bad perfume. The rose-oud combo has become somewhat generic to my nose, though I have come across some extraordinary versions. This isn't one of them. What sets this apart is how it captures that feeling of, I don't know, satisfaction? The thrill of smelling gasoline. It does that very well.

Good Rose-Oud interpretation... I like this one. It's a fresh, woody interpretation of the rose-oud combination that is refreshing and enjoyable. I get the rose, but the oud has a petrol-like aspect that remind me of Dior - Fahrenheit , so I would describe it as Fahrenheit with a prominent rose note. It's really nice. I also get the sandalwood, saffron, amber and incense. The rose note is really good in this, and the Oud is not dark enough to be overbearing. They compliment each other really well. However, if money is an issue, then there are dozens of other rose-oud combinations out there.

For those of you who adore saffron and oud scattered with dark red rose petals this beautifully crafted fragrance is for you! I would characterize it as a far more masculine leaning fragrance due to its heavy oud with a bitter edge thanks to the saffron. Most special is the true presence of rose which tends to be smothered by the forementioned notes! As usual, Gerald Ghislain has concocted a bewitching perfume but just not for me!!

A thermonuclear petrol oud bomb! One of the most potent scents I've ever come across. Yes, I detect some rose behind all of it but the petrol vibe is almost overpowering. Jury still out for me. Edit: ok, I'm hooked. This concoction somehow all comes together. Yes, that petrol vibe is still there but the oud and Rose seem to tame it enough. I put this in third behind Fidelis and Petroleum.

It smells like a combination of rose with agarwood, that sort of oud that smells like oil. But Rosam succed to put a big smile on my face, when I first smelled it. It is good, the smell of oil is not a problem on a man.It smells like a tough guy. Like Bruce Willis in Armageddon, as he worked hard with oil. And I like the way it projects, because it has power the way I need it.

Starts with a bang! The rose is in the air, dark petals, thick scent supported by saffron and incense. The notes of oud are luckily not overwhelming. Personally I am not a fan of oud, but in this it makes rose more present and persistent. It is def a unisex and will show all its beauty in cooler time of the year

A thin, icy thread of metallic saffron drawn through a thick & rosy oud. Petrol-pretty. Nothing crazy. Nicely done - interesting enough to keep your attention & have you flitting between opinions because of that ever-present oily film. I have a soft spot for Histoires & it does not disappoint.

this unfortunately, on me, smells of petrol and petrol only. My body chemistry seems to absorb everything else and gives off this smell like i have been hosed down with petrol at a filling station. not a like for me, luckily i got the 15ml bottle. Phew!

This potent and oily Rose stands on the shoulders of the oriental with his head in the industrial. I like it, but the true petrol vibes of Petroleum I love more. Anyway, it's a precious and valuable entry in HdP's impressive line. ****(*)

-Opens smelling reminiscent of whiskey. -Develops soon after into a rose scent. A dusty one. -Has a 'dry' vibe to it. -I picture a stern-looking individual wearing this. (Perhaps, a librarian?) -Not fbw. (-)

A gorgeous middle eastern style of rose that's well blended with some saffron which gives it more depth without becoming generic like other oud-rose perfumes, underrated gem from the brand. Good performance

this is my fav rose scent of all time. rose de taif is beautifully blend with oud. its a wonderful masterpiece IMO.

starts off with strong oud/incense with roses (duh) but strangely, there was a sweet vanilla scent underneath.
