This is Not a Blue Bottle 1.7

Testing This is Not a Blue Bottle 1.7 from an official Histoires de Parfums 2 ml sample. First impression review: I don’t know what to make of this scent! I like a lot how it smells, that’s a fact, but it’s a very strange combination of summertime/tropical leaning notes and winter/dark ones. It’s like two different perfumes in one! Which as far as versatility goes, it scores high for me because it could work most of the year, except hot&humid summer days. The base notes are very noticeable in the dry down and may make this unbearable during very hot summer days! The opening is tethering towards a beach, tropical fruity, floral, airy, scent, where notes like frangipani, coconut, rose and pink pepper are at the forefront. But after half an hour, all the dark ouds and leather take over the perfume and it transforms from a feminine floral one to a masculine oud/leather/vanilla forward. Which is interesting to see because most fragrances these days are very linear and flat! Therefore, This is Not a Blue Bottle 1.7 is a bit of mixed bag...this needs further testing to make my mind on it. The performance seems great, it’s strong, intense and is projecting nicely. I like it but not enough to buy a bottle as of yet. But it’s an intriguing one for sure... And I love the bottle design, the high contrast between the two vibrant colours it’s really appealing to me. Will update here after another try! Update 25.01.25 Gave the scent another try, full day wear, and really enjoyed wearing it. Is it my all time favourite perfume?? No, but I like it enough to get a small bottle if I can find on a good sale. It has something really addictive about how it smells, it’s unlike any of my fragrances, so it intrigues me and it’s strong and projects well! I am sold on This is Not a Blue Bottle 1.7.

I can’t quite figure this fragrance out—and that’s exactly why I can’t stop wearing it! It’s quirky and completely magnetic. My fragrance tastes are all over the map, but this unisex oddity is a pleasure to wear. At its core, 1.7 is a bold collision of synthetic plastic, raw coconut, leather, and musk—unexpected, a little weird, and somehow addictive. It shouldn’t work... but it absolutely does. This is the kind of scent that makes people lean in a little closer; it's interesting and subtly seductive. Longevity is great, 8+ hours of wear.

Big surprise! It reminds me of Mont de Narcisse (l'Artisan Parfumeur), which is beautiful but discontinued. Two hours later, it is more floral (yellow flower) and barely leathery compared with Mont de Narcisse if I remember correctly. I really like this one. Quelle surprise ! Update : I had only one spray on my skin. I need to test more. Unlike what can be smelt on the paper, the drydown on my skin has a more prominent synthetic sandalwood note, mhhhhh....

An Ozonic and floral Virgin Island Water. Very cool, but owning it is like... I’d use it twice a year when going to an open pool, or a beach

Nice one, very similar to Bortnikoff Ambre Cologne but more feminine leaning. Must be frangipani

Smells like super smooth coconut wrapped in some really smooth leather with a clean back note

On my skin this smelled like a hand soap. conventional hand soap. It is fresh & clean. performance is average & the projection is strong for the first 1/1.5 hours. It turned into a skin scent after 5/6 hours so acceptable. Good for summer & office use.

No, is this a new perfume? The melody feels so old-fashioned. It reminds me of a black and white movie actress with thin eyebrows and bob hair. Why did this come out recently? I scrubbed my wrists with soap after applying the perfume.

Ok, even tho it smells exactly like the summer cotton wunderbaum mixed with a little bit of gasoline/syntetic smell, or gas station soap.

It has the Rasquinet fixative overdose which, for me, ruins it from the get go. It's all I can smell. Norlimbanol maybe? It's noxious. That aside (as some love those bases and/or don't experience them as sinus-razing), what you have here is high-pitched, ultra-modern screeching/screaming aldehydes and white and tropical florals. On the right person I think this could be awesome. I don't normally feel that way about perfumes, as in it depends on the wearer, but I could only imagine a super hot, sporty, young club kid wearing this.

This could have been a great tropical summer perfume, however the leather is way too overpowering. When I sprayed it I was immediately hit with a strong coconut, followed by something that almost made me gag. It smelled like wet leather, and sure enough, after checking the notes, there is leather in the base notes. It did mellow out a tiny bit, but not enough. Maybe it's just the perfume reacting to my skin, but the leather combined with the tropical notes just makes everything smell like wet, hot garbage on a summer day.

This smells EXACTLY like that pink hand soap in every gas station bathroom. It’s not a bad smell, but it’s so spot on to that soap to me that I can’t wear it. Scrubber.

For me this smells like a good quality cheese.

I sort of understand where some of the below comments are coming from, but there actually isn’t even any leather in it. I actually think it’s a mixture of the lily of the valley and the musc that gives it that dirty soap smell to it. Tête: Baies Roses, Noix de Coco, Accord Ozonique Cœur : Rose, Muguet, Frangipanier Fond: Santal, Vanille, Musc Blanc I have to agree with the people talking about that generic public toilet handle wash smell, I get that and don’t really mind it, it’s sort of nostalgic. I don’t buy the marketing for this as “a beam of sunlight” though. I would say a beam of fluorescent light in a cold tiled bathroom. I bought CDG Marsielle at the same time and they give opposite ends of the soap spectrum, it also gives a less squeaky clean version on MM Bubble Bath.

Unfortunately, this brand has disappeared from the UK. It's used to be widely available both online and in store, but not anymore. I really hope things will change, and that they'll launch new exiting perfumes, because the quality of their scents is exquisite, especially for the price, which I always thought to be fair, unlike many(MANY) brands who rip-off their customers.

If you are up for anything fruity Tiziana Terenzi makes, but find TT just a bit too overwhelming, you should test this. It's along the lines of TT, but less obnoxious.

Ozonic florals with an icky cream-like base from the musk and sandalwood. Mediocre performance

i wish it was possible to smell any of those other notes beyond all that leather and oud.
