Vidi

Had a tester of this I got at the Paris shop and absolutely fell in love with it. Came back home to find it is virtually impossible to buy in the states. I wish the Juniper Sling comp was accurate for me, Vidi has that sharp synthetic edge that surrounds the marine-herbiness of Juniper, and is way way WAY stronger and the longevity is amazing. Juniper Sling literally smells like gin and shaving cream and is more of a body spray in performance (totally nice don't get me wrong!) But I don't know what it is about this one... reminds me of the smell of Pert Plus at a public pool shower as you rinse the chlorine out of your hair. Refreshing, not at all organic, somehow nostalgic? And yet I've worn my sample to very formal black tie stuff and found it perfectly buoys a formal occasion, it smells expensive and decadent on hot silk. Sure, it definitely is an acquired taste, and -- giant asterisk -- I am also a huge fan of ELDO's Ghost In The Shell which is like a sweeter sweatier version of this and I guess just as controversial. Lesson learned: next time I have any affinity for a niche scent while traveling I should probably just buy a bottle. Anyway since everyone seems to hate it, if anyone has a used bottle they want to sell me, hit me up! ;D

Veni Vidi and Vici by Histoires de Parfums are from their Edition Rare series which is quite expensive and only comes in one size - 60 Ml. There are less than 10 reviews here on fragrantica which are mostly unfavorable and Vidi has a meta score of about 3.15 out of 5 which is quite low. I want to represent a completely different point of view - I own all 3 of the aforementioned fragrances, Veni Vidi and Vici in full bottle form and can't get enough of them. For me all 3 are among the most underhyped fragrances around. Vidi itself features one of my favorite notes: Immortelle and a note I couldn't care less about - Cucumber which fits Vidi perfctly. I recommend trying a small decant of Vidi for yourself and deciding if you are Team Edward or Team Jacob on this one. For me personally Veni Vidi and Vici are huge favorites. If you are worried about the full bottle price - I totally get that but that's no reason to avoid sampling these as a small sample can last for a long long time. HDP offers most of their fragrances as samples but I haven't seen Veni Vidi and Vici offered in that capacity just yet.

Light, airy, spicy and very refreshing. Definitely unisex. Simply amazing good feel optimistic scent. Will review properly later after I have worn it several times. Update: I have worn my sample a few times now and have somewhat gone of it. I think it is the combination of cucumber, saffron and cardammon which makes it an interesting scent but at the same time makes me feel a bit queasy. The longevity or projection aren't great and it is a very expensive scent. Whilst originally I thought I would want to buy a full bottle, now I am pretty certain I shan't bother.

The spicy scent of burnt plastic flowers brings me an extraordinary sense of travel. It is suitable for a change of pace, which is pretty good for me.

Although I love heavy scents, i love this scent. I think this is a wonderfully carefree summer scent! Maybe it is synthetic but thank god fortunilaty it is not laden with Yasmin like a lot of summer scents. It is fresh free and........eh, 1 hour later it smells a bit like cleaningsoap but that is lukely a short time

Smells very similar to Penhaligon's Juniper Sling, except this has an extra cardamom hit. After say 30 mins, it's pretty much just a spicier more woody Juniper Sling. A keeper for me.

I was so disappointed by this fragrance! There was way too much ambroxan and Iso E Super, creating the illusion of an amber-musky-sweet base. But it smells so fake, and the abstract base drowned out all of those other gorgeous notes to where I couldn't enjoy the perfume much. It bothers me how frequently niche perfumers depend on those compounds to create the base upon which all the other notes are built because when too much is used it's so painfully obvious. Vidi smelled like a plastic cucumber with a heavy hand of saffron. Cardamom is truly just an opening note and fades rather quickly. It's an interesting concept--the coolness of cucumber contrasting with warm spices. I would have loved this if it wasn't for the ambroxan/Iso base.

where in Veni the use of some synthetique notes is in perfect harmony with the spices to create a comforting cocoon, Vidi shows a kind of unpleasant chaos who results in the smell of drying pickles coated with chocolate...from juicy to earthy, preserved in too much chemicals. Why?!!! You must pay people to wear that, isn't?

This is in the same family with Kenneth Cole Reaction, Paris Hilton for Men, Ralph Lauren Polo Blue. It even smells cheap like those scents. Heavy laundry musk and alcohol. My first scrubber from this house. I still love HdP tho!

Conceptually I like the idea of combining cucumber with spices and immortelle, but this is not working. Too much iso e super is dominating all the notes, making Vidi smell cheap.

Horrible.. I love this house, have 3 other perfumes by them. I normally would rather wear something I'm not crazy about than wear nothing at all.. I just love smells. I had to wash this off. I was on the train to work and felt self conscious wearing it, nauseated. It reminds me of something from my childhood back in the 80's, can't put my finger on it? Cheap shower gel, old spice, furniture polish, lynx deodorant, don't know? I find it synthetic, piercing, bright, crisp, cold metallic, aquatic. Everything I hate in smell perfectly composed in a bottle. It doesn't smell cheap, I just don't like it. Probably great after the gym, shower, on summer on 20 plus years old? It's probably good on the right person. Literally the first perfume I've rushed to wash off, and this stuff just won't come off. Not crazy about this one

Unfortunately, Histoires de Parfums Vidi opens with aquatic/ozonic notes and big blaring iso-E-super and then dries down to ambroxan. Basically everything which I would love in the composition--the saffron, the cardamom, the rose...--is completely clobbered by aromachemicals. Some people appear to find similarities between Vidi and Tocca Brigitte. I do not. The problem of aromachemical overkill reminds me of a similar problem with artificially flavored tea (which I avoid): the synthetic parts tend to be disproportionately potent and have impressive tenacity, much better than that of the natural components. The end result is unbalanced and inharmonious. Désolée. I came, I sniffed, I scrubbed.

The opening Is a wonderful combo of cardamom and something mildly refreshing. I thought it was pine but I realise it’s supposed to be cucumber according to the notes. I think most of the negative reviews seem to stem from the immortelle note surfacing in the mids, it’s slightly bitter and salty. Sure there are some synthetics used in this, but it’s not any different from other modern fragrances, so I don’t really see it as a negative. The drydown is a pretty generic musk, like many typical office friendly scents out there. I wish the opening lasted longer. I think for those who enjoy cardamom (like me), you will enjoy wearing this.

I have tried a lot of Histories de Parfums so I wanted to try Vidi. It is a pleasant spring summer time fragrance. In the beginning I am getting an almost citrus smell from the combination of notes. Wore it for a few hours. Fairly feminine. Nothing to write home about.

Leans feminine rather than unisex. It's a blend of contradicting notes that don't really go anywhere, at least not for me. It's pretty linear and I'm not sure I'd call this safe. I mainly get safron and cardamon. The HdP DNA is evident here.
