H&M Makassar Patchouli

This one is the best of the HM line, however it is also the most niche parfum HM has to offer. To me it smells woody, dark and almost INK like, but in a good cozy way. Patchouli is definitely there. It is potent, leaves a fair trace of silage also. Could be unisex, but is slightly leaning towards mens, however I could see woman wearing this in the evening also. Not a crowd pleaser, more of a sophisticated and if I may say"dark" fragrance. I have it in my drawer as I could not resist to buy it as it is so much different from anything else I own. Surprisingly it reminds me of Gucci PH1 and Even Dirty Eglish, albeit sweetness removed. It is a dark, exceptionally well made, potent fragrance that could work very well in the winter. Potency 10/10 Silage 9/10 PS. In my opinion this could mix/layer well with some OUD based sweeter scents. If you have a sweet OUD frag, layering this with it could produce interesting results.

I first got the oil version of this, but since I loved it so much I had to get the real deal as well. Starts off very dry and woody, like an old library in an oak forest haha. Then proceeds to sweeten as it blends in with the warmth of your skin, obviously patchouli and vanilla, but also a dreamy floral scent in there, I smell a white floral. Lovely for this price and lasts a very long time (could still detect it close to my skin the morning after!!) Bought a few as gifts as well, as this seems very easy to love. Please give this a try if you love patchouli!

My Review is for perfume oil, I get dry sweet patchouli. Vanilla is very prominent in the opening, lavender in the dry down. I'm very happy with this blind buy!

unreal how good this line is. i've been using mine so sparingly, seriously so sad that they're discontinued.. if you can still find some- definitely buy

This smells a lot like Amber of Yemen from El Nabil! (which is our of stock everywhere). I blind bought it. Happy I did!

MAKASSAR PATCHOULI; Don't let the opening fool you! Starts sharp and awful but what comes next makes it one of my favorites atm. I thought it would be more masculine judging by the notes. After an hour a lot of sweetness and warmth emerges with the blooming of vanilla and woods. Contrary to the votes I do not find the amber very prominent at all! Not a huge fan of lavender, but ut works beautiful here. I also love that the sillage seems to increase once all the goodness sets in. So, so beautiful! BLACK PAPYRUS; Love the name of the scent and I love the scent as well! I think many will find it leaning masculine, but as a woman I don't mind wearing this at all. It's woody first and foremost, the oud is quite noticable in the opening as well, but it's not huge and dominating. I love labdanum and patchouli and they're both prominent notes, so Black Papyrus is probably not a safe blind-buy if you dislike any of the two. The vanilla is not abundant, but emerges in the dry-down. VANILLA MALAGASY; A bit of a let down for me. I knew it might be though. The peach note so dominant. If you like Grojsman peach you'll probably love this. It is nice and I like it, but far from a love. Can't say I've noticed the praline or plum, all peach and vanilla to my nose.

I hade to actually knock over my bottle and have my trashcan + apartment reek of this for days to get into it more, but over those days I became fairly enchanted. It's pretty powdery, I definitely got violet and it really goes, uhm, "fancy chypre dry patchouli", more than the vanilla I first got hung up on. In a way that made me finally kinda appreciate that note/accord. (Also impressive: perfume-skeptic friend said it smelled "fancy" in here, but she said it in an appreciative way for once.) Not repurchasing, but it was surely the cheapest way I could've ever gotten that perfume lesson, so thanks H&M.

Sprayed a little more heavily, this reminds me a bit of Lapsang Souchong tea. It is both dark and refreshing, with a deep, smoky and herbal quality. On a lighter application you get more of the sweetness, imo. There's an eucalyptus vibe as well, like in a steam room.

A very pleasant floriental perfume. Could be used as a unisex perfume, not overtly maskuline or feminine. Happy to have this addition to my collection.

Makassar is strong, pure patchouly scent. If You like patchouly oil, You will enjoy this gem pretty much!

This one is very strong and intense. Strong sillage. Not for the faint of heart! In my opinion kind of old fashion, or classic perfume. Maybe more suitable for men?

I was a bit hesitant to buy this perfume because I had an idea that it would be too masculine (I can do masculine but not MASCULINE!). Fast forward to a couple of weeks ago when I spotted it on sale - and we all know what that means, don't we? So I grabbed nothing less than two bottles (it was half price, so why not, right?) and guess what.... I'm SO glad I did! This is a BEAUTIFUL patchouli the way I know it (I work a lot with essential oils at work) and this is straight up the essential oil kind of patchouli that I love so much. It's earthy, dry and extremely calming to be around and soon the vanilla comes through and softens up the dryness with its sweetness. And then it stays there and lingers with all its mysterious beauty! An absolute stunner in every way! There's really not much more to be said. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful! Oh and yea. The price is absolutely ridiculous - A different brand could've easily charged 5x the pre-sale price

This is a powdery patchouli fragrance. The powderyness, I feel makes the rather dirty patchouli more clean smelling. I think this scent is very interesting and pleasant. It does give you an olfactoy illusion of smelling very powdery clean from a far. When you put your nose close to where you sprayen the perfume however it smells kind of mentholy. It does remind me of Tom Fords white Patchouli. BLACK PAPYRUS review: I happen to own PLUM JAPONAIS (PJ) by Tom Ford and I have smelt the previous version of L’AUTRE OUD (LAO) by LANCOME. Black papyrus has, in my opinion the opening of PJ and the drydown of LAO. In other words: the opening is very intensely oudy (two sprays are challenging for me). In the drydown however it smells like a clean, slightly aromatic oud just like LAO. All in all I think that if you like oud fragrances there are good chances you will like this one.

I've never been a patchouli fan and was hesitant about trying this one. It turns out it's one of my favourites. It opens with a bit of a retro patchouli scent that quickly softens into a slightly powdery beautifully balanced woody scent. It must be some of the floral notes that take the edge off though I can't detect much lavender. This will be a great autumn winter scent.

Hippie patchouli oil....in the beginning!! Then the other notes mix in and that initial "blast" subdues into a lovely bohemian type skin scent.I get the lavender a lot in the drydown,and the patchouli reminds me that it's still there wafting around....Think Molinard Patchouli with lavender...and the other notes toning it waaaaaay down...???... Instant ....LOVE !!!

Has anyone had the chance to sample the other 2 "online-only" releases from this collection? BLACK PAPYRUS and VANILLE MALAGASY edit: I just got the 2 online-only today--a few hours ago. So far, Black Papyrus is the clear winner. Wow! Very much like a dryer version of TF Noir de Noir or DSquared Potion Royal Black. And it smells amazing.

Amazing beautiful fragrance! Warm, sweet vanilla patchouli. Just delicious and on my skin a decent silage and long lasting. The opening is a bit strange dry and a bit medicinal but wait for the dry down where this one becomes such a nice sweet comforting patchouli. Good price too!

If I sniffed this blind and you told me after this was from h and m I would have never believed it . I have had patchouli from niche houses and mainstream that smell mediocre in comparison to this.This is a great patchouli fragrance! 5 stars from me !
