Ambre Rubis

Ambre Rubis is a delightful, sexy maraschino cherry scent that is pure perfection from first spray to dry-down. Its masterful, high-quality blend of fruit, booze, and grounding woods has a narcotic quality that simply makes me happy. I'd wear it any time of year, though it can be intensely rich for the hottest days. After its initial burst, it wears primarily as a skin scent unless you go heavy on the trigger. This was such a pleasant surprise. A friend sent this to me as a surprise to test out as they knew I liked cherry notes and this did not disappoint. It is a lovely wintery cherry fragrance and the fact it has a rum note and no vanilla make it stand out from other cherry fragrances I own. The longevity isn't amazing but it does the job and if I like a fragrance I don't mind topping it up. I really like this and will look forward to wearing it over the winter.

Le parfum est tres beau , accord de cerise avec fruit rouge et poivre rose , on ne sens pas vraiment le rhum , c'est comme une cerise confite ou liquoreuse. L'odeur est magnifique , le sillage est léger mais de toute beautée ... La tenue sur habit est acceptable et la projection moyenne. Parfum tres sensuel , à porter bien habillé et pour une sortie ou une occasion. Totalement mixte

At first spray it’s a delicious grown up and juicy red cherry. Not young or girly. This is what I wanted Sirené by fragrance du bois to be. Ended up selling that one as It was just underwhelming. The cherry in Ambre Rubis seems to linger through the mid and dry down which I love. Not solely feminine. Wonderful for the autumn and winter. Can’t wait to give it a full wear.

Beautiful fragrance! Cherry, syrupy (in a good way), ambergris is prominent but slighlty toned down with rum note. I will check aura and longevity and return to edit my comment. But for now- beautiful. Edit: longevity around 9 hours with strong aura which fades to skin sent after 7. Do not overspray.

Was watching extraitderayens video about this and it really intrigued me. I am a sucker for cherry and rum fragrances, and this has both! I had to quickly order a sample, and this is FANTASTIC! Its forsure full bottle worth. The price tag can scare some people though.

When you buy this fragrance you get 3 fragrances cuz it keeps changing every minute but my favorite is the drydown thats when to me its a ambery boozy cherry scent thats so unique i havent smelt anything like it at all. 9.4/10

Fantastic perfume. Blowed my mind away when I first smelled it. It has a strong and realistic cherry opening that evolves into an ambergris/cognac smell thats amazing and transmites quality. 10/10, trully recomend it

The cherry involved in this is sweet but adult, it’s not smokey or woody but ambery and boozy. It’s dark and juicy, gladly present during all the stages of the scent. Fabulous discovery. Feminine leaning.

A wonderful perfume for winter or autumn weather in which amber rather than cherry stands out. Anyway, it is great, as well as the other fragrances from this very successful collection in prefect bottles.

Wow.its so good!! so delicious!sweet juicy, yummy I know there are lots of perfumes with cherry notes, but this one won me :-) actually all 3 of them are worth to try!! Just love it!

Doesn’t look like any other cherry fragrance it’s unique and super elegant. The notes that are more powerful are cherry and rum 🤍

Sweet cherry with amber and rum can’t get enough of it, gonna gate keep this one for sure

The cherry accord off the top in the opening is brilliant. Rum soaked, with added zing from red berries and pink pepper notes. I did get the same weird "blue cheese" smell that I got in Xerjoff More Than Words, but just like the Xerjoff, only in the first minute or so and only at the point of a heavy application on the wrists. It's not dissimilar to More Than Words, but diverges fairly substantially. A bit lighter and not as weighed down as the darker, heavier oud, resins, and dried fruits of More Than Words. The brilliant red cherry accord in Rubis is above and beyond the 'fruity notes' of the Xerjoff, but don't we all wish that brilliant, rum soaked cherry persisted at near the same intensity beyond the opening? After the initial cherry starburst, Ambre Rubis wears essentially as a skin scent. It's performance isn't as strong as More Than Words. The Amber accord in Rubis isn't really accounted for in the listed notes on this page, and is certainly not due to ambergris. The florals are subdued and merely contributory. All in all, a very nice Amber Gourmand scent with the brilliant cherry opening

This is a pretty well done scent. Opens up sweet, mostly with the red berries and quickly transitions to a delicious mixture of cherry, rum, and light jasmine in the mid. Sweet, cedar woodsy, ambery dry down that adds a masculine touch to it. I like how it doesn't have an overly feminine vibe to it, no powder or anything, which makes it more wearable for men than other cherry scents. I wish there was a bit more incense throughout, which would have made it perfect for me. Not an instant love, but I'll give it some time to see if it grows on me.

Inside the bottle and on first spray its a dark syrupy cherry with sharp woody notes, but after letting it sit on my skin for a while the scent fades and it starts to smell more subtle and smokey like christmas candle that has just been blown out after burning for a few hours 🕯️🕯️🕯️I disliked this scent at first when it was strong and freshly sprayed but the drydown is lovely.

I highly recommend grabbing this fragrance male or female! It’s rare to find a cherry fragrance that doesn’t smell medical or like cough syrup!

Layer with Bois Imperial. You can thank me later.

Cherry is one of my favourite notes, but this isn’t one I’d choose to buy. Ambre Rubis has quite a harsh, dry opening. It’s heavy on the ambergris, which overpowers the cherry. This scent is in the realm of Narcotic delight and Elan Noir. although it’s not as good as either of those. This is a dry, ambergris cherry. I don’t find this sweet at all. Not what I was expecting. It’s just ok. I will say this smells nothing like French Defence, which is a light, violet, floral cherry which smells like no other. If you’re looking for a sweet cherry that smells like cherry, this isn’t for you. Instead look at Lost Cherry, Cherry on Top, Venom of Love or Vicebomb. For a tart cherry look at Duchessa or Bodacious. If you like the deep, dark, night time type of cherry scents like Elan Noir or Narcotic Delight, you will enjoy this.

When you read raving reviews and recomendations, your expectations are high. Once more, I was disappointed. It's an ok perfume, no I wouldn't buy it, its not ground breaking, its not unusual, its not even new.

TLDR smell and performance are a thumbs down. I must not care for cherry fragrances because I am ambivalent about this one at best. I am experiencing mostly a leathery cherry as well as animal. Presumably the leather accord has something to do with the animal notes. There is also a little something green in here, like rose stems. Fruit, amber. On paper it should be a knock out. In practice meh. Performance for me from this house is spotty at best. There are a couple of stand outs, this is it one of them. At its most fierce this is one step above a skin scent. Once past the opening I am getting a mild cherry, which is inoffensive, isn’t that a resounding endorsement? lol. Nose to skin the animal aspect enters the chat further detracting from an already middling experience. Back to the drawing board ladies and gentlemen.

I was disappointed by both sillage and longevity. In this price range, where they only offer is currently large 100ml bottles for almost 180 Euros, I would expect that you wouldn't have to pour yourself with perfume to still smell it after two hours. The opening is a nice rum-cherry accord, but for my taste it's already beyond the edge of sweetness and stickiness, although only by a bit. Pink cotton candy peeks out at me and if cherry and rum are considered the body of the perfume, then here it only works as a head for me, within 15 minutes in cold weather on my skin it's gone and something sweet, delicately floral lot powdery and skin only remains within 90 minutes. Weak. Try Imaginary Authors - A little secret instead.

I am rating this as "ok" because I am on the fence about the scent... I love a good cherry scent but this smells too sweet and artificial in the opening. Gave me a headache. What follows after though is more red berries than cherry, more sour and there is a faint whisper of incense. I like this but dislike the opening. I will let my decant sit and see what I make of it later. Update: the amber in the dry down smells synthetic and VERY irritating. Changing my rating to "dislike".

Definitely a fan of the brand, but this one was a miss for me...right off the bat, i was hit with a very synthetic cherry/floral accord that was quite off-putting...it didn’t cause a headache, but I felt if it was worn for any length of time, it would...Houbigant isn’t very typically overly synthetic, so I was caught off guard...fortunately, they produce many other bangers to chose from

Sadly on my skin the red berries , cherries, and florals were all overpowered by the oud and incense and barely there. I would have preferred it the other way around. I am not familiar enough with houbigant's other masculine leaning fragrances to know if this is typical, but I was disappointed

Not new, but doesn't make it any less better than the best. One of my favourite cherry fragrances in the market. The only other i wear the most is Guerlain l'homme ideal edp. Starts off as a powdery candy/lollipop like cherry, which fades into something ambery and warm like initio narcotic delight/ side effect. It won't blow your mind, but you'll thoroughly enjoy it. I like the layers and the fact that it is a simple fragrance yet has complex layers. Longevity is a solid 9/10. I can still smell the powdery base the next day on my hand after 2 showers. Projection is perfect for the kind of scent. A rough 6.5or7 /10 You wouldn't want this one to scream. The scent bubble is surely there, but it's not a room filler. According to me, it's perfect. And as for scent, I'd give it an 8. Pretty good.

With the incense note listed, the initial brightness threw me off a bit, but it is a pleasant, sweet cherry scent. It has a airyness to it, making it feel a little lighter and not too syrup like. Its a great quality fragrance. For my own taste, I would like a slightly darker, spicier more resinous type of approach. But this is very nice. If you like Cherry, it is going to do well for you. Pretty unisex, might lean slightly feminine but guys can definitely pull it off.

the start gives you unfounded hopes. there's cherry lollipop with hints of ambery depths. ambery depths turn to ambery shallows and you're left with a lollipop cherry sometimes soap sometimes talcum powder. Is it awful? no. is it unique? no. is it worth the price? no. is it a nice light feminine powdery slightly more elevated feminine scent? sure.

Ambre Rubis, by Houbigant, smells like the sweetest and the most delicious cherry liquor. When it dries down, the scent gets woody.

One of my nice lady coworker wear this. Am I the only one Who think this could be the female version of Bleu de Chanel??
