Personally, I think this perfume number is definitely 9l5 out of 10 ............................................................................... Bois Mystique by Houbigant is a fragrance that whispers of ancient forests, hidden temples, and the enigmatic allure of the unknown. It is a scent that feels timeless, rooted in tradition, yet carries a sense of mystery and modernity, like a story passed down through generations but retold with fresh eyes. Olfactory Profile From the very first spray, Bois Mystique opens with a spicy-citrus burst, a lively combination of bergamot, pink pepper, and coriander that dances across the skin like the first light of dawn breaking through a dense forest canopy. Ok fellows, I received it yesterday but tried it today just few minutes ago (two sprays on my back wrist). First impressions: like it happened to me with Fougère Royale, there's nothing really "new" or "original" here. What I'm again very impressed with is about its QUALITY (including the outstanding bottle & cap!). It smells anything but chemical or artificial. It shares a similar DNA with Fougère Royale (fresh, clean, classy, versatile), but with a touch of woodiness and spiciness to it that makes it even more versatile in Fall and Winter. It also smells modern but very classy and with a touch of old school all together, what I personally love. Very well blended. Very very natural smelling and pleasing indeed. It seems more to be a skin scent rather than a projection monster (what a pity!), and still have to test its durability, but whatever that may be, at least for now and at first sniff I can say that I absolutely love this stuff! EDIT 1: As it starts drying down after 30 min, the scent turns a bit less "airy" and more "dense" and sweeter, making it even better! The bad thing here is that, at least for now, I feel it weakens in short time. Let's wait for couple of hours and see... EDIT 2: After 8 h I can still smell it on my skin and I presume that it will last some hours more, but always as a skin scent. The smell is very linear, I can't notice any drastic evolution, but it's very very veeeeery good. Yes it gradually loses part of its freshness to become sweeter, amberier and woodier (not cloying though, but very natural). I really love it. However and like I've already said, I'd have liked it to project more since the beginning. EDIT 3: After 12 h and after a shower, there's still a very subtle vibe on my back wrist, veeery weak though, but still there! Definitely this one is a skin scent from the beginning to the end (obviously getting weaker as time goes), it's not a projection monster like I said. So it does not project much, but it does really last! And the scent itself is mmmmmmmmm, simply delicious! I'd even say it's a very safe scent, I can't see anyone disliking this jewel! Bois Mystique is not about originality, it's all about QUALITY. EDIT 4: I've fallen in love with this beauty, because of its interior as of its exterior too. It's simply perfect! Well, it would be if it had more power with regards to projection, but at least I can live with its tremendous duration. A 10/10 one. Should it have had more power, then I'd have given to it a solid 12/10 Cum Laude.

Bois Mystique by Houbigant Paris A signature scent is your way of leaving a mark everywhere you go, a way for people to remember you associated with how you smell, a signature scent speaks for you before you do... Bois Mistyque can be that for you, let's deep dive. The Scent A fresh opening of cardamom over a spicy bed of fresh ginger & pink pepper with a distant ultra clean neroli that dances in cinnamon. It smells French, airy, detectable without overwhelming your senses, well mixed. The opening is airy and romantic and on my skin the cedar shows it's face rather fast with a resinou-sweet-adjacent myrrh. As it dries, that cedar plays the piano as the cipryol and incense provide the strings, the pepper is present...this time turning to black pepper which gives a great backbone and makes the whole scent stand out. A bright citrus keeps the fragrance... sparkly. The drydown can be described with 4 words: cedar+semisweet+incense+pepper and in there lies the beauty here, this doesn't try to act classy to fit in, this fits in by being itself. Compares to... This reminds me of Royal Oud by Creed, a fragrance I adore, on skin? I prefer this one as it has more facets to discover. The Challenge My only challenge is performance, stays close to skin after 2 hours and lasts a little under 5 hours before you have to search for it. Houbigant makes this on Extrait concentration and that could be the solution! Conclusion That ultra clean incensy-citrus-woody-cedar is an accord I am passionate about and one that immediately yells Signature Scent to me... Why? Because I would love to be remembered by this smell. I love this.

I've been neglecting my Fragrantica duties recently in favour of pathetic social media platforms so it's about time I reviewed something on here and got my mojo back, so to speak. What a way to do it too with a new(ish) fragrance from a brand I really love. I was so excited about Bois Mystique but I also try to manage expectations when it's something so highly anticipated. Well...I've not been disappointed because this is a solid release and somewhat close to what I expected. It's a take on your frankincense and myrrh. Peppery, oily incense and woods but with a touch of a deeper, darker hue. This is a category of fragrance that has many proponents and could perhaps be difficult to stand out, but Houbigant manage it. It has the sweet sharp opulence of labdanum with a touch of smoke (perhaps from guaiac wood?) it's lovely. It didn't blow my socks off but I'm very much enjoying it and the bit I spritzed on my arm the other day lasted really well, and so far so good today. I would categorise this in a want list with some others like Bruno Fazzolari Lampblack which in fairness is a little more flamboyant and original than this. Also LM Parfums Malefic Tattoo which is suitably fantastic as well, I have that trio on my radar and would say they are equally brilliant perfumes. (I AM NOT AN 'INFLUENCER' OR AFFILIATE OF THE BRAND) Houbigant's customer service is fantastic too, having no quibbles about sending me a discovery set, facilitating trying, before inevitably buying. Sadly they forgot to include this sample so I bought one, still I really appreciate the gesture of all their other samples.

I will preface this review stating that Creed Royal Oud is my signature scent. Dare I state that Bois Mystique smells better? Its a little brighter with the bergamot and has more musk in it. Similar to fougere Royale, it smells incredible, arguably the best smelling fougere on the market, but it just doesn't perform. These are what I refer to as gentlemen scents. They do not project much as to not offend others. They do however put you in a slight scent bubble. BM projects well for the forst hour or so if you overspray, but I like to keep the perfumer's intention of keeping it close to the skin. If I got 12 hours out of this and a 4' projection throughout, this would be a perfect 10. It does not though so I will go with the same as Royal Oud... 9.5/10 I will wear this in all seasons and I have already ordered a full bottle. For $100, one would be a fool not to. Houbigant is an excellent house. All three of the ones I own are 9+. Duc de Vervins L'Extreme is the other one I own and its a 12hr performing fougere with a minimal 3 sprays. I need to try some more from this house. They are tied with Essential Parfums as my favorite niche houses for value. Nothing that I have triwd is over $1/ml and its top quality!

Stunning Fragrance ! Elegant, Classy, Woody, Spicy, Rich, Airy, Modern, Mysterious and Complex. Houbigant House is very old in Perfumery with High Quality and Well-blended Composition. Bois Mystique is a Highly Addictive Scent and I fell in love with it at first sniff, The Incense note is Truly Magical from the opening up to the dry down. I tried it in store and I received a sample of that last week then I bought it yesterday. I really enjoy it and I'm so happy that I have it in my collection. It opens up with slightly smoky fresh spicy, floral and spices notes in the background then dry down is semi sweet warm spicy, balsamic resinous, ambery and woody. The Incense , Cardamom, Myrhh and Cedar notes are dominant in this perfume. The Art of bottle design is very Luxurious Similar to Precious Crystal. Longevity is good. Now Bois Mystique is one of my favorite Top Ten . Highly Recommended. Two Thumbs Up. Bravo Monsieur Luca Maffei ! Rating : 9.5 / 10

✓Woody ✓Semi sweet ✓Musky ✓Fresh ✓Masculine ✓Classy Beautiful blend of wood and fresh spice with a little of incense. It opens up fresh citrusy with a little of ginger in the background and not that sweet, afterwards it start to become a semi sweet woody smell blended with some exotic spices, the dry dawn is the most beautiful thing in this scent, it's woody but not that harsh and fresh which make it super versatile and classy. The problem! This scent does not last long, it last only two hours on my t-shirt; so disappointed. If you love this scent do not get EAU DE PARFUM version instead get the EXTRAIT DE PARFUM one I have tried it and its way much better and it last 6-7 hours easily. Update (5/30/2019) It has the same character of French Lover from FM, but this one has cardmom which makes it more warm and better as a night scent. Overall EAU DE PARFUM version is 7.5/10 EXTRAIT DE PARFUM version is 9/10 All The Best.

Incense, woods, spices, resins and some greenery. A simply beautiful work by Luca Maffei, probably one of the stars of the new generation of perfumers. Not unique or original as it stands on the same shelf with CdG Hinoki, CdG 2 Man, CdG Wonderoud, Creed Royal Oud, Kenzo Jungle Homme, FM French Lover, AC Emeraude Agar and several others, and arrives probably a bit late to the party. That said, it’s not identical to any I listed, and it’s possibly the most elegant and fine tuned take of all of these. Performance is below average, but stronger projection could become cloying, and it might thus be advisable to keep it soft to ensure a refined experience. The full retail price is not cheap, but afterall it’s a quite similar (or possibly lower) price/ml compared to others of similar quality, and can sometimes be spotted at discounters. Full bottle worthy for addicts of woody incense frags. Colder days, 30+

Well I don't think the ingredients smell more natural than Creed's Royal Oud, but Bois Mystique is very good, similar to the Creed, but offers a bit of a difference. The smokey incense, cypriol oil and slightly camphorous opening of Bois Mystique contrasts with Royal Oud's dryness and the rooty and earthy influence of its angelica and galbanum. Both paint a picture of golden, regal opulence. The Creed lasts longer, but the Houbigant is more appropriately named. Bois Mystique is the perfect name whereas the Creed should have been named Bois Royale. So there, ha. Bois Mystique is also similar to French Lover by Frederic Malle. But Bois Mystique would be my second favorite Houbigant (although Duc de Vervins puts up a strong challenge) behind Fougere Royale (2010), and Royal Oud would be my second favorite Creed, behind Bois du Portugal. What can I say, Fougeres reign supreme in my book.

It is an amazingly unique, good, well blended, addictive scent. I consider it one of these gentleman's masterpieces. It has a very strong classic and classy vibe. I have both the EDP and Extrait. None are super strong in a ultra niche definition of the terms. The thing to understand with this type of scent, what i call "gentleman scents", is that they are not meant to be overpowering and they seem faint to the ones like me who collect high end niche fragrances with sometimes/ often super strong projections and longevity. This one has great longevity btw and good projections but it is more like a powdery mist around you. It is one of the rare ones that also gets my wife's attention. Now, the Extrait is super expensive, at around $600.

A deep, woody, spicy, resinous fragrance that is serious, grown up and sophisticated. There is a slight medicinal effect in the opening, redolent of oud (or its synthetic equivalent), but that gives way to a rich woodsy, aromatic, incense that remains. Admittedly, performance is on the meek side. Longevity is good but the scent doesn’t radiate much beyond one’s personal space, even with 6-7 sprays. It is a perfect fragrance when you would like something deep and sophisticated but discreet. Certainly one needs a fragrance like this- for situations when candor and discretion might be preferable to bombast. With Bois Mystique, Houbigant retains its premium position of providing quality, reserved gentlemen’s fragrances.

Bois Mystique presents itself as a rich, woody fragrance with a distinctive modern facet. This Fragrance combines the freshness of the woods with a powerful spicy note. Top notes reveal a fresh, citrus and spicy accord with Bergamot, Artemisia and Ginger. In the heart, Cypriol and incense reveal the mystical facet of the perfume. Base notes with amber and woody notes add elegance to this character fragrance. It has some obvious similarities with Royal Oud by Creed which has better performances but I prefer this one over Royal Oud because there is no harshness in the opening due to the medicinal oud used by creed and you can wear it all year long whatever the season. Thumbs up!

I wanted to try this because of the comparisons to Royal Oud, but I was surprised to find it resembles 3 bona-fide masterpieces in my book. On my skin, the opening smells very similar to Oud Wood by Tom Ford. The heart is similar to Royal Oud by Creed. The drydown is that distinctive creamy, musky cedarwood from Creed Spice and Wood/ Histoires-de-Parfums 1828. If I did not already own these fragrances, I would buy this in a heartbeat. Does not smell like a cheaply made clone of these fragrances that I've mentioned either, quality is great. Tremendous value! Longevity is about 5 hours before needing a refresh. Scent 9/10 Performance 5/10

This is a fine fragrance. Beautifully crafted and blended to perfection. The opening encapsulates a warm and toasty feeling, like being close to a bonfire, with smoke, spices and woods. The Iris here just circulates throughout the entire background inoffensively adding depth and softness to the entire composition. Towards the dry down of this fragrance, to my nose, it really resembles Royal Oud. But instead of Sandalwood, you get Guaic wood. Simply fantastic.

Sophisticated, woody-spicy, warm and refined. On my skin it's mainly incense and warm woods with a resinous background; elegant, refined, slightly powdery and very woody. A nice balance between woods and spices without going over the top. Decent performance on my skin, but projection is more of a subtle scent bubble. Definitely not loud, more like "quiet" luxury. I've had Bois Mystique for a couple of years now, and it definitely gets better with time. 👍👍👍👍

A very sophisticated and gentle fragrance. Should be on your radar if you're looking for a "man's" fragrance that won't break the bank. It will set you apart and is non-offensive. Pepper, woods, and spice...... but doesn't slap you in the face. It's fairly linear and get between 6-8 hours of longevity. Like others have said below, very reminiscent of Creed's Royal Oud. Not an exact clone...but close. Cheers!

I get the Royal Oud comparisons & relations, but I'll take this over the Creed absolutely any day of the week. Warm, spicy, a little resinous & as the name implies, very woodsy. Stunning & gorgeous, definitely full bottle worthy (imo) and even though I don't subscribe to the whole Signature Scent thing, if you do & you enjoy what I described, I could see this being a SS for you.

Fantastic dry, woody and spicy fragrance. They are not twins, but It's definetly in the same ballpark as Creeds Royal Oud and If you are a fan of that fragrance, chances are good that you will love Bois Mystique. Personally i think they are different enough for fans of the genre to have both in their collection (I do).

I consider this a very elegant skin scent. Compared to Royal Oud, although this one is more multidimensional, to be fair RO takes the cake for better performance. Maybe the extrait version addresses the issue but the price tag is so steep that for many (including myself) probably will not worth the risk.

I'm a big fan of Royal Oud, and this satisfies that itch. It certainly isn't a dupe, and for the price, you can't beat it. An absolutely wonderful wear if you are a fan of cedar, and the musky dry down might be better than Royal Oud. For under 100 usd it's hard to beat this fragrance.

Prefer this over royal oud which it gets compared to. Royal oud feels too linear and less complex in comparison. I was worried that bois contained vanilla and was going to be another amber overload but it’s not. It’s done just in the right tiny amount. Bit pricy tough.

Amazing scent profile. Very much a blend of Creed Royal Oud and Gucci Pour Homme I. Or, Royal Oud with the pink pepper cranked up to eleven. Regal, refined, classicly masculine fragrance. Only knock is that sadly it does appear to have poor longevity.

Classy masterpiece. As others have said, very close to Royal oud. I love Royal oud and Royal Oud may be a tad more versatile. But Bois Mystique is a deeper fragrance to me. I am shooting for the Extrait version next. Beautiful fragrance! 8.8/10

Warm, rich, complex, timeless. To me this is very much a >sibling< ( not an identical twin) to Dominique Ropion's Costume National Homme Parfum and CN Soul - actually I'm surprised to be the first one to mention that. Love all three of them : )

Now this is what a fragrance enthusiast wants ! A classy woody spicy resinous scent that opens with some power and delivers a stunning non linear dry down. I am impressed

Basically a slightly darker version of Creeds Royal Oud mixed with 1/4th of Spice & Wood. Very solid allrounder. Great masculine fragrance.

Beautiful deep reach scent similar to RO in some way Mix it with Tobacco Vanille and you’ll get beautiful surprise

There is no oud in this whatsoever. How does it get compared so much to Royal Oud? It is its own masterpiece.

I snagged a decant of this and love it. But it doesn't stick around long. It'll get you out the door and to your event, but it was gone totally in 4 hours. It's a weaker and far less Middle Eastern version of a Robert Piguet fragrance, but a good combination of incense, cardamon, ginger and cinnamon. It was strong enough at the outset that I thought it would go on for at least 6 hours, but that didn't happen. It really is a masculine scent. The top notes, which I only really smelled while sniffing the nozzle, before actually spraying it, are really too masculine for most women. I think it was the neroli which really did it. It made it smell like a traditional, very masculine scent from the 1960's or earlier. But once I sprayed it I didn't smell the neroli at all. But many people never spray a bottle if it doesn't smell good enough at the nozzle. So anyway I doubt that most women will wear this. But then I'm not most women.

I can see why this has been voted as similar to Royal Oud, they have a quite similar cedar note in their base and they open with a blast of that and a spicy citrus and pepper. As they dry though the great use of galbanum in Royal Oud is absent here so they start to differ quite a bit as the cypriol comes more into play in Bois Mystique giving it a cooler green and dry inky quality vs the more "yellow" mild sweetness of Royal Oud. The further Bois Mystique dries it changes as you start to get a light musky iris and amber notes (there might be a touch of myrrh but its not too obvious). Pretty good, I do prefer Royal Oud overall for scent but longevity wise Bois Mystique smashes it.

I could try this fragance thanks to a samples set from houbigant that i have recived with my last purchase in a perfume shop. This one of the fragances that i have liked the less. It has a good quality as most of houbigants bit ir is too classic and lineal for me. It is a fresh Woody perfume that, even when i can feel the high quality, i think i wouldnt feel confidence wearing It. I bought this after purchasing Fougere Royale some months ago. Liked that so much i wanted to get some more Houbigant in my fragrance wardrobe. Bois Mystique is similarly a classic and sophisticated masculine fragrance, It starts off spicy, with pepper to the fore and I also get some ginger which keeps it fresh. Then the cedar and subtle incense kicks with the iris on the dry down which is warm and subtle. This is a keeper and feels like a fragrance for day or night and all seasons.

This is quite nice. To me it smells like a three way mix between Avignon, Royal Oud and Oud Wood. Starts off with fresh and bitter spices, becomes more earthy in the base and ends woody and resinous with some slight sweetness from the myrr and amber. Sadly projection is very low, it does stay on skin for 10+ hours but it's wearable for all seasons. I'd recommend this if you're a fan of woody/churchy fragrances and don't want beast mode projection.

Smells great, but recently realized it’s basically a carbon copy of Royal Water. Very disappointed in Houbigant due to this.. it’s not like it was a random under the radar fragrance that it ended up being accidentally copied, it’s like genuinely a dupe worthy type similarity of a very well known fragrance. Not familiar to my nose up until recently, but it was just a matter of time for me to put it together myself..

Dry, woody. Something almost moss-like in the opening which I am not crazy about, but it does give way eventually to something a bit more aromatic and fougere like. The quality is very good. This is an everyday type of gentleman's fragrance. Classic work type of vibe. Smells old school but not entirely dated. Like but not a love. But I definitely see the appeal. Would definitely pick up on a good discount though

I guess it gets in the Creed Royal Oud realm but I don't find them to be that close. This opens peppery, warm and spicy sweet with cinnamon. Then it is amber resinous woods and smoky incense dominant. It's very dense. It's nice and smells expensive but I prefer Royal Oud's bright airy citrus and crisp woods. Royal Oud has a sparkle to it that is nowhere to be found in Bois Mystique.

Starts out very smokey, gingery and with a good dose of cedar. Even though this is a very woody fragrance, the ginger gives it a fresh feeling. I see the similarities to Royal Oud. I would say Royal Oud is more aromatic and denser. Bois Mystique becomes an instant skin scent on me. However, I do love the smell. I would describe Bois Mystique as classy and Royal Oud as opulent.

Comparing with Royal Oud & French Lover makes sense however this is more versatile plus having different facets in the overall journey of the fragrance. Fantastically created and smells like classic gentleman walking in the rain with overcoat in the dry woody surroundings. Performance is the only issue with this beauty. Overall very good scent with lasting around 3-4 hours

This is not royal oud unfortunately- doesnt remind me much of it at all (seems ti be the case for creed alternatives). However , this is very similar to floris santal - great creamy woody fragrance indeed! Edit: I really enjoy this one - especially the dry down. It doesnt have the cloying characteristic that floris santal can have. Very solid - definitely not royal oud.

Cardamom, ginger, pepper, a sizeable dose of dihydromyrcenol, allyl amyl glycolate, Iso E Super, hedione, floralizers, woody ambers, ambroxan, cedarwood, vetiver and musk. Structurally (NOT notes - notes mean nothing) this fragrance seems to be in the same vein as CdG 2 Man, DS&Durga Coriander, and FM French Lover. I can see the comparison to Creed Royal Oud.

A warm, masculine spicy-woody fragrance. Similar to Man in Black but not as sweet, or Desert Rosewood but darker and richer. A mature, evening fragrance for cooler weather, one with really high quality ingredients. It overlaps quite a bit with others I have so maybe not full bottle worthy at this price, but a superb fragrance.

Oof, this one is extremely sexy and mysterious. Wore this on an international trip and was told by a gorgeous local lady that I smelled like a "rich guy from Dubai". This is missing the angelica note that makes Royal Oud unwearable for me, which I also acknowledge is an excellent scent. Definitely FB worthy.

While I’m not a fan of the so called beast mode fragrances and if I wear one of them I go light with the dosage, I am quite disappointed with this one. Is now a couple of years , all my fragrances get better over time but Bois Mystique stays very very light.

I applied at 11am this morning and still going strong at 6pm. I've gotten 10-12 hours from Bois Mystique. This is good stuff with a light hand that smells very natural with good ingredients.
