Patchouli Sauvage

7am @ 65 degrees: Wonderful patchouli scent. I see a powdery red color. To me, the opening is a fresh, powdered red raspberry over patchouli. Like those raspberry filled hard candies. It’s a fruity-patchouli-tonka vibe with Houbigant’s house DNA. Smells so nice as it swirls around and the trail is amazing. Very pleasant and crowd friendly. 4pm @ 95 degrees: Still noticeable after more than 8 hours. Pretty light in the mid-day warmth for a patchouli scent. No sweetness to strangle you. May lean towards cooler weather wear, but this one is a contender for all seasons.

I expected to hate this, because most pachouli fragrances with this note in their titles are too pachouli heavy, but in Pachouli Sauvage, the pachouli complements the smooth woody qualities of the fragrance. It is really pretty and whimsical in a way, I believe it is because of the airy texture. Do try this if you love soft woods and especially if you don't usually like pachouli.

This smells like the dry down of Nanatopia by BTSO. It’s spicy, woody, and the dried fruits gives it this rum like scent much like nanatopia. It’s beautiful.

Classy and timeless. Slightly suede. For now, this is the most airy-crystal yet bright, natural, not basement, not medical, not animal, not retro and not particularly gourmand patchouli that I have come across in my search for the "perfect patchouli-centric perfume". But it still suffocates me. It is ideal on the 3rd day on a scarf or one drop "on the heel". Even such a polite patchouli has an insane concentration and durability. Apparently, patchouli is not for me at all, very sad. It's a pity, because this creation of Houbigant is very beautiful, elegant and alluring. I would be happy if someone around me wore this, but I can’t do it myself. It's funny, I put a blotter with two sprays in a ziplock bag, it's securely closed. And I can smell it through the bag on the 4th day at arm's length.

It's not ground breaking, but I must say, it's a tasteful and well done scent. Opens with citrus and slightly sweet fruitiness. Then I get a woody element mixed with the above. I thought it's cedar, but apparently it's sandalwood(not the creamy kind) Dry down smells woody, slightly powdery(labdanum) and of course the patchouli. The fruitiness is subtle but permanent. Again, nothing "wow," but a pleasant, well crafted, balanced scent for men. I wish perfumes like this one are what's common these days; at least I won't have to change my seat because I'm suffocated by Ambroxan, or something sickening sweet and diabetes inducing. It's a like, but not a love.

Interestingly, Patchouli Sauvage gives me superficial vibes of a niche John Varvatos Dark Rebel Rider with amped up patchouli. And interesting the addition of a dried fruits note. I love dried fruit notes and especially scents with dominant dried fruit accords. This does not have that as the dried fruit is subdued, probably used in a supportive role to provide a bit of sweetness while maintaining a resinous texture. It's pretty good. Full bottle worthy for me to join Fougere Royale and Bois Mystique. But control the sprays with Patchouli Sauvage because that Patchouli will really resonate and too much can be nauseating.

OMG, the most masculine harsh at the same time polite patchouli scent ever. Resemblence with Givenchy Gentleman is spot on but far more niche and classy. Who likes to ware commanding, statement making fragrances should buy without hesitation. Congratulations Houbigant Ambre and this are extremely good but my taste is less commanding more second skin scents. this house promises a future, we should follow closely...

A strong patchouli scent earthy and woody, in the background some dried fruits hidden.... also a sharp citrus freshness only at the beginning.... very gentleman like... very elegant....Not that wild :) A billionaire would wear this...

This patchouli is hot and sexy! Every other ingrediënt is there to cheer it on!

A rather gentle patchouli scent, but still too bitter for me personally. It's a natural scent, though. I have to say, though, that the Tabac Nomade from this range is much better.

Really there is nothing to write home about with this one. A very generic woody scent that unfortunately on my skin manifests a vomit note.

The Patchouli is an essence with a great olfactory charge, with a dry, earthy, intense smell. It gives sensuality, depth and incisiveness. The first famous woman to love it, apparently for its aphrodisiac properties, was Poppea, wife of Nero. In recent times it has been the symbol of a revolutionary generation. That of Hippies. In Patchouli Sauvage we find a Patchouli with all these characteristics, intense, slightly sparkling at the beginning thanks to the bergamot, but then totally itself, intensified by the labdanum, the dried fruits and the woods. Without compromise it is the absolute protagonist. I find it one of the most successful interpretations of this note, truly beautiful. Not one painting, but many masterpieces: the frescoes of the villa of Poppea in Oplontis, at the time a suburban area of Pompeii.

The labdanum and patchouli are fighting for dominance and I sadly believe the labdanum is winning. Such a shame, because the patchouli seems to be the variety I love and adore. All top tier raw materials used here, but it seems to me a simple ratio issue. Also, I was checking my watch to see how long the grapefruit top note opening would last....it wasn't appropriate, it just didn't fit with the rest of the composition, so that's not a ratio issue, it has to do with overall concept.

Good. Earthy and new tire on the opening. Otherwise it is a very nice fragrance. It is spice forward and well balanced with the patchouli. I like it.
