Bois de Santal

WOW, this was love at first sniff for me. This is even better than Santal 33...which was my gateway drug to fragrances back in the day. This is a fresh, creamy, cozy, and elevated sandalwood fragrance. This screams September to me specifically--when the air is still fresh and warm from summer but the slightly rainy days make us long for the coziness of warm and rainy weather. I absolutely will be purchasing a full bottle of this ASAP. Honestly was shocked that this one was my favorite of the samples I ordered from Lucky Scent recently. It is a very safe blind buy in my opinion.

This was an instant love for me. I get a warm, cocooning, cozy sandalwood with a bit of cocoa. Smooth, silky and round. Not terribly complex. Easy to wear for folks newer to sandalwood. Purchased as my scent to transition from summer to the cooler weather.

I have a sample of this. Every time i get a sniff, my eyes roll over because how good this is. It’s a creamy, milky sandalwood that smells like soft clean skin. To me, it smells nothing like santal 33.

I really do love this but can't get it to last on my skin. Won't stop trying though because it is so nice!!

Opens up very Santal 33-like mixed with Gris charnel. However, unlike Santal 33, the pickle note quickly dissipates and what you’re left with is a warm powdery spicy (from the cardamom) woody scent. I bought a travel size of this and it may just be full bottle worthy. I just have to see if I’m willing to outweigh the drysown against the heavy pickle opening.

A dry and sparkly sandalwood with cardamom. It’s very linear, with moderate projection and longevity. Very unisex, I think this would make a nice Fall scent. Pretty similar to me to Santal Vanille by 7 Virtues, if you’re considering this one I’d recommend testing both.

I have a sample. Very nice, creamy sandalwood scent, but the drydown is quite sweet on me cause of the violet, I like the scent better at the beginning.

A really nice sandalwood fragrance. I sadly don't get any of the vanilla note on my skin but this is a really nice, simple and smooth scent, the sandalwood notes scared me a bit at first because on my skin sandalwood can pull really harsh smelling but that wasn't the case with this, it's strong yes but not overly strong. Glad I tried this out, but not sure I'd buy a full sized bottle.

This so SO cozy and woody. At first you think the cardamom is the main character here, but the sandalwood is the star. It reminds me of the holidays without being too cliché. I really like it, however I despise these bottles. They are plastic and inconveniently shaped. When traveling, it’s like packing a brick. 🙄

Very cardamom heavy if you're into that

Working my way thrugh the House of Brandt discovery set and enjoying it! Love investigating a new house and their concoctions. :) Bois de Santal is not for me but to be fair I am not a fan of woody sandalwood focused scents. It opens with strong wood but with a twist which I see is cardamom then transitions to powdery floral iris and violet. On my skin it dries down to baby powder with a hint of sandalwood. It's ok but not bottle worthy for me. If you love woody notes this one does have an interesting twist on the opening so definitely worth checking out. I appreciate the creativity and quality

I wouldn’t trust the reviews from @eaudereview, personally. Just look at their profile and post history - really suspicious... Anyway, do we really need yet ANOTHER Santal 33 inspired fragrance? I’m so, so tired of getting “sandalwood” fragrances only to find that I’ve just pulled another version of that fragrance. There are so many gorgeous ways to do sandalwood! I actually liked Santal 33, but I hate that a can’t get away from versions of that profile. It’s not identical, to be sure, but it’s along that vein and just...oh well.

This hurts because I really thought I would love this fragrance from the notes (I *almost* blind bought a full size!) It’s incredibly heavy, almost headache inducing. Very very nose-tingle-y. Smells like it should be a candle in a boutique clothing store. I will say it dries down softer and smells more complex eventually, but it takes awhile. I’m sure it works for others—I’m just not that girl.

I get a woody banana from this. No cardamom what so ever. Just wood notes with a hint of synthetic banana in the background. This to me is quite boring and weak. A no for me.

Love love love this. To me, this is what I mean when I say I like sandalwood fragrances. There's sandalwood at every layer of this fragrance - at the top, its quite woody and actually seemed a bit harsh when I first tried it. The harsh woodiness was accentuated by the green cardamom scent, and at first sniff I thought it might not be for me. But after 30 minutes or so it dries down to a beautifully creamy woody scent. The orris, vanilla, and cashmere wood all contribute to this sweet creaminess, and the iris note (in addition to the lingering cardamom) gives it a soft powdery facet as well. The dry down is what the fragrance smells like for the majority of the wear time, and it has moderate longevity and sillage. To the commenters saying it's similar to Santal Vanille by 7 virtues - I disagree. I own both and Santal Vanille is a much fresher, very lightly sweetened sandalwood - whereas this is a more sultry, creamy, heavy scent that is sweeter and spicier. If you like sandalwoods, I don't think it would be redundant to own both. I actually like to layer both of these scents.

I feel like my nose is broken, cause I'm getting Smartees candies from this! That citric smell might come from the resins or fruitiness from cardamom. It's not bad, though. It's just not what I was expecting. It seems like fresh cut wood as opposed to wood that is dry and aged. I'm glad I got a sample. I loved Porcelain Fog and Summer Street by Brandt and hope to try the rest if their line as well.

I'm not sure what it is but there's something in this that smells sour (and looking at the notes, this isn't supposed to smell sour). It's very off putting. Maybe I got a bad sample but it's so weird. I can't pick out any specific note. The only thing I can tell for sure is the sourness.

Creamier, less aggressive version of Santal 33. It opens up just like 33, but it's softened by the creamy orris and cardamon. It's woody and spicy, but in a soft cozy way. To me, it leans too masculine and reminds me of a candle so a sample is all I need.

I keep trying scents with sandalwood and I guess I just don’t care for it much. Recently received this and fugazzi vanilla haze. I’ve been wearing them together. It’s an interesting take on vanilla sandalwood.
