The Contemporary

After receiving a decant of The Contemporary and wearing it for several days, I became so enamored with the scent that I decided to purchase a full bottle while their 50% off sale is still going on. This fragrance hits all the right notes for me. The scent is unlike anything I've smelled before. It's sweet, seductive, modern and exceptionally classy. It could be worn day or night in practically any season. The Contemporary quickly became one of my most loved fragrances. It's totally worth checking out. Enjoy! i just got this and my first impression the start is fresh yet sweet warm yet cold it's a mix playing around both sides at the same time smells good smell gentlemanly aslo tried the formal as far as i can say these ones really are good for a suit a blazer a blouse you just have an aura of masculine buissiness cleanness... money vibe. of first impression's it smell good i would say it would be perfect in spring and fall day or night 8.5/10

damn this smells good it is fresh yet sweet yet fruity yet spicy yet woody it has everything and the smell is very very appealing i like how house of sillage is like parfums de marly they make quality fragrances that still smell very appealing. a nice addition for a collection. amazing bottle also !

This is a sleeper and very mass appealing and sexy. Like a nice clean soapy plum with a little bit of spice and fruits. Its screams sexy and gets tons of compliments

Just like N.003 this stuff just smells FRESH. Nothing crazy here. Just a good, clean smell. I like it. 8.6/10

What Sedley should smell like, lol. It's fruity, shampoo, but also has something to special to it. I'm really digging it.

Please see my review of House of Sillage The Formal for my thoughts on this brand giving kickbacks for positive reviews. This one is no exception. I bought this at 50% off retail straight from the brand. Again, if that doesn’t show you mark-up, I don’t know what does. The Formal to me is a fairly close take on Clive Christian Rock Rose. It’s not bad, but not this unbelievable and original scent like most reviews hyped. The Contemporary to me is a similar story. To me, it smells like the less niche and artsy version of Tom Ford Plum Japonais, another one of my all-time favorites. This one may be a little more mass appealing, however. Where Plum Japonais Keeps its smoothness the whole time, this can get a little more easily cloying to my nose. 9/10 times, I’d choose the Plum Japonais, but if going somewhere I could offend people, The Contemporary would be a little easier to wear since it doesn’t have oud it in. Aside from Plum Japonais, it has some very generic designer characteristics to it. I can’t name what it is. Something Gucci, YSL, or Armani—one of those easily found offerings. I don’t get the impression that this is groundbreaking, nor do I get the sense that the ingredients are of the utmost quality. I have spent more than this fragrance’s retail value more times than I care to admit on other bottles, so I’m no stranger to buying high-end. I say this to justify my opinion that this fragrance is not worth the full price by any means. It has a nice, unique presentation, but the juice quality just isn’t worth it. I’m questioning whether it was worth 50% off. This definitely is a cool weather scent. Part of my lack of enthusiasm is stemming from the fact it’s hot out, but even wearing in climate controlled spaces, I’m still not blown away. If you’re looking for something stand-out, then keep searching. Don’t blind buy and have high expectations for something unbelievably good, as you’ll probably be let down like me.

I have to leave a second review now that I've had this one a while. This was a very regrettable blind buy. It's best in cold weather, so I tried it out again. I think I sprayed 3 places (behind ear, wrist, shirt) with a "normal" spray (not an absolute blast), and it was fairly strong. I got in the car with my friends, and I quickly gave one of them a headache. He thought it smelled bad, and honestly, I was thinking it was pretty grating before he even said anything. This smells like a designer scent with a nice bottle. I think most designer offerings would be less cloying than this. People can downvote my review all they want; it would be nice if they'd at least disclose whether they were affiliated with the brand if they did. Stupidly, I'm a sucker for a good bottle and I hate losing money, so I've kept it in the collection. If I had to sell something, this would probably be the first to go. Okay, fine, it's not the worst in the world, but I completely do NOT recommend it, and my bottle will go rancid before I'll ever finish it. I guess that's a sign I should probably sell.... Update: I sold this. Glad someone likes this stuff, because it sure ain't me!

hard to understand the comparisons on this one - dylan blue, which smells nothing like plum japonais, which smells nothing like uomo. I've really had a hard time finding good things to say about this house's offerings, but thankfully, I have nothing but good things to say about this. While i agree with the general sentiment that this smells like a designer scent, I'm not at all opposed to niche houses offering mainstream, likable scents. I don't find this to be a gourmond scent at all - not even slightly. I would say, if anything, it's more of an aromatic scent. I find that it has bits and pieces of some of my favorite 90's scents - like tommy, polo, nautica etc - but it's contrasted with cinnamon, wood and fruit. It feels clean and masculine - and I find it very appealing overall. I think it's probably wearable year round, but best suited for cool/cold. A mass appealing attention grabber. 7/10

My thoughts based on an official sample directly from the brand. It's nice and I think most people will like it. It's likeable in a designer sort of way but it's different enough from more popular men's colognes to be enjoyable to more seasoned noses. This is nothing groundbreaking so don't allow yourself to be seduced by the bottle. Try it out first. I much prefer The Classic from this house. It's much more potent and sharp and clean. More of an alpha scent imo.

I like it! The opening is fresh after shower. It has a classic (semi modern) after shave vibe in the style of Fierce or maybe Percival, but it is a bit heavier and more dense. Quite fruity and the plum and cinnamon give it some body. In the end it gets a tad bit sour but never too much. I see animalic notes listed but I cannot smell these. 7,8/10
