Boss Sport

How times change. This and (strange enough) the original Boss heavy, honey-sweetened concoction, competed in consuming the oxygene of our highschool changing room. And of course it wasn't the pricey edt's that were wasted like bug-spray to defeat every drop of pubertal sweat, but the deodorants. Fair enough, I preferred the Sport flanker, but couldn't afford it. So I leaned to Tabac (mentioning heavy?) or the convenience-store supply of deodorants like Old Spice or Blue Stratos. But my nostrils purred from the Freon-driven clouds of Boss Sport. It couldn't have been out of sophistication - a 13 year old boy hasn't developed that references yet. But there was something both refreshening and mood-rising, and at the same time rich and mysterious in that smell. And Hugo Boss was The Boss, at least in my far-away corner of the world. Today I do certainly not reach for Boss sport out of admiration for the brand (nazi-collaborating uniform tailor, relying on slave labour), but simply for the divine smell. The lush freshness in this green bottle is in my opinion unique. Green, leafy and flowery with a strong moss base. Even though there are some similarities to other 1980's sport fragrancies like Lacoste, this is in my opinion a unique scent. I love how lavender is used here - clean and natural. Sadly I can't detect the marigold note, but that probably tells more about my untrained nose, than about this old masterpiece. The global stock seems ro shrink fast, and i'm afraid it will soon be extincted. What a shame that today's highschool boys won't be able to smell of this sophistication!

Hugo Boss Sport... ... YES, this is definitely a sport scent. When it came out sport scents were not like nowadays....endlessly boring freshies full of ozonic and aquatic notes. They were deep green herbal concoctions....syrupy and oily but in their composition still somehow with a fresh touch. Boss Sport was my second ever fragrance after Boss No1. and i actually preferred it. Ivan Lendl, Boris Becker, John McEnroe, Stefan Edberg ran up and down tennis courts all over the world and i would say this is an 80s tennis freshie in a bottle. Pumped up woodruff syrup with herbs, greens, flowers and wood. To the headquarter of Hugo Boss in Metzingen, Germany......bring this back for smells sake.

From a vintage mini with the red cap. Green and slightly sharp. Where Polo evokes damp, dank lushness, and original Quorum a freshly extinguished forest fire, Boss Sport is an overgrown field of brush, weeds, and wildflowers being bush hogged in dry summer, with the scent of marigold (my favorite flower) jumping out of the mix. I think it's fine for any season. If you're in the mood for a bit more bass, it pairs very well with one light spritz of Polo. But head to head, I would choose Boss over RL any day. Oh...there is absolutely nothing sporty about it in modern terms.

Boss Sport opens with a refreshing burst of green and floral notes, with tarragon adding a grassy, aromatic touch. The fragrance dries down to a soft, soapy floral scent. While unique, it shares a passing similarity with Esencia Pour Homme by Loewe, though they're not identical. A reviewer describes it as "an 80s tennis freshie in a bottle," but I wouldn't categorize it as a freshie. Its depth and honeyed complexity make it more suited to transitional seasons than to a straightforward fresh scent.

The bottle above shows the Aftershave. I can provide the actual bottle (green bottle with red cap)and the box if Fragrantica wants. This is one of the most huggable and comforting scents ever. I don't think this can be worn on a warm day. More for cold nights. It was my second perfume i ever purchased. Perfumes these days can't touch this. Yes, its been sadly discontinued.
